• how to create a mirror of minimum size to install Ubuntu

  I need to create an http url at my laptop to have a Ubuntu installation begin within my laptop on a Xen environment. This is how the final thing will look like http://bderzhavets.wordpress.com/2008/10/28/install-ubuntu-intrepid-server-pv-domu-at-xen-33-port-via-httpgetco-centos-52-dom0/ the host and client are both going to be my laptop, I Google d and came across apt-mirror and some other packages. I do not want to archive entire 15 GB Ubuntu repositories on my machine. It is not possible to use a CD,ISO,loop mounted disk (reason mentioned below). I have tried using netboot image on local machine which failed because if you are attempting to create a virtual machine on a hardware which does not support VT virt-manager installer necessarily needs a URL of this sort http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ any other option to create guest OS is simply grayed out. The unfortunate part is my Ethernet connections do not work when I boot with Xen-4.0 and a pv-ops Dom0 kernel from Jeremy's tree.Which is where I have to do this work.So I have to create a URL structure which is similar to Ubuntu mirrors.So how can I do this in bare minimum so that at least the console boots and once the console comes I can do some work.

  I'm developing a 2d survival shooter using Box2d extension and I've got some questions: I have two AnalogOnScreenControls. Their listeners modify both sprites and bodies. I receive TouchEventPool was exhausted and as their number grows the game crashes accidently. I've tried to put the modification of the bodies and sprites on the UpdateThread but that does not solve the problem. What could be the cause? I have a class that at the beginnig of the game loads all the textures. After I relaunch the game activity several times I receive Unable to find Phys Addr for and "green color" interface. But that doesn't happen if I clear the memory manually through the Task Manager before relaunch What could be the cause? I unload my atlas at the end of the game. The game sometimes crashes at start with NullPointerException in onResumeGame. The solution suggested is to set android:configChanges="orientation|screenSize" but my device is API 10 so it doesn't have screenSize property and orientation only does not seem to help, because the game starts in portrait mode at times (though landscape is set in the code)

• How do I find out which process is eating up my bandwidth?

  I think I'm being the victim of a bug here. Sometimes while I'm working (I still don't know why), my network traffic goes up to 200 KB/s and stays that way, even tough I'm not doing anything internet-related. This sometimes happens to me with the CPU usage. When it does, I just run a top command to find out which process is responsible and then kill it. Problem is: I have no way of knowing which process is responsible for my high network usage. Both the resource monitor and the top command only tell me my total network usage, neither of them tells me process specific network info. Is there another command I can use to find out which process is getting out of hand? I've already tried killing all the obvious ones (firefox, update-manager, pidgin, etc) with no luck. So far, restarting the machine is the only way I found of getting rid of the issue. EDIT: (just to be clear) I've found questions here about monitoring total bandwidth usage, but, as I mentioned, that's not what I need. UPDATE: The command iftop gives results that disagree entirely with the information reported by System Monitor. While the latter claims there's high network traffic, the former claims there's barely 1 KB/s. Thanks

• Ubuntu stops using Nvidia driver after kernel upgrade

  Just updated and restarted, Ubuntu's doesn't display correctly. After restart, the desktop now looks like this. I've temporarily switched to the Nouveau driver. The update history reveals the kernel was updated, amongst many things; and the following were installed: linux-image-3.5.0-19-generic (3.5.0-19.30) linux-image-extra-3.5.0-19-generic (3.5.0-19.30) I've encountered this type of problem quite recently, so I decided to reapply the same steps, to solve the problem, as follows: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-19 sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-19-generic sudo depmod -a sudo modprobe nvidia sudo /etc/init.d/*dm restart When installing linux-headers-3.5.0-19-generic, I get an error, message from terminal as follows: Setting up linux-headers-3.5.0-19-generic (3.5.0-19.30) ... Examining /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d. run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 3.5.0-19-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-19-generic Error! Problems with depmod detected. Automatically uninstalling this module. DKMS: Install Failed (depmod problems). Module rolled back to built state. However, I ignored the above error and continued the steps with sudo depmod -a, installed nvidia-current, then did sudo modprobe nvidia, which yielded the following error: FATAL: Error inserting nvidia_current (/lib/modules/3.5.0-19-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia_current.ko): No such device Upon restart, the Nvidia driver now works! BTW, do those error messages imply I broke something? Just curious, cause I don't want to get happy I've fixed it, then it stops working later on. The system is Dell XPS-L702X, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M, and 17" screen.

• GNOME session not starting after filesystem corruption

  I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 desktop edition. Suddenly today /home became corrupted and I was prompted to run fsck manually. I ran fsck -y /home and rebooted the system. The system booted but I got no GUI interface (GNOME session) but a black screen with a user prompt instead. Any tricks here to start my system normally? Any help is greatly appreciated. • Lubuntu: How do I arrange windows with keyboard shortcuts?

  I have been testing with Lubuntu and have found it really pleasant. However, I cannot find an answer for one essential (for me) feature: being able to arrange windows with keyboard shortcuts. In Ubuntu this is done with the "Grid" plugin in "compizconfig-settings-manager". Unity uses this as well for window arranging. I am not interested in the "drag to the left to take up 1/2 the screen", but rather just the "hit some key combo" to put the active window to the left 1/2 of the screen, for example. I found this entry in "askubuntu" asking a very similar question: Is there a way to make Openbox behave like the Compiz Grid plugin? But it seems the "answer to this question", namely pyTile (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pytile/), doesn't do what I would like it to do. I don't want to tile all current windows, I want to resize one window at a time as I specify (left, right, top, center, bottom, 1/2, 2/3, 1/3, etc.). And I would prefer to do so with the keyboard. I think it possible to install compiz in Lubuntu, but this seems like "overkill" for this one feature (Grid keyboard shortcuts). Any help out there? It would REALLY MAKE MY DAY!!!

• How do I disable touchpad tap to click?

  You've heard this a million times but the "tap to click" is a pain in the behind and I want to disable it. There is no touchpad in gpointing-device-settings and neither in mouse and touchpad in system settings. I've tried some commands in terminal but it's all crap. Dconf-editor doesn't react. • A (slight) Change of Focus

  When I started this blog in September 2009 I was working as a BizTalk developer for a financial institution based in the South West of England.  At the time I was developing using BizTalk Server 2004 and intended to use my blog to collate and share any useful information and experiences that I had using this version of BizTalk (and occasionally other technologies) in an effort to bring together as many useful details as I could in one place. Since then my circumstances have changed and I am no longer working in the financial industry using BizTalk 2004.  Instead I have recently started a new post in the logistics industry, in the North of England, as "IT Integration Manager".  The company I now work for has identified a need to boost their middleware/integration platform and have chosen BizTalk Server 2009 as their platform of choice; this is where I come in. To start with my role is to provide the expertise with BizTalk that they currently lack, design and direct the initial BizTalk 2009 implementation and act as lead developer on all pending BizTalk projects.  Following this it is my hope that we will be able to build on the initial BizTalk "proof of concept" and eventually implement a fully robust enterprise level BizTalk 2009 environment. As such, this blog is going to see a shift in focus from BizTalk 2004 to BizTalk 2009 and at least initially is likely to include posts on the design and installation of our BizTalk environment - assuming of course that I have the time to write them! The last post I made was the start of a chapter by chapter look at the book SOA Patterns with BizTalk Server 2009.  Due to my change of job I am currently "paused" half way through this book, and my lack of posts on the subject are directly as a result of the job move and the pending relocation of my family.  I am hoping to write about my overall opinion of this book sometime soon; so far it certainly looks like it will be a positive one. • Windows 8 BIOS - Boot Ubuntu from External HDD

  My laptop came pre-loaded with Windows 8 64-bit (only storage device is a 128 GB SSD). Since it is my school laptop/I've heard creating a Linux partition alongside Windows 8 is not very wise I installed Ubuntu onto my external hard drive. I have a 500GB external HDD with the following partitions: Main Partition - NFTS - ~400 GB Extension Partition / - ext2 - ~25gb /home - ext2 - ~30gb swap - ext2 - 10gb /boot - ? - 10gb ? = not sure of partition Using the PenDriveLinux installer, I created a LiveUSB version of Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) on a 4GB USB drive. Using that, I installed Ubuntu onto the external hard-drive, without any errors (or at least none that I was notified of). Using the BIOS settings, I changed the OS-loading order so that it is in this order: My External USB HDD Windows Boot Loader Some other things Therefore, Ubuntu should load from my hard drive first, but it doesn't. Also, my hard drive is in working condition, and it turns on when BIOS starts (there is a light indicator). When I start my laptop, it goes directly to Windows 8 (I have the fast startup setting disabled as well). So, is there any way for me to set it up so that when my HDD is connected, it will automatically load Ubuntu? Thanks in advance!

It's location mitigates against using a wired connection.

What job ran for roughly six hours completed in less than 1.5 hours. • A Console Application or Windows Application in VS 2010 for Sharepoint 2010 : A common Error

  I have seen many Sharepoint Newbies cracking their head to create a Console/Windows  application in VS2010 and make it talk to Sharepoint 2010 Server. I had the same problem when i started with Sharepoint in the begining. It is important for you to acknowledge that SharePoint 2010 is based on .NET Framework version 3.5 and not version 4.0. In VS 2010 when you create a Console/Windows application, Make Sure you select .Net Framework 3.5 in the New Project Dialog Window.If you have missed while creating new Project Go to the Application tab of project properties and verify that .NET Framework Version 3.5 is select as the Target Framework. Now that you have selected the correct framework, will it work? Nope if the application is configured as x86 one it will not work. Sharepoint is a 64 Bit application and when you create a windows application to talk to Sharepoint it should also be a 64 Bit one. Go to Configuration Manager, Select x64. If x64 is not available select <New…> and in the New Solution Platform dialog box select x64 as the new platform copying settings from x86 and checking the Create new project platforms check box. This is not applicable if you are making a console application to talk to sharepoint with Client Object Model.

• Raspberry Pi Now Shipping with 512MB RAM; Still Only $35

  Fans of the tiny Raspberry Pi will be pleased to hear the new version of their Model B board now ships with 512MB of RAM (up from the previous 256MB). The best part about the upgrade? The price point stays at $35 a board. From the official Raspberry Pi blog: One of the most common suggestions we’ve heard since launch is that we should produce a more expensive “Model C” version of Raspberry Pi with extra RAM. This would be useful for people who want to use the Pi as a general-purpose computer, with multiple large applications running concurrently, and would enable some interesting embedded use cases (particularly using Java) which are slightly too heavyweight to fit comfortably in 256MB. The downside of this suggestion for us is that we’re very attached to $35 as our highest price point. With this in mind, we’re pleased to announce that from today all Model B Raspberry Pis will ship with 512MB of RAM as standard. If you have an outstanding order with either distributor, you will receive the upgraded device in place of the 256MB version you ordered. Units should start arriving in customers’ hands today, and we will be making a firmware upgrade available in the next couple of days to enable access to the additional memory. • Windows Embedded Compact 7

  This will be the official name of the new release of Windows CE. Windows Embedded Compact 7 is available as a public CTP and it already supports a wide range of CPUs and both the device emulator and VirtualPC emulated environments. So I’ll have to learn a new (and longer) name for my favorite OS… but I (and all my two readers!) will be able to test it as soon as the download from connect web site completes (I'm sorry for my readers, but you'll have to download it by yourselves). • Reusing Web Forms across BPM Roles

  Recently Varsha(another BPM Product Manager) approached me with a requirement where she wanted to reuse same Web Form for different task activity.We both knew this is easily achievable.The human task outcomes can differ to distinguish the submission based on roles.Her requirement was slightly more than this, she wanted to hide some data based on the logged in user. If you have worked on Web Form rules, dynamically showing and hiding data is common requirement and easily achievable using Form Rules. In this case the challenge was accessing BPM role inside the Web Form. Although, will be addressing this requirement in future release she wanted a immediate solution(Aha, after all customers are not the only one's who can not wait). Thankfully we managed to come-up with a solution and I hope this will be helpful to larger audience. Solution has 3 steps : Step 1: We added a hidden attribute in our form (Role). The purpose of this attribute is just to store the current logged in user's role and we pass the value during data association. Step 2 : In your data association step, pass the role value based on the Swimlane Step 3 : Now use this hidden attribute value in your Web Form rule for dynamic behavior Detailed steps and sample can be downloaded from Java.net.

• Why can't I install from software center?

  There was a problem upgrading to Firefox 13. This error kept returning: /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but was not there - dpkgGo (10: There are no "child" processes). Now it seems that there is some problem with dpkg and I can't install anything from software center. I already tried to clean previous packages with sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf and then sudo apt-get update, it didn't work. When running sudo dpkg --configure -a, I get this: dpkg: problems with dependencies prevent the configuration of firefox-globalmenu: firefox-globalmenu depends on firefox (= 13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1); however: The package is not installed. dpkg: error while processing firefox-globalmenu (--configure): problems com dependencies - leaving unconfigured There has been found errors while processing: firefox-globalmenu What should I do to fix this?? EDIT: I don't have the necessary expertise to understand why what I did worked and what was causing the conflict, but anyway, since there was a problem with firefox-globalmenu:, I went to synaptics package manager, I removed this particular package and reinstalled it. After that, I was able to install Firefox from synaptics and also any other applications from software center. However, still there was a problem, when running sudo apt-get update, the following kept returning: Failed to get gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages Verification code hash doesn't match. E: Some archives index failed at being downloaded. They have been ignored, or older copies are used instead. So I typed sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf in terminal and then again sudo apt-get update and everything is fine now. I did this before an answer was posted, anyway I agree the problem was that particular package and its removal. So I'll mark the below answer as accepted.
