I'm having this error message while running ./configure: checking for gsl-config... no checking for GSL - version >= 1.0... no *** The gsl-config script installed by GSL could not be found *** If GSL was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GSL_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to gsl-config. configure: error: could not find required gsl library I checked and I have the GSL already installed: :~/Programas/ape-2.2.0$ dpkg -l | grep gsl ii libgsl0ldbl 1.16+dfsg-1ubuntu1 i386 GNU Scientific Library (GSL) -- library package So I have the library but the program installation isn't finding it. • Help file formats - MSHA files v CHM files

  Recently I was tasked with producing a help file from a C#/WPF/Crystal Reports application using Sandcastle. I have previously blogged about the problems in doing that and the change that is going into the next version of Sandcastle that allows the vagaries of Crystal (this missing BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder) to be handled. At http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/devdocs/thread/0b110502-f5bb-4c56-96a5-4347a2a7a68a/, I describe how I tried each of the formats. Two of the formats could not be built and the error messages were not exactly helpful as to the cause. These two formats turned out to be obsolete. The MSHA format worked but was not suitable for a standalone application, so that left me with the older CHM format. I therefore asked on that thread "will the HTML Help 1 (CHM) format continue to be supported for the foreseeable future?".Rob Chandler, MVP in help systems, gave a very helpful answer, to the effect that there is not yet a replacement for the CHM format.

• can not get Toshiba tv to full resolution

  I have a 23inch Toshiba model#23L1350U that I am using as a computer monitor via VGA plug; it is a full 1080P resolution TV but in Ubuntu it shows up as a Toshiba 72inch Television and wont go past the resolution 1366 by 1768. Has anyone came up with a solution to this problem..I used to get full 1080 resolution with my Insignia 32 inch TV so I know my hardware can push the signal, I am running a Radeon x1550 graphics cars 3200+ processor on a 756 chip set 64bit version of Ubuntu 13.04 your help is greatly appreciated and you may or may not be compensated for your time

• Is Adobe Flash 11.2 working with Nvidia hardware again in 12.04?

  I installed the newest Nvidia-Linux drivers version number 304.43 on 12.04 installation and all Flash Videos now show me "accelerated video rendering". Previous Nvidia drivers + Adobe Flash only rendered in software, at least since Adobe officially said they turned off "hardware acceleration" for Linux, because of unstable and unsecure drivers. Has this changed? Is hardware acceleration really back? Can anyone verify this as well? The Nvidia driver 304.43 patch notes said: Fixed a bug that caused VDPAU to hang when expanding the YouTube Flash Player. Hardware: Nvidia 8600M GT

• 3.5.0-18 kernel update broke BCM43228

  After updating the kernel to 3.5.0-18 the Broadcom BCM43228 wireless card of my Acer Aspire One 756 has stopped working properly. The card often refuses to connect to my AP, and if it connects it behaves very unstable. I have already reinstalled the drivers, as recommended by googling around. As far as I can tell the only driver that supports my card is the bcmwl package. I found one solution saying I should install broadcom-sta using module assistant, however I could not get this to install and apparently broadcom-sta and bcmwl are effectively the same driver? Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Is it possible to just downgrade to the previous kernel version?

On http://help.ubuntu.com/community/FreeNX under the section: Installing the FreeNX server on Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) and higher, step #2, bjorn-nostvold erroneously changed on 2013-01-24 "add-apt-repository" to "apt-add-repository". The original "add-apt-repository" is correct - at least on my Karmic (9.10) version of Ubuntu. By the number of confused people I've found via google search, this seems to be throwing off a lot of people, myself included.

  I have one website. I have two domain names that I want to point to the same site install. So whether you go to name-one.com or name-two.com you see the exact same site. Now, I can either set up name-two.com to serve 301 redirect header redirecting to name-one.com – or, I can set up name-two.com as a CNAME in the DNS pointing to name-one.com What is the different implications for SEO on this? What is recommended? I would guess it's better for branding to use a 301 redirect, so that visitors will see one consistent url for my site, right? The reason I want the two domains is that I want a version with regional letters ('ö' instead of 'oe' ) in the name.

  I have a app I am packaging for ubuntu. I don't like the idea that if included in the ubuntu repositories I will have no control over updating that application. I don't want my users stuck on an out dated version for up to 6 months. I also do not want my users to have to manually add a PPA themselves to get updates as the target user will not have the technical know how to do this. Is it OK to have my .deb add a PPA on install. So that I can roll out stable updates to my ubuntu users.

I enter database information, which tests okay, and I choose the second option: Full mode: includes 100+ additional modules and demo products (FREE too!). • Youtube showing horizontal lines when full screen in google chrome

  First, im new in ubuntu so please bear with me. My google chrome shows strange behavior when playing youtube videos in full screen mode. There will be some horizontal white lines, which is exactly like when you playing the game without the vsync. I've checked firefox and the videos working perfectly in there. I also tried to play videos from my HDD using VLC player and its working fine. It seems the problem is in the google chrome alone. My version of ubuntu is 13.04, my laptop is asus n46vz and i use the latest release of google chrome. I've tried to ask google, but it seems he has no answer. Thanks for your time :D

• Monitor Display issue

  When booting I will have to boot maybe 3 or 4 times to get a screen that is not displayed diagonally or is not using the full screen width. Hardware specification: HP s7727c with AMD64 and NVIDIA chipsets and Insignia 22" monitor/TV. The Ubuntu version is 9.10 Karmic. I'd like to stay current with Ubuntu on this machine, but have gone down to 9.10 to get this described functioning. I tried higher versions and could not get past the "black screen" I think this issue is connected to the NVIDIA chipset/driver problem. I am a GUI user and I don't follow the other solutions posted which make use of the command line. I suppose if the command line solution could be given without making any assumptions of the receiving person's knowledge base, then even I and others like me, could implement it.   I have an Ubuntu box that I use for all sorts of things. One thing I really want to do is redirect a sub domain to a local script. For example thisbit.example.com should actually show the content from localhost/~USER/FAKE.thisbit.example.com/ which is a folder that Apache is running for me which contains a very simple PHP script which implements an offline version of a server script that I am testing against. But example.com should continue to behave normally as should notthisbit.example.com etc. Ideally I need to be able to switch from testing to live with minimal fuss when the time comes.

• Converting a WIndows Store App to Android

  I cross posted this from SO I'm very new to Xamarin. I have a few published Windows Store apps and want to convert them to Android. I'm attempting to use Xamarin for this. I'm just using the free version of Xamarin. Here's where I am so far: I am trying two apps - one was build with Monogame and one is just build on the WinRT framework. I have managed to get them both into Xamarin studio, basically by hacking the csproj files. I'm getting build errors because it's missing references. There does appear to be some equivalent Mono / .Net4 libraries, but things like Microsoft.Xna.Framework seem to be missing. So, my question is: am I going about this the right way and, if so, am I missing a step ("convert dependencies" or something)? If I'm not going about this the right way then how should I be doing this (I found very few online resources on this subject)?

  I am looking for an algorithm to simplify the meshes of buildings or similar structures. EDIT: I had made a comment that Hoppe's algorithm tends to make meshes more and more spherical with simplification. But, I am not sure about it, so am deleting the comment. Buildings in contrast should tend to become more and more rectangular with increasing simplification. The D3DX extensions for D3D in version 9.0 (d3dx9.lib) used to have classes to do progressive mesh simplification. • Ubuntu 12.04 crashes on startup for newer versions of Linux, possibly related to WiFi

  My computer gets to the screen with the Ubuntu logo and the orange/white dots, and then the screen goes black, spits out a lot of error messages, and cannot boot. (If it'd be helpful, I can take a photo of my screen in this state.) I've found I can successfully boot if my wireless card is turned off. As soon as I turn it on, my computer crashes with the same black screen of death. I can also successfully boot if I choose "Previous Linux Version" and select a few versions back (I think 3.0.6). Here are some relevant details about my setup: Ubuntu 12.04 Computer: Lenovo x230 Wireless: Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter Processor: Intel Core i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4 RAM: 16 GB of RAM Thank you!!!
