• iTunes 7 can't find iPod in PlayOnLinux using Ubuntu 12.04 Precise?

  I'm using 12.04 and the latest version of PlayOnLinux to run iTunes 7. I have my iPod 4th gen plugged in and the computer recognizes that it's mounted but it's not showing up in iTunes for me to do anything with it. I know there have been a lot of issues with being able to access your iDevices in iTunes from Linux when you're using a compatibility layer like PlayOnLinux or Wine (both of which I have), so it's recommended that I use Rhythmbox to back up my music etc. Which is fine, because that's part of what I need to do, but my primary need in trying to access my iPod in iTunes is that I need to remove my backup password so that I can jailbreak my iPod with the new Absinthe jailbreak. If there is some other way I can do this without iTunes you know of, I'd love to hear it. If not, what can I do?

• How to safely and painlessly switch from Kubuntu to Lubuntu?

  I've had Kubuntu installed for several years, updating from one major release to another, and now I think I'd like to try to switch to Lubuntu. But since my distribution is already tuned and shaped to satisfy my needs, I'd like not to get a fresh installation, but just purge kubuntu-desktop and install lubuntu-desktop. But when I execute sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop, it gives me an error of the following essence: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lubuntu-desktop : Depends: usb-modeswitch but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. So, I investigate the modeswitch problem and get The following packages have unmet dependencies: usb-modeswitch : Depends: usb-modeswitch-data (>= 20110227-1~) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. • For some reason I can't get ATI FGLRX Drivers to support 3D acceleration on Ubuntu 12.04

  I have an ATI 5650m and I've had 0 issues with 3D Acceleration in the past. I had to reinstall Ubuntu entirely, and now with the 12.6 drivers I get - One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system I can't seem to solve this issue. I installed the FGLRX drivers through the "alternate command line" guide on the Ubuntu Wiki including the instructions for getting 3D support. They seem to install but I get an error with vainfo libva: VA-API version 0.32.0 Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0 libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/fglrx_drv_video.so libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/fglrx_drv_video.so init failed libva: va_openDriver() returns -1 vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit I have tried help here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2014440 It's a bit frustrating as I can do basically nothing without 3D support. I can't use super + direction or super + w or even configure the Unity bar to be 32px. If anyone could help I'd appreciate that.

• Pinning ipython3 qtconlsole to launcher

  I've installed both ipython (which uses Python 2.7) and ipython3, and the respective qtconsole packages. Both work when I call them from the terminal like ipython qtconsole. However, when I search for them in the dash home, only the 2.7 versions (of both the shell and qtconsole) appear, as executables. Searching for ipython3 only yields the ipython3 file from /usr/bin. Changing to the "application lens" doesn't affect the results. Also, even if I can start both from the terminal, I can only pin the running 2.7 version to the launcher -- or, to be more exact, I can pin the v3 console, but the icon looks somehow blurred, and it doesn't start anything when I click it. So, whats happening here? Is the v3 package hidden somehow?

• Print jobs to Epson Stylus Photo 640 all stopped after upgrade 10.04 to 12.04

  Upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 on 19th oct 2012. Now all print jobs end up in the print queue with the label "Stopped". Reinstalled the printer driver - it is gutenberg 5.2.8 pre1. Looking at "http://localhost:631/jobs" shows an error message by each stopped job as follows:"The PPD version (5.2.5 Simplified) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1." Found a long bug-fixing history in bugs.launchpad.net which seem to imply that this problem has been fixed. It seems to be a problem with the installation not updating the ppd files. Is there any workaround to fix this problem?

• Website hacked, cpanel password not encrypted?

  Yesterday I found out that all the websites that are hosted on my webhosting site were hacked. I tried to change my password, and unbelievably, I COULD SEE my password there. This means my password is able to be decrypted. I asked customer support, and they say, its normal, CPanel saves the password like that. Is it true? I mean, cpanel password able to be decrypted? They blame me because my wordpress version is out of date. But 2 of my website are on different platforms. One made by CI and one by Wordpress, and all are hacked. Is this hosting reliable?

• What exactly is the build number in MAJOR.MINOR.BUILDNUMBER.REVISION

  What I think about Build Numbers is that whenever a new nightly build is created, a new BUILDNUMBER is generated and assigned to that build. So for my 7.0 version application the nightly builds will be 7.0.1, 7.0.2 and so on. Is it so? Then what is the use of a REVISION after the build number? Or is the REVISION part being incremented after each nightly build? I am a little confused here... do we refer to each nightly build as a BUILD? The format is mentioned here: AssemblyVersion - MSDN

• wireless not showing up in network manager applet.

  there is only the wired connection option available when the menu drops down. i have installed a belkin wireless g card for my desktop. it has been used before on this version of ubuntu 10.10, but after upgrading it shows only wired networks. enable networking and enable notifications have both been ticked. still only wired networks coming. im using ubuntu 10.10 maverick meerkat on my desktop comp and im an absolute begginer at ubuntu. can some one please help me re enable wireless on my comp?

• I'm working on my resume for a job fair this week; any tips? [closed]

  This will change as I update the document, but here is my resume. The job fair I'm going to is really huge (very good chance that it will determine where I intern this summer), so I would definitely appreciate any possible assistance in polishing this up. Any advice possible will be appreciated, ranging from spacing or absurdly minor formatting issues, to rearranging bullet points, to browser incompatibilities, to major changes in anything I've organised or written. At the moment, my only specific question is whether easter eggs are acceptable (specifically, if representatives who understand the reference will generally frown upon my inclusion of "Hacked The Gibson", given the context). Also, if anyone wants to evaluate it (e.g. font size, final arrangement, etc.), here is a PDF snapshot of the document at the time this question was submitted (the final version will have a different file name and appropriate metadata, for the record). • Broadcom bcm4313 Ubuntu 13.10 connection time out

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 I keep getting connection timed out every few seconds at which point i have to disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi network.   I'm currently trying to make a case for adopting dependency management for builds (ala Maven, Ivy, NuGet) and creating an internal repository for shared modules, of which we have over a dozen enterprise wide. What are the primary selling points of this build technique? The ones I have so far: Eases the process of distributing and importing shared modules, especially version upgrades. Requires the dependencies of shared modules to be precisely documented. Removes shared modules from source control, speeding and simplifying checkouts/check ins (when you have applications with 20+ libraries this is a real factor). Allows more control or awareness of what third party libs are used in your organization. Are there any selling points that I'm missing? Are there any studies or articles giving improvement metrics?

• Where to put git "remote" repo on purely local git setup?

  I overwrote and lost some important scripts and would like to setup version control to protect my stuff. I've used git before, and am familiar with commands, but don't understand where I would put my "remote" repository on an install set up on my own machine---the place I push/pull to. I don't intend to share or access remotely, I just want a little source control for my files. • And at what point of modification to the original does source code with no license become owned by me?

  I've recently come across a publicly viewable project on Github that has no license associated with it. In this repo, there is a file with the logic and most of the code needed to work as a piece of a project I am working on. Not verbatim, but about 60% of it I'd like to use with various modifications. Once my code base is a little bit more stable, I plan to release what I've done under the WTFPL License. I've emailed the repo owner, and so far have not gotten a reply. I know I have the rights to fork the repo, but if I release a stripped down and modified version of the other project's file with mine, under the WTFPL, am I infringing on copyrights? Per Github's Terms of Service, by submitted a project on Github and making it viewable to the public, you are allowing other users to see and fork your project. Doesn't say anything about modifying, distributing, or using the fork. And at what point of modification to the original does it become owned by me?

• "From the Coal Face" - 1 - What ILDASM can reveal!

  In a place far, far away, there was a project where the Architect decided on using embedded TSQL in a Dot Net application, rather than use stored procedures. I located ILDASM.EXE (my Framework 3.5 version lives at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin on my home development PC) and created a shortcut to it in the SendTo folder. Now I could set about doing a simple demonstration to the Architect by taking one of the Dot Net EXE's with the embedded TSQL and sending it to ILDASM.  Since I had written most of the embedded TSQL, it was a matter of seconds before I located the embedded TSQL within the Exe. The TSQL that was supposed to be safely hidden within the EXE was easily located and and copied. (It should also be noted that we could have encrypted the stored procedures on loading them to the database.)

However, that link is 404'd. Also tried http://ubuntuguide.org/images/UbuntuGuideSaucy.epub which also fails. So, where do we report Fail at ubuntuguide.org? I see nowhere there to so do. I have also tried, twice on separate days, to register there, but never get the confirmation email. Anyone have a suggestion?

• Connecting Ubuntu home server to internet via laptop

  I recently got a spare desktop computer from a relative to play around with and since I've been using Ubuntu for a few years I decided to install Ubuntu Server 12.04 to play around with and learn more. However it doesn't have a wireless card, the wireless adapter had a shipping error and will be awhile, and plugging it into the router is not an option. So I figured I could give it access to the wifi from my laptop(which I switch between Windows and Ubuntu) so I could at least get some things started and set up while I'm waiting for the adapter. However the few guides I can find to do that require a GUI, something lacking on the server version. Could someone tell me how to set this up via the terminal? I would appreciate it.

  I don't understand a lot about game engines and modules for Python, even though I'm aware of the existance of PyGame and Pyglets, so please don't bash me too hard if I'll wrote something wrong in this question :-) When I upgraded my Mac to the latest version of OS X, I noticed for the first time that Apple is providing a library named Sprite kit for developing games on both iOS and OS X. It looks to me fairly complete, and the fact is managed by a big company gives me the impression of being well-supported for the time being; in summary, it looks... cool. Actually in order to take advantage of "Sprite kit" you need to code in Obj-C. Since I don't know Obj-C but only a little bit of Python, do you think that there's a chance that sooner or later someone will make a wrapper for Python ? Thank you very much and best regards

I have listed the company in Google Business so it shows in the SERP and I have a Facebook and Twitter account linked, that I update regularly. I know keeping content fresh is important but nothing much changes so I am unsure what options I have? Should I create a blog and talk about the cars, weddings etc? I am totally unsure where to go with this website, the site currently has a few images and a small amount of text.   I'd like to create a new project with the Play! framework. My system is Mint 12 64bit. Since the newest version of Play! is already bundled with the typesafe-stack, I thought installation would be easy. I added the typesafe repo, then I apt-get updated and apt-get installed typesafe-stack with the command g8 typesafehub/play-scala. I successfully created a new project in my home folder. Now the problems begin: I don't know how to access Play! with this installation. After creating the project, I tried to convert it into an Eclipse project, it but there's no play command available in the terminal. How can I get a "standard" Play! installation on Linux? What happens to the tools bundled in the typesafe stack - Where do they go?
