• Screen scraping C application without using OCR or DOM?

  We have a legacy system that is essentially a glorified telnet interface. We cannot use an alternative telnet client program to connect to the system since there are special features built into the client software they have provided us. I want to be able to screen scrape from this program, however that's proving very difficult. I have tried using WindowSpy and Spy++ to check the window text and it comes up blank. It's a custom C program written by the vendor (they have even disabled selecting text). I'm really looking for a free option and something I may perhaps be able to use in conjuction with a scripting language. It seems the only ways to grab text is directly from the Windows GDI or from memory, but that seems a little extreme. Can anyone recommend any software/DLLs that might be able to accomplish this? I'd be extremely appreciative.

I would like to modify MSIL code (so just with ILDASM/ILASM tools) of my assembly in order to log something in a file. • Making the shadow from a ScatterViewItem a different shape

  I am developing a program for Surface using Expression Blend and Visual Studio. I have a custom user control with an ellipse and a label in a grid. This will need to be placed in a scatterViewItem. My problem is that the scatterviewitem will cast a rectangle shaped shadow under the ellipse shaped content. I can disable the shadow completely, but is there any way to make the shadow inherit the shape from its parent? Or can i set the shape of the scatterviewItem itself in any way?

• Can a single solution hold projects from multiple repositories?

  I've begun setting up SVN repositories to store my code, and am wondering if a single Visual Studio solution can have projects from multiple repositories. I have a shared library with different helper functions, generic custom controls, etc, that are used by multiple projects, and hosted in its own repository. Then I have my project repository, which contains all of the program-specific code such as forms, etc. I know I could copy the shared library into the program's repository, then copy them back when I make changes, but I'd much rather keep them in different repositories so I can hit "Commit" and the general library commits to it's repository, and the program code commits to it. I'm currently using AnkhSVN, but if it's possible with other tools, I'll look into it. Preemptive clarification for all the "just use one repository" answers: The shared library is hosted in an online repository, viewable by anyone, but the program code is proprietary and resides on our office servers, so they need different repositories.

• BIRT Viewer with Rails App

  Has anyone tried using BIRT for reporting on a Rails app.. I am working on a pretty big app on ROR. I was trying to get BIRT to work happily with the app. Since the BIRT Report Designer cannot be used with Rails, I decided to use BIRT Viewer alone and give the links to the reports on the page and have BIRT Viewer running on Tomcat on the same box to render the reports. This has a big problem of not being able to allow the user to create any custom reports. Has anybody tried anything even remotely close to this??? If yes do you have any tips for me on any part of this endeavor? Thanks in advance for all the help.

  So I'm working on a web-app for the Google Marketplace that's going to involve integration with Google Drive. Part of what I want to be able to do with the app involves something along the lines of adding a menu option to the Drive menu interface. For instance, you could be editing a document in drive and browse to File-"My new fancy option." Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if it is not, is there another way of adding this sort of custom action functionality where you are able to perform non Drive standard actions on files from within the Drive interface?

  I have serious trouble finding anything useful in Mongo documentation about dealing with embedded documents. Let's say I have a following schema: { _id: ObjectId, ... data: [ { _childId: ObjectId // let's use custom name so we can distinguish them ... } ] } What's the most efficient way to remove everything inside data for particular _id? What's the most efficient way to remove embedded document with particular _childId inside given _id? What's the performance here, can _childId be indexed in order to achieve logarithmic (or similar) complexity instead of linear lookup? If so, how? What's the most efficient way to insert a lot of (let's say a 1000) documents into data for given _id? And like above, can we get O(n log n) or similar complexity with proper indexing? What's the most efficient way to get the count of documents inside data for given _id?

• When not to use a Drupal node?

  I've recently created a very simple CRUD table where the user stores some data. For the data, I created a custom node. The functionality works great for creating, editing, and deleting data in the CRUD table using the basic node functionality (I'm actually amazed how fast and easy it was to program the basic functionality with proper access controls using only a tiny bit of code).... Since the data isn't meant to be treated the same way as 'content' such as a blog post (no title, no body, no commments, no revisions, shouldn't show up on ?q=node page, no previews, no teasers, etc)... I find that I'm spending most of my time 'turning off' and modifying the stuff that drupal does automatically for nodes. I know its a matter of taste, but where should one draw the line on what should be treated as a node and what shouldn't? In other words, would it be better to program this stuff from scratch without using nodes?

  Hi everyone, I've been hunting for an answer to this on South's site, google, and SO, but couldn't find a simple way to do this. I want to rename a Django model using South. Say you have the following: class Foo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Foo) and you want to convert Foo to Bar, namely class Bar(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Bar) To keep it simple, I'm just trying to change the name from Foo to Bar, but ignore the 'foo' member in FooTwo for now. What's the easiest way to do this using South? a) I could probably do a data migration, but that seems pretty involved. b) Write a custom migration, e.g. db.rename_table('city_citystate', 'geo_citystate'), but I'm not sure how to fix the foreign key in this case. c) An easier way that you know? • automatic push to CDN deployment strategy

  Does anyone have ideas for a strategy to push content to a CDN upon deployment? The key issue I'm facing is that we have a site that is available in various contexts: local development, development server, staging, then finally live. The liver version of the site needs to load assets from a domain, which will be pointed to a CDN: assets.domain.com. However, we will have numerous references to the assets pointing to a relative folder, e.g. /images/ in css, possibly in js, and in HTML & source. Our new site will use capistrano for deployment and it may be that we can hook in another build tool (apache ant?) or some custom script to search / replace paths. I am wondering if anyone has had to deal with this issue before and what solutions you put in place to automate managing the CDN in terms of pushing content up to the CDN and managing html & css references to assets in the CDN. • Is there a way to write System.Drawing.Graphics to PDF from C#?

  I have a whole bunch of 2D graphics that is being used for both rendering controls on screen and used to print, it's pretty custom graphics that couldn't be done by any 3rd party reporting tools or off the shelf controls. The program can generate PDF files of the printed content but when I wrote it I cheated and just print the Graphics object to an in memory image and then embed that into the PDF page. Since the users are emailing the documents they're finding they are too large. I've started writing the PDF from scratch using iText, however is there a way to get System.Drawing.Graphics content directly into PDF? The way iText works and Graphics works is completely different.

• WIX - Verify that file exists - and/or file-browser dialog/button

  How do you create a "Browse" button in a WIX dialog. I currently have a custom dialog box with four radio buttons (Dev, QA, Stage, and Prod), and a text field for a filename. The install of course dies if the user enters a bad filename. I would be happy first of all just to verify that the file they entered exists. Secondly, I would like to add a File-Browser button, if such things exists in WIX. But even then, I would imagine the user could type in any file name, and I should still check to see if it exists.   I'm new to android and have gotten used to doing all my previous UI in code. I can understand the simple examples, but I'm trying something more complex and have no idea how to do it in code and XML. I'm trying to use the google map api and draw text on the map at a specified spot. I have succeeded in doing so by extending overlay and overriding the draw method using drawtext. This has pretty much accomplished what I'm looking to do, but I want have read that is poor practice. I now want to add a second line below the first and just using \n does not work. I can work it out using another drawtext method, but I figured it would be better to create a custom textview, I just have no idea how to position it using code and encapsulate it inside the overlay. Maybe the way I'm doing it is the best way...

• Why would bytesTotal increase in a AS3 preloader?

  I'm creating a custom preloader for a Flex app and have noticed the following behavior: when loading, the progress bar goes to 100%, then down then back up, and so on until the app is finished loading. When I put a trace in the dowloadprogress listener, I see that while the app is loading, both bytesLoaded and bytesTotal increase, but not necessarily at the same time. • Should GSON ignore varying types if they're not used in a class?

  I'm making an API call that returns JSON which has a particular field which either returns false or a map depending on content. It's a field that I don't care about. I expected GSON to ignore this particular field, though it doesn't seem to be. The object generation fails with the following message: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected a string but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 403560 I've seen this particular question (Gson deserialize json with varying value types). I want to make sure I need to make a custom deserializer before doing so. I'm wondering if I may have another issue. edit: Example: "anonymous_flag": { } vs "anonymous_flag": "yes" Another Edit: I actually had the field in my model object... But we need to be able to launch the youtube player by a means other than user tapping the video itself, for various reasons. So I am trying to figure out what event to trigger in javascript to make it happen with no luck. • Creating your own UTI for an iOS app.

  Hello all, The app I'm developing has a custom file format for its files, and I'd like to be able to use the "Open In ..." feature of iOS which lets users e.g. email each other a file and then open it directly in the app. I've gotten as far as adding the CFBundleDocumentType stuff in the Info.plist file, but the problem is the LSItemContentTypes. From what I've read, I need to provide the actual file as a UTI, rather than just saying ".myfileextension", and I can't find a lot about how to create UTI's in a iOS app. Anyone know?

• How to encrypt data in php using Public/Private keys?

  I have a small string of some data (less than 1kb) that I would like to have user agents pass to other sites when they are sent from my site. In order for the other sites to verify that I was the one that created the string I though of two options. The server pings me back to confirm (like paypal, openid, etc..) I use public/private keys to prove I sent the message (like PGP, DKIM, etc..) I don't want to setup HMAC because that would mean I have to use custom keys for each site which would be a pain. Out of those two choices it seems that #2 would save on bandwidth which makes it seem like a better choice. So how can you setup public/private key cryptography using PHP and are there any downsides?

  Hi, I have moodle1.9 installed on my system and writing some custom reports. I want to retrieve list of students registered for a particular course. I have user profile field usercategoryid through which i figure out for which category he has enrolled. Course belongs to a particular category. Through mdl_user_info_data table i retrieve the category for a particular user. I have written a query to retrieve the users who have registered for a particular category for e.g. Financial Planning 2010. But the issue is that i now want users who have registered for a particular course for e.g. Insurance Planning. There is a relation between course and course category but i am unable to find out the table where course and user information is linked. Please help me on this Thanks
