  I'm looking to get query results back from Linq in the order that I pass IDs to the query. So it would look something like this: var IDs = new int [] { 5, 20, 10 } var items = from mytable in db.MyTable where IDs.Contains(mytable.mytableID) orderby // not sure what to do here select mytable; I'm hoping to get items in the order of IDs (5, 20, 10). • Avoid writing SQL queries altogether in SSIS

  Working on a Data Warehouse project, the guy that gave us the tutorial advised that we stick to using SQL queries over defining a lot of data flow transformations, citing points like it'll consume a lot of memory on the ETL box so we'd rather leave the processing to the DB box. Is this really advisable? Where's the balance between relying on GUI tools over executing a bunch of SQL scripts on your Integration package? And honestly, I'd like to avoid writing SQL queries as much as I can.

• Adding metadata attributes to MySQL table

  I would like to add custom attributes to a MySQL table which I can read via php. These attributes are not to interfere with the table itself - they are primarily accessed by php code during code generation time and these attributes HAVE to reside in the DB itself. Something similar in concept to .NET reflection. Does MySQL support anything like this? Thanks.

  I have a MySQL database with a field Name which contains full names. To select all people with last names starting with a particular letter, let's say A for this example, I use the following query: SELECT * FROM db WHERE Name LIKE '% A%'. However, this also selects users who have a middle name starting with A. Is there anyway to alter this query so that only a last name starting in A will be selected?

• Why limit WCF ServiceContracts to 10-20 OperationContracts?

  I've seen recommendations (Juval Lowy, et al) that a service contract should have "no more than 20 members...twelve is probably the practical limit". Why? It seems that if you wish to provide a service as the interface to a relatively large db (50-100 tables) you're going to go way past that in just CRUD alone. I've worked with plenty of other services that provided hundreds of 'OperationContracts'...is there something peculiar about WCF? Is there something I'm missing here?

• Exception: attempt to acquire a reference on a close SQLiteClosable

  I posted this back in May on the [android-developers] Google Group. I never heard back and was not able to reproduce the problem until one of my students did last week. I figured I'd post it here and see if it rang any bells for anyone. The database is definitely open. The SQLiteClosable is the SQLiteQuery created by SQLiteQueryDriver, and I see no evidence that there is an object pool or something going on here that might explain how a "new" SQLiteClosable is already closed. The fact that it is sporadic (meaning the same UI operations sometimes trigger the exception, but not always) suggests some sort of pool, race condition, or something...but I'm not sure where. Thoughts? Thanks! UPDATE: The code in question is from the LunchList tutorials out of my Android Programming Tutorials book. It's a bit spread out and not terribly suitable for posting directly in SO. You can download the code for that book from the above link if you want to take a look at it. I do not recall exactly which edition of the tutorial the student was working on at the time, though it was in the Tutorial 12-Tutorial 16 range. I was mostly hoping to run across somebody who had tripped over this problem before and had a likely culprit. I'm fairly certain my database is open. Thanks again!

• NULL ForeignKeyTo property in Subsonic 3/ASP.NET MVC?

  Issue: the primary key of the base table is named differently than the the key in the fk table. Subsonic 3 does not know how to handle that, which is fine, its beta. So I was going to change the Html.ControlFor logic to just grab the table and use the pkname from that: var fk = db.FindTable(col.ForeignKeyTo.FriendlyName); However the .ForeignKeyTo is null. Where in the templates does that ITable get populated?

  Hello everybody. Before I start a disclaimer, I should add a little disclaimer, that I am relatively new to Cocoa development and C in general. However I do have a copy of 'Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X 3rd edition' by Aaron Hillegass, which I am working through and using as a base, if anybody has a copy I am using the 'AmaZone' example on page 346 as a template and base. I trying to develop a small client app that takes a search string then displays results from a database accordingly. The database will contain a: list of files, their location, description & creation date, so for the moment the field number and types will remain the same. After looking around on SO, I saw something like: NSURL *myURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.myserver.com/results.php"]; NSArray *sqlResults = [[NSArray alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:myURL]; I've worked with php before, so my current thinking after seeing this is create a php script on the server that queries the database, and creates an XML output. And with the XML response, just parse it. Would this be ok? as is there any major pitfalls anybody can see, that I can't. I know there are some database bundles, I've had a look at BaseTen for Postgres, but being relatively new to this, didn't want to get in over my head. Or if anybody else has any other suggestions and ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi all, I am working on a Spring application and trying to get my URL mapping correct. What I would like to have work is the following: http://localhost:8080/idptest -> doesn't work But instead, I have to reference the context name in my URL in order to resolve the mapping: http://localhost:8080/<context_name>/idptest -> works How can I avoid the requirement of referencing the context name in my URL without using a rewrite/proxy engine e.g. Apache? • Unity Configuration and Same Assembly

  I'm currently getting an error trying to resolve my IDataAccess class. The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Could not load file or assembly 'TestProject' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (C:\Source\TestIoC\src\TestIoC\TestProject\bin\Debug\TestProject.vshost.exe.config line 14) This is inside a WPF Application project. What is the correct syntax to refer to the Assembly you are currently in? is there a way to do this? I know in a larger solution I would be pulling Types from seperate assemblies so this might not be an issue. But what is the right way to do this for a small self-contained test project. Note: I'm only interested in doing the XML config at this time, not the C# (in code) config.   I use nexus opensource version maven 2.2.1 When I type "mvn help:effective-settings", i got the error below [INFO] Scanning for projects... • PHP Doctrine: generation problem?

  I'm generating models from my Mysql db. It generates a foreign key collection properly, but not the other way around...
