• Deleting ASP.NET application subdirectories causes application recycle!

  This may not be news to most people, but was definitely a shock to me!   In the .NET 2.x framework a "feature" was implemented where by an ASP.NET application is automatically recycled if any subdirectory is deleted. This was apparently implemented to prevent stale content from appearing on a site.   The unfortunate side effect of this "feature" is that when using the "InProc" model for session management, all session data is lost if a subdirectory is deleted.   For those who progammatically may be adding/deleting directories within their application as inherent functionality, this causes a rather large problem.   The solution? Create your folder(s) which may be programmatically deleted outside of the root folder for the application. Alernatively, utilize a file based structure vs. folders since deleting files does not result in the same issue.

  I hope this is the correct stackexchange to post on. Seems to most relevant. I'm looking for more ways to monetize my site. I'm already using the usual Google Adsense, tradedoublers, ad networks, etc. What I want to know, is if anyone knows of a service/network out there (similar to tradedoubler), which allows you to accept (or bid) on campaigns (primarily CPM based). For example: I log in, I get a list of advertising campaigns that are available and the prices they are willing to pay or I can put a bid in with imp count and cpm rate. • Where can I find affordable legal advice for game software related inquiries?

  I am working on simulation middleware which is applicable for game engine implementations. What I would like to do is to make it freely available for use for all non-commercial purposes, while at the same time imposing some percentage of royalty on revenue (above a certain threshold) that is derived from my work. Something very similar to Epic's UDK licensing model. To facilitate the use of my software, I plan to offer binaries (static libs) for several platforms, as well as obfuscated source code which I will freely distribute, in addition to documentation of the API. I simply want to impose the restriction that if you try to make money from it, I get a cut eventually. I'm wondering if there are online forums and such where I am likely to find people who are willing to assist me in terms of learning what sort of things I have to do to get things down on the right kinds of documents. So far a site like this seems to be the most promising.

• Will these type of 403 errors affect my ranking?

  Let's say I have a directory that has a 403 forbidden error for all of the content in it, however a few of the images in the subdirectoies of the main diretory do NOT have a 403 forbidden error. Will this fact affect my ranking? For example: test.com/system/ (HAS 403 ERROR FOR ALL FILES) - test.com/system/pie/ (HAS 403 ERROR FOR ALL FILES) - test.com/system/pie/image.png (DOES NOT HAVE A 403 ERROR, AND THIS IMAGE IS EMBEDED ON A PAGE ON test.com e.g(test.com/pie/)) This sort of pattern repeats for about 10 different images. This directory is like a secret "system", however all of the content on the main site (test.com) is still accessible to everyone from the public.

• Cannot execute binary file

  I am new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to install Popcorn Time. I downloaded 32 bit version and tried to install it but that's where the problem started showing. I duble clicked the executable file and well, nothing happened. It's a official download from their web-site but it doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.....Anyway, I found out that you can insatll it from a script, but people keep talking in ubuntu terms and I don't understand it, so I have a few questions: 1.How to make a script? (witch I'm suppose to run in terminal using bash comand), 2.Is it normal that i cannot run the installer, and if that is an installer or just files for the program. 3.If it is an installer, how do I make it work? 4.What does " Cannot execute binary file" mean? Thank you in advance, hope I'm not asking too many questions(please understand that I'm new to ubuntu) and sorry about my English. xD

I think may be possible (although only A/B testing is available via the GA UI): https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/platform/features/experiments#serving-framework EXTERNAL – You will choose variations, handle experiment optimization, and only report the chosen variation to Google Analytics. For example, this should be used by 3rd-party optimization platforms that want to integrate with Google Analytics for reporting purposes. In this case, the Google Analytics statistical engine will not run. However how do I configure this and push the data to GA in my page?

  Does anybody have suggestions on creating a flowchart representation of a REST-style web interface? In the interest of supplying thorough documentation to co-developers, I've been toying around in dia modeling the interface for modifying and generating a product resource: This particular system begins to act differently with user authentication/resource counts, so before I make modifications, I'm looking for some clarification: Complexity: how would you simplify the overall structure to make this easier to read? Display Symbol: is this appropriate for representing a page? Manual Operation Symbol: is this appropriate for representing a user action like a button click? • MediaWiki: how to make DISPLAYTITLE be used in categories listings

  The problem: a MediaWiki-driven site uses subpages to build pages hierarchy. When I add something like Page1/Page2/Subpage the exactly above string appears in listings and looks clumsy. I can't efficiently use short subpage title (Subpage in this example), since it can appear in different contexts and could confuse users. I can use DISPLAYTITLE magic word, with proper values of $wgRestrictDisplayTitle and $wgAllowDisplayTitle, to reassign page title and make it show on the page. However, when I look into categories listing this page, I will still see "Page1/Page2/Subpage" instead of the title assigned. Is there a simple way (through 'hack' or via relevant extension) to make the new title appear in every listing as well?

• What is the name for landing pages that are one long page?

  Really don't see them much anymore, but here's an example of what I mean: From comments: These are "high pressure" sales pages, design to overload the user with information, sell them on the belief that what they're buying is what they need, normally have a lot of testimonials, highlighted text, etc. The pages I'm talking about are not user friendly, they're aggressive sales pitches designed to target users wanting to belief the webpage they just landed on will solve there problems for an "affordable" price. Here's an example: www_landingpagecashmachine_com (remove the underscores, since I'm attempting to avoid linking to a site like that...) Bonus points: if you're able to tell me the name of the guy/company that popularized these types of pages; recall hearing about his company years ago, after he died in a crash while racing on a track with his Ferrari club on the west coast of the US. (Update: Appears Corey Rudl was the guy's name, and his company was called "The Internet Marketing Center." Even with that info, I've still been unable to find the name for these type of pages.)

  The last few months I have been spending a lot of time designing (and help design) the developer experience for the areas I contribute to (in future versions of Visual Studio). As a technical person who defines feature sets, it is easy to get engulfed in the pure technical side of things and ignore the details that ultimately make users "love" using the product to achieve their goal, instead of just "having to use" it. Engaging in UX design helps me escape that trap. In case you are also interested in the UX side of development, I thought I'd share an interesting site I came across: UX myths.   One of the first models I created for the many-to-many revolution white paper was the Survey one. At the time, it was in Analysis Services Multidimensional, and then we implemented it in Analysis Services Tabular and in Power Pivot, using the DAX language. I recently reviewed the data model and published it in the Survey article on DAX Patterns site. The Survey pattern is the foundation for others, such as the Basket Analysis, and it is widely used in many different business scenario. I was particularly happy to know it has been using to perform data analysis for cancer research! In this article I did some maintenance on the DAX formulas, checking that the proper error handling is part of the formulas, and highlighting some differences in slicers behavior between Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, which could be particularly important for the Survey scenario. As usual, we provide sample workbooks for both Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, and we use DAX Formatter to make the DAX code easier to read. Any feedback will be appreciated!

• 301 Redirects for regional variants of a homepage

  I am planning on implementing a website which has regional homepage variants. For Example: mycompany.com/europe mycompany.com/us The rest of the site is region agnostic and content will continue such as: mycompany.com/news mycompany.com/about-us etc For homepage (.com) requests, I plan on redirecting users to the correct homepage variant (via 301). If I cannot determine the correct one, I will fallback to redirecting them to the US homepage (/us). From an SEO point of view, firstly is this ok? or should I be doing anything additional to this for making search engines aware of the regional differences? As crawlers are region agnostic, I plan on directing them to the US page with a 301, or should I have something on the .com page which they use? Being that the regional homepage's will likely be the most visited pages, they should show up in result sitelinks when searching for mycompany (which I think is a good thing). Apologies for the slightly open question - I know anything SEO related is more opinion/best practice than fact but am purely looking for advice.

I am an Engineering student who knows Python, C and familiar with Java(learning now; good at fundamentals) & HTML. Now, I want to develop facebook & Android apps. I went through their respective documentations but couldn't really understand and thought to search for beginner books but they have been written from too basic. (There is an beginner's android book for from APress for people who have no idea of programming). My problem is, I am unable to find the right book to learn. Either they are for beginners or for experts... For guys like me, can anyone point out a good book?

• Why the amount of 'indexed' images can go down?

  I have a site with several thousand of images. All those images included into the sitemap submitted to Google Webmaster Tools. The amount of 'submitted' images is OK, but the amount of 'indexed' is significantly lower than the amount of 'submitted' and it is going DOWN! I'd understand if not all of my images got indexed (however it is also not clear and very frustrating for me) but I can not understand how the indexing can go in the negative direction?! All the images stays on their places. And pages containing them stays unchanged. At least they intended to be. Any thoughts?

• Jquery Carousel - Need A Script Hack to Customize

  I hope someone can help me out here. I am coding a site for a client using the carouFredsel. I am using this because it allows for variable widths with in the slideshow as seen here: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index-old.html. My problems are as follows: to use the built in auto center script the scrolling changes the white space in between images during the transition to fit the width of the wrapper. I need a hack to keep the white space during transition the same, like this: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index.html.
