• Differing form size between XP and 7

  I am developing a C# WinForms app on my XP dev machine with Visual C# Express 2008. I set the form to have a size of my liking with Width and Height on the designer and all looks good. I also set these dimensions to the MaximumSize property. Deploying the app to another XP machine, and the app looks like it does on my dev. However, in testing the app on a Win7 machine, the form has both horizontal and vertical scrollbars applied. I assume that this is due to the changed non-client size of the form, as determined by Win7. I can resize the window, but I would like it to be displayed correctly to begin with. So, my question is: What is the best way to correctly maintain a form size client area across OS'es? Thanks all.

• Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

  I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

• How do I use the Microsoft VSTO interfaces?

  hi, I would like to create an addin for microsoft outlook, and am using the visual studio tools to do so. However I am really struggling to get my head around the use of interfaces within the VSTO environment - the resources on MSDN show many useful looking interfaces, but I am unsure how to use these interfaces to access data. For example I am trying to add a new folder into an IMAP account but am finding it very difficult to work out how to get outlook to do so. Can anyone recommend any good resources for learning how to use VSTO (I have VSTO for dummies, but it doesn't cover the level of detail I need, I have been using MSDN, but I have found it doesnt offer much information on how to use the interfaces etc.) thanks.

• Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

  I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas?   As I'm coding for both Windows and Linux, I have a whole host of problems. Microsoft Visual C++ has no stdint header, but for that I wrote my own. Now I found out that MS C++'s new operator does not throw an exception, so I want to fix this a quickly as possible. I know I can define a Macro with Parameters in Parenthesis, can I define a macro that replaces MyClass x = new MyClass(); with #ifdef MSC_VER if(!(MyClass x = new MyClass()) { throw new std::bad_alloc(); } #else MyClass x = new MyClass(); #endif (or something equivalent), AND works in BOTH MS C++ and G++ ? Or alternatively if that is not possible, a batch file to run over the Code to do this? I have become rather dependent on this exception being thrown.

• Why do I get corrupt output on my file?

  I have a simple program which I have compiled in both MinGW and Visual C++ 2008 Express, and both give an output file larger than 88200. When I set s = 0, both programs work as expected. • Burn setup project to CD

  Hello all, I've never burnt a visual studio program to a CD before. I've made a setup project with all my program files, and it works fine. Do I simply need to burn the following installer files onto the CD and give it to someone? The installer is a folder containing: -DotNetFX35 (Folder): Contains .net requirements for my program. -WIndowsInstaller3_1 (Folder): WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe -setup.exe -My Installer.msi Sorry for the seemingly easy question. • Why does Windows Explorer search freeze when I have an unrelated program paused in a debugger

  While debugging my program, whether it's an ASP.NET application or a .NET console EXE and I have the debugger paused at a breakpoint I try to find a file in Windows Explorer. Either pressing WinKey+F or selecting search from the context menu freezes Windows Explorer - until I resume the program being debugged. My program has nothing to do with Windows Explorer! In fact, this happens in Visual Studio 2008 even with the simplest console EXE (WriteLine and ReadLine). I can't repro it with this simple EXE in WinDbg, but it does happen in with WinDb debugging an ASP.NET app. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? It's bloody annoying, especially when you don't realise what's going on. This is on Windows XP x64 SP2, running a .NET 3.5 application.

• Compile C++ from VS08/10 without Run Time Library / MFC

  Are there settings I can adjust in Visual Studio so that it does not compile with any run time library or MFC. I started learning C++ to get away from C#'s .Net, and this is just as bad. When I execute the program in a Windows XP virtual machine I get an error. I can compile without the dependencies in Code::Blocks, but I'm more familiar with VS, and prefer many of it's features over those of Code::Blocks. If you know of to get past this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  I'm playing around with associative arrays right now and I can't seem to figure out how to add additional objects to the array. I tried insert but it doesn't recognize both arguments. • Development enviroment for .NET

  I'm about to create an development enviroment for a little developer company(3-4 developers + some testers). Our development platform is .NET and Oracle. My question is how to structure the whole enviroment.How many servers do I need ? Should be one server for developers and one for testers ? I'd like to have one build server (TeamCity). Where to put the Subversion ? Visual Studio's would be on developers laptops. Do I need one database for development and one extra for build server ? What else could be helpful ??

• EntityDataSource Unable to configure to Entity Model

  I'm doing my first test asp.net3.5 app using EntityDataSource. I've got the basic project built and the Entity model created and compiled. Database is a local sqlexpress one in app_data directory. When I put the <asp:EntityDataSource /> control on the page and try to configure it, I'm getting the message "The list of named connections could not be loaded because the configuration could not be opened". At this point, everything in the project is "auto-created" by Visual Studio 2008sp1. I confused as I cannot find any information on how to correct from this message.

  I get the error message 'Can't create deploy folder.' when I try to profile a remote websites on WAWS. Actions taken: Downloaded and installed the dotTrace Profiler 5.5 from the JetBrains website Downloaded the dotTrace.Performance.Remote version 5.5.0 from Nuget Published the website to WAWS via Visual Studio 2013 Started the dotTrace application as Administrator Connected to the remote _https://subdomain.azurwebsites.net/AgentService.asmx. • Paging Recordsets from SQL Serverside

  I've been banging my head off this one for a while. I want to call 1k records from a SQL database and page them per 100. In classic ASP (where I'm moving from) this was dead easy to do with ADODB but with VB using ADO.net I can't find a single way that doesn't involve stored procs (which I want to avoid for now). It seems really stupid to call all 1k and sort it programmatically. Edit: It's SQL Server 2005 / .net 4.0 / Visual Studio 2010. Edit 2: Just to reiterate, I have Googled extensively and don't want to use stored procedures. There are many ways to get paged data but everything I see involves paging the data in the program rather than from the server.

• How to generate multiple Alter Scripts in SSMS

  I'm using sql server management studio 2008 to try and generate an alter script for each of my stored procedures in order to save the scripts for each revision. I can easily generate an alter script for each individual procedure, but I'm not trying to go through a hundred stored procedures manually. I know that SSMS has an automated generate scripts function under task, but the only options are create, drop and create, and drop. I cant seem to figure out how to enable alter. I've already searched through many SO articles, as well as a little digging in msdn, and I've come up with nothing. I'm hoping that the fine people of stackoverflow will be up to the challenge. • Visually Viewing and Editing a Two-Dimensional Array - VB/C#

  I've never personally used any of the Data controls within Visual Studio. I need to view and edit a two-dimensional byte array, 16x15 objects. Is there any control capable of editing this information? I've tried to access data with the DataViewGrid, but am not sure how to use it. It would be great to edit this information via rows and columns, like how you can in Excel. Thank you! Times like this I wish I could just use multiple text boxes and assign them each an index value. Oh VB6 how I miss you :P

• How to copy QT folder to another folder without reinstalling it?

  I have QT installed on disc D (on Windows). And I want to move it to disc C. Is it possible to do that? If I just copy QT folder from C to D then I see lot of errors when I compile my applications that use QT. Errors are because qmake.exe contains full paths to include, bin and libs folders inside. So, when I create solution for Visual Studio 2005 using qmake - then this solution contains dependencies to old QT folder from disc D. And I found no way how to remove this dependencies without reinstalling of QT. It is not a big problem for one my single machine - I can reinstall. But I need to deliver this change then to tens and hundreds of other developers machines and I want to make it as easy as possible without need to reinstall QT.

• debugging c# silverlight projects from vb web application

  Hi, I have a problem whereby I cannot debug a c# silverlight application project that is hosted from within a visual basic web application. I add breakpoints to the main App constructor and the symbols are loaded ok but my breakpoints are never hit. I have concluded that it is a vb/c# interop problem as to test i did the following. Created a new c# web application project Added a c# silverlight application Added a new vb web application project Added references to the silverlight project from both web apps set a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs constructor if i run the c# webapp the break points are hit whereas if i run the vb webapp they are not. has anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a solution please? • C# Serial Communications - Received Data Lost

Received data in my C# application is getting lost due to the collector array being over-written, rather than appended. private void serialPort1_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e) { try { pUartData_c = serialPort1.ReadExisting().ToCharArray(); bUartDataReady_c = true; } catch ( System.Exception ex ) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } } In this example pUartData_c is over-written every time new data is received. On some systems this is not a problem because the data comes in quickly enough. However, on other systems data in the receive buffer is not complete. How can I append received data to pUartData_c, rather than over-write it. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

I am trying to find a way to keep track of changes in my code during the development of my program. something that would allow me to go back to a section of code that I deleted. I am not talking about "undo". But rather a way that would let me keep track or be able to retrieve a section of my code that I deleted but now want it back. Is there such a way. • Handler not yet determined error

  Hello, I don’t know anything about deploying a website, so I probably made some stupid mistake. Anyways, I opened IIS 7 manager, created new virtual directory ( via Add Application ) and pointed it to physical directory where Visual studio saved my Web project. But when I tried to request an .aspx page, browser reported the following error (I won’t post the whole error, but just the interesting bits): Handler: Not yet determined Config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions Logon User: Not yet determined A) why is handler not yet determined? As far as I know, IIS7 does have Asp.Net handler registered?! B) Why wouldn’t IIS have sufficient permissions? Does that mean I should give IIS higher privileges? Or does Asp.Net runtime have insufficient permissions? C) Could the error also be due to the fact that perhaps it expected the user to authenticate itself? I’m assuming this due to Logon user not yet being determined? D) And finally, any ideas how to make it work? thanx

  I have implemented a Splash Screen according to WiredPrairie unmanaged c++ splasher class. But not when my application loads, my window isn't activated. The user has to click on the login box even thought it is the only window open in my application. I have tried the following but none of these work. Topmost = true; Focus(); Activate(); Is there any way to give my login window focus when the application starts? Sometimes the window behind it has focus! (Visual Studio if run on my machine), Explorer or a different application window on other peoples machines. Anyone have any idea?

  Problem: Visual C++ 10 project (using MFC and Boost libraries). In one of my methods I'm reading simple test.txt file. Here is what inside of the file (std::string): 12 asdf789, 54,19 1000 nsfewer:22!13 Then I'm reading it and I have to convert all digits to int only with boost methods. For example, I have a list of different characters which I have to parse: ( ’ ' ) ( [ ], ( ), { }, ? ? ) ( : ) ( , ) ( ! ) ( . ) ( - ) ( ? ) ( ‘ ’, “ ”, « » ) ( ; ) ( / ) And after conversation I must have some kind of a massive of int's values, like this one: 12,789,54,19,1000,22,13 Maybe some one already did this job?
