• Automated browsing with javascript?

  I'm trying to do some browser automation, but I'm having some problems. Basically, what I'd like to do is load a set pages, set some forms options, click a button and view the results for each page that I open. Originally, I tried to do this by placing the pages I wanted to automate in iframes and then using javascript to drive the interactions I want in each, but that results in a Permissions Error, since the sites I want to automate are not on my server. Is there any way around this? The other possibility I've thought of is to use QT's webkit class and the evaluateJavaScript method to accomplish what I'd like to do, but this seems a bit more heavy weight for something that is, conceptually, pretty simple.

  According to this post on Daring Fireball a new iPhone SDK Agreement release in conjunction with the iPhone OS 4.0 announcement today specifically bans any iPhone application not implemented in C, C++ Objective-C or JavaScript. The clear impact here is to the wide array of programs written in languages other than those. Is that your reading of the clause in the new agreement as well? Update: Here is the clause as printed on Daring Fireball: 3.3.1 — Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).

• Setting up Android application for Analytics and tracking

  Tracking events and setting up Analytics for Websites seems easy. You create an account with one of the Analytics service providers like Google. They give you javascript code that you embed in your pages (whichever event you wish to track) and voila..you're done. I have written a native application for Android phones, which is actually an adaptation of the actual web site. Now, I am required to setup Analytics and tracking for this native application. Question: How to do setup a native application for Analytics? We have Java Script code(not Google Analytics but for some other engine) that works for the original web site. Is there a way to incorporate that in the native application? I know Android supports Java Script via WebViews(Webkit);my application does not have webviews, it is native! I have not worked on JavaScript since school so excuse me if I sound naive. Thanks.

• position:fixed on element in ie7/8 and problems with the scrolling of the content inside it

  I got an element fixed in the center of the screen, having specific dimensions (let's say 500x500). The element has content, which is larger then the height of the element and thus causes scroll bar to appear, which is fine. In FF/WebKit everything works nice. However in IE 7/8 ... content of the fixed element doesn't scroll, or scrolls with HUGE delay. If I change position:fixed to position:absolute, it starts to scroll fine, but with position:fixed... it's just a pain!.. Is it some known issue? Anyone heard/encountered something like that? Any ideas how to deal with such?...

• Html + Css: How to create a auto-resizing rotated background?

  Hi, image a complete black web page. On this web page is a 100% size white div that fills the whole page. I'd like to rotate this div by -7 degrees (or 7 degrees counter-clock wise). This will result in the black background being visible in triangles on the edges, just like you had placed a piece of paper on a desk and turned it a bit to the left. Actually this can be done with some css and it's working quite well (except for IE). The real problem now is: I'd like to have a normal, non-rotated div element on top of that to display the content in, so that only the background is rotated. Rotating a contained div counterwise doesn't work though, because through the two transformations the text will be blurry in all browsers. How can I realize that? Best would be a solution workiing in current Webkit browsers, FF3.5+ and IE7+. If only IE8+ I could live with that too.

  I'm currently looking for some libraries which might help me during iPhone Development using Appcelerator Titanium. I've heard that since version 1.0 it isn't dependant on webkit anymore and it makes app-development more exiting of course, please correct me if i'm wrong. As many people out there i love Javascript Frameworks such as JQuery and Mootools much, but they were build specifically to do a great job within a browser and most of the functionality is not needed within the environment Titanium now provides (DOM-Manipulation etc). Is there any other small library of useful functions i can use for development? Thx in advance.

• Format table header

  I have a table with slanted text in the header row, the only problem is that the text still makes the width of the columns way to large. Is there any way to squish together the table columns so that they are about the width of the select boxes? Or is there a way to place the text there without it in the header and maybe just use a <div> or <p>? • Equivalent to produce field glow in other browsers?

  I was long using this to add a glow to focused fields, I accessed my page from Firefox for the first time and realized it doesn't work on it, and most likely not on explorer either. border: 1px solid #E68D29; outline-color: -webkit-focus-ring-color; outline-offset: -2px; outline-style: auto; outline-width: 5px; I had copy pasted it from another page so I'm not quite sure how it works. What is the equivalent for Firefox or Explorer? I mean how do I make a similar glow in other browsers? Thanks

• SQL Server Configuration Scripting Utility Release 9

  There’s another update to my little utility to script a SQL Server’s configuration.  I use this for two purposes.  First, I use it to keep my database mirroring servers up to date.  Second, I capture the output in a version control system and keep that for historical reference. In release 3.0.9 I made the following changes: Rewrote the encrypted trigger scripting.  It will now list the encrypted triggers in a comment in the table script but can’t actually script them. It now scripts any server event notifications. You can script a single database using the /scriptdb flag.  Please note that it will also script the instance and system databases when it does this. It will script any user-defined endpoints.  This will capture your mirroring endpoints and more importantly any service broker endpoints. It will gracefully skip database mail on the Express Edition. It still doesn’t support SQL Server 2012.  I think that’s the next feature to add though.

• How to leverage the internal HTTP endpoint available on Azure web roles?

  Imagine you have a Web application using an in-memory collection that changes occasionally, loading it from storage on the Application_Start global.asax event and updating it whenever it changes. If you want to deploy this application on Azure you need to keep in mind that more than one instance of the application can be running at any time and therefore you need to provide some mechanism to keep all instances informed with the latest changes. Because that the communication through internal endpoints between Azure role instances is at no cost, a good solution can be maintaining the information on Azure Storage Tables, reading its contents on the Application_Start event and populating its changes to all instances using the internal HTTP port available on Azure Web Roles. You need to follow these steps to leverage the internal HTTP endpoint available on Azure web roles: 1.   Define an internal HTTP endpoint in the Web Role properties, for example InternalHttpEndpoint   2.   Add a new WCF service to the Web Role, for example NotificationServices.svc 3.   Add a method on the new service to receive notifications from other role instances. 4.   Declare a class that inherits from System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHostFactory and override the method CreateServiceHost to host the internal endpoint.   Note that you can use SecurityMode.None because the internal endpoint is private to the instances of the service, this is provided by the platform. 5.   Edit the markup of the service right clicking the svc file and selecting "View markup" to add the new factory as the factory to be used to create the service    6. Now you can notify changes to other instances using this code:

• How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

  Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded.   I'm having problem loading a json resource from a local rails app with jQuery 1.4.4 The json is valid (based on jsonlint.com) and I can download it properly if I'm requesting it from other sources. • Border-radius bug on <a> in IE9

  Seeing that <div> elements render border/border-radius correctly, but any <a> or <button> that has a background, border and border-radius set shows the background color or image as a square, and only the border is round. Tried setting <a> & <button> to display: block or display: inline-block but that didn't work. Is there a known workaround? You can also add another line comment directly from the discussion area, rather than navigating to the code diff viewer. • How can I read out the CSS text via Javascript as defined in the stylesheet?

  I was thinking of using Javascript to automatically transform CSS3 attributes like border-radius, transform, box-shadow, etc. to their browser specific counterparts. I did some research and found that you can iterate over the stylesheets defined via document.styleSheets. You can find the CSS rules via document.styleSheets[0].cssRules[0].cssText. I want to modify the CSS rules that contain CSS3 attributes by injecting the browser specific attributes with the appropriate vendor-prefix, like -webkit-border-radius, moz-border-radius, etc. However, it seems that the cssText property is preprocessed in each browser, to filter out CSS attributes that it doesn't understand. That practically breaks this idea. Question: is there any way to retrieve the CSS text exactly as defined in the stylesheet? Or: is there another way to accomplish this via Javascript? I'd like to maintain clean CSS files without the need for defining each attribute multiple times for each specific browser.

• Layout of popup components changes while moving

  I have designed some popup moving menu with JQuery, it looks perfekt in webkit browsers, but i have one problem in mozilla, when i move my popup window, layout of some components in this window changes! • Problem with Firefox, javascript, and Canvas

  I'm having a Firefox-specific issue with a script I wrote to create 3d layouts. The correct behavior is that the script pulls the background-color from an element and then uses that color to draw on the canvas. When a user mouses over a link and the background-color changes to the :hover rule, the color being drawn changes on the canvas changes as well. When the user mouses out, the color should revert back to non-hover color. This works as expected in Webkit browsers and Opera, but Firefox chokes on it if mouseout is triggered and no mouseover event follows it. • Does submit() function has a callback?

  Hi, I have this code: setMyCookie('name','value_1'); $('.myform').submit(); setMyCookie('name','value_2'); Problem: Webkit browsers seem to update 'MyCookie' with 'value_2' before the form gets submited, or in the exact moment it is being submited, so wrong cookie value is sent with it. I want to change cookie value to 'value_2' immediately after the form is submited so the cookie is ready for another request. The following code works fine, but I don't think using timeout() is the best solution. Maybe there is another way to solve this problem? setMyCookie('name','value_1'); $('.myform').submit(); setTimeout(function(){setMyCookie('name',value_2);},100); Thanks.
