• Choosing a VS project type (C++)

  Hi all, I do not use C++ much (I try to stick to the easier stuff like Java and VB.NET), but the lately I have not had a choice. When I am picking a project type in VS for some C++ source I download, what project type should I pick? I had just been sticking with Win32 Console Applications, but I just downloaded some code (below) that will not work right even when it compiles with out errors. I have tried to use a CLR Console Application and an empty project too, and have changed many variables along the way, but I cannot get this code to work. I noticed that this code does not have "int main()" at its beginning, does that have something to do with it? • How to Edit or Add a New Row in jqGrid

  My jqGrid that does a great job of pulling data from my database, but I'm having trouble understanding how the Add New Row functionality works. Right now, I'm able to edit inline data, but I'm not able to create a new row using the Modal Box. I'm missing that extra logic that says, "If this is a new row, post this to the server side URL" instead of modifying existing data. (Right now, hitting Submit only clears the form and reloads the grid data.) The documentation states that Add New Row is: jQuery("#editgrid").jqGrid('editGridRow',"new",{height:280,reloadAfterSubmit:false}); but I'm not sure how to use that correctly. I've spent alot of time studying the Demos, but they seem to all use an external button to fire the new row command, rather than using the Modal Form, which I want to do. • Add collection or array to wpf resource dictionary

  I've search high and low and can't find an answer to this. I have two questions How do you create an array or collection in XAML. I've got an array I want to stick in there and bind to a combo box. My first idea was to put an ItemsControl in a resource dictionary, but the ItemsSource of a combo box expects IEnumerable so that didn't work. Here's what I've tried in my resource dictionary and neither works <ItemsControl x:Key="stateList"> <sys:String>AL</sys:String> <sys:String>CA</sys:String> <sys:String>CN</sys:String> </ItemsControl> <ItemsControl x:Key="stateList2"> <ComboBoxItem>AL</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>CA</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>CN</ComboBoxItem> </ItemsControl> and here's how I bind to it <ComboBox SelectedValue="{Binding Path=State}" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource stateList2}}" > </ComboBox> EDIT: UPDATED I got this first part to work this way <col:ArrayList x:Key="stateList3"> <sys:String>AL</sys:String> <sys:String>CA</sys:String> <sys:String>CN</sys:String> </col:ArrayList> However, I'd rather not use an array list, I'd like to use a generic list so if anyone knows how please let me know. EDIT UPDATE: I guess XAML has very limited support for generics so maybe an array list is the best I can do for now, but I would still like help on the second question if anyone has an anser 2nd. I've tried referencing a merged resource dictionary in my XAML and had problems because under Window.resources I had more than just the dictionary so it required me to add x:Key. Once I add the key, the system can no longer find the items in my resource dictionary. I had to move the merged dictionary to Grid.Resources instead. Ideally I'd like to reference the merged dictionary in the app.xaml but I have the same problem Here's some sample code.   I have been strugging with this for a while, it would have been simple to do in WindowForms. I am making a IRC Client, there will be a number of Tabs one for each channel connect to. Each Tab needs to show a number of things, UserList, MessageHistory, Topic. In WindowForms i would just have inherited from TabItem, added some Custom Properties, and Controls, and done. In WPF i am having some slight issues with working out how to do it. • ASP.NET 4.0 UpdatePanel and UserControl with PlaceHolder

  I don't know if this is ASP.NET 4.0 specific but I don't recall having this problem in previous versions. I have very simple user control called "TestModal" that contains a PlaceHolder control which I use to instantiate a template in. When I put an UpdatePanel inside this UserControl on the page the updatepanel only does full postbacks and not partial postbacks. What gives? • Drawing a clamped uniform cubic B-spline using Cairo

  I have a bunch of coordinates which are the control points of a clamped uniform cubic B-spline on the 2D plane. I would like to draw this curve using Cairo calls (in Python, using Cairo's Python bindings), but as far as I know, Cairo supports Bézier curves only. I also know that the segments of a B-spline between two control points can be drawn using Bézier curves, but I can't find the exact formulae anywhere. Given the coordinates of the control points, how can I derive the control points of the corresponding Bézier curves? Is there any efficient algorithm for that?

• Visual Studio 2013, ASP.NET MVC 5 Scaffolded Controls, and Bootstrap

  A few days ago, I created an ASP.NET MVC 5 project in the brand new Visual Studio 2013. I added some model classes and then proceeded to scaffold a controller class and views using the Entity Framework. Scaffolding Some Views Visual Studio 2013, by default, uses the Bootstrap 3 responsive CSS framework. Great; after all, we all want our web sites to be responsive and work well on mobile devices. Here’s an example of a scaffolded Create view as shown in Google Chrome browser   Looks pretty good. Okay, so let’s increase the width of the Title, Description, Address, and Date/Time textboxes. And decrease the width of the  State and MaxActors textbox controls. Can’t be that hard… Digging Into the Code Let’s take a look at the scaffolded Create.cshtml file. Here’s a snippet of code behind the Create view. Not sure the motivation behind this, but until you change this or overrride this by assigning the form controls to some other CSS class, your controls will never be able to be wider than 280px. The Fix Okay, so here’s the deal: I hope to become very competent in all things Bootstrap in the near future, but I don’t think you should have to become a Bootstrap guru in order to modify some scaffolded control widths. And you don’t. Here is the solution I came up with: Find the aforementioned CSS code in SIte.css and change it to something more tenable. Such as: /* Set width on the form input elements since they're 100% wide by default */ input, select, textarea { max-width: 600px; } Because the @Html.EditorFor html helper doesn’t support the passing of HTML attributes, you will need to repalce any @Html.EditorFor() helpers with @Html.TextboxFor(), @Html.TextAreaFor, @Html.CheckBoxFor, etc. helpers, and then add a custom width attribute to each control you wish to modify. • How to Troubleshoot TFS Build Server Failure?

  Ever found your self in this helpless situation where you think you have tried every possible suggestion on the internet to bring the build server back but it just won’t work. Well some times before hunting around for a solution it is important to understand what the problem is, if the error messages in the build logs don’t seem to help you can always enable tracing on the build server to get more information on what could possibly be the root cause of failure. In this blog post today I’ll be showing you how to enable tracing on, - TFS 2010/11 Server - Build Server - Client Enable Tracing on Team Foundation Server 2010/2011 On the Team Foundation Server navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Application Tier\Web Services, right click web.config and from the context menu select edit.          Search for the <appSettings> node in the config file and set the value of the key ‘traceWriter’ to true.          In the <System.diagnostics> tag set the value of switches from 0 to 4 to set the trace level to maximum to write diagnostics level trace information.          Restart the TFS Application pool to force this change to take effect. The application pool restart will impact any one using the TFS server at present. Note - It is recommended that you do not make any changes to the TFS production application server, this can have serious consequences and can even jeopardize the installation of your server.          Download the Debug view tool from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx and set it to capture “Global Events”. Perform any actions in the Team Explorer on the client machine, you should be able to see a series of trace data in the debug view tool now.         Enable Tracing on Build Controller/Agents Log on to the Build Controller/Agent and Navigate to the directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Tools         Look for the configuration file ‘TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.config’ if it is not already there create a new text file and rename it to ‘TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.config’         To Enable tracing uncomment the <system.diagnostics> and paste the snippet below if it is not already there. <configuration> <system.diagnostics> <switches> <add name="BuildServiceTraceLevel" value="4"/> </switches> <trace autoflush="true" indentsize="4"> <listeners> <add name="myListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TeamFoundationTextWriterTraceListener, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" initializeData="c:\logs\TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.log" /> <remove name="Default" /> </listeners> </trace> </system.diagnostics> </configuration> The highlighted path above is where the Log file will be created. If the folder is not already there then create the folder, also, make sure that the account running the build service has access to write to this folder.         Restart the build Controller/Agent service from the administration console (or net stop tfsbuildservicehost & net start tfsbuildservicehost) in order for the new setting to be picked up.         Enable TFS Tracing on the Client Machine On the client machine, shut down Visual Studio, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common 7\IDE          Search for devenv.exe.config, make a backup copy of the config file and right click the file and from the context menu select edit. If its not already there create this file.          Edit devenv.exe.config by adding the below code snippet before the last </configuration> tag <system.diagnostics> <switches> <add name="TeamFoundationSoapProxy" value="4" /> <add name="VersionControl" value="4" /> </switches> <trace autoflush="true" indentsize="3"> <listeners> <add name="myListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TeamFoundationTextWriterTraceListener,Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" initializeData="c:\tf.log" /> <add name="perfListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.PerfTraceListener, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> </listeners> </trace> </system.diagnostics> The highlighted path above is where the Log file will be created.   Hi, I'm new to WPF and in the spirit of trying to do things the correct way have tried to implement MVVM in my application. I've made use of the frequently mentioned article by Josh Smith, and apart from making me realise how little I know, it has left me a little stumped. Specifically, I have a page that uses the RelayCommand object to handle a button directly on the page and this is fine. However, the button (save) will ultimately be on a user control that will also contain other buttons and the control will be used on a number of pages. My question is this; how do I relay the command from the user control to the page (ie viewmodel) containing it? If I bind to the command public ICommand SaveCommand { get { if (_saveCommand == null) { _saveCommand = new RelayCommand( param => this.Save(), param => this.CanSave ); } return _saveCommand; } } on the user control, I would need to use a Save method on the user control itself, when in fact I should be handling it on the viewmodel. Can anyone help?

• Adding Volcanos and Options - Earthquake Locator, part 2

• Pass data to Master Page with ASP.NET MVC

  I have a hybrid ASP.NET WebForms/MVC project. In my Master Page, I have a "menu" User Control and a "footer" User Control. Anyways. I need to pass some data (2 strings) to my "menu" User Control on my Master Page (to select the current tab in my menu navigation, etc.) My views are strongly-typed to my data model. How can I push data from my controller to my menu or at least allow my master page to access some data pre-defined in my controller? Note: I understand this violates pure ASP.NET MVC, but like I said, it is a hybrid project. The main purpose of my introduction to ASP.NET MVC into my project was to have more control over my UI for certain situations only.

As can be seen from the xaml, I've decided that it makes sense for me to try to use Commands as a way to handle various operations that the user can perform with Tasks. I'm doing this with the eventual goal of factoring all command logic into a more formally-defined Controller layer, but I'm trying to refactor one step at a time. The problem that I'm encountering is related to the interaction between the command in the UserControl's ContextMenu and the command's CanExecute, defined in the Window. When the application first starts and the saved Tasks are restored into TaskStopwatches on the Window, no actual UI elements are selected. If I then immediately r-click a UserControl in the Window in an attempt to execute the ViewTaskProperties command, the CanExecute handler never runs and the menu item remains disabled. If I then click some UI element (e.g., the button) just to give something focus, the CanExecute handlers are run with the CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs's Source property set to the UI element that has the focus. • WPF Navigation Page Breadcrumb

  I found code to use a breadcrumb instead of the navigation buttons for my pages. This code works perfect with setting a page as the startup. My problem is that I need to have a window with a frame control as the startup and this is causing the breadcrumb to not show at all. I seem to be missing something with my styling.
