• Registering a delegate function with an ISO C++ callback (on mono)

  I am thinking of wrapping ISO C++ code in C# class. The only problem so far is how to deal with the C++ callbacks. In .Net languages (C# and Vb.Net), I believe the callback equivalent. Sticking with C# for now, can anyone recommend a way that I can register the C# delegate functions with my ISO C++ code. The ISO C++ code is a notification library, and I want to be able to "push" the notifications to the mono framework (i.e. C# delegates in this case). My underlying assumption is that the mechanism/steps to implement this would be the same for the .Net languages - I'll just have to code the actual delegates in the .Net language of choice - is that assumption correct? Last but not the least, is the question of thread saftey. The underlying ISO C++ code that I am exposing to .Net (mono to be more specific), is both re-ntrant and thread safe - do I have to do anything "extra" to call .Net delegate from my ISO C++ code?

  Hi, How can I allow SKU be longer than 34 characters (for simple products) for all products? When i add new product(simple) and enter more than 34 characters, Magento cuts it to 34 after saving. In the database the 'sku' attributes ( for quete item,order item,invoice item, shipment item) from eav_attribute table hold varchar(255). For Catalog_Product_Entity the attributed is VarChar(64). In either case, it is more than 34characters. Thus, I could change SKU to 64 characters without making any change in database, correct? How do i do that? I have good understanding of the user side magento code, but not Admin side. Can you suggest me good tutorial on making changes in Admin side that could help me figure this question myself. • C#: reflection alternative for switch on enum in order to select namespace/class

  Hi, I have an interface named IHarvester. There are 3 implementations of that interface, each under their own namespace: Google Yahoo Bing A HarvesterManager uses the given harvester. It knows the interface and all 3 implementations. I want some way of letting the class user say in which harvester it wants to use. And in the code select that implementation, without a switch-case implementation. Can reflection save my day? • Git: What is a tracking branch?

  Can someone explain a "tracking branch" as it applies to git? Here's the definition from git-scm.com: A 'tracking branch' in Git is a local branch that is connected to a remote branch. When you push and pull on that branch, it automatically pushes and pulls to the remote branch that it is connected with. Use this if you always pull from the same upstream branch into the new branch, and if you don't want to use "git pull" explicitly. Unfortunately, being new to git and coming from SVN, that definition makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm reading through "The Pragmatic Guide to Git" (great book, by the way), and they seem to suggest that tracking branches are a good thing and that after creating your first remote (origin, in this case), you should set up your master branch to be a tracking branch, but it unfortunately doesn't cover why a tracking branch is a good thing or what benefits you get by setting up your master branch to be a tracking branch of your origin repository. Can someone please enlighten me (in English)?

• Why increase pointer by two while finding loop in linked list, why not 3,4,5?

  I had a look at question already which talk about algorithm to find loop in a linked list. I have read Floyd's cycle-finding algorithm solution, mentioned at lot of places that we have to take two pointers. One pointer( slower/tortoise ) is increased by one and other pointer( faster/hare ) is increased by 2. When they are equal we find the loop and if faster pointer reaches null there is no loop in the linked list. Now my question is why we increase faster pointer by 2. Why not something else? Increasing by 2 is necessary or we can increase it by X to get the result. Is it necessary that we will find a loop if we increment faster pointer by 2 or there can be the case where we need to increment by 3 or 5 or x.

• Distributing a function over a single dimension of an array in MATLAB?

  I often find myself wanting to collapse an n-dimensional matrix across one dimension, and can't figure out if there is a concise incantation I can use to do this. For example, when parsing an image, I often want to do something like this. (Note! Illustrative example only. I know about rgb2gray for this specific case.) img = imread('whatever.jpg'); s = size(img); for i=1:s(1) for j=1:s(2) bw_img = mean(img(i,j,:)); end end I would love to express this as something like: bw = on(color, 3, @mean); or bw(:,:,1) = mean(color); Is there a short way to do this?

• Denormalize for Simplicity: Ungood idea?

  After reading this question, I've learned that denormalization is not a solution for simplicity. What about this case? I have news-articles which have a list of sites-article-will-be-published-to. The latter can be expressed in normalized fashion either by table and a many-to-many relationship (via a cross-table, I think). But the simple solution is to just throw a bunch of booleans for the sites-article-will-be-published-to. Assuming the sites are: small in number will not change over time have no fields themselves, except a name Is this still a terrible idea? The many-to-many relationship seems somewhat cumbersome, but I've done it before in cases like this (and it seemed cumbersome). Note: I'm doing this in Rails, where it's not that painful.

  I have a facebook app that I authenticate using a general-purpose authentification. How do i Achieve the same effect in javascript? Maybe I need to edit one of the funcitons (though ideally not, as they are part of a library) in that case please point me in the right direction.

  Hi, I have rails app which has a list of users. I have different relations between users, for example worked with, friend, preferred. When listing the users i have to decide if the current user can add a specific user to his friends. -if current_user.can_request_friendship_with(user) =add_to_friends(user) -else =remove_from_friends(user) -if current_user.can_request_worked_with(user) =add_to_worked_with(user) -else =remove_from_worked_with(user) The can_request_friendship_with(user) looks like: def can_request_friendship_with(user) !self.eql?(user) && !self.friendships.find_by_friend_id(user) end My problem is that this means in my case 4 query per user. Listing 10 users means 40 query. Could i somehow eager load this?

  I have a Django project where the company will have a main site like www.ourcompany.org and a bunch of sub-domains like project.ourcompany.org. Content appearing in the sub-domains like case studies should also appear in the main site. I've decided to use multiple instances of Django BUT one database for each sub-domain so that I can have some flexibility and take advantage of the Sites framework. What I'm not sure of is how to access the models across the multiple instances. If I have a model: class CaseStudy(models.Model): title=models.CharField(max_length=100) site=models.ManyToMany(Site) Do I need to create this model in every instance so that I can have access to the object?

• How to avoid automatic renaming of sub signature parameters in visual basic 6.

  In Visual basic 6, i declare a sub like this: Private Sub test1(ByRef XmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub after that, i declare another sub like the following one: Private Sub test2(ByRef xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub automagically, the first method is transformed in: Private Sub test1(ByVal xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub so the XmlFooOutput parameter is transformed in xmlFooOutput. This is a pretty dangerous feature because, method like those could be mapped to different XSL presentation files that read XML values through Xpath. So when test1 parameter is renamed, XSL bound to test1 method goes broken because Xpath point to XmlFooOuput but the correct value is now in xmlFooOutput. Is it possible to remove this weird feature? I'm using microsoft visual basic 6.0 (SP6). • Branch structure for a web site

  I was recently reading the TFS Branching Guide and it suggests a branch for every release. For a web site, there is only one "version" released at a time. In that case is it appropriate to have a single "Production" branch? Then, during the process of preparing for a release, you merge changes from the Main branch into Production. (As opposed to the suggestion to branch each release.) If you need to do a hotfix, do it in the Production branch, then reverse integrate into Main. Doing it this way allows you to keep configuration files for Production intact in the Production branch.

• Unstyled web page in IE6. Not FOUC

  I have a very interesting issue with one of the websites I created. It renders fine in Safari, Chrome, Opera, FF, IE7&8 but IE6 does not seem to recognize my stylesheet. I'm not using @import for loading, so it's not a case a FOUC. The website is using Wordpress but never had an issue like this before with WP.   I don't know haskell syntax, but I know some FP concepts (like algebraic data types, pattern matching, higher-order functions ect). Can someone explain please, what does this code mean: data Tree ? = Leaf ? | Fork ? (Tree ?) (Tree ?) rotateR tree = case tree of Fork q (Fork p a b) c -> Fork p a (Fork q b c) As I understand, first line is something like Tree-type declaration (but I don't understand it exactly). Second line includes pattern matching (I don't understand as well why do we need to use pattern matching here). And third line does something absolutely unreadable for non-haskell developer. I've found definition of Fork as fork (f,g) x = (f x, g x) but I can't move further anymore.

  I've noticed that MySql has an extensive search capacity, allowing both wildcards and regular expressions. However, I'm in somewhat in a bind since I'm trying to extract multiple values from a single string in my select query. For example, if I had the text "<span>Test</span> this <span>query</span>", perhaps using regular expressions I could find and extract values "Test" or "query", but in my case, I have potentially n such strings to extract. And since I can't define n columns in my select statement, that means I'm stuck. Is there anyway I could have a list of values (ideally separated by commas) of any text contained with span tags? In other words, if I ran this query, I would get "Test,query" as the value of spanlist: select <insert logic here> as spanlist from HtmlPages ...

• Checking for uppercase/lowercase/numbers with Jquery

  Either I'm being really retarded here or its just the lack of sleep but why doesn't this work? If I use the "or" operator it works for each separate test but as soon as it change it to the "and" operator it stops working. I'm trying to test the password input of a form to see if its contains lowercase, uppercase and at least 1 number of symbol.   Hi, Because of a strange C++ warning about the visibility of some symbols and an interesting answer, linking to a paper which describes the different visibility types and cases (section 2.2.4 is about C++ classes), I started to wonder if it is needed for a standalone application to export symbols at all (except main - or is that needed?). Why exactly are they needed to be exported in standalone applications? Is "an exported symbol" an synomym for "visible symbol"? I.e. a hidden symbol is a symbol which is not exported? Do the object files already differ between visible symbols and hidden symbols? Or is this made at the linking step, so that only the visible symbols are exported? Does the visibility of symbols matter in case for debug information? Or is that completely independent, i.e. I would also get a nice backtrace if I have all symbols hidden? How is STABS/DWARF related to the visibility of symbols?

• creating a wordpress dev enviornment and uploading to production

  I am an old school java developer who is considering a using wordpress. I'm used to developing locally on my PC (yeah yeah not even a mac) and then ftping my files up to a production environment on a remote server. My high level review of wordpress gives me the impression that typically there is no concept of lower environments and that all updates occur directly in production. Is this the case? If not, can someone explain how one goes about uploading the files to a web site? Thanks, Jeff
