    Hi guys! I'm having a dispute with a colleague of mine. She says that the following: char* a = "\x000aaxz"; will/can be seen by the compiler as "\x000aa". I do not agree with her, as I think you can have a maximum number of 4 hex characters after the \x. Can you have more than 4 hex chars? Who is right here?

  • Help with simple query - why isn't an index being used?

    I have the following query: SELECT MAX([LastModifiedTime]) FROM Workflow There are approximately 400M rows in the Workflow table. There is an index on the LastModifiedTime column as follows: CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_Workflow_LastModifiedTime] ON [dbo].[Workflow] ( [LastModifiedTime] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, ONLINE = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON, FILLFACTOR = 100) The above query takes 1.5 minutes to execute. Why wouldn't SQL Server use the above index and simply retrieve the last row in the index to get the maximum value? Thanks.

    Hello, We have observed that there seems to be a maximum number of ids/variables which one can pass in the IN clause of SQL as comma seperated values. To avoid this we are storing all the ids in a table and doing a SELECT within the IN clause. This however means extra database operations to store and retrieve ids. Is there any other way to use IN without SELECT? regards Sameer

    When I learned Java, I was told that the arraylist works this way: It creates an array with room for 10 elements. When the 11th element is added, it is created a new list with room for 20 elements, and the 10 elements are copied into the new array. This will repeat as until there are no more elements to add, or to a maximum size. Is the List in .NET constructed the same way?

    Given a protein structure from the PDB, I would like to generate NS spheres of radius Rs which cover totally the protein surface. Given RS there, NS is the maximum number of spheres so they do not overlap. I would need the coordinates of the center of each sphere.     Hi I'd like to programatically increase the height allocated to a TextView, and have the activity layout redrawn accordingly (the text view has a maximum height until the user clicks it, then it takes up all height required, wrap_content). setHeight() isn't working, even coupled with invalidate() or postInvalidate(). I am able to change the contents of the TextBox with setText() but it isn't altering the existing specified height. Android 1.5 under the 1.6 SDK.

  • NetBackup with VSS and Instant Recovery - Failing to delete old snapshots

    We are attempting to implement Microsoft VSS for snap-shotting in our NetBackup 6.5.3.1 environment. The clients are both 32 & 64 bit Windows 2003 Server. Snapshot parameters are: Instant recovery is enabled Maximum snapshots = 1 Provider type = 1 (System) Snapshot attribute = 1 (Differential) All backups successfully complete, and VSS shadows are successfully created both for the snapshot backup and for the open files (shadow copy components). The Issue: NetBackup is not clearing or overwriting old snapshots with each successive backup. When we list shadows, and shadow storage, it is increasing and increasing. IT is not honouring the Maximum Snapshot setting. The Logs: The bpfis log doesn’t really appear to show any errors other than for methods which we are not employing (VxVM, Flashsnap, etc.).
