The website operator wants to minimize the time spent between publication and indexing. Consider the site http://www.example.com/ with hundreds of thousands of pages. The page page http://www.example.com/something/important-page.html is created at say 12:00. How do I get important-page.html indexed as soon as possible after 12:00? Ideally within seconds or minutes. Or more generally: What options are available to try to get Google to index a specific newly created page as soon as possible?

I am an Engineering student who knows Python, C and familiar with Java(learning now; good at fundamentals) & HTML. Now, I want to develop facebook & Android apps. I went through their respective documentations but couldn't really understand and thought to search for beginner books but they have been written from too basic. (There is an beginner's android book for from APress for people who have no idea of programming). My problem is, I am unable to find the right book to learn. Either they are for beginners or for experts... For guys like me, can anyone point out a good book?

• Penny auction concept and how the timer works

  I am creating a penny auction site using PHP yii framework. The main consideration of the system is to update the database records of all active auctions (max 15 auctions) with the current ticker timer. I am seeking for advice on how i should design the system where every auction item will have a its own countdown timer stored in the database and when someone bids the auction item, the counter resets to 2 min. Every users who are connected to the system should see the same countdown timer for that particular auction. I am little confused on how i should design the system. Will there be a performance issue when there are frequent updates to the database (Mysql) where 15 active auctions are updated every seconds, the countdown timer decreases by a second in the database table for the particular auction. Schema Sample for auction_lots: Auction_id,startdatetime,counter_timer,status I am seeking for advice on how I should design this. Please help. Thank you!

• Where can I find affordable legal advice for game software related inquiries?

  I am working on simulation middleware which is applicable for game engine implementations. What I would like to do is to make it freely available for use for all non-commercial purposes, while at the same time imposing some percentage of royalty on revenue (above a certain threshold) that is derived from my work. Something very similar to Epic's UDK licensing model. To facilitate the use of my software, I plan to offer binaries (static libs) for several platforms, as well as obfuscated source code which I will freely distribute, in addition to documentation of the API. I simply want to impose the restriction that if you try to make money from it, I get a cut eventually. I'm wondering if there are online forums and such where I am likely to find people who are willing to assist me in terms of learning what sort of things I have to do to get things down on the right kinds of documents. So far a site like this seems to be the most promising.

  Does anybody have suggestions on creating a flowchart representation of a REST-style web interface? In the interest of supplying thorough documentation to co-developers, I've been toying around in dia modeling the interface for modifying and generating a product resource: This particular system begins to act differently with user authentication/resource counts, so before I make modifications, I'm looking for some clarification: Complexity: how would you simplify the overall structure to make this easier to read? Display Symbol: is this appropriate for representing a page? Manual Operation Symbol: is this appropriate for representing a user action like a button click?   I am interested in developing an online email service (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, but on a much smaller scale) allowing people to sign up for free email addresses on my domain. The domain in question is already purchased, but I have no idea how to even start. I was hoping to code this using a Ruby framework such as Rails or Sinatra. Firstly, are there any libraries/pre-made solutions to this problem that exist already that would be easy enough to just plug-in to my own site? Secondly, if there are no real pre-made solutions, what are the general steps I need to take to accomplish this task?

• Setting coding priorities

  Hi, In the dev shops I've worked in, nobody has ever mentioned "coding priorities". I read this in a book or site somewhere, and sets the expectation of what priority should be first in the code. In places where this is not specified, what should the first priority be? It may sound simple to say "do what the business need requires", but that could be at the expense of performance/maintainability. Many people say maintainability first, regardless, some say fulfill the need regardless. I am a young developer, so I am probably missing the point somewhere. Of course, programming is engineering and tough because you can never have the perfect solution. Thanks

  Possible Duplicate: Could I buy a domain name to increase traffic to my site like this? I have a website with multiple keyword based domains ( 2 actully) Now both domains are common google searches for the topic. What i'm intrested is to handle the domains as such that google can recognize the seconed domain with the same page rank as the primary domain, so it will also appear on the first page. My question is how do i do it correctly so i will help SEO? meaning i want the 2nd domain to be on the first page, because the primary is on the first page for it's keyword. do i simple put a redirect in the index.php file? Or to do a 301 redirect? or change the .htaccess file? Or create a domain pointer in the Control panel?

• URL Rewrite http to https EXCEPT files in a specific subfolder

  I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help. I tried creating a rule to match all URL except those in a nossl subfolder as in this example: <rule name="HTTP to HTTPS redirect" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(/nossl/.*)" negate="true" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="off" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://{HTTP_HOST}/{R:1}" redirectType="Found" /> </rule> But this doesn't work.   I hope someone can help me out here. I am coding a site for a client using the carouFredsel. I am using this because it allows for variable widths with in the slideshow as seen here: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index-old.html. My problems are as follows: to use the built in auto center script the scrolling changes the white space in between images during the transition to fit the width of the wrapper. I need a hack to keep the white space during transition the same, like this: http://2938.sandbox.i3dthemes.net/index.html. • Phone pictures not showing in UbuntuOne folder on computer

  I downloaded the Android app for my phone and set it up to move my pictures from the phone into UbuntuOne. When I go to the UbuntuOne web site the folder shows up and I can view the pictures after I download them. But when I open the UbuntuOne folder on my laptop, the folder with the pictures from my phone isn't listed. How can I get the picture folder to show up in the UbuntuOne folder on my laptop? I was hoping this would be an easy way to get photos from phone to computer.

• What are the correct settings for a subdomain in ZoneEdit?

  I want to create a subdomain for a site hosted by Jimdo (a DIY website builder). Jimdo does not allow subdomains however. I am trying to find a workaround where a subdomain is hosted elsewhere but everything else remains as it is. E.g. I use their email service and I want to keep it. The domain is not hosted by Jimdo, but by a host that allows me to edit my zones. It points to the Jimdo NS. I have independent hosting where I have NS information. This is where I want to host my subdomain. My thinking was that I could use ZoneEdit as a "fork" that allows me to keep using my Jimdo page like before and, at the same time, directs a subdomain to another host. Provided this is possible: Question: How do I configure ZoneEdit CNAME or NS records to forward visitors to my website and my email to my Jimdo mail account while pointing a subdomain to another host?

• Authorization pop-up requested by http://localhost:51675 every time I run Firefox

  Using Ubuntu 10.04. Whenever I run Firefox I get a pop up requesting authorisation. It says 'a user name and password are being requested by http://localhost:51675. The site says "server" I have tried all passwords I know and nothing is accepted. If I click 'cancel' it disappears but re-appears after about 5 minutes. This whole 'experience' is accompanied by a great deal of hard disc activity. Can anyone help with this?

• Will having a website duplicated on multiple top level domains be penalised by search engines [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: Will having multiple domains improve my seo? 7 answers I'm running a website for a global company, and although we rank first in search engine results here in Ireland, a search done from other countries doesn't rank us as highly. If I register the domain at other top level domain names (eg. example.co.uk, example.nor etc.) and then just mirror the .com site to those other domains, will I be penalised by search engines for having duplicate content? Has anyone else faced a similar problem and found a way to capture the global search engine? Thanks.

• Sub Domain tracking with Analytics filters

  Hi All, We currently have Analytics tracking codes running throughout our site including our Sub Domains. What I would like to do is create different Profiles under the same account segmenting the sub domains by means of filters. Currently I am just excluding the hostname of the main website by using the following custom filter: Exclude: Hostname Filter pattern: ^www.mydomain.co.za(.*) I know this isn't the proper method of doing this though and have some of the main domains links coming through in the data. Ideally I would just like to include anything from: sub.domain.co.za Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
