• unable to get into windows 7 or ubuntu after system file back on a dual boot system

  I installed ubuntu on my dell xps 9000 which originally has a window 7 installed. So after I did system file back up as told by windows 7 and restarted my computer, I received the following message right after restarting in the black screen: roughly like this: ubuntu grub error, " " symbol cannot be found. I was wondering how I can get access into windows 7 and uninstall ubuntu all together. I actually had the same booting problem after system backup before and the solution was to install two extra ubuntus but I'd prefer not to do that. I'd highly appreciate any help!

  I read the following page: Robert Benson's article on ECF developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/event_completion.html I also read the Solaris man pages but they are not very clear of how to use event notifications for directories. For example, If I add a new file into a directory, I would like to get some notification of that event.   Hi, I got a piece of code that loops through the array and looks for the similar and same strings in it - marking it whether it's unique or not. loop X array for I ( loop X array for Y ( If X is prefix of Y do. else if x is same length as Y and it's prefix do something. ) Here is the code to finilize everything for I and corresponding (found/not found) matches in Y. ) I'd like to make this for dual-core to multithread it. To my knowledge it is not possible, but it's highly probable that you may have some idea.

• Comparing 2 mysql tables and updating only records that have changed

  I have the following. Two mysql tables. I want to copy info that has changed from table a to b. For example if row 1 column 2 has changed in table a I want to only update that column in table b. Table b is not the same as a but has same columns that also exist in a. The other solution I have is to just clear table b and replace it with the contents from table a, the problem with this could be that the script will take longer to execute, since there are more than 10000 records. Any advise for which method would work the best will be highly appreciated

• Can one TabBarItem be used for two different ViewControllers?

  I am creating an app with three tabBarItems, but I want to control four ViewControlers with three tabBars. I am trying to use one tabBar for two different viewcontrollers. I am able to change the tabBartitle and icon upon tap, but I cannot reset it so it can go back to it's previous status with previous title and icon. Also, I am confused about using the tabBarController or just tabBar and to call what function to reload/refresh the tabBar status and where exactly? I am fairly new to the iPhone SD, please describe your answer clearly any help will be highly appreciated.

• While submitting app to iOS App Store, "Unable to unzip application"

  I've successfully submitted "Product Name" to App Store. However, submitting "Product Name Lite", I keep getting the error "Unable to unzip application" in both Application Loader and built-in Xcode's uploader. Error persists even after eliminating spaces from the product name; in fact, I don't think there's whitespace anywhere in the app or the plist anymore. What might be causing this "highly descriptive" error? I'm using Xcode 3.2.5. Attempting to clean, build, and build&archive did not help.

• Graphic programming over video playback

  I want to make some GUI mockup program for video player, so my idea is just to show some menu pictures over real video being playback. I have working program made with C and SDL just to load pictures and make a slideshow, but i don´t know how to put this over video with transparencies. • Problem sending php variables to flash game, on facebook

  When I run the app for the first time in a session it works great i get all data form Database(if i logout, and enter with a diffrent account)the swf does not receive the variables. If i run manually the script typing the url address in the browser (typing: http://myserver.com/app/variables.php), and refresh the facebook app, it receives the data perfectly.How can i fix this?I used the URLVariables, URLRequest and flashvars but still with no succes.I asked for help on many forums but without succes, apparently there are many in my situation.Could this porblem be due the fact tha facebook does not allow flash to talk outside? Any help would be highly apreciated!Thanks!!

• How to overcome an apparent REST vs. DRY dilemma in rails?

  A rails app I'm working on features examples of quadratic equations. Obviously, these are all of a common structure: ax^2 + bx + c = 0. I don't want to store every single example of these. I'd rather generate them from a template. Storing hundreds of possible versions of this structure seems highly wasteful and un-DRY. On the other hand, if I generate them, I can't access them again reliably as I could if they were simply multiple database objects. I'm sure there must be a way to overcome this, but I'm still learning rails and I'm obviously not grasping something here. Thanks.

• Redirects in RoR: Which one to use?

  Hello, we are making a website that takes a generated incoming link and forwards the user who is clicking on it to another website while saving a record of the action in our DB. I guess it's basically what ad-services like AdSense do. However, what is the best way to redirect the user? I think html-meta-tag-redirects are out of question. So what other options are there? head :moved_permanently, :location => "http://www.domain.com/" This one is a 301-redirect. The next one is a 302: redirect_to "http://www.domain.com" Are there any others? And which is best to use for our case? The links are highly-dynamic and change all the time. We want to make sure we don't violate any existing standards and of course we don't want search-engines to tag us as spammers (which we are not, btw). Thanks!

• Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

  Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

  I need to extract a specific Id from a html document but the problem is that the id must not "be used". Here is the html content http://pastebin.com/wF2dx8JZ As you may see there are different html blocks . Some of them contain the "Used" word so I need to extract only the first id which is not used. Basically I can write a simple pattern like : $pattern = "/javascript:tw(.*))/"; preg_match_all($pattern, $content, $matches); $id = $matches[1][0]; However in this case I'm also getting the "ids" which are used so I don't know how to exclude them from the equation . Any idea would be highly appreciated.

• ASP.NET Website no Response while Processing Long Process

  Dear Programmers, When my Application face a long-time process, i.e fetch a query (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) This query needs 10 seconds to be completed in the MSSQL Management Studio, but when the ASP.NET application try to fetch it, it refuse to return any response to any other requests made on that Server. I am hosting my Application on VPS Server with good specifications, and I am giving this example the (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) just to tell you the issue, it can be any process, maybe processing a movie, or even fetching some data through external API that is experiencing some slow-down,or whatever. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

On doing that, an custom popup (ajax popup implemented in javascript) will open. The fire_event("ondblclick") is not working for me. I also tried 'click' twice but that too is not helping. I need a ASP.NET based blogging engine that wouul use SQL Server as a back end and allow multiple independet blogs in one app instance. I'm writing a community website for major bank and blogging is the piece I'm not sure about. Answers to other questions include a broad spectrum from BlogEngine.NET (doesn't support multiple blogs) to CommunityServer (a beast! blogging is just asmall piece of it). I don't want to install a full-blown CRM and just use blogging, I want a blogging engine. I don't mind to buy a commercial one but I can't find one. I'm pretty much stuck, and any ideas are highly appreciated!

• Good book suggestions for building enterprise software

  Enterprise software are built using technologies/softwares/terminologies/APIs such as EJB, JBoss, Seam, Hibernate(JPA), Maven, Eclipse, Spring, JTS, JMS, JNDI etc. I know there are great books out there for each of these individually, however can someone suggest a book or two that covers all (or most of) these topics in lesser detail and gives examples of how these are integrated? I have intentionally left the client side stuff out because its highly unlikely a single book would cover that much. If anyone knows of a book (or books) that cover most of or various combinations (like EJB, Hibernate, Spring and Seam) of these technologies, please do suggest the same. The idea is not to become an expert in all however know about them in reasonable detail and why each one is required.

  I am looking to create a special type of combination in which no two sets have more than one intersecting element. Let me explain with an example: Let us say we have 9 letter set that contains A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I If you create the standard non-repeating combinations of three letters you will have 9C3 sets. These will contain sets like ABC, ABD, BCD, etc. I am looking to create sets that have at the most only 1 common letter. So in this example, we will get following sets: ABC, ADG, AEI, AFH, BEH, BFG, BDI, CFI, CDH, CEG, DEF, and GHI - note that if you take any two sets there are no more than 1 repeating letter.   Hey, Im trying to write a program that would be listening for data (simple text messages) on some port (say tcp 6666) and then pass them to one or more different protocols - irc, xmpp and so on. I've tried many approaches and digged the Internet, but I cant find easy and working solution for such task. Or maybe there is other, better, easier and more kosher way to create single reactor with multiple protocols and have actions triggeres when a message arrives on any of them, and then pass that message to other protocols for handling/processing/sending? • Effective methods for reading and writing large files in C

  I'm writing an application that deals with very large user-generated input files. The program will copy about 95 percent of the file, effectively duplicating it and switching a few words and values in the copy, and then appending the copy (in chunks) to the original file, such that each block (consisting of between 10 and 50 lines) in the original is followed by the copied and modified block, and then the next original block, and so on. The user-generated input conforms to a certain format, and it is highly unlikely that any line in the original file is longer than 100 characters long. Which would be the better approach? a) To use one file pointer and use variables that hold the current position of how much has been read and where to write to, seeking the file pointer back and forth to read and write; or b) To use multiple file pointers, one for reading and one for writing. I am mostly concerned with the efficiency of the program, as the input files will reach up to 25,000 lines, each about 50 characters long. Thanks!

  I usually define my string variables in vb.net as Dim f_sName as string=String.Empty f_sName = "foo" Given the immutable nature of strings in .net, is there a better way to initialize strings and deal with the "Variable 'f_sName ' is used before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime." warning? Also for classes that do not have constructors which accept no arguments such as System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream, what is the best way to define and initialize a variable of that type? • Show only one validation error-message using replaceWith

  I am currently working with the jQuery validation plugin, and I want to show only one error-message before the form itself.
