Why does Hibernate ignore the JPA2 standardized properties in my persistence.xml?

I have an extremely simple web application running in Tomcat using Spring 3.0.1, Hibernate 3.5.1, JPA 2, and Derby. I am defining all of my database connectivity in persistence.xml and merely using Spring for dependency injection. I am using embedded Derby as my database. Everything works correctly when I define the driver and url properties in persistence.xml in the classic Hibernate manner as thus: <property name="hibernate.connection.driver_class" value="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver"/> <property name="hibernate.connection.url" value="jdbc:derby:webdb;create=true"/> The problems occur when I switch my configuration to the JPA2 standardized properties as thus: <property name="javax.persistence.jdbc.driver" value="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver"/> <property name="javax.persistence.jdbc.url" value="jdbc:derby:webdb;create=true"/> When using the JPA2 property keys, the application bails hard with the following exception: java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: The user must supply a JDBC connection Does anyone know why this is failing? NOTE: I have copied the javax... property strings straight from the Hibernate reference documentation, so a typo is extremely unlikely.

ASP.NET membership db using integrated security problem

I published ASP.NET MVC web site to a server on a virtual machine (Hyper-V). SQL Server Express installed on the same server. The problem is that ASP.Net Membership system doesn't work in integrated mode. When Web.config file contains records as follows: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="MyDBConnectionString" connectionString="data source=vm-1\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testdb;Integrated Security=SSPI;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> I get an error when trying to register and login to the site. Here's the general idea for the mapping file: <class name="Base" table="Base"> <id name="Id"><generator class="identity"/></id> <discriminator />  <subclass name="Sub1" discriminator-value="1">...</subclass> <subclass name="Sub2" discriminator-value="2">...</subclass> </class> Is there any way of accomplishing something like this with the <discriminator>, <join>, or <many-to-one>? NHiberante seems to assume the discriminator is a column on the given table (which makes sense to me.. I know this is unorthodox). Thanks.

My project is a menu that displays daily specials at a cafe. The Pointy Haired Boss(PHB) needs to add/remove items from the menu on a daily basis, so I stored all dishes with MySQL, and created a page which will load all menu items as buttons. When clicked, the button will UPDATE the item, turning it on or off. I need form data to detect which button was pressed, so my query knows which $menuItem to UPDATE. Android 1.5/1.6 issue with style and autogenerated R.java file

I'm having strange issue with R.java file and styles defined in my resources. Here's some code: In res/values/strings.xml: <style parent="android:Theme.Dialog" name="PopupWindowStyle"> <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/bg1</item> <item name="android:textColor">@android:color/black</item> </style> In AndroidManifest.xml: <activity android:name=".RegisterScreen" android:icon="@drawable/ico" android:label="@string/applicationName" android:theme="@style/PopupWindowStyle" android:configChanges="locale|touchscreen|keyboard|keyboardHidden|navigation|orientation|fontScale"> </activity> In autogenerated gen/.../R.java: public static final class style { public static final int PopupWindowStyle=0x7f090000; } After some changes in the project, eclipse changed autogenerated value for PopupWindowStyle from 0x7f080000 to 0x7f090000. After that, on Android 1.5, RegisterScreen activity is displayed without PopupWindowStyle style - there is an error displayed in logcat: Skipping entry 0x7f090000 in package table 0 because it is not complex! On Android 1.6 however everything works fine - PopupWindowStyle works like it was before it's integer value has changed. I was testing this issue, by reverting the source code to older revisions. I can confirm, that this problem started occurring after src code commit, which changed two files completely unrelated to this part of code - and an autogenerated R.java file. Any idea what could cause that?

Possible defect with jQuery ':checked' selector (finding checked checkbox when there are none)

Found a strange thing. The following code is supposed to set a default value for a UI element based on whether one of a group of checkboxes (all having attribute name="privacy") is checked (in say, a form postback). If there is no value in the HTML sent by the server (the form is not a postback), the default value should be firstMenuItemKey. Otherwise, it should be the one checked in the underlying HTML. However, while this works on the first call to the URL that includes the form, a refresh of the page will set the value of defaultPrivacyValue to one of the privacy checkboxes'. I've checked that the server isn't checking the checkbox before the script runs (it's not). I've also checked whether somewhere else in the script is checking the checkbox (it's not). var defaultPrivacyValue = firstMenuItemKey; $('input[name=privacy]:checked').each(function() { defaultPrivacyValue = $(this).next().find('.name').text(); }); selectMenuItem(defaultPrivacyValue); When I chaged the selector to 'input[name=privacy][checked=checked]' it worked as expected. Is this a defect in the jQuery implementation of DOM retrieval based on the ':checked' selector???? I'm using jQuery 1.4.2. Thanks for any help you can give.

After rich:extendedDataTable sortby,otheractions are not getting executed

I have a RichFaces UI which are having sidebar menu and sidebar had 8 links. I am using Seam @DataModel and @Factory and hibernate criteria to populate all the 8 pages. In all the pages i have sortby functionality which is working fine. I am able to get all data in all the 8 pages and I can freely navigate around all the links/xhtmls. But if in one of the xhtmlpages if I do sorting or groupby after that I am unable to navigate to other pages.If I select any other link the same last query which is executed for sorting is getting executed. Is this an issue? or do I need add any configuration. Please help me in solving this issue. This is what I believe to be correct: public class Example { private String name; private int age; ... // copy constructor here public Example(Example e) { this.setName(e.getName()); this.setAge(e.getAge()); } ... } A friend has exposed a valid point of view, saying that in the copy construct we should create the object as fast as possible. And adding getter/setter methods would result in unnecessary overhead. I stand on a crossroad. Can you shed some light?

problem configure JBoss to work with JNDI

I am trying to bind connection to the DB using JNDI in my application that runs on JBoss. I did the following: I created the datasource file oracle-ds.xml filled it with the relevant xml elements: <datasources> <local-tx-datasource> <jndi-name>bilby</jndi-name> ... </local-tx-datasource> </datasources> and put it in the folder \server\default\deploy Added the relevant oracle jar file than in my application I performed: JndiObjectFactoryBean factory = new JndiObjectFactoryBean(); factory.setJndiName("bilby"); try{ factory.afterPropertiesSet(); dataSource = factory.getObject(); } catch(NamingException ne) { ne.printStackTrace(); } and this cause the error: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: bilby not bound then in the output after this error occured I saw the line: 18:37:56,560 INFO [ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jb oss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=bilby' to JNDI name 'java:bilby' So what is my configuration problem? I think that it may be that JBoss first loads and runs the .war file of my application and only then it loads the oracle-ds.xml that contain my data-source definition. The problem is that they are both located in the same folder. Is there a way to define priority of loading them, or maybe this is not the problem at all. Any idea?

But I need a single Table with the two rows. What am I doing wrong? PD: I'm using C# and I don't want to iterate through the XML file, I want to use the ReadXml method. Thanks for your time.

These data sources can be in the form of a document (e.g. PDF, etc.), audio (e.g. MP3, etc.) or video (e.g. AVI, etc.). Say, for example, I am only interested in the filename of the data source. Thus, I have the following table: DataSource Id (PK) Filename For each data source, I also need to store some of its attributes. Example for a PDF would be "numbe of pages." Example for audio would be "bit rate." Example for video would be "duration." Each DataSource will have different requirements for the attributes that need to be stored. I'm using the Doctrine DataBase Abstraction Layer (DBAL) to perform some queries. For some reason, when I quote a parameter before passing it to the query, I get back no rows. When I pass it unquoted, it works fine. Problem with Railscast #197 - Nested Model Form Part 2

I'm trying to implement Ryan's Railscast #197 in a system with Questions, Answers, and (multiple choice) Options. http://railscasts.com/episodes/197-nested-model-form-part-2. I have successfully implemented the nesting among these forms/partials. The simpler 'check box' way to delete records works properly. The problem occurs when I try to add/delete records. When I include link_to_add_fields "Add Answer", f, :answers, I get undefined method `klass' for nil:NilClass. Thanks everyone.

Is the order of params important in NHibernate?

If I have an int parameter followed by a string parameter in a sproc I get the following error: Input string was not in the correct format However, if I switch those parameters in the sproc than I get the result set I expect. Are params sorted by data type, or do I have to do anything special in my config file?
