• Tutorial for Quick Look Generator for Mac

  I've checked out Apple's Quick Look Programming Guide: Introduction to Quick Look page in the Mac Dev Center, but as a more of a science programmer rather than an Apple programmer, it is a little over my head (but I could get through it in a weekend if I bash my head against it long enough). Does anyone know of a good basic Quick Look Generators tutorial that is simple enough for someone with only very modest experience with Xcode? For those that are curious, I have a filetype called .evt that has an xml header and then binary info after the header. I'm trying to write a generator to display the xml header. There's no application bundle that it belongs to. Thanks!

• ASP.NET MVC unit test controller with HttpContext

  I am trying to write a unit test for my one controller to verify if a view was returned properly, but this controller has a basecontroller that accesses the HttpContext.Current.Session. Everytime I create a new instance of my controller is calls the basecontroller constructor and the test fails with a null pointer exception on the HttpContext.Current.Session.   I'm trying to write an app that uses rounded corners for framing the app. I've found a package on google code that has a RoundedLinePanel and it seems to work... kind of. I'm wondering a few things. Is this what people are using for creating divs with round corners in GWT? The release notes say it hasn't changed in almost a year. Also, I can't seem to set a fixed height of this div (setHeight sets it on the wrapper div, not the inner one). so it's not useful to me as I have a fixed height app. Finally, if anyone can suggest a better mechanism for creating rounded corner divs in GWT I'm all ears.

  So, with HTML5 giving us local SQL databases on the client side, if you want to write a select or insert, you no longer have the ability to sanitize third party input by saying $buddski = mysql_real_escape_string($tuddski) because the PHP parser and MySQL bridge are far away. It's a whole new world of SQLite where you compose your queries and parse your results with JavaScript. But while you may not have your whole site's database go down, the user who gets his/her database corrupted or wiped due to a malicious injection attack is going to be rather upset. So, what's the best way, in pure JavaScript, to escape/sanitize your inputs so they will not wreak havoc with your user's built-in database? Scriptlets? specifications? Anyone?

  Ok i'm currently using LuaScript v5.1 in a Game engine i'm using. and the handy LuaInterface that comes along with it. i've tested it on a range of systems running a range of OS's. LuaInterface seems to fail on 64bit Operating Systems. Could anyone point me to a 64bit Compiled LuaInterface.dll, or is there any alternative to the LuaInterface that can be used, because LuaInterface is extremely useful and i dont think i would be able to write a more extensive interface by myself using lua51. (I'm not that good, sadly) Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys!

Is this even possible? I've tried a few regex's and failed miserably (am still experimenting but finding myself spending way too much time learning it)

• Is preg_match safe enaught in input satinization?

  Im building a new web-app, LAMP environment... im wondering if preg_match can be trusted for user's input validation (+ prepared stmt, of course) for all the text-based fields (aka not html fields; phone, name, surname, etc..). For example, for a classic 'email field', if i check the input like: $email_pattern = "/^([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)@((\[[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.)" . "|(([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+\.)+))([a-zA-Z]{2,4}" . • I never really understood: what is CGI?

  CGI is a Comman Gateway Interface. As the name says, it is a "common" gateway interface for everything. It is so trivial and naive from the name. I feel that I understood this and I felt this every time I encountered this word. But frankly, I didn't. I'm still confused. I am a PHP programmer. I did lot of web development. user (client) request for page --- webserver(-embedded PHP interpreter) ---- Server side(PHP) Script --- MySQL Server. Now say my PHP Script can fetch results from MySQL Server && MATLAB Server && Some other server. So, now PHP Script is the CGI? because its interface for the between webserver & All other servers? I don't know. Sometimes they call CGI, a technology & othertimes they call CGI a program or someother server. What exactly is CGI? Whats the big deal with /cgi-bin/*.cgi? Whats up with this? I don't know what is this cgi-bin directory on the server for. I don't know why they have *.cgi extensions. Why does Perl always comes in the way. CGI & Perl (language). I also don't know whats up with these two. Almost all the time I keep hearing these two in combination "CGI & Perl". This book is another great example CGI Programming with Perl Why not "CGI Programming with PHP/JSP/ASP". I never saw such things. CGI Programming in C this confuses me a lot. in C?? Seriously?? I don't know what to say. I"m just confused. "in C"?? This changes everything. Program needs to be compiled and executed. This entirely changes my view of web programming. When do I compile? How does the program gets executed (because it will be a machine code, so it must execute as a independent process). How does it communicate with the web server? IPC? and interfacing with all the servers (in my example MATLAB & MySQL) using socket programming? I'm lost!! They say that CGI is depreciated. Its no more in use. Is it so? What is its latest update? Once, I ran into a situation where I had to give HTTP PUT request access to web server (Apache HTTPD). Its a long back. So, as far as I remember this is what I did: Edited the configuration file of Apache HTTPD to tell webserver to pass all HTTP PUT requests to some put.php ( I had to write this PHP script) Implement put.php to handle the request (save the file to the location mentioned) People said that I wrote a CGI Script. Seriously, I didn't have clue what they were talking about. Did I really write CGI Script? I hope you understood what my confusion is. (Because I myself don't know where I'm confused). I request you guys to keep your answer as simple as possible. I really can't understand any fancy technical terminology. At least not in this case. EDIT: I found this amazing tutorial "CGI Programming Is Simple!" - CGI Tutorial Which explains the concepts in simplest possible way. I've only have one complaint about this tutorial. Just to make what ever he explained complete he should have shown the C code he used for generating response for those GET / POST requests.   Hi there, I'm considering writing a custom IPermission implementation but am not clear as to how it should work. I've already implemented IPrincipal and IIdentity. What I would like to accomplish is to be able to check permissions vis a vis the current IPrincipal's authorizations rather than its roles. Generally, authorizations are read/add-delete/update/none for a given type. So I would like to write something like this: [CustomPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Type = typeof(Foo), MinimumAuthorization = AuthorizationFlags.Read)] public void SomeMethod(){} Is this possible? I've looked over the code at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.ipermission.aspx. This shows how to implement the interface, but I don't understand how the above pseudo-code would be able to check against the IPrincipal's authorizations for the type.   I'm following a tutorial in "More iPhone 3 Development. In the code, they have a line: NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext = appDelegate.managedObjectContext; I get an error: "accessing unknown 'managedObjectContext' getter method" on that line. I've downloaded his sample code and his program runs fine with that line of code. I've tried rewriting the code and I've even copied and pasted his code into my program, but I still get the error. I am using the newest SDK, and I'm wondering if something might have changed so this getter method doesn't work anymore, but I do not get any warning about deprecation. I was recently working with a DateTime object, and wrote something like this: DateTime dt = DateTime.Now; dt.AddDays(1); return dt; // still today's date! WTF? The intellisense documentation for AddDays says it adds a day to the date, which it doesn't - it actually returns a date with a day added to it, so you have to write it like: DateTime dt = DateTime.Now; dt = dt.AddDays(1); return dt; // tomorrow's date This one has bitten me a number of times before, so I thought it would be useful to catalog the worst C# gotchas.

• How to parse AMF data in Ruby?

  So I see that there are a few Rails plugins for serving AMF. However, is there a library that I can use in a Ruby environment to act as an AMF client: to read AMF data, and deserialize it into a Ruby object? If not, how could I best go about using tools built in other languages? I suppose I could write something in Python or Java or whatever, and call it from Ruby directly via backticks... but I'd first like to ensure that there isn't really any better option. Thanks!

  I have built an MVC php application and was wondering, if instead of having to write out a large amount of html and set the data, could I not just have all this html (with some php) in a separate file and just require it? For example: $test = '<div> Test content <div>More content</div> </div>'; $APP->Template->setData('test', $test, FALSE); Instead could I not just use: $test = require("includes/content.php"); $APP->Template->setData('test', $test, FALSE); Would this be considered as bad practise? It just seems that by requiring files, it can shorten the length of controllers. Would be good to get anybodies advice on this matter.

  Let's say I have array of bytes: byte[] arr = new byte[] { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 }; Does platform has functions that I can use to play with this array - for example, how to invert it (get 4,3,2,1,0)? Or, how to invert part of it (2,1,0,3,4)? Get part of array (0,1,2,3)? I know I can manually write functions but I am curious if I'm missing useful util functions in platform that I should know about (and couldn't find any useful guide using google). Thanks!

  I'm using JSON.org APIs for Java to use JSON in my JSP webapp, I know JSONObject doesn't preserve order of elements the way they are put into it and one has to use JSONArray for that but I don't know how to use it since I need to send key and value both as received from the database, and here I'm sending data to jQuery via JSON where I need the order of data to be maintained. Following is my servlet code, where I'm getting results from the database using ORDER BY and hence I want the order to be exact as returned from the database. Also this JSON object requested using $.post method of jQuery and is used to populate dropdown on reciever page.   I have problem organizing my unittest based class test for family of tests. For example assume I implement a "dictionary" interface, and have 5 different implementations want to testing. I do write one test class that tests a dictionary interface. But how can I nicely reuse it to test my all classes? So far I do ugly: DictType = hashtable.HashDict In top of file and then use DictType in test class. To test another class I manually change the DictType to something else. How can do this otherwise? Can't pass arguments to unittest classes so is there a nicer way?
