• How to contact an emergency service using only Internet?

  Suppose you are apart from the mobile or whatever phone (so can't call 112 or 911 or 999), but have have access to a computer with internet connection. How do you call/message an emergency service (of whatever country in hope they will route the request to the correct destination) using only Internet? Maybe there's some 911-like website or public SIP or whatever? Or better go to some chat/forum/StackExchange/whatever and ask somebody to make a call for you? (will users really believe?) /* 1. • Can't deploy an ejb bean on jboss

  I am try to deploy a jar to an jboss server. It works on my environment. But when I deployed the same jar on another server, i kept getting an error saying that the persistence unit is already registered. There is no other bean using the same name and the same persistence unit name. I tried to restart the server and remove the tmp, work, data directory but still get the same error. here is my error: ObjectName: jboss.j2ee:service=EJB3,module=wess_jpa.jar State: FAILED Reason: java.lang.RuntimeException: javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException: persistence.units:unitName=dses_wess already registered. • My Unicomp Model M is double-striking on a key. What to do?

  I realize this isn't strictly a computer-related question, but I figured that if there's any place to go for help about a broken keyboard, it would be a power users' forum. The O key on my Unicomp Model M has the tendency to strike twice. In other words, I press the key once, and it sends out two letters. There is probably a mechanical solution to this, but I'm not familiar enough with how these things work to come up with a fix myself. Has anyone had this problem?

• Enable: Asp.net connection pool monitoring with performance monitor

  If this question is at the wrong forum, be free to tell me. I'm a c# developer, but I'm running in a system management issue here. Intro: Im suspecting that an asp.net application is having some issues with the connection pool and that the pool is flooding from time to time. So to make sure, I want to monitor the connection pool. The problem: So I logged in to the asp.net server(The sql database is hosted on a different server) which hosts the website. Started performance monitor. But when I want to select 'Current # pooled and nonpooled connections', I have no instance to select. There fore I can't add it. Question How can I create/supply an instance so I can monitor the connection pool? Thanks in advance BHD

• USB microphone very quiet in Windows 7 64bit [migrated]

  My microphone input is very quiet. I record my voice and the recording comes out very faint. I can barely see the level indicator move when I'm 4 inches away, only when I'm 0.5 inches away does it pick up well enough. • Hanging page loads every n loads

  Hi Guys I recently moved my site to a new server (Apache 2, PHP5, MySQL5). The site is an Invision based forum. Every few posts / topics it just hangs. The data has been written because if you stop and reload, the post / thread is there. I thought it was a write issue initially, but nope. So, the data is written but the page load never completes. It doesn't leave the page where the data has been input. Whats the best way to trouble shoot this issue? The only thing I have done recently is reduce my MySQL timeouts, but I can't see that being an issue as the values are still big enough and there are no mentions of timeouts in the MySQL log. (For the record there is nothing in PHP's error log either) Thanks in advance!

• Why did windows change the elevation requirements of my AutoHotKey script, and how can I prevent such in the future?

  I was working on an AutoHotKey (AHK) script to create prefab mouse movements for a very simple model viewer. I worked on it for a good hour. I zipped the script, posted it to a forum, and thought "oh hey, I should add bla bla bla to the script". When I returned to the program, the AHK script would not work. I could see the mouse movements working in other programs (notepad, chrome, etc), but not where I had been working the previous hour. After several hours of throwing darts at the troubleshooting wall, I discovered that the fix was to set the AHK.exe to Run as Administrator. The question here are multiple Why did Windows 7, in all it's wisdom, suddenly decide that elevation was necessary in the middle of usage? Can these permission requirements somehow be reverted by, say, removing a key from the registry or something? How can this kind of Windows behaviour be avoided in the future?

• How to Enable old networking protocols in Windows 7

  Hi, A few days ago I installed Win7 32bit on a PC and it wouldn't talk to my Lacie NAS which is running WinXP embedded. My other Win7 PC's had no problem. After a bit of searching I found a forum post that told me to enable older networking protocols on the Win7 PC, I think it was win98 protocols or something like that. I had to run a .msc program to do this. It fixed the problem. Now, I have a similar problem on another Win7 PC and for the life of me cannot find that posting and cannot remember what I did! Does anyone know the program or setting to do this? Thanks, Will.

• Caching without file extensions

  I'm trying to use Varnish to show the non-logged in users a cached version of my website. I'm able to perfectly detect if the user is logged in or out, but I can't cache pages without extensions. There is no file extension because nginx is rewriting the URL to a php script(so caching .php does not work). For example I'd like varnish to cache: example.com example.com/forum/ example.com/contact/ I have tried if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "^/") { return(lookup); } if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "") { return(lookup); } if (req.request == "GET" && req.url ~ "/") { return(lookup); } but nothing seems to work... any help?

• xDebug on Zend Server CE under Windows XP

  I have Zend Server installed on my Windows XP development machine, installed when I was naive and didn't know that Eclipse was going to become so suck so badly for PHP development. I've made the upgrade to Netbeans, but for debugging they only support xDebug. To be fair I've never used "proper" debuggers before, but other folks have raved about them so I thought I'd give it a try. I followed some directions on the Zend forum about how to install xDebug on Zend server, disabling Zend Debugger in the process. The xDebug "custom installation instructions" wizard tells me that my PHP was compiled with an unsupported compiler (MS VC8), and won't let me download anything. I tried a couple of the other xDebug binaries, but they just refused to load. So I'm left without a debugger option. Does anyone know how I can change the compiler of the php version I have installed so I can use a debugger in Netbeans? or how else i can get xDebug to install on Zend Server?

  I have a cPanel installed on a CentOS server and it includes an old version of Mysql. Has anyone tried upgrading Mysql to 5.5 on a cPanel managed server? If so, I would really like some guidance. I read, on the cPanel forum, that it's not supported and one user complained, after manually upgrading his version of Mysql, cPanel automatically removed it, but that was a long time ago. Also, I'm a newbie to Linux, so please forgive any dumb questions. Help... Thanks.

  I am looking at Outlook for Mac (in Office 2011). I wanted to find out what versions of Exchange are supported, as well as whether MAPI is supported. I googled and also searched the Microsoft site. I also checked in wikipedia, but it was probably too soon. I found announcement about Outlook for Mac I found the system requirements on the official site, but they don't say anything on these topics. I saw some forum traffic saying: MAPI is not supported, but there was no attribution, so I won't bother to quote it. Can anyone point me to some official documents that address these concerns?

  I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value.   Possible Duplicate: How do you find a new software to download? I see that the most time I spend on the computer I lose to just searching for suitable software. How you do it? What is your way to find software? Do you first go to a forum or google? Which torrent site? which P2P program, website or server? For example: "I need a software that have functions as a remote desktop and also lets you copy and paste (drag and drop - file manager). And after few hours searching on Google I downloaded LOGMEIN Pro2, but than I see that is just trial. So if I need to find alternative I will spend another whole day. Where to go? I am not an amateur but I need a better system. I need better introduction on how to find what is the suitable software.

• How many users are "many users"?

  I need to find a solution for a website which is struggling under load. The site gets ~500 simultaneous connections during peak time, and counts around 42k hits per day. It's a wordpress based site bridged with a vbulletin forum with a lot of contents and a fairly complex structure which makes intensive use of the database. I already implemented code level full page caching (without this the server just crashes), and configured all other caching directives as well as combining css files and the like to limit http requests as much as possible. I need to understand if there is more that can be done via software or if the load is just too much for the server to handle and it needs to be upgraded, because the server goes down occasionally during peak times. Can't access the server now, but it's a dedicated CentOS machine (I think 4GB ram, can't say what CPU) running apache/mysql. So back to the main question: how can I know when the users are just too many?

  I'm trying to install Umbraco CMS on Windows 7 64-bit and I get the following exception: [HttpException (0x80004005): Could not load file or assembly 'ImageManipulation, Version=1.0.2105.41209, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant minimum permission required. The application pool's trust mode is set to 'Full', all the user permissions are just as on other sites hosted on the same machine. I went through all relevant topics on Umbraco's forum, but all advices are about the trust level. How do I fix this?

• Using pg_connect() with wamp server and postgresql

  Help! I am trying to connect to a Postgres database and can't get the server to connect. I've been working on this for hours and can't figure out how to get pg_connect to work. Any ideas???

• Setting Up an IP Camera in ZoneMinder from Ubuntu

  I recently bought a TV-IP312W wireless IP camera. I've completed the basic setup on the camera itself, and confirmed I can stream video using the utility CamViewer. Now I'm trying to access the camera from ZoneMinder, so I can setup monitors and alerts. However, I'm finding the documentation a bit laking. Following the tutorial and a forum post, I've install ZoneMinder, and can access the web interface, but I'm getting stuck at the "Check that your Camera Works!" section. I can add a monitor, but after I add the configuration: Source Type: FFMPEG Source Path: http://192.168.1.105/cgi/mjpg/mjpeg.cgi?.mjpeg all I get is a broken image. What am I doing wrong?

• How do you cache web pages with a personalized header using caching reverse proxy such as Squid, Var

  Pretty much every page of my website is dynamically generated. However they don't change that frequently (kinda similar to a forum page). So I'd like to cache them using a caching reverse proxy such as Squid, varnish or Nginx. The problem is that for my logged-in users, each of them will see a personalized header saying "Welcome John Doe. Logout" on the upper right corner of the page (just like serverfault). While users who aren't logged in will see a header that says "Login" instead. So basically even though every user will see the same page in general, they all slightly different version due to that personalized header. Is there any way so that I can cache the "main" part of the page and serve it from cache while generate the personalized header dynamically for each individual user? This must be a very common problem. How is it solved in general?

  We are considering a change of email servers and Kerio Connect is attractive. However, I am concerned about calendaring functionality. I found an old forum post that states the question well: "We want to create a single public calendar that everyone can see - using Windows XP/Outlook 2003/KOC 6.4.1. We want a way for people to put an entry in their own personal calendar and some how mark it so the entry auto add's or syncs with the public one. If an entry is private it wouldn't sync to the shared public calendar... Has anyone ever heard of a way to do this - in any way with any software?" This is a high priority feature, so if Kerio cannot do this, we may consider Exchange. Does Exchange provide functionality like that described?

• Linux Bluetooth [closed]

  Not sure if this is the proper forum; please forgive me if it's not... I have a Lenovo S10 'netbook' that I've installed Fedora 17 ("LXDE spin") on. So far pretty much everything works great, except, the on-board Bluetooth. lsusb shows the controller present (0a5c:2101 Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth Controller), hcitool dev shows hci0 present, but when I put my mouse ("Lenovo Bluetooth Laser Mouse," which works perfectly paired with a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Lenovo SL500 (with a USB dongle; running Windows 7)) into pairing mode and run either hcitool scan (reports "Scanning ..." and, without further information or error message, returns to the shell prompt) or bluetooth-wizard (from the gnome-bluetooth package) and try to detect the mouse, I get nothing... Frustrating! Thanks anyone who can point me in the right direction!
