• Linq to Entities and outer joins issue

  Can somebody tell me, why does Linq to Entities translate many to 1 relationships to left outer joins instead of inner joins? It relation was many to 0..1. There's referential constraint on DB itself, that ensures there's a record in the right table, so inner join should be used instead. Is it possible to write LINQ in a way so they will translate to inner joins rather than left outer joins. It would speed query execution a lot.

  I had a similar question posted here a few hours ago, just now I got the answer that I should look into using AJAX to do this. Since I want to complete this part of the site today I can't afford to learn AJAX from the basics to do this now.. This shouldn't be something difficult and I thougt that I would be able to do this but I'm not skilled enough... I have a form, when you click submit, it posts to twitter.com/statuses/update.xml and I need to be able to do so without being redirected there. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to learn AJAX? • C# Reading and Writing a Char[] to and from a Byte[]

  Hi, I have a byte array of around 10,000 bytes which is basically a blob from delphi that contains char, string, double and arrays of various types. This need to be read in and updated via C#. I've created a very basic reader that gets the byte array from the db and converts the bytes to the relevant object type when accessing the property which works fine. My problem is when I try to write to a specific char[] item, it doesn't seem to update the byte array. I know a possible solution is to use a private variable called _usercaplas that I set and update as needed however as the byte array is nearly 10,000 bytes in length the class is already long and I would like a simpler approach as to reduce the overall code length and complexity. • Android custom view - setting it to take up max space available but no more

  I have a custom View class in my app that I'm using in xml layouts. Wherever I'm using this view in my xml, I don't want it to stretch it's container, but I want it to fill out whatever space is available. Here's an example to make it a little clearer. I have a LinearLayout set to horizontal orientation with my custom view followed by a TextView. The TextView is going to stretch the LinearLayout so that it takes up the space it needs and no more. I want my custom view to take up the vertical space that the TextView has made available. Let's say the TextView ends up being 50px tall because of it's contents. The LinearLayout is thus stretched to about this height (not taking into account any margins or padding), so I just want the view to know it can stretch to that height and not "push on" its container. Without overriding and of the measurement methods of the base class (onMeasure, etc) my View is actually stretching to take up as much space as possible. I have already played around with wrap_content and fill_parent a bunch, so I'm assuming I need to do something in one of the View class' measure methods.

• Every subsequent call to an Axis webservice fails

  I've been having a strange issue with an Axis webservice which is called through the https protocol. Basically, when an invocation is made, the call goes through just fine. • Recommendations of a high volume log event viewer in a Java enviroment

  I am in a situation where I would like to accept a LOT of log events controlled by me - notably the logging agent I am preparing for slf4j - and then analyze them interactively. I am not as such interested in a facility that presents formatted log files, but one that can accept log events as objects and allow me to sort and display on e.g. threads and timelines etc. Chainsaw could maybe be an option but is currently not compatible with logback which I use for technical reasons. Is there any project with stand alone viewers or embedded in an IDE which would be suitable for this kind of log handling. I am aware that I am approaching what might be suitable for a profiler, so if there is a profiler projekt suitable for this kind of data acquisition and display where I can feed the event pipe, I would like to hear about it). Thanks for all feedback Update 2009-03-19: I have found that there is not a log viewer which allows me to see what I would like (a visual display of events with coordinates determined by day and time, etc), so I have decided to create a very terse XML format derived from the log4j XMLLayout adapted to be as readable as possible while still being valid XML-snippets, and then use the Microsoft LogParser to extract the information I need for postprocessing in other tools.

  I am creating an Android app that includes a third party jar. That third party jar utilizes internal logging that is failing to initialize when I run the app, with this error: "org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation". The 3rd party jar appears to be using org.apache.commons.logging and to depend on log4j, specifically log4j-1.2.14.jar. I have packaged the log4j jar into the Android app. The third party jar was packaged with a log4j.xml configuration file, which I have tried packaging into the app as an XML resource (and also as a raw resource). The "No suitable Log implementation" error message is not very descriptive, and I have no immediate familiarity with Java logging. So I am looking for likely causes of the problem (what class or configuration resources might I be missing?) or for some debugging technique that will result in a different error message that is more explicit about the problem. I do not have access to source code for the 3rd party jar. Here is the exception stack trace. When I run the app, I get the following exception as soon as one of the third party jar classes attempts to initialize its internal logging.   Hi. I have 2 datagrids with data that binds at loadtime in xaml. Then I have a button that inserts a row in the database, but rows aren't added to the datagrids when I press the button. I would like a fix that doesn't just add a gridrow, but actually refreshes the data and fetches the new row from the db. • Hibernate Communications Link Failure in Hibernate Based Java Servlet application powered by MySQL

  Let me describe my question - I have a Java application - Hibernate as the DB interfacing layer over MySQL. I get the communications link failure error in my application. The occurence of this error is a very specific case. I get this error , When I leave mysql server unattended for more than approximately 6 hours (i.e. when there are no queries issued to MySQL for more than approximately 6 hours). I am pasting a top 'exception' level description below, and adding a pastebin link for a detailed stacktrace description. javax.persistence.PersistenceException: org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: Cannot open connection - Caused by: org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: Cannot open connection - Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure - The last packet successfully received from the server was 1,274,868,181,212 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. - Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect the link to the pastebin for further investigation - http://pastebin.com/4KujAmgD What I understand from these exception statements is that MySQL is refusing to take in any connections after a period of idle/nil activity. I have been reading up a bit about this via google search, and came to know that one of the possible ways to overcome this is to set values for c3p0 properties as c3p0 comes bundled with Hibernate. Specifically, I read from here http://www.mchange.com/projects/c3p0/index.html that setting two properties idleConnectionTestPeriod and preferredTestQuery will solve this for me. But these values dont seem to have had an effect. Is this the correct approach to fixing this? If not, what is the right way to get over this?   I'm having strange issue with R.java file and styles defined in my resources. Here's some code: In res/values/strings.xml: <style parent="android:Theme.Dialog" name="PopupWindowStyle"> <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/bg1</item> <item name="android:textColor">@android:color/black</item> </style> In AndroidManifest.xml: <activity android:name=".RegisterScreen" android:icon="@drawable/ico" android:label="@string/applicationName" android:theme="@style/PopupWindowStyle" android:configChanges="locale|touchscreen|keyboard|keyboardHidden|navigation|orientation|fontScale"> </activity> In autogenerated gen/.../R.java: public static final class style { public static final int PopupWindowStyle=0x7f090000; } After some changes in the project, eclipse changed autogenerated value for PopupWindowStyle from 0x7f080000 to 0x7f090000. After that, on Android 1.5, RegisterScreen activity is displayed without PopupWindowStyle style - there is an error displayed in logcat: Skipping entry 0x7f090000 in package table 0 because it is not complex! On Android 1.6 however everything works fine - PopupWindowStyle works like it was before it's integer value has changed. I was testing this issue, by reverting the source code to older revisions. I can confirm, that this problem started occurring after src code commit, which changed two files completely unrelated to this part of code - and an autogenerated R.java file. Any idea what could cause that?

I want to run a GQL query to retrieve all entities with an image (i.e. their "Icon" property is not NULL). Trying to use the following query: "SELECT * FROM Names WHERE Icon!=NULL" did not work...
