I heard that ZFS did not yet support shrinking pools by removing drives/mirrors. But that has probably been changed. Which version (if any) released the ability to shrink a pool?

In this app, I need to specify the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH = /usr/local/oracle/lib But when I run the app with sudo script/server, it doesn't run because that library path is not in roots' env. What should I do to make it work? I tried to put the path under root ./bashrc and it didn't work.

• Why can't we reach some (but not all) external web service via VPN connection?

  At work (UK university) we use a set of Windows servers running WS2008R2 and RRAS which offer VPN service to students in our accommodation. We do this to associate the network connections with individuals. Before they've connected to the VPN all they can talk to is the stuff thats needed to setup the VPN and a local web site with documentation on how to connect. Medium term we'll probably replace this but it's what we're using at the moment. VPN on the 2008 servers allocates client a private (10.x) address. Access to external sites is through NAT on the campus routers (same as any other directly connected client on a private address). Non-VPN connections aren't seeing this problem. Older servers run WS 2003 and ISA2004. That setup works but has become unreliable under load. Big difference there was that we were allocating non-RFC1918 addresses to the clients (so no NAT required). Behaviour we're seeing is that once connected to the VPN, clients can reach local web sites (that is sites on the campus network) but only some external sites. It seems (but this may be chance) that the sites we can reach are Google ones (including YouTube). We certainly have trouble reaching Microsoft's Office 365 service (which is a pain because that's where mail for most of our students is). One odd bit of behaviour is that clients can fetch (using wget on a Windows 7 client) http://www.oracle.com/ (which gets a 301 redirect) but hangs when asked to fetch http://www.oracle.com/index.html (which is what the first URL redirects to). Access works reliably if we configure clients to use our local web proxies (Squid). My gut tells me that this is likely to be something in the chain dropping replies either based on HTTP inspection or the IP address in the reply. However I'm puzzled about why we're seeing this with the VPN clients. Plan for tomorrow (when I'm back in the office) is to setup a web server on external connection so that we can monitor behaviour at both ends of the conversation (hoping that the problem manifests itself with our test server). Any suggestions for things we should be looking at?

• When RAID 10 is SLOWER than RAID 1, why?

  We have a Dell 2950 with PERC and 14 external SAS 15K 73GB drives. An Oracle database job takes 3 hours to run with the drives set as hardware RAID 10 (striped across 7 mirrored pairs). The same job with the drives in RAID 1 takes only 1 hour. OS is Win 2008 R2 I think. Before we change the RAID level (with considerable downtime) on the production box, does anyone know why we're seeing this odd result, and if there's a better way to fix it?

• Losing connection to server from several computers

  I have a PostgreSQL server running Oracle Linux. In my network I have several workstations each running different OS (Fedora, Ubuntu, Windows). Every once in a while I lose connection from the several workstations to the server while other workstations can connect with no problem. If I do service network restart from the server the problem is solved and everyone can work until the next time it returns. Any clues? Thank you, Ben.

• Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

  I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake? • Wireless is detected, but not connecting. Ethernet works. How to correct the wireless address?

  I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with cable internet, and my wireless is detected and connected, but I cannot connect to the internet. I know the problem is with my machine because other machines are connecting to the same router just fine. I can connect via ethernet just fine as well. Here are some notable tests: ping 192.168.0.105 works with 0% packet loss, but ping 192.168.0.1 has 100% packet loss. When I plug in my ethernet, ping 192.168.0.1 works with 0% packet loss. My wireless name is tg, and the router ip is 192.168.0.1 (where I can enter username and password). I suspect that I need to change my wireless address from 192.168.0.105 to 192.168.0.1.   I have had chronic slow wifi connections on several networks for a while now, I think since my update to 12.04 when it came out. I have tried many of the tips and tricks already available out there in the forums with no luck (wicd, etc..). I want to see if any of you experts out there might be able to help me, and thanks in advance!! I use ubuntu 12.04 on a lenovo ideapad y650, and most networks I connect to lose the connection frequently or do not give appropriate bandwidth when I am connected. • asp.net does not Redirect when in frameset

  I have developed an application on asp.net. I uploaded it to my host. lets say http://myhost/app. My manager wrapped this address into an empty frameset on http://anotherhost/somename and sets the src of frame to http://myhost/ap. And so nobody can login. When the button is hit, it posts back (browser loads stuff, progress bar fills up and ends) but nothing happens. Does not redirect. (I have set IE to alwaysAllowCookies and it now does work, but other people still cannot) I think there is something that I have no clue about framesets and ASP.NET ps: I never use frames but could not convince my manager in doing so.   I'm trying to do some scripting that edits a binary plist file. The plist describes the objects contained in a DVD studio pro file. It appears that a text box in DVD studio pro is encoded in the plist as hex data that describes the text string along with its formatting. I can't seem to figure out how to understand this data. Ideally, I'd like to be able to alter the text string but not the formatting. The following seems to describe a text box that says "Menu title here". There are two hex strings, one with the key called "dictionary" and the other called "string"; both are CFData. Any ideas how I can parse this or convert this into a format that I can edit directly?   I am testing PayPal payments through Sandbox. So what do I do: Make a payment from my Android device, using SDK AppID: "APP-80W284485P519543T". Receive RESULT_OK in applicationResult and receive response on server side through IPN service. Now I am taking all responce from IPN and send it to paypal verification sandbox server to verify payment. It cat return (VERIFIED or INVALID). But the problem is that it is return INVALID. • How to delete ProgIDs from other user accounts when uninstalling from Windows?

  I've been investigating "how should a modern windows c++ application register its file types" with Windows (see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2828637/c-how-do-i-correctly-register-and-unregister-file-type-associations-for-our-ap). And having combed through the various MSDN articles on the subject, the summary appears to be as follows: The installer (elevated) should register the global ProgID HKLM\Software\Classes\my-app.my-doc[.version] (e.g. HKLM\Software\Classes\TextPad.text) The installer also configures default associations for its document types (e.g. .myext) and points this to the aforementioned global ProgID in HKLM. NOTE: a user interface should be provided here to allow the user to either accept all default associations, or to customize which associations should be set. The application, running standard (unelevated), should provide a UI for allowing the current user to set their personal associations as is available in the installer, except that these associations are stored in HKCU\Software\Classes (per user, not per machine). The UN-installer is then responsible for deleting all registered ProgIDs (but should leave the actual file associations alone, as Windows is smart enough to handle associations pointing to missing ProgIDs, and this is the specified desired behavior by MSDN). So that schema sounds reasonable to me, except when I consider #4: How does an uninstaller, running elevated for a given user account, delete any per-user ProgIDs created in step #3 for other users? As I understand things, even in elevated mode, an uninstaller cannot go into another user's registry hive and delete items? Or can it? Does it have to load each given user hive first? • Mechanize form submit not going to the correct response page, no errors as to why. Something I'm doing?

  I threw this all in one controller for testing purposes. My code fills out the form correctly for adding a new address to your Amazon account. There are two buttons that submit this form, one takes you to add a new address which is what I don't want, and the other is just a Save & Continue input/image. When I submit the form via that button, as I do below, the form is still on the page, filled out as I have with my code. Inspecting the page titles, they're the same. There are no discernible errors that Mechanize or Amazon spit back.
