  • Java EE@Java Day Taipei 2014

    Java Day Taipei 2014 was held at the Taipei International Convention Center on August 1st. Organized by Oracle University, it is one of the largest Java developer events in Taiwan. This was another successful year for Java Day Taipei with a fully sold out venue. In addition to Oracle speakers like me, Steve Chin and Naveen Asrani, the event also featured a bevy of local speakers including Taipei Java community leaders. Topics included Java SE, Java EE, JavaFX and Big Data. I delivered a keynote on Java EE 7/Java EE 8 as well as a talks on aligning the JavaScript ecosystem with Java EE 7 and using NoSQL solutions in Java EE applications.     Oracle is pleased to announce that as part of the Demo Equipment Purchase Program, until December 31, 2012, Oracle VADs may purchase Exadata, Exalogic and Exalytics configurations, for their own demonstration purposes or to distribute to a partner for the partner's demonstration use, at 25% off the list price. In addition, purchasing partners will be eligible to receive 10% of list price (excluding support) in MDF funds to support the partner's Exadata/Exalogic/Exalytics demand generation activities. JSR 360, Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 8, has been submitted by Oracle for JSR Review.  This review period is open until 15 October.  The ME EC will vote on the JSR Approval Ballot 16-29 October. JSR 361 Java ME Embedded Profile, has been submitted by Oracle for JSR Review. This review period is open until 15 October.  The ME EC will vote on the JSR Approval Ballot 16-29 October.

  • Even distribution through a chain of resources

    I'm working on an algorithm which routes tasks through a chain of distributed resources based on a hash (or random number). For example, say you have 10 gateways into a service which distribute tasks to 1000 handlers through 100 queues. 10,000 connected clients are expected to be connected to gateways at any given time (numbers are very general to keep it simple). Thats 10,000 clients 10 gateways (producers) 100 queues 1000 workers/handlers (consumers) The flow of each task is client-gateway-queue-worker Each client will have it's own hash/number which is used to route each task from the client to the same worker each time, with each task going through the same gateway and queue each time. Yet the algorithm handles distribution evenly, meaning each gateway, queue, and worker will have an even workload. My question is what exactly would this be called? Does such a thing already exist? This started off as a DHT, but I realized that DHTs can't do exactly what I need, so I started from scratch.

    The interest for having a GlassFish community event at JavaOne is still very strong both inside Oracle and in the community, so this year again we'll be hosting a get together on the Sunday prior to the main event. If you're in town and attending JavaOne, mark your calendars : Sunday 2nd, October 2011 - 12:30pm-4:30pm in the Moscone This will be an opportunity to discuss the community status (adoption of Java EE 6, GlassFish 3.1.x) and hear about future plans, mainly around Java EE 7 and the related GlassFish release(s). We'd also like to have several participants share their deployment stories as well as some time for an free-form unconference format and some team building activity. Of course, beyond all the content shared in slides, this should really also be a good excuse to meet folks from the community and from the core GlassFish team at Oracle. Here's a post on last year's event. And before anybody asks, we are still exploring the party situation :-)

  • IIS 6.0 :: SSL certificate install :: issue

    Certificate request process works fine. Once the certificate is received from VeriSign, the installation process also works fine (no errors.) However, once installed, the new certificate is not "assigned." Meaning, when I view the IIS instance security properties, it still shows the previous certificate start & end dates. Thoughts? Windows 2003, Web Edition. I have 3 other Win2003WE machines, configured nearly the same, and do not have this problem.
