  With Oracle vs Google trial, it seems that Java is not entirely Open and free (as free software) as I expected. Although there exists completely free/open JVM, it's hard to know what is a copyright infringement with Java, and what is not. So I'd like to know if there is a completely Open and free language with open and free IDE (Eclipse-like) out there, Object Oriented if possible, and able to make window-based applications for the main OSs (Linux, Mac, Windows).

• Why are downloads from Canonical Partners repository so slow?

  If I need Sun Java, Adobe Flash Plugin or anything else that comes from Canonical Partners the package downloads are painfully slow even small sized packages like the Flash plugin, to speed things up I have to go here: http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/pool/partner/ to find what I want, download the packages with a download manager (which is usually about 20 times faster than the package manager) and then place them in my /var/cache/apt/archives folder I run the package manager afterwards, as long as the right versions of the packages I ask to install are detected in the /var/cache/apt/archives folder they will be installed immediately. I would like to stop doing this, so I am wondering if anyone else has this problem, what could be the cause and if there is a fix. I am located in the Western Caribbean region. I think it would be helpful to note that all other packages coming from the repository I have selected with synaptic download at acceptable speeds.

  Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a go. I simply require a little advice; A very large hosted e-commerce platform emailed me a while back and basically asked me to transfer my domain name to them. They made no offer but simply said 'why not change your domain to xx - xx instaead of xxxx' Not they own all the equivalent names in .com, .org all of them apart from my .co.uk I am a registered partner of theirs and my website is a portfolio of all my themes but I also get a lot of enquires through it. I had heard rumors this company is opening an office in the UK! I'm right in thinking I shouldn't just roll over right? I've put some much effort in to SEO and building my reputation... I can't just give it up surly?

  I run a website that includes a blog which was hand-coded by myself and is hosted on the same domain. My partner in this endeavour thinks it would be a good idea to open up a blogger/wordpress blog and duplicate the on-site blog on this off-site blog. AFAIK the main reason for doing this is the SEO benefits of the inbound links that this off-site blog will create. I think this is a bad idea, because: Effectively what we're doing is creating a (very small scale) link farm We're more likely to be punished than rewarded (in SEO terms) for duplicating our content across domains This introduces a problem of synchronising our content across domains. For example, if a blog post is edited on the on-site blog, then ideally the off-site blog should be similarly updated. I know very little about SEO, so would be interested to hear what more informed readers have to say.

  My new partner has an email list with over 1 Million email addresses for targeted traffic (no spam... only genuine subscribers from his last startup ) But now I have a problem.. how can I sent an email to all those email addresses ? I can't use my ISP SMTP mailer, they will block me immediately for bulk mailing. I thought of a way to send emails slowly . Like dividing them in sets of few thousands and sending to each set daily .   I installed acroread on Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit with gdebi (also tried dpkg and via repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ precise partner"). The result looks bad. For example the open-dialog is out of place, the folder-icons are green and the buttons are not rounded. Actually when I start acroread from the command-line, I get several messages and warnings: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar" Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "unity-gtk-module" Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine" Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" I remember, that I had this problem, whenever I used a 64bit-Ubuntu (even Ubuntu 12.04), but not when I used a 32bit-Ubuntu.
