• Why do I need to republish a file when I update it?

  The story is: I am coding a program and at the same time, i want to share it with my group members using ubuntu. They don't have an Ubuntu One account and what I do is to publish the file and my friends just get the link and the file. But, strangely or not, every time I upload a new version of this file (I add more code and save it), the used link seems to be "outdated" and I need to publish the same file again and to get a new link every time i modify the same file. Couldn't it be possible to save a new version of your file and the same link just "points" to the newer version?

  The three-step JCP evolution consists of the following JSRs: • JSR 348, JCP transparency • JSR 355, Merging the two existing Executive Committees • JSR 358, complex issues moved postponed from JSR 348 The JSR 348 is already completed and JSR 355 is scheduled to be complete later this year. JSR 358 was recently filed and plans to revise several items such as modify the JSPA, Process Document, and a large number of complex issues. Because of the nature and scope of work, the Expert Group consists of representatives from all companies in the Executive Committee. • how can I make the launcher disappear after notication

  I have a generally stock configured Unity 2d, with the launcher in auto-hide mode. When I get a notification, the launcher pops out and the relevant icon wiggles. That is all functioning well. My problem is that the launcher pops out for maybe 5 seconds before hiding. Often times I'm typing or using the mouse on the portion of the display that is now covered by the launcher. After I've mentally received the notification is there some way to tell the launcher "I've seen this, you can go away now". Note, I'm not wanting to modify or shorten the default display time. I'd be very happy to hit 'alt-h' or some other key combination to make it go away.

  I was thinking about developing a sidescrolling platformer very similar to an old Mario and Luigi game for NES. To start out I was thinking about taking the images from a site like this: http://www.mariouniverse.com/sprites/nes/smb3 Which clearly states a copyright. I was wondering how far I am allowed to take these images. I figure I'm probably allowed to use it for personal development, but what if I publish the game as an exe file and send it to some friends? I figured a definite no-no would be selling the game with the copyrighted images included. A secondary question would be whether or not I would be allowed to modify them slightly and then call them my own.

  Lets say I'm using Node-Webkit, an MIT licensed app runtime. Now, let's say I decide to include a Javascript library which is GPL licensed: while I do not modify the downloaded JS file, I do write my own code making use of the library's functions. I plan to sell the final obfuscated executable and I'm wondering: what's the final license of the complete software? Do I only have to release the GPL library or does the GPL license apply for all the code I wrote? What happens to Node-Webkit's MIT license?

• Getting trayer to work with dual screen setup

  I'm using XMonad as my window manager, and want to use trayer as a icon panel for things like nm-applet. The problem was that the panel wouldn't appear on the top of the screen. If I set it to the bottom it just appeared. After a lot of trying, I found out it is because my xorg.conf is setup for dualscreens, and probably the trayer panel is spawned outside my view (I currently have only a single screen, but I switch a lot). After manualy tweaking the xorg.conf file to allow for just one screen, the panel appears on the right spot.   I'm currently working at a quite big Android project (a social network, you can see it here if is useful to answer the question). We decided to restyle the whole app, changing all the UI design. The code I actually have is complex, there are many controllers, and it's a little messy too. Is it "better" in terms of time and code cleanliness to take one controller per time, and rewrite it entirely, or to modify one controller per time? The layout change entirely anyway, so for that I know I've to restart from scratch. Maybe it could seem a stupid question, but with the "time" variable I really can't see the best way.

• Software Center won't take into account my changed OpenID name: any idea?

  Failing to install IntelliJ from the Software Center, I realized my login is wrong in the /etc/apt/auth.conf entry that the install process generates. In this file, I see my original OpenID, that's the one which got automatically generated when signing up on Launchpad. It contains my last name so I changed it. I purged conf and binaries for Ubuntu One, reinstalled, deleted all listed "Devices" from app, all "Applications" from Launchpad. Deleted ~/.cache/software-center/, reboot, but still: When installing IntelliJ, the auth.conf file receives my original OpenID, not the modified one Problem is that the commercial subscription, for IntelliJ private PPA, uses my modified OpenID, so authentication attempt fails. I can't remove nor modify this subscription, even by changing back my OpenID into Launchpad. Any idea to solve this?

  Last week, I had the opportunity to help implement and integrate a strong password policy into the legacy web application developed using ASP technology. The solution I proposed was to use jQuery to display the password strength meter to help users create strong passwords. One of my colleagues asked if we would have to modify multiple pages and files if the client decided to alter the password policy. The answer is no. Thanks to jQuery, the client-side script and code behind can share the same information. The password policy information is stored in an XML file and the client-side script and code behind are reading from this to perform the password strength validation.

• How to "undo" (revert) Ctrl+L?

  I'm on 12.04 Desktop. When browsing the file system, it's convenient to type Ctrl+L so as to get the file path "Location" to render as a string; I can then modify the file path or even paste something in and get redirected right where I want to go. But often, after typing Ctrl+L, I find myself wanting to revert back to the normal way Nautilus renders the file path (as a series of buttons/links). What's the magical shortcut to "undo" Ctrl+L and go back to "normal mode"? Thanks in advance!

• What's the best subversion client to use for a working copy on a network share that's being modified by other users without a subversion client?

  That probably sounds confusing. Here's my situation: I have a software project I'd like to version control with Subversion. The project files are on a network share which is modified by several users. I'd like to version control the directory with caveat that many of the users are not going to be using a SVN client when they add, modify, move, and rename files. I'll be doing all the version control myself along with one or two other users. When I commit the changes with an SVN client I'd assume that all changes made to file, all deletions, renames, etc are intentional. So how do I detect these changes if as user made them without using a client like TortoiseSVN? Can anyone recommend a client that could determine possible renames, deletions, and moved files?   I'm building a simple airline reservation system (web app) for a class. I'm trying to find out where to start learning about implementing and integrating a sql database. User's should be able to search for available flights based on destination and departure cities and the like. A good example would be Google Flights. I'd like to access a data base with all of the flight information and display it within tables on the web page. Admins should be able to modify the databases as well. I've tried to learn about things like Node.js, PHP, and AJAX, but most of the tutorials that I've found have been difficult to understand. Any suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks!

  Possible Duplicate: Does it make a difference if your url ends in a trailing slash or not? Why treat these as different URLs? I am doing a 301 redirect in my WP application using .htaccess and have mapped some of the URLs which have either been removed from the new domain or the URL structure has been changed. While doing I got a doubt I have following URL structure in my .htaccess file RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^old.com$ [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.old.com$ RewriteRule ^tag/waiting$ http://www.new.com/tag/relationships [R=301,L] while checking this i found that at some places URL is like http://www.new.com/tag/relationships while at others its like http://www.new.com/tag/relationships/, while both refer to the same location but not sure if this will make any difference to SEO and search engines.   On the iPhone, if you are currently in a TCP connection with a remote peer using 3G. If the user moves to a place with Wifi connectivity, does the iPhone OS automatically modify your connection to go through WiFi instead (assuming remote peer is also accessible via Wifi)? I ask because the docs point out that WiFi is preferred over 3G due to lower power consumption.

  I realized that IE8 does not allow links from cross domains to be displayed in IFrame. It seems like there are only two Header options that Microsoft allows to modify. X-FRAME-OPTIONS : "DENY" (This does not display any IFrame content ) X-FRAME-OPTIONS : "SAMEORIGIN" (Displays content from the same domain) Is there a work around to allow content from other domains to be displayed? • Hook IDispatch v-table in C++

  I'm trying to modify the behavior of an IDispatch interface already present in the system. To do this my plan was to hook into the objects v-table during runtime and modify the pointers so it points to a custom hook method instead. If I can get this to work I can add new methods and properties to already existing objects. Nice. First I tried hooking into the v-table for IUnknown (from which IDispatch inherits from) and that worked fine. However trying to change entires in IDispatch doesn't work at all. Nothing happens at all, the code works just as it did without the hook.   I am looking at Apple's 'aurioTouch' example for the iPhone and I would like to play an mp3 or wav instead of using the built in mic. I am very new to the audio portion of iPhone programming, but I think I need to modify the SetupRemoteIO(...) function and replace the AudioComponent named 'comp' with a custom AudioComponent that plays a file. Basically I want the app to function exactly the same as the original, but with an audio file as the input instead of the mic.

• Custom RoleProvider with MVC 2.0 webconfig

  I have a custom MembershipProvider and a custom RoleProvider. I created the custom MembershipProvider by creating a SimpleMembershipProvider class which implements the MembershipProvider class. After that I changed my web.config and works. So I used the same approach creating a custom RoleProvider. Nothing special, just creating a SimpleRoleProvider class which implements the RoleProvider class.
