    These two commands produce files that are slightly different in size. In particular: tar --use-compress-program=pbzip2 -cf old_logs.tbz2 1tree_* 4tree_* 8tree_* The file old_logs.tbz2 is 100557548 bytes large. The command: tar jcf old_logs.tbz 1tree_* 4tree_* 8tree_* produce the file old_logs.tbz that is 98783046 bytes large. Where the difference in the two files originate from ? I'm using bsdtar 2.8.3 - libarchive 2.8.3 on mac osx 10.8.5.

    I have a mac that is hooked into a sound board, I have external sound card that interfaces between the computer and the soundboard, this works great. However, whenever the computer restarts it sets the input & output to the 'internal microphone' and the 'built in output'. I'd like to default to the other soundcard. How can I do this?     Howdy, I'm a big fan of ksh93. My hosts' shell account does not allow me to configure .login .profile or chsh to change my default shell. As it is, I am dropped into jailshell-3.2 and I have to invoke /bin/ksh93 manually. Is there some work around for this? Thanks in advance.

    I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom). Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?

    Hi I've got a problem with VS command prompt - it keeps using the wrong settings for fonts in the window. When I launch the command prompt via start - run it works fine, when I launch my app directly, it works fine. But when I push the F5 button and compile my little app, the console that automatically starts uses 4x4 raster fonts. No matter what the default settings are. Anyone got any idea?

  • Macbook Pro + Windows: How to make external monitor default monitor for games

    When I boot into Windows on my Macbook Pro, I am unable to make the external monitor the default monitor. So when I play games full screen, they automatically open up on my laptop monitor. I want them to open up on my secondary monitor. The only solution I found to this is to make my external monitor mirror my laptop monitor. I can't even close the lid of the laptop monitor because that will cause the system to go to sleep.

Searching online gives many step-by-stepp instruction in creating an Outlook Profile, which lets you add email accounts, data files etc. but does not seem to reset the Outlook options.     I am writing an application that contains a web server running on port 50000. On Windows 7, short of turning the firewall off completely, I am having trouble configuring the firewall to allow other computers on the same private LAN to connect to the server. Simply adding the program to the allowed programs list doesn't seem to work. The network connection is set to be a "Home" network (but I am not using Home Networking). Can anyone suggest where I should be looking to troubleshoot this? Bruce

    An old junk mail filter program I used to use created a junk email folder. When I moved from Outlook 2003 to 2007, Outlook created a new folder called Junk Email1. Now, after our move to a new Exchange server, I now have a "Junk Email" folder and the existing "Junk Email1" folder. Is there a way to change the default Outlook Junk Email folder back to "Junk Email"?

  • Trying to install an old program on Windows XP and getting an error message

    Hello I'm trying to install an older application named headline.exe. I'm getting an error message saying the the program has to end and asking if I want to notify Microsoft. The event logs says "Faulting application _untitled.exe version 1.0.0.1591, faulting module flash6.ocx, version 6.0.88.0, fault address blah blah blah. I uninstalled flash and installed version 6 of Flash and nothing changed. Any thoughts? Thanks
