  • Strange problem of wifi keeps droping every minute on Ubuntu 12.04

    I am running ubuntu 12.04 on my samsung laptop but the wifi connection keeps dropping every minute. I have another dell laptop which also has ubuntu 12.04 but wifi works fine on that. And if I use my samsung laptop at office as its my office laptop wifi works fine. So, I don't understand what the problem is. I have googled it and found solution like set ignoring IPv6 setting but that still does not make any difference. So I don't understand where the problem is if its with my network provider or its with my laptop. I can't blame my network provider as wifi works fine on my other devices including Ipad, mobiles and dell laptop. Even I can't say clearly that its problem with my laptop as wifi works fine in my office. Previously I had ubuntu 13.04 on my samsung laptop and I was having the same issue so I uninstall it and install 12.04 and issues is still the same.

I'm taking laptop 2 which is configured as static IP 192.168.1.10 and his configuration is not set in Ubuntu dhcpd.conf After laptop 2 is connected internet working. It is possible to do MAC filtering which disallow to connect PCs with address IP set as static but MAC address is not configured in Ubuntu (something like: intruder in network)?

    I want to permanently mount a few Windows shared folders. I googled that topic and found a lot of good answers, but with all the solutions I have a little problem: I believe I can't properly give an address of shared folder. I can find it following way: "Network" - "Windows Network" - "WORKGROUP_name" - "Computer_name" - and there is some folder i would like to mount. How can I write the path to the folders in terminal? UPD i can access needed folder throw address in location bar smb://server/ro/, but i try mount it by editing /etc/fstab file (using guide https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently) i get error mount error: could not resolve address for server: Unknown error PS in /etc/fstab : //SERVER/RO /media/server cifs username=user,password=pwd, uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0

    i am new to Ubuntu & just installed it on my DELL mini laptop, when i open the network tab it does not show the wireless networks around me, neither does it show mine, i have enabled networking but it still does not pick up any wireless. I am pretty sure my wireless network is not hidden, since i can connect to it on my other laptop, anyone have any idead on what i could be? It worked once when i was running Ubuntu on my USB, but when i installed it to the hard drive as a main OS it did not list any wireless networks.

    When I installed Ubuntu Server 12.04, I selected the ethernet adapter because I will use that most often; however, I would like to use wifi sometimes as well.     Hello, As weird as it seems to anyone who used it before, most of the time explorer view does not work until some steps to be followed, but in my case it was working and sometimes randomly not working ! After spending hours of troubleshooting and collecting logs, Network traces, Fiddler traces, etc. I reached the solution from the Network trace. Although it seems strange, it was sending a PROPFIND request to the root directory "/" which was actually deleted. So, I came up to this important article that states that you must have a root site collection in your SharePoint web application in order to keep it in a supported state. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2590564 And actually that explained it and solved the strange behavior as well. Is there any Ubuntu equivalent to this? I would really love to SSH into my Ubuntu server via my Ubuntu laptop, just by connecting one end of the male USB to my laptop, and another end of the male USB to my server. I know I can always SSH into my server via the network, but then in this case of mine, there are cases the server is inside a secluded-secured network server room, and the only way for me to check things out is to go into the server room and open the keyboard console and monitor there. But, if I can just bring my laptop inside and connect to the USB there, then that would be cool. Any idea guys?

  • Should the networking of my game be a component or a service?

    I am working on a windows game and I am trying to understand the XNA GameComponents and GameServices classes and use. From what I understand about a component is that it has an Update method that gets call in every frame, and a service can be referenced from other components if needed. So the way I think a network component would work is that in its Update method it would receive and send data. It probably makes sense to receive the network data once per frame, but it doesn't for sending it. Shouldn't the game send its own updates to others the moment it has it to cut down on lag?

  • IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

    I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project.   • Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter not working probperly - Code 31 on Host

    I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Hyper-V installed. From a "clean" Hyper-V configuration I open Virtual Switch Manager, create an External switch with "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter", click OK. Everything seems to work properly but the host loses network connectivity. Opening Device Manager, the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter" is shown under the Network Adapter section with a yellow triangle, and the following message: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) An object ID was not found in the file. I tried "Uninstalling" the device, seems to work, but the device doesn't actually remove. I tried removing and re-adding the Hyper-V feature completely, no difference. Tried scf /scannow, no problems. System and Application logs show no errors. The Hyper-V-VMMS Networking log shows the following: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Networking Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS Date: 10/24/2013 10:53:07 AM Event ID: 26088 Description: Failed to apply static IP settings to internal Ethernet adapter {A813DE9A-BE70-4FAE-AD31-BE4D54505A4B} ('885435B8-BE65-4EE9-826D-AB56035237ED'): Unspecified error (0x80004005). If I try to remove the Virtual Switch in Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager I get this in that same log: Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Networking Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS Date: 10/24/2013 11:19:47 AM Event ID: 26142 Description: Failed while removing virtual Ethernet switch. Trying to remove the Virtual Switch leads to an error: Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes Failed while removing virtual Ethernet switch. VM Networking does work.

  • Cannot connect with Cisco VPN but can connect with ShrewSoft VPN

    EDIT: We connected an air card to the computer to use a different Internet connection and using the Cisco software, we were able to successfully connect to our VPN server. I just don't understand why the ShrewSoft VPN client would connect but the Cisco connection won't. I'm not our network admin so sorry if I butcher some of the terminology. I have a computer at remote site that connects to our network through Cisco VPN. It uses the Cisco VPN software to do so. The problem is that the computer at this site cannot connect to our VPN because it is getting error "Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding." To see if perhaps something on their network was blocking the connection, I installed the ShrewSoft VPN client on the computer, imported our .pcf file and connected with no problem. I have tried two different versions of the Cisco VPN software (4.8.0.* and 5.0.03.*) and have the same problem. I installed Wireshark on the computer and have confirmed (while trying to connect through Cisco) that the computer is trying to contact the VPN server but is not receiving a response. We are not having any other problems regarding users not being able to connect. I'm at a loss at what else to check. I'll be monitoring this and have access to the computer at any time.
