    I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

    Hi, I'm trying to add a second samba server (stand alone) to our windows domain, managed by a Samba server, but we've had some problems, we see the server and the shares, but cannot access the shares. We decided to start with minimal configuration. [global] netbios name = GINGER wins server = 192.168.0.2 workgroup = DOMAIN1 os level = 20 security = share passdb backend = tdbsam preferred master = no domain master = no [data] comment = Data path = /home/data guest only = Yes Again trying to access the share gives permissions error.     Oh RHEL 5.5, there are 31 ACPI PCI hotplug slots by default: acpiphp: Slot [1] registered ... acpiphp: Slot [31] registered Is there a way to increase this number? I haven't been able to find an argument to supply to modprobe, or a sysctl knob to tweak, but I know there must be ways to get more slots based on some Google sleuthing. (For the curious, this is just preliminary experimentation to see how many virtual disks I can hot-add to a running KVM guest.)

  • How can virtualization be efficient?

    As I understand, the virtual machine and the guest OS doubles the amount of abstraction layers (that are computationally relevant) between the user interface and the pure power of the hardware. Some of the said abstraction layers are (emulated) hardware, drivers, IO interfaces, etc. Top-notch virtualization solutions like Xen probably eliminate a few of these complexities, but I still wonder how efficiency is achieved in these environments; and whether manageable cloud servers are really worth the performance price.

The above command does work on the guest machine.

I need Connection host to guest but I can not see virtual computer(win2008) from host (win7). Is there any solution ?

  • Virtual Machine for software renting service

    I am currently trying to figure out which solution would be best for software renting service (with proper licensing and stuff). I know its kinda stupid and so on, but I just have to develop it. Long story short - user can connect to a virtual machine (with windows guest os) using vnc and use some specific software for some specific time (eg., 1 hour). I have already considered VirtualBox, Xen and some other, but maybe somebody has a better idea. Thanks.

  • iSCSI NAS supporting VMware Esxi 5.1 servers in a software development environment

    I would like to build (or purchase) the smallest, quietest most energy efficient servers that I can for a low demand environment. These would only have a small disk for guest swap files, a CPU (XEON preferred), 32 Gb of memory and minimal graphics. The virtual machines need to be up but demand will be quite low. Any thought on case, format processors, fans, motherboard, et al? Small, quiet and lots of RAM are the operative words here.

  • Choose source interface for PPTP VPN on Ubuntu

    I have an Ubuntu Virtualbox guest with two network interface, eth0 (NAT) and eth1 (bridged). I want to connect to a PPTP VPN using eth1, but I don't know how to specify which interface to use. If i just try: sudo pon myvpn nodetach It fails with: Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1 Modem hangup Connection terminated. Looking at routes with route seems to indicate that eth0 is being used: x.x.x.x.no 10.0.2.2 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth0

    Configuration Windows 7 Intel i7-based platform ATI Raedon HD 5850 Display card Virtualbox with ubuntu 10.10 as guest Problem I wanted to connect another monitor to my current setup (Which is a single monitor, dell U2711 monitor) so that it would be dedicated to one (or more if possible) virtual machine and for virtual machine use only. Ideally, I do not want the windows desktop to extend to that particular monitor. Thanks for any help.

    Is there any software that can be installed in Windows XP to set file permissions for guest accounts? So that they would have to input a valid administrator password first before they can access the file? I've seen a feature like this in Ubuntu, wherein even the administrator has to input the password over and over just to access a certain drive. But I need it in Windows XP.

  • Reclaim Vertical UI Space by Adding a Toolbar to the Left or Right Side of Firefox

  • No Sound card detected in Sound Settings, although sound works

    I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my laptop. When I go to Sound Settings while logged into my user, no sound card appears detected. In spite of this, the sound on my laptop is working ok, and I can use alsamixer just fine. The Unity sound indicator is dead, and this is quite annoying. If I login as guest, the sound indicator works just fine, I assume it's something related to my user's sound settings, but I cannot find what exactly. Any clues?
