  • Transitioning from C++ to C#

    I am very experienced in C and C++ but am having problems finding current opportunities. I decided to switch to C# but noticed that while the syntax is very similar, the programming styles are very different (we don't have IEnumerable etc in C). So the problem I am having now is having 20 years of experience but is only a junior when it comes to interviewing for a C# job. Most of the problems are me not being able to answer questions like 1) How do you do XYZ in Sql Server? 2) What's the use of in Spring.NET In other words, the phone interviewers don;t care if you know DB programming or not - they want to know if you know SQL Server. I am frustrated because the guys who are doing the interviews seem to be so narrow sighted in knowing ONLY C#, .NET and SQL Server, that I don't know how to get past them.

So instead of "0.123", the results are "1230." without moving the cursor myself. I also apologize if this is a duplicate question.

Floating point data is approximate; therefore, not all values in the data type range can be represented exactly. Which is what I expected it to say.     How does iOs know? Does each view has a pointer to it's controller? What happened? When we pop a viewController from navigation, does the navigationController arrange which view should be called? For example: If I added: [[BNUtilitiesQuick window] addSubview:[BNUtilitiesQuick searchController].view]; viewWillAppear will be called. However, window doesn't know the viewController. I am passing the view outlet of the controller not the controller. How can iOs 5 knows that it has to call [[BNUtilitiesQuick searchController] viewWillAppear:YES]

A value also has to be entered, and I can just Messagebox.Show() a warning and that's all I'd need to do.   • Creating a floating button

    Hey all, I'm working on a Firefox extension and am out of ideas on how to implement a floating button. I need a button that is overlayed on my page that I can show/hide and dynamically position just about anywhere on my page. I thought I could do something like a fancy CSS tool-tip except replace it with button functionality, but that idea failed because I couldn't pull my example apart well enough to understand what all I need to include, need to change, etc. I've thought about using jQuery(though wouldn't mind avoiding, unless it makes this painfully easy) but will be looking more into that as a possibility now. If anyone can offer a tutorial link, ideas, sample code, anything to help get me moving in the right direction I will greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Edit: Clarification I'm not entirely sure how to actually create the overlayed button. I tried to create a a floating div with some text in it, and nothing showed up, but I got no errors, which means I'm doing something wrong, but I have no idea what that is. http://www.fijiwebdesign.com/blog/css-tooltips-floating-html-elements.html If you take a look at that webpage you see that there is that floating "feedback" button, I would like to create something similar, only it wouldn't be anchored to the sides, but I could position it over text, etc. #floatingBtn { position: absolute; z-index: 10000; top: 50%; left: 50%; } Thats the CSS I used to try and float my div. I don't know if I'm creating the div in the wrong place or... I thought if I could get a floating div with some text, I could turn that into my button.

I can not find a horizontal-align:center attribute for the divs. How can I configure the div so that its contents are in the center?   • packaging sequences of png files in iPhone APP for animations to reduce bundle size

    Basically, I have an application that uses a flip-book style animation technique. I am simply cycling through around 1000 320x480 pngs at 12fps, and everything works really well. Except for the fact that 1000 images takes up a ton of disk space. Ideally I'd like to be able to compress these images as a movie file and pull out each frame as I need them, or simply play back a movie with frame by frame precision. Ideas?

    Hey all, Does anyone have any ideas on what could be used as a way to filter untrustworthy user submitted content? Take Yelp for instance, they would need to prevent competitors writing business reviews on their competitors. They would need to prevent business owners favourably reviewing their own business, or forcing friends/family to do so. They would need to prevent poor quality reviews from affecting a businesses rating and so on. I can't think what they might use to do this: Prevent multiple users from the same IP reviewing certain things Prevent business owners reviewing their own business (maybe even other businesses in the same categories as their own?) Somehow determine what a review is about and what the actual intentions behind it are Other than the first and second points, I can't think of any clever/easy way to filter potentially harmful reviews from being made available, other than a human doing it. Obviously for a site the size of Yelp this wouldn't be feasible, so what parameters could they take into consideration? Even with human intervention, how would anyone know it was the owners best buddy writing a fake review without knowing the people? I'm using this as an example in a larger study on the subject of filtering user content automatically. Does anyone have any ideas how these systems may work and what they take into consideration?   • Released object crashes app

    I am using objective-C++ (+Boost) for iPhone development. I am in a rather tight loop and need to allocate and release a certain object. The code is something like this. for (int i=0;i<100;i++) { opt = [[FObj alloc] init]; //do stuff with opt [opt release]; } The FObj object is something like @interface FObj MyCPPObj * cppobj; @end In the implementation of FObj there is a dealloc method: -(void) dealloc { delete cppobj; //previously allocated with 'new' [super dealloc]; } I am afraid that if i don't release then the 'MyCPPObj's will just pile up. But releasing makes the app crash after the first loop. What am I doing wrong? Or perhaps should I make cppobj and boost::shared_ptr? (do boost shared pointers automatically release their objects when an objective-C++ object is deleted?)

  • mutableCopyWithZone updating a property value.

    I have a Class that I need to copy with the ability to make changes the value of a variable on both Classes. Simply put the classes need to remain clones of each other at all times. My understanding of the documentation is that I can do this using a shallow copy of the Class which has also been declared mutable. By shallow copying the pointer value for the variable will be cloned so that it is an exact match in both classes. So when I update the variable in the original the copy will be updated simultaneously. Is this right? As you can see below I have used mutableCopyWithZone in the class I want to copy. I have tried both NSCopyObject and allocWithZone methods to get this to work. Although I'm able to copy the class and it appears as intended, when updating the variable it is not changing value in the copied Class. - (id)mutableCopyWithZone:(NSZone *)zone { //ReviewViewer *copy = NSCopyObject(self, 0, zone); ReviewViewer *copy = [[[self class] allocWithZone:zone] init]; copy->infoTextViews = [infoTextViews copy]; return copy; } infoTextViews is a property declared as nonatomic, retain in the header file of the class being copied. I have also implemented the NSMutableCopying protocol accordingly. Any help would be great.

    Within an Access 2007 application, I'm creating a static report in .pdf format. I want to create it, then export the static report (not the data itself) to a Sharepoint Document Library. The intent is for it to be a public repository, no versioning. Each report will carry a unique name. I'm a seasoned vba programmer, but using Sharepoint services is new to me. How do I go about doing this? Assume I can identify the file name and location after I've generated it, and I know the Sharepoint library URL, and have permissions. Where do I go from there?

  • titleForHeaderInSection is not updating Section Header information correctly

    I have two tableviews where one navigates to the next. Both use more or less the same code and use the managedObjectContext and FetchedResultsController design pattern to provide the relevant data for both tables. My problem happens when I navigate from the first to the second tableview and the data has only one Section Header / Row in the tableview. The data will then not update Section Header information. It does when there is more than one row but not if there is only one row. It leaves the information from the first attempt in place. I can confirm the row data is correct so the relevant data should be being passed to the Section Header correctly but it isn't. Has anyone else come across this problem?

My Question: Does Anyone Still Prefer N-Tier Architecture After Having Shipped an MVC Application? Reason for My Question: Before I shipped an MVC web application, I wasn't convinced that it was superior to N-Tier Architecture. Specifically, if better unit testing was the only obvious benefit of MVC, then I saw no reason to switch gears and adopt a new architecture. But after having shipped an MVC application, I can see many benefits (which have been enumerated on other threads).

  • How to show useful error messages from a database error callback in Phonegap?

    Using Phonegap you can set a function to be called back if the whole database transaction or the individual SQL statement errors. I'd like to know how to get more information about the error. I have one generic error-handling function, and lots of different SELECTs or INSERTs that may trigger it. How can I tell which one was at fault? It is not always obvious from the error message. I read that .code can have the following values: UNKNOWN_ERR = 0 DATABASE_ERR = 1 VERSION_ERR = 2 TOO_LARGE_ERR = 3 QUOTA_ERR = 4 SYNTAX_ERR = 5 CONSTRAINT_ERR = 6 TIMEOUT_ERR = 7 Are there any other properties/methods of the error object? What are the properties/methods of the transaction object at this point? I can't seem to find a good online reference for this. Certainly not on the Phonegap website!

  • how to customize the filter when following a stream in wireshark?

    when selecting a packet and choosing to follow the stream, wireshark automatically sets a filter that looks something like this: (ip.addr eq 10.2.3.8 and ip.addr eq 10.2.255.255) and (udp.port eq 999 and udp.port eq 899). i'd like to be able to set that myself when following the stream, but have not been able to identify where to do that. setting the display filter has no effect. in fact, after following the stream, whatever display filter is currently set will be replaced by the follow stream formatted filter. is customizing the follow stream filter even possible? thanks
