• Android game development in c++

  So being a primarily c/c++ developer, I've always thought that the only option for mobile game development for me was using iOS, which allows for c/c++ (and minimising objective C). I heard from a friend though, that android has a native development toolkit which allows for c++ code to work on android. Has anyone used this, and if so, how do you find it? I mean, will it "just work" like iOS, or are there more considerations that need to be taken care of due to the wide variety of android devices available?

• mysql_close(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I've got a db.php file that does all the db manipulation. It has 2 static methods, connect and deconnect. In my other file i simply use db::connect() and db::deconnect(). The mysql_close($con) in the deconnect method just doesn't know who $con is. Since I don't want to instantiate my class static is the only way to go. Declaring 'private $con' in class db doesn't seem to have an effect.   it seems like #frmToDo still posts backs <form id="frmToDo" name="frmToDo"> ... <a id="btnSubmit" href="javascript:document.frmToDo.submit();">Add</a> google.load("jquery", 1); google.load("jqueryui", 1); google.setOnLoadCallback(function() { ... $("#frmToDo").submit(function() { return false; ... why will this happen? might it be because of href="javascript:document.frmToDo.submit(). how can i submit the form with that link (i didnt use <input type="submit" /> because of styling problems, it seems like buttons are harder to style, esp in different browsers) the AJAX way?

• Find out monitor make / model

  My friend has recently bought a second-hand vehicle with an in-car computer and it's wired up to a touchscreen monitor on the dashboard (very impressive!). Now, I've helped him install Ubuntu on it today but we can't establish the make and model of the connected touchscreen monitor to try and source the drivers to make the touchscreen function work. Are there any Linux commands to work out the make / model of an attached monitor? I've tried Google which pointed me towards the /etc/X11 directory but have had no joy with that.

• Can a flex app (or a portion of a flex app) be made transparent to mouse clicks?

  I need to superimpose my Flex app above a plain HTML control on a web page, and be able to click through the Flex app to interact with the HTML control. Is there any way to do this? No permutation of mouseEnabled="false" or mouseChildren="false" seems to have the desired effect. Context: trying to integrate Google Earth API (JavaScript/HTML) with my flex app. I am leaving a portion of the flex app transparent and empty, and positioning the Google Earth widget just below that point in the z-index. Google Earth has to be behind flex, because there are some Flex controls periodically displayed in that space.

• C#: reflection alternative for switch on enum in order to select namespace/class

  Hi, I have an interface named IHarvester. There are 3 implementations of that interface, each under their own namespace: Google Yahoo Bing A HarvesterManager uses the given harvester. It knows the interface and all 3 implementations. I want some way of letting the class user say in which harvester it wants to use. And in the code select that implementation, without a switch-case implementation. Can reflection save my day?   We rely a lot on colour within our code within our team to outline features that need working on and what needs attention, we we think can be improved (we mainly colour the line of the code) for the application we're developing, however we have a close friend that is colourblind and he wants to join our team despite our heavily reliance on colour.   I recently attended a talk about GNU Telephony. I was informed that Twinkle supports ZRTP for encrypted SIP calls. I went into Edit User Profile Security and made sure that ZRTP was enables and that all boxes were checked. I asked a friend to do the same and then we called each other. There is no immediate indication that I can see that the call is secure. How can I tell if ZRTP is enabled in a Twinkle SIP call?

• iPhone - Image overlay MapKit framework?

  I can see with iOS4 you can now tile an image on google maps (Been looking at the TileMap example from apple). This is great as this is what I want to do, but from what I can see I need to know the GEO reference of the image so I can raster the images with the appropriate zoom levels, etc. What I have is an artist image, which is a map of a specific area and I want to overlay this image on google maps. Am I missing something here, but can this be done with a none standard map and having different zoom levels? The main reason why I need to use google maps is because of the GPS functionality, so the user will know where they currently are on the map.

  I'm writing an interposition library to track the usage of some library functions in libc, such as open(), close(), connect(), etc. It works generally well on most of the applications. However, when I try it with PHP, using PHP's MySQL module in particular, none of the function calls to libc inside this module is been tracked (so no connect(), no socket(), etc.). 'strace' told me that the system calls socket(), connect(), etc., took place. Running 'file' on the module and libmysqlclient.so.16.0.0 said that they are all dynamically linked. So it shouldn't be a problem caused by static linkage. What might be the problem? I'm using Fedora 11 64-bit version. Thank you.

• How to check for an active Internet Connection on iPhone SDK?

  I would like to check to see if I have an Internet connection on the iPhone using the Cocoa Touch libraries. I came up with a way to do this using an NSUrl. The way I did it seems a bit unreliable (because even Google could one day be down and relying on a 3rd party seems bad) and while I could check to see for a response from some other websites if Google didn't respond, it does seem wasteful and an unnecessary overhead on my application. - (BOOL) connectedToInternet { NSString *URLString = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.com"]]; return ( URLString != NULL ) ?   Is it possible to create an application for Android, which can generate a video signal (HDMI or VGA) via USB? Any Android device has miniUSB port. Theoretically it's possible to create a small commutator device on microcontroller or microscheme, which will be a USB-host for Android device. You'll connect Android device with commutator and then connect commutator with monitor. For example, the scheme looks like: Android phone - commutator (USB-host) - TV/Monitor. Summary, I need to connect android phone with TV via miniUSB port. I found soft which can use miniUSB - HDMI cable, but those apps only for Motorolla Droid and HTC Evo. I'll glad to get links to existing apps or projects on that theme, to info about software generation HDMI-signal and connecting Android devices with another devices.   I would like to implement enemy movement on a X-Y grid. Would it be a good idea to have a predefined table with an initial X-Y position and a predefined "surveillance path"? Each enemy will follow its path until it detects a player, at this point it will start chasing it using a chasing algorithm.   We have a thread program that sends bulk mail. The information like 1. To 2. Subject Etc., are fetched from database, mail is composed and pushed to SMTP server. One of our customer sent a bulk mail with 2390 email. • genome-panel top deleted accidentally ubuntu 13.04

  One of my friend accidentally deleted gnome-panel top panel. First I tried to restore using gnome-panel --replace but did not succeeded then I re-install gnome-panel after a clean uninstall but results are same. He is using Ubuntu 13.04 (Gnome Classic fallback (No effects)). I saw few old solutions for similar problems, mostly for 10.04, but those stuffs are of no help. I want to get back the whole panel as it was with all icons and indicators.

• Verizon Fivespot firewall exceptions

  I have a Verizon Fivespot Wi-Fi router and am having issues connecting to the computer that uses it to get on the internet. I am able to connect to the Fivespot admin pages remotely and I am able to connect to the internet from the computer behind the Fivespot. I've tried asking this on superuser but have gotten nothing, I figure this is pertinent to programmers working on remote computers as well. There are two sections pertinent to this issue, Port Filtering And, Port Forwarding I've tried each individually and both together but cannot access anything through the router except for the admin page. I am trying to connect through SSH on Port 22 to an Ubuntu 10.04 box over wifi. I have called Verizon Tech Support but they were unhelpful, the person essentially read what it says on each screen without any elaboration. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  hi, I made a swf that interacts with other site on the internet (which has a crossdomainfile for me). in the main.mxml there is a definition of webservice (mx:WebService)(which is not in my domain). Therefore when loading the swf, there is a first call to crossdomainfile.xml. I put this swf on my server so that my clients can get it. When i connect to my server to download the swf, i expect to be asked if i want to allow the swf connect to foreign webservice domain. But i am not being asked. Do i always need to define exception in Global Security Settings panel? I don't want my client do define special things.. Is there a best practice for that? Why when i surfing the net other swf can do this? I read about the FlashPlayerTrust, can i define there a website i trust my swf will connect to? anyone knows?
