• LACP : Cisco ASA 5515 & Switch ProCurve 2920

  I've two ASAs 5515 connected in failover Active/Stand by (on Gi0/5) My two ASAs are connected to two Switch ProCurve 2920 to have HA if something happens. So I plug something like that (don't pay attention to the arrows) : So one the ASA, I created a Port-Channel like that : interface GigabitEthernet0/0 nameif outside security-level 0 ip address 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.1.4 ! interface GigabitEthernet0/1 speed 1000 duplex full channel-group 1 mode passive no nameif no security-level no ip address ! interface GigabitEthernet0/2 speed 1000 duplex full channel-group 1 mode passive no nameif no security-level no ip address ! interface Port-channel1.1 vlan 1 nameif inside security-level 100 ip address 192.168.8.1 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.8.2 ! interface Port-channel1.10 vlan 10 nameif guest security-level 50 ip address 172.16.100.2 255.255.255.224 standby 172.16.100.3 ! interface Port-channel1.16 vlan 16 nameif dmz security-level 50 ip address 192.168.16.1 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.16.2 On the switch, I created a trunk LACP capable with the port 1 and 2 on each switch, force the speed to 1000 and put the port un full duplex mode. BUT this is not working... I tried many things and I can't make it work. In this configuration, I can't ping anything between my ASA and my Switch (or any object connected). If I look at the statut of LACP on the switch I see this : PORT LACP TRUNK PORT LACP LACP NUMB ENABLED GROUP STATUS PARTNER STATUS ----- ------- ----- ------ ------- ------ 1 Active trk1 Up No Success 2 Active trk1 Up No Success I don't have any clue on what's going on so If someone have any idea and help me on this, it would be great ! I have one question in particular regarding Oracle ADF: How can it be better than Spring or EJB 3.x? No offense to the ADF developers - and please excuse my ignorance - but is there a reason for using ADF other than locking customers to Oracle products? If ADF is an inferior technology I fear I will be making a mistake choosing to specialize in ADF.

• Mapping java.util.Date to xs:date instead of xs:dateTime in JAX-WS

  Hi all, We hav an EJB, jws-anotated as a web service. It has a pretty complex pojo-model that generates an equally complex xsd. The pojos contain numerous java.util.Date. These all map to xs:dateTime. This service is used as "business service" in Oracle(BEA) OSB(AquaLogic). We also have a "proxy service" which we map to the BS with XQuery (the OSB/AquaLogic way). The proxy service's xsd has xs:date for the corresponding fields. For some reason, Oracle's implementation of XQuery does not support casting from xs:date to xs:dateTime(!). I could solve this by casting to xs:string and concat:ing with "T00:00:00", however, i would rather try to get JAX-WS to generate an xsd with xs:date instead. Only, I can't find any info on how to do this (anotations?). Can anyone give me a hint? Kind regards, Lars

• Large ResultSet on postgresql query

  I'm running a query against a table in a postgresql database. The database is on a remote machine. The table has around 30 sub-tables using postgresql partitioning capability. The query will return a large result set, something around 1.8 million rows. In my code I use spring jdbc support, method JdbcTemplate.query, but my RowCallbackHandler is not being called. My best guess is that the postgresql jdbc driver (I use version 8.3-603.jdbc4) is accumulating the result in memory before calling my code. I thought the fetchSize configuration could control this, but I tried it and nothing changes. I did this as postgresql manual recomended. This query worked fine when I used Oracle XE. But I'm trying to migrate to postgresql because of the partitioning feature, which is not available in Oracle XE. My environment: Postgresql 8.3 Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit JRE 1.6 64-bit Spring 2.5.6 Postgresql JDBC Driver 8.3-603

  A lot of people know that it is important to use parameterized queries to prevent sql injection attacks. Parameterized queries are also much faster in sqlite and oracle when doing online transaction processing because the query optimizer doesn't have to reparse every parameterized sql statement before executing. I've seen sqlite becoming 3 times faster when you use parameterized queries, oracle can become 10 times faster when you use parameterized queries in some extreme cases with a lot of concurrency. How about other db's like mysql, ms sql, db2 and postgresql? Is there an equal difference in performance between parameterized queries and literal queries?

• Application Runs when Debugging but not when Published.

  When publishing my web application and then running it will return the error "Could not load file or assembly 'BaseApplicationName' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." However if I run the application through debugging (f5) it runs correctly. I guess what it comes down to is what differences are there when running an application through debugging vs publishing it that would cause a problem like this? When publising I have it set to delete all existing. History of how it started... I added the 32 bit Oracle.DataAccess dll to my 64 bit system. It would not work and crash giving the same error as above but with the Oracle.DataAccess name instead of the baseApplicationName. I have since removed all references to it and removed the dll to try and get it to run without it once again. Any advice?

  Just trying to get my head round Spring and figuring out how I wire up an Oracle connection in xml config file, and now find out I need yet another framework! - Hibernate, this is soooo frustrating as it feels like I'm getting deeper and deeper into more and more frameworks without actually getting what I need done! I looked at Hibernate and it seems to do similar things to Spring, bearing in mind I just want to do some SQL inserts in Oracle. • Is MS Reporting Services suitable for stand-alone reports?

  Hello all: I work for a ISV. Our product can use both SQL Server and Oracle as its back-end server. It includes a number of reports (currently in Crystal). We are investigating moving to Micrsoft Reporting Services, but I'm beginning to think that it's a bad idea. We want for our reports to look and feel as though they are a part of our application, and we will not require SQL Server (the customer can choose Oracle). Although I see the reporting services supports a stand-alone mode (RDLC), the boundry between what requires SQL server and what doesn't looks extremely ambiguous. (example, the stand-alone report builder appears to require SQL Server, most of the documentation appears to be part of SQL Server's documentation) It looks to me like if I want to keep my application DB-agnostic, I had better steer clear of Reporting Services. Have I missed the boat here?

Our servers are behind an AWS Elastic Load Balancer (ELB), which cannot provide a static IP address; many threads about this here. My thought is to create an instance in EC2 whose sole purpose in life is to be a reverse proxy server having it's own IP address; accepting HTTPS requests and forwarding them to the load balancer.   According to Oracle's site, the class Color has a constructor that accepts a single int value which represents an RGB value. http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/awt/Color.html#Color(int) An RGB color is actually three different numbers ranging from 0-255. So combining them together to make one int would look like this: White 255,255,255 White 255255255 Right? So I pass this to the constructor and get a vibrant teal color. What am I doing wrong? • Is it okay to pass injected EntityManagers to EJB bean's helper classes and use it?

  We have some JavaEE5 stateless EJB bean that passes the injected EntityManager to its helpers. Is this safe? It has worked well until now, but I found out some Oracle document that states its implementation of EntityManager is thread-safe. Now I wonder whether the reason we did not have issues until now, was only because the implementation we were using happened to be thread-safe (we use Oracle). @Stateless class SomeBean { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; private SomeHelper helper; @PostConstruct public void init(){ helper = new SomeHelper(em); } @Override public void business(){ helper.doSomethingWithEm(); } } Actually it makes sense.. If EntityManager is thread-unsafe, a container would have to do inercept business() this.em = newEntityManager(); business(); which will not propagate to its helper classes. If so, what is the best practice in this kind of a situation? Passing EntityManagerFactory instead of EntityManager?

  Hello, I use weblogic 10. Its provide an Oracle JDBC driver 10.2.0.2 (in the server/lib on weblogic home). Actually someone at work put a long time ago a 10.2.0.3 driver in instance libext folder. But in production we got a jdbc driver stack (nullpointer :O) and by reverse engineering it seems we are using driver 10.2.0.2. We know that we could change the driver in the server/lib of weblogic but i want to understand. Isn't libext supposed to override server libs like META-INF libs override libext? By the way we are in a strange situation: - We have 2 EAR, and for the exact same treatment in those 2, one will sometime throw the oracle driver nullpointer while the other doesn't - I wonder if one ear isn't using 10.2.0.2 while the other is using 10.2.0.3 (i saw a bug fixed that could fit to our problem for this version). - I need to look better but at first sight both ear use the exact same datasource set in weblogic JNDI resources Any idea?

• Getting my webapp to be database agnostic with Hibernate...

  So the ultimate in scope-creep came in the other day: since we're using Hibernate, could we make our webapp run on Oracle as well as MySQL, interchangably? I thought this would be a simple case of changing hibernate.cfg.xml so that instead of explicity stating MySQL-specific options, it would reference a JNDI datasource, allowing the application to build regardless of the database we intend to deploy to. Then changing to a different database would simply mean changing the separate datasource configuration in JBoss, Jetty, WebLogic etc. Is this realistic? Well, I got as far as setting that up in Jetty, but What's tripping me up right now is error about the hibernate.dialect not having been set in hibernate.cfg.xml. But If I set the dialect there, then my app is still going to be built in either MySQL or Oracle flavours, which is not really what I want. Either I'm trying to attempt the impossible or I've missed something fundamentally obvious... anyone else had a similar problem (and subsequent solution/workaround)?

  Hello, I'm developing a JEE application to run on Glassfish: Database (javaDB, MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle) EJB layer with JPA (Toplink essentials - from Glassfish) for database access JSF/Icefaces based web UI accessing the EJB layer The application will have a lot of concurrent web client, so I want to run it on different physical servers and use a load-balancer. My problem is now how to keep the applications synchronized. I intend to set up multiple servers, each running Glassfish with my EAR app installed. Whenever on one of the servers data is added to or removed from the database (via JPA, no direct SQL queries), this change should be reflected in the JPA layer on the other servers. I've been looking around for solutions to this, but couldn't find anything I really like (the full Toplink from Oracle claims to have a solution, but don't know). Doing a refresh before every access to a JPA entity could work, but is far from efficient. Are there any patterns, libraries, ... that could help here? Thanks a lot!

• What does open source license (like GNU-GPL) mean?

  I am looking forward to use an open source product which has GNU-GPL like license and it says that if I use that product, I must share the source code of my application. I am slightly confused about it. I understand that Linux is available under GNU-GPL license as well. Does it mean ALL linux application are and has to be open source? Does it mean I can ask for the source code of complete Oracle DB from Oracle Corp (at least the part that runs on Linux)?
