• iPhone - how to be notified of call completion

  Hi- I'm developing an application that needs to take action on completed phone calls, preferably right after the call ends but minimally once per day. I've read up on the new CoreTelphony framework, and it seems I can get call events if my app is active, but I don't see how to launch/wake my app when a call ends if my app is not the foreground app. I also don't see how any of the new pseudo-background "modes" would allow my app to listen for these events in the background. Do any of you know how this might be done? If post-call processing isn't possible, then I'd like to figure out a way to automatically wake my app up once per day, pull all of the call events since the last wakeup, and process them. I know how I might do this with Push or Local notifications, but my understanding is that those require user action to continue; in this case, I just want the processing to happen automatically. Is there a mechanism that would enable this? Thanks, Dan

How can I change the precision of the assert to ignore milliseconds (or any precision I would like it set to)? • Bash variable kills script execution

  Sorry if this is better suited at serverfault, but I think it learns more towards the programming side of things. I have some code that's going into /etc/rc.local to detect what type of touch screen monitor is plugged in and changes out the xorg.conf before launching X. Here is a small snippet: CURRENT_MONITOR=`ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'` case $CURRENT_MONITOR in '') CURRENT_MONITOR='none' ;; esac If one of those two touch screens is plugged in, it works just fine. If any other monitor is plugged in, it stops at the "CURRENT_MONITOR=ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'." For testing I touched two files. One before creating CURRENT_MONITOR and one after CURRENT_MONITOR and only file touched before is created. I'm not a bash programmer so this might be something very obvious.

  Is there a way that when a user types python setup.py install to install a Python package, setup.py can be made to set specific variables at the base of the pacakge? A common example would be to basically set mypackage.__revision__ to be the svn revision of the checkout if one is working from svn. Another example case would be if the user can choose a global option, so that the option mypackage.__option__ be set according to a flag passed to setup.py, e.g. python setup.py install --set-flag=10 Then when using the package, mypackage.__option__ would equal 10.

• Visual studio deployment project error when writing to registry

  Hello I have a setup for an application that was recently converted to be a framework 4.0 project (don't know if it's relevant). The setup has to write to registry (Local Machine) and until now this has always worked perfectly, however now it fails to write to registry on a clean machine (running Windows 7, 64 bit). The setup does not fail, does not show a warning of any kind, however it does not write to the registry (I even set AlwaysCreate property to true on every key, just in case) which of course causes the application to terminate on startup. What could be the cause of this? I have never encountered such an error before. Edit: I have tried running the installer as administrator, didn't change anything.

  Hi, I cannot for the life of me get lists:keyfind to work as I expect in Erlang. I have the following eunit test: should_find_key_test() -> NewList = lists:keystore("key", 1, [], {"key", "value"}), Value = case lists:keyfind("key", 1, NewList) of false -> notfound; {_key, _value} -> _value end, ?debugVal(Value). Whenever I run this test I get the following error message: indextests:should_find_key_test (module 'indextests')...failed ::error:undef in function lists:keyfind/3 called as keyfind("key",1,[{"key","value"}]) in call from indextests:should_find_key_test/0 Can anyone see what I am doing wrong? So, here is what I am using: $ perl -e 'require "scrpt.pl"; loadConfigFile(); GetVariable("My Variable")' This works exactly as expected, but I need to read the XML file every time I am getting a variable. Is there a way I could "preserve" $data across shell calls? The idea is that I read the XML file only once. If no, is there is a more simple way I could do this?   I am trying to put some images on my website that are hosted on Imgur but i only have the link to the Imgur page, not the actual image URL. For example, on this album the URL I am trying to get is this: http://i.imgur.com/csb9Q.jpg (I only need the first image) I have noticed that when the page only has one image, the image file name is the same as the URL address, for example: http://imgur.com/sYlGa & http://i.imgur.com/sYlGa.jpg So this isnt a problem. But for pages with multiple images, this is not the case so how can i get the image URL?

Basically I want to see the people booking online, and see how and where they got me... and hoping there's a better and more elegant way than to have a field that asks "What did you type into Google to find us?"

• Slow query with unexpected scan

  Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM SAMPLE SAMPLE INNER JOIN TEST TEST ON SAMPLE.SAMPLE_NUMBER = TEST.SAMPLE_NUMBER INNER JOIN RESULT RESULT ON TEST.TEST_NUMBER = RESULT . TEST_NUMBER WHERE SAMPLED_DATE BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows clustered index seek if i replace * in SELECT clause to RESULT.TEST_NUMBER (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd io issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas?

• PHP given a series of arbitrary numbers, how can I choose a logical max value on a line graph?

  I am constructing a line graph in PHP. I was setting the max value of the line graph to the max value of my collection of items, but this ended up making the graph less readable you are unable to view the highest line on the graph as it intersects with the top of it. So what I need is basically a formula to take a set of numbers and calculate what the logical max value of on the line graph should be.. so some examples 3500 250 10049 45394 434 312 Max value on line graph should probably be 50000 493 412 194 783 457 344 max value on line graph would ideally be 1000 545 649 6854 5485 11545 In this case, 12000 makes sense as max value So something as simple as rounding upward to the nearest thousandth might work but I'd need it to progressively increase as the numbers got bigger. (50000 instead of 46,000 in first example) The maximum these numbers will ever be is about a million. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

• Will a Response.Redirect exception go to global.asax?

  I'm aware that when you call Response.Redirect it fires a ThreadAbortException. A co-worker has demonstrated calling response.redirect and then it goes to the global.asax. For the life of me I cannot get the ThreadAbortException to go to the global.asax, its like it is being suppressed naturally in the system. The reason I'm asking this is we believe the response.redirect is the cause of some automated error emails, but I'm not convinced this is the case especially if I can't even get it to debug into the global.asax. Any Ideas why I can't get the Response.Redirect to fire the global error handler?

I understand that filling the head_slot is a way to do it, but that can only happen when you are adding a template to the page and that template is being rendered. Here is the scenario - I have an array list of strings (say 100 strings) I have a Reader Class that reads the strings and passes them to a Writer Class that prints the strings to the console. Right now this runs in a Single Thread Model. I wanted to make this multi-threaded but with the following features - Ability to set MAX_READERS Ability to set MAX_WRITERS Ability to set BATCH_SIZE So basically the code should instantiate those many Readers and Writers and do the work in parallel. Any pseudo code will really be helpful to keep me going!

• How can I prevent MEF from throwing an exception when an Export is not found?

  I have a class with an IList<T> property decorated with the [ImportMany(allowRecomposition = true)] attribute. There are some conditions in which the application might not find any available Exports of the requested type. Right now, it's throwing a CompositionException if no Exports of the requested type are found. I dislike application flow being determined by thrown exceptions, so I would rather not catch and react in this case. Rather, I just want program execution to continue. Is there a flag or something I can set to make this Import optional? I know for single import properties, you can do this: [Import(AllowDefault = true)] but 'AllowDefault' is not an option on the ImportMany attribute.

• Why increase pointer by two while finding loop in linked list, why not 3,4,5?

  I had a look at question already which talk about algorithm to find loop in a linked list. I have read Floyd's cycle-finding algorithm solution, mentioned at lot of places that we have to take two pointers. One pointer( slower/tortoise ) is increased by one and other pointer( faster/hare ) is increased by 2. When they are equal we find the loop and if faster pointer reaches null there is no loop in the linked list. Now my question is why we increase faster pointer by 2. Why not something else? Increasing by 2 is necessary or we can increase it by X to get the result. Is it necessary that we will find a loop if we increment faster pointer by 2 or there can be the case where we need to increment by 3 or 5 or x.

  Hi, I have an interface named IHarvester. There are 3 implementations of that interface, each under their own namespace: Google Yahoo Bing A HarvesterManager uses the given harvester. It knows the interface and all 3 implementations. I want some way of letting the class user say in which harvester it wants to use. And in the code select that implementation, without a switch-case implementation. Can reflection save my day?
