• Where is the default language data stored in OS 10.6

  From a shell in 10.4 or 10.5, I was able to do this: /usr/bin/defaults read NSGlobalDomain AppleLanguages To get the list of the language preference for that particular machine. This was done so that I could restore it back to that list after changing it with the 'defaults write' command to something else (in order to help automate l10n testing). Now, along comes OS 10.6, and AppleLanguages is nowhere in any of our defaults domains. I know that I can alter it for each running application by altering their specific property lists...but at the cost of more complexity. Also, some of the apps I have under test here are installer packages...and It's a real pain to change stuff (like the .plist I'd have to change here) in those without being somewhat destructive; that's why I chose to do it globally in the first place. Anyways, it'd be great if I could find where they stashed it now...or if they deprecated it (like a zillion other things in OS 10.6) completely.

In the control flow I have three steps: Step 1: Select Data from Db1.Table1 Step 2: Create Table2 in Db2 Step 3: Copy Data in Db1.Table1 to Db2.Table2 If I "Execute Task" one by one in order, it executes fine...but if I try running the entire project I receive the following error: Error at Copy Data from Table1 to DB2 dbo Table2 Task [OLE DB Destination[40]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.   I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration... I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page. The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers. However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on. What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss. All comments greatly appreciated. Jason

  Hi, I have a header file in which there is a large struct. I need to read this structure using some program and make some operations on each member of the structure and write them back. • Using views as a data interface between modules in a database

  Hello, I am working on the database layout of a straighforward small database in Mysql. We want to modularize this system in order to have more flexiblity for different implementations we are going to make. Now, the idea was to have one module in the database (simple a group of tables with constraints between them) pass its data to the next module via views. In this way, changes in one module would not affect the other ones, as we can make sure in the view that the right data is present there at any time, although the underlying structure of tables might be different. The structure of the App handling the database would likewise be modularized. Is this something that is sometimes done? On a technical side, as I understand views can't have primary keys - how would I then adress such a view? What other issues should be considered?

• Enabling DNS for IPv6 infrastructure

  After successful automatic distribution of IPv6 address information via DHCPv6 in your local network it might be time to start offering some more services. Usually, we would use host names in order to communicate with other machines instead of their bare IPv6 addresses. During the following paragraphs we are going to enable our own DNS name server with IPv6 address resolving. This is the third article in a series on IPv6 configuration: Configure IPv6 on your Linux system DHCPv6: Provide IPv6 information in your local network Enabling DNS for IPv6 infrastructure Accessing your web server via IPv6 Piece of advice: This is based on my findings on the internet while reading other people's helpful articles and going through a couple of man-pages on my local system. What's your name and your IPv6 address? $ sudo service bind9 status * bind9 is running If the service is not recognised, you have to install it first on your system. This is done very easy and quickly like so: $ sudo apt-get install bind9 Once again, there is no specialised package for IPv6. Just the regular application is good to go. But of course, it is necessary to enable IPv6 binding in the options. Let's fire up a text editor and modify the configuration file. $ sudo nano /etc/bind/named.conf.optionsacl iosnet {        127.0.0.1;        192.168.1.0/24;        ::1/128;        2001:db8:bad:a55::/64;};listen-on { iosnet; };listen-on-v6 { any; };allow-query { iosnet; };allow-transfer { iosnet; }; Most important directive is the listen-on-v6. This will enable your named to bind to your IPv6 addresses specified on your system. Easiest is to specify any as value, and named will bind to all available IPv6 addresses during start. More details and explanations are found in the man-pages of named.conf. Save the file and restart the named service. As usual, check your log files and correct your configuration in case of any logged error messages. Eventually, you might be more familiar with the dig command. Here is the same kind of IPv6 host name resolve but it will provide more details about that particular host as well as the domain in general. $ dig @2001:db8:bad:a55::2 www.6bone.net. AAAA More details on the Berkeley Internet Name Domain (bind) daemon and IPv6 are available in Chapter 22.1 of Peter Bieringer's HOWTO on IPv6. Setting up your own DNS zone Now, that we have an operational named in place, it's about time to implement and configure our own host names and IPv6 address resolving. The general approach is to create your own zone database below the bind folder and to add AAAA records for your hosts. In order to achieve this, we have to define the zone first in the configuration file named.conf.local. $ sudo nano /etc/bind/named.conf.local //// Do any local configuration here//zone "ios.mu" {        type master;        file "/etc/bind/zones/db.ios.mu";}; Here we specify the location of our zone database file. Next, we are going to create it and add our host names, our IP and our IPv6 addresses. $ sudo nano /etc/bind/zones/db.ios.mu $ORIGIN .$TTL 259200     ; 3 daysios.mu                  IN SOA  ios.mu. hostmaster.ios.mu. Note: Each time you are going to change your zone databases you have to modify the serial information, too. Named loads the plain text zone definitions and converts them into an internal, indexed binary format to improve lookup performance. If you forget to change your serial then named will not use the new records from the text file but the indexed ones. Or you have to flush the index and force a reload of the zone. This can be done easily by either restarting the named: $ sudo service bind9 restart or by reloading the configuration file using the name server control utility - rndc: $ sudo rndc reconfig Check your log files for any error messages and whether the new zone database has been accepted. Next, we are going to resolve a host name trying to get its IPv6 address like so: $ host -t aaaa server.ios.mu. 2001:db8:bad:a55::2Using domain server:Name: 2001:db8:bad:a55::2Address: 2001:db8:bad:a55::2#53Aliases: server.ios.mu has IPv6 address 2001:db8:bad:a55::2 Looks good. Alternatively, you could have just ping'd the system as well using the ping6 command instead of the regular ping: $ ping6 serverPING server(2001:db8:bad:a55::2) 56 data bytes64 bytes from 2001:db8:bad:a55::2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.615 ms64 bytes from 2001:db8:bad:a55::2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.407 ms^C--- ios1 ping statistics ---2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1001msrtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.407/0.511/0.615/0.104 ms That also looks promising to me. How about your configuration? Next, it might be interesting to extend the range of available services on the network. One essential service would be to have web sites at hand.

• How to align MDIChild on left?

  Hi, I am trying hard to align MDIChild form to the left of the parent MDIForm setting Align:=alLeft at design time. Aparently aligned MDIChild is higher than parents client area (I do not know why), thats why vertical scrollbar appears on parent form. The problem is, that I want this form create dynamicaly; putting vertical Splitter between these MDIchild forms, in order to size them by mouse. But when I create Splitter it aligns itself totaly on the left, as if MDIChild form was not aligned (alLeft) at all. I set MDIChild parameters to: Align:=alLeft; Windowstate:=wsNormal; Borderstyle:=bsSizable; Does anybody solved this problem before? thanx a lot P.S Delphi 7, Win XP

  I've got a web application that, for performance reasons, throws any data sent into a logfile. I've got two concerns with this approach: How do I best rotate logs, in order to not lose data? For each user session multiple requests are logged. Each request has a unique id so there is an easy way for me to tie the requests to the session. The problem is, however, that if I rotate the logs I risk ending up with one request in one log and another request in another log. How do I arrange my parsing in a way that allows me to parse all requests from a given session? I am willing to define a session timelimit, for example that the requests must, at maximum be 30 minutes apart. If I had a hourly log rotation at 00 minutes: What if the user made one request at 13:59 and one at 14:01 - The user would end up having requests in two different logs.

• Recommendations on Triming Large Amounts of Text from a DOM Object

  I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

• double left MYSQL join?

  I've been trying left joins but as there are 2 joins, i think the problem is the 2nd join roots from table_B not table_A. i am not getting any results where there is the required data in the db. • Does Eclipse Ganymede have a mouse-click bug in the Navigator view?

  I've had to downgrade from Galileo to Ganymede in order to use the version of the FlexBuilder plugin that we are licensed for. Since the downgrade, I have several times accidentally dragged files or entire folders from one part of my project into another (or even into another project). I blamed this on fatfingers the first couple times, but I just now watched it do it to me on what I definitely know to have been a single left click on the folder that the file ended up moving to. Does anybody know if this is a known issue with Ganymede?

• Error using CreateFileMapping - C

  Hello, I am using the tutorial on this MSDN link to implement a way of transferring data from one process to another. Although I was advised in an earlier question to use the Pipe methods, due to certain constraints I have no choice but to use the CreateFileMapping method. Now, i've succesfully managed to make two seperate window form projects within the same solution and by editing some properties both of the forms load at the same time. Furthermore I have managed to implement the code given in the MSDN sample into the first (Producer) and second (Consumer) program without any compilation errors. The problem I am having now is when I run the first program and try to create the handle to the mapped file, I am given an error saying it was unsuccesful and I do not understand why this is happening. I have added both the Producer and Consumer code files to demonstrate what I am trying to do. When i do: DataGridView.Rows[e.RowIndex] I get proper row from collection. But when I click at a header of a column to sort it by other column than default one and user DataGridView.Rows[e.RowIndex] I get unproper row. It is because Rows collection do not reflect order of rows in DataGridView. So how to get propert DataGridViewRow from RowIndex in DataGridView?

• What should be done first: Code reviews or Unit tests?

  Hello, If a developer implements code for some module and wants to get it reviewed. What should be the order : *First unit test the module after designing test cases for the module, debugging and fixing the bugs and then give the modified code for peer code review (Pros- Code to be reviewed is 'clean' to a good extent. Reduces some avoidable review comments and rework. Cons- Developer might spend large time debugging/fixing a bug which could have pointed/anticipated in peer code reviews) Or *First do the code review with peers and then go for unit testing. What are your thoughts/experience on this? I believe this approach for unit testing, code reviewing should be programming language agnostic, but it would be interesting to know otherwise(if applicable) with specific examples. -AD

  I would now like to expand a little on what I stumbled through in part I of my Visual Studio 2010 post and touch on a few other features of VS 2010.  Specifically, I want to generate some code based off of an Entity Framework model and tie it up to an actual data source.  Im not going to take the easy way and tie to a SQL Server data source, though, I will tie it to an XML data file instead.  Why?  Well, why not?  This is purely for learning, there are probably much better ways to get strongly-typed classes around XML but it will force us to go down a path less travelled and maybe learn a few things along the way.  Once we get this XML data and the means to interact with it, I will revisit data binding to this data in a WPF form and see if I cant get reading, adding, deleting, and updating working smoothly with minimal code.  To begin, I will use what was learned in the first part of this blog topic and draw out a data model for the MFL (My Football League) - I dont want the NFL to come down and sue me for using their name in this totally football-related article.  The data model looks as follows, with Teams having Players, and Players having a position and statistics for each season they played: Note that when making the associations between these entities, I was given the option to create the foreign key but I only chose to select this option for the association between Player and Position.  The reason for this is that I am picturing the XML that will contain this data to look somewhat like this: <MFL> <Position/> <Position/> <Position/> <Team>     <Player>         <Statistic/>     </Player> </Team> </MFL> Statistic will be under its associated Player node, and Player will be under its associated Team node no need to have an Id to reference it if we know it will always fall under its parent.  Position, however, is more of a lookup value that will not have any hierarchical relationship to the player.  In fact, the Position data itself may be in a completely different xml file (something Id like to play around with), so in any case, a player will need to reference the position by its Id. So now that we have a simple data model laid out, I would like to generate two things based on it:  A class for each entity with properties corresponding to each entity property An IO class with methods to get data for each entity, either all instances, by Id or by parent. Now my experience with code generation in the past has consisted of writing up little apps that use the code dom directly to regenerate code on demand (or using tools like CodeSmith).  Surely, there has got to be a more fun way to do this given that we are using the Entity Framework which already has built-in code generation for SQL Server support.  Lets start with that built-in stuff to give us a base to work off of.  Right click anywhere in the canvas of our model and select Add Code Generation Item: So just adding that code item seemed to do quite a bit towards what I was intending: It apparently generated a class for each entity, but also a whole ton more.  I mean a TON more.  Way too much complicated code was generated now that code is likely to be a black box anyway so it shouldnt matter, but we need to understand how to make this work the way we want it to work, so lets get ready to do some stumbling through that text template (tt) file. When I open the .tt file that was generated, right off the bat I realize there is going to be trouble there is no color coding, no intellisense no nothing!  That is going to make stumbling through more like groping blindly in the dark while handcuffed and hopping on one foot, which was one of the alternate titles I was considering for this blog.  Thankfully, the community comes to my rescue and I wont have to cast my mind back to the glory days of coding in VI (look it up, kids).  Using the Extension Manager (Available under the Tools menu), I did a quick search for tt editor in the Online Gallery and quickly found the Tangible T4 Editor: Downloading and installing this was a breeze, and after doing so I got some color coding and intellisense while editing the tt files.  If you will be doing any customizing of tt files, I highly recommend installing this extension.  Next, well see if that is enough help for us to tweak that tt file to do the kind of code generation that we wantDid you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • PHP getimagesize with ampersand in string creates errors

  I'm using the getimagesize function in PHP, and the path string contains an ampersand, which otherwise is fine. The page gives me errors where getimagesize() is called. Looking at the source code, though, I see the ampersand is being passed through as & rather than just & I presume this is causing errors because PHP doesn't need to convert it to the html tag in order to find the path, right? Here is the error: Warning: getimagesize(image.php?name=username&pic=picture) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory

• So does Apple recommend to not use predicates and sort descriptors in an NSFetchRequest?

  From the docs: To summarize, though, if you execute a fetch directly, you should typically not add Objective-C-based predicates or sort descriptors to the fetch request. Instead you should apply these to the results of the fetch. If you use an array controller, you may need to subclass NSArrayController so you can have it not pass the sort descriptors to the persistent store and instead do the sorting after your data has been fetched. I don't get it. What's wrong with using them on fetch requests? Isn't it stupid to get back a whole big bunch of managed objects just to pick out a 1% of them in memory, leaving 99% garbage floating around? Isn't it much better to only fetch from the persistent store what you really need, in the order you need it? Probably I did get that wrong...

• C -Segmentation fault !

  It seems at least weird to me... The program runs normally.But after I call the enter() function for the 4th time,there is a segmentation fault!I would appreciate any help.
