Is there any tool that can create these binary keyboard layout configuration files? I grew up on the Macintosh international keyboard layout, which used the option key extensively, and now I would like to use the same layout on Windows. On Linux this Mac international keyboard layout exists for both the console as well as for X.Org. On Windows, the most similar layout is US International, which is not the same.

  I have two machines - one is running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit and the other is running Windows 7 Starter Edition (32-bit). The Ubuntu machine is connected to the Internet via the eth0 interface. That machine also has a wireless network interface (wlan0) that is currently functioning as an ad-hoc network. I can connect to the ad-hoc network just fine with the Windows machine but each time I wish to do so, I must manually initiate the connection and enter the password. Is there some way to instruct Windows to automatically connect to this network (an option I have for standard wireless networks but not ad-hoc networks)?

  It's about time that I figure this out. I can say with a pretty high confidence that I have experienced this issue in all consumer versions of Windows since XP. I keep "Auto-hide the task bar" checked to maximize screen real estate. Every once in a while, the task bar will refuse to hide while individual windows will continue to act as if that option is checked (by falling under the task bar). For years, I have fixed this by rebooting. Of course, I cannot predict the timing or frequency of the problem, so the process becomes burdensome. I want to know how this can be fixed without rebooting. It has affected my on multiple machines using multiple versions of Windows, so I cannot be the only one who is bothered by it. Can anyone help me solve this?

  I want my Windows to run as fast as possible. If I have 12GB RAM in Windows 7 64bit, quad core CPU, and all apps fit in memory, will the swap file ever be used for anything? The question is about if it's a good idea to put the swap file in a RAM disk. Would a RAM disk help in any way or will Windows intelligently use all the available memory for all its work? I am also thinking of putting the temp folder on a RAM disk. I know the RAM disk is volatile memory and I don't care about its content if it gets lost.

  Hello! I am using a brand new MacBook Pro. I am running a copy of Windows 7 natively via bootcamp (No use of Virtual Machine Software at all). However the only way I can get Windows to connect to the internet is via ethernet, as opposed to the Macs Airport card picking up the wireless. It just refuses to connect, and gives me a limited access status. Any ideas!? I've run Windows XP natively via bootcamp and I had a few issues with the network constantly dropping out, however I blamed that on the drivers and the general shiteness of XP.... Help greatly appreciated.

• How can I route packets from one application to a virtual machine in windows 7?

  I am trying to test an application running in windows 7, and I would like to send the packets it generates to a server VM (I am using virtualbox) on the local machine which will act as a simulation for when packets will be really sent over the internet to a distant server. I need to check for correctness of the packets in certain situations. Is there a way on windows to take packets produced by an application and instead of passing it to my router, pass it along to another process, i.e. my virtual machine. I'd prefer not to change any of the code on my application and would rather find an outside solution. Is there such a solution for windows 7?

  I have /boot/ on /dev/sda1 (1GB), followed by my Linux root LVM on /dev/sda2 (1.3GB). Finally, I installed Windows 7 on /dev/sda3 in the remaining 700GB of space. When I select Windows 7 in the grub menu, I get something like the following error and am thrown to grub4dos: find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /bootmgr Error 15: file not found Unable to locate necessary tables for adjustment. None of the options in grub4dos return anything but the above error. I heard that 1TB is the upper limit for locating Windows 7 partitions; is this true? How can I fix the above?

• MediaShield RAID 5 is showing up as 760GB when the actual size is 2.7TB

  I just finished setting up Windows 2003 Server on my new server. And I started setting up a RAID 5 for it. I have 4x1TB Hard Drives. From MediaSheild RAID Utility (at boot time) the RAID size is displayed as 2.7TB. Linux also shows it as 2.7TB. However, in Windows, everything (including Windows Disk Management as well as Windows based MediaShield utility) is reporting only 760Gb. I already tried converting partitioning table to GUID from MBR, because I read somewhere that Windows can only handle up to 2TB MBR tables, that didn't help much. Tried searching for partitioning utilities that I could use, but couldn't find anything free. Formatted the disk as NTFS partition from within Linux, it stop showing in Windows all together, even MediaShield windows utility isn't showing at anymore. Windows is installed on a separate 500Gb hard drive, that's setup not to support RAID. Any ideas?

  Under Windows 7 x64, when I'm ripping CDs with Exact Audio Copy, it spawns a Command Prompt window each time it invokes the external MP3 compression program I use, LAME. While that's going on, I usually like to surf the web. However, I find it quite annoying that even when Firefox has the foreground, the Command Prompt windows spawned by EAC are coming up in the foreground, on top of my Firefox window. Is there a way to make those new Command Prompt windows spawn in the background? Alternatively, is there a way to make the current active window stay in the foreground / on top while I'm using it?

  I have a new HP Z800 Workstation, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The machine has 4GB of RAM -- windows reported 1.99GB available, 2GB was "hardware reserved". I added another 2 GB and windows reports that there is 6GB of physical RAM, but now 4GB is "hardware reserved". The BIOS sees the full RAM amount as well.   We have a really old Video learning program that we need to run from the network for our students. However it uses Director Player 6.0 and the students get the error: "Unable to copy the driver file C:\Windows\xobglu16.dll to your Windows directory. Your disk may be full" Now the solution I've read is to copy the files manually to each machine and mark them read-only. I'm trying to do this via GPP, but the Event log is showing an Access is denied error. I believe it is because the student accounts do not have permission to c:\windows.   I have noticed that the slowest drive in my system is used most during an msi installation. I mainly notice this when running windows updates but it seems to be msi installs in general. The setup I last saw this occur on was running Windows 7 with the following drives: Sata: 240GB SSD NTFS ~515MB/s Operating system drive 1TB NTFS ~110MB/s Firewire: 4TB ExFAT ~80MB/s I would think that windows would choose the fastest drive with available space for temporary files. But it will instead choose the external drive with the slowest transfer speed. I could also understand choosing the 1TB for not being an ssd in an attempt to preserve the longevity of the ssd write capacity. Why does this happen? Is there a way to force these installations to use the OS drive or a specific drive?
