• Capture Silverlight 4 event when panel clicked

  I have a small Silverlight 4 app that essentially consists of a grid containing a label and a combo box. When I click the label, I replace it with a second text box so that I can edit the label (much the way you can edit the name of a Silverlight control in VS2010). I have a LostFocus event handler on the text box that will end editing when the control loses focus (restoring the updated label). Trouble is, users tend to click on the panel when they are done editing rather than on another control (or hitting Enter, which is also supported). I tried adding a left mouse down event handler to the panel. However, that only fires when the text box does not have the focus (I guess the text box captured the mouse?) Is there an approach to recognize that a non-input control was clicked that would enable me to terminate edit mode?

• Custom UserControl property not being set via XAML DataBinding in Silverlight 4

  I have a custom user control called GoalProgressControl. Another user control contains GoalProgressControl and sets its GoalName attribute via databinding in XAML. However, the GoalName property is never set. When I check it in debug mode GoalName remains "null" for the control's lifetime. How do I set the GoalName property? Is there something I am doing incorrectly? I am using .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4. I am relatively new to XAML and Silverlight so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attempted to change GoalProgressControl.GoalName into a POCO property but this causes a Silverlight error, and my reading leads me to believe that databound properties should be of type DependencyProperty. I've also simplified my code to just focus on the GoalName property (the code is below) with no success. Also, if I replace the "GoalName" property above with a simple text string (ex "hello world"), the control renders correctly and "hello world" is shown on the control when it renders.

• Activate a (COM Interop based) ActiveX contol using registration free com

  I have a (COM Interop based) ActiveX contol that I am trying to use with registration free com. When the control loads the control is inactive (does not responds to events, control not fully rendered etc). After much search I discovered that COM objects using reg-free-com use the miscStatus attribute to set the initial state to get correctly activated. I know how to use it with a comClass which corresponds to a native COM Object. 1) What is the equivalent of the following for clrClass element which corresponds to a COM-interop object? <comClass clsid="{qqqqqqqq-wwww-eeee-rrrr-00C0F0283628}" tlbid="{xxxxxxxx-yyyy-zzzz-aaaa-0000F8754DA1}" threadingModel="Both" progid="SomeCompany.SomeOleControl" description="Some ActiveX Control" miscStatus="recomposeonresize,insideout,activatewhenvisible,nouiactivate" > 2) The COM client I am using is Visual FoxPro. If the (1) is not possible what can I do in VFP to activate the inactive ActiveX control. • Running Multiple Queries in Oracle SQL Developer

  There are two methods for running queries in SQL Developer: Run Statement Run Statement, Shift+Enter, F9, or this button Run Script No grids, just script (SQL*Plus like) ouput is fine, thank you very much! What’s the Difference? There are some obvious differences between the two features, the most obvious being the format of the output delivered. But there are some other, more subtle differences here, primarily around fetching. What is Fetch? After you run send your query to Oracle, it has to do 3 things: Parse Execute Fetch Technically it has to do at least 2 things, and sometimes only 1. But, to get the data back to the user, the fetch must occur. If you have a 10 row query or a 1,000,000 row query, this can mean 1 or many fetches in groups of records. Ok, before I went on the Fetch tangent, I said there were two ways to run statements in SQL Developer: Run Statement Run statement brings your query results to a grid with a single fetch. The user sees 50, 100, 500, etc rows come back, but SQL Developer and the database know that there are more rows waiting to be retrieved. The process on the server that was used to execute the query is still hanging around too. To alleviate this, increase your fetch size to 500. Every query ran will come back with the first 500 rows, and rows will be continued to be fetched in 500 row increments. You’ll then see most of your ad hoc queries complete with a single fetch. Scroll down, or hit Ctrl+End to force a full fetch and get all your rows back. Run Script Run Script runs the contents of the worksheet (or what’s highlighted) as a ‘script.’ What does that mean exactly? Think of this as being equivalent to running this in SQL*Plus: @my_script.sql; Each statement is executed. Also, ALL rows are fetched. So once it’s finished executing, there are no open cursors left around. The more obvious difference here is that the output comes back formatted as plain old text. Run one or more commands plus SQL*Plus commands like SET and SPOOL The Trick: Run Statement Works With Multiple Statements! It says ‘run statement,’ but if you select more than one with your mouse and hit the button – it will run each and throw the results to 1 grid for each statement. If you mouse hover over the Query Result panel tab, SQL Developer will tell you the query used to populate that grid. This will work regardless of what you have this preference set to: DATABASE – WORKSHEET – SHOW QUERY RESULTS IN NEW TABS Mind the fetch though! Close those cursors by bring back all the records or closing the grids when you’re done with them.

  I'm testing a non visual ActiveX control based on a registered .ocx which I import into Delphi using the provided wizard. Then, I simply put the generated component on the main form of a new VCL application. Under old Delphi versions (D5 and D2007), when i launch the application, this raise an AV during the component initialization. with Delphi 2009 : no problem, the application starts smoothly. My questions are : Are there known enhancements of ActiveX management in recent Delphi versions which can explain this difference ? Can I suspect a bug in the ActiveX control, or can I consider the origin of the problem is from old Delphi versions ? I need to use this component (if tests OK) in D2007. Do you think that it is possible to correct the AV problem under D2007 by modifying the D2007 generated .tlb file (for example by trying to use the D2009 generated one) PS: the ActiveX control is not named, because my question is a general question about Delphi and ActiveX, not about a specific ActiveX control.

• Clusterware 11gR2 &ndash; Setting up an Active/Passive failover configuration

  Oracle provides many interesting ways to ensure High Availability. Dataguard configurations, RAC configurations or even both (as recommended for a Maximum Available Architecture - MAA) are the most frequently found. But when it comes to protecting a system with an Active/Passive architecture with failover capabilities, one often thinks to expensive third party cluster systems. Oracle Clusterware technology, which comes free with Oracle Database, is – in the knowing of most people - often linked to Oracle RAC and therefore, is rarely used to implement failover solutions. 11gR2 Clusterware – which is part of Oracle Grid Infrastructure - provides a comprehensive framework to setup automatic failover configurations. It is actually possible to make “failover-able'” and, therefore to protect, almost every kind of application (from xclock to the more complex Application Server) In the next couple of lines, I will try to present the different steps to achieve this goal : Have a fully operational 11gR2 database protected by automatic failover capabilities. I assume you are fluent in installing Oracle Database 11gR2, Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 on a Linux system and that ASM is not a problem for you (as I am using it as a shared storage). If not, please have a look at Oracle Documentation. As often, I made my tests using an Oracle VirtualBox environment. The scripts are tested and functional. Unfortunately, there can always be a typo or a mistake. This blog entry is not a course around the Clusterware Framework. I just hope it will let you see how powerful it is and that it will give you the whilst to go further with it…   Prerequisite 2 Linux boxes (OELCluster01 and OELCluster02) at the same OS level. I used OEL 5 Update 5 with Enterprise Kernel. Shared Storage (SAN). On my VirtualBox system, I used Openfiler to simulate the SAN Oracle 11gR2 Database (11.2.0.1) Oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure (11.2.0.1)   Step 1 – Install the software Using asmlib, create 3 ASM disks (ASM_CRS, ASM_DTA and ASM_FRA) Install Grid Infrastructure for a cluster (OELCluster01 and OELCluster02 are the 2 nodes of the cluster) Use ASM_CRS to store Voting Disk and OCR. Use SCAN. Install Oracle Database Standalone binaries on both nodes. Use asmca to check/mount the disk groups on 2 nodes Use dbca to create and configure a database on the primary node Let’s name it DB11G. Copy the pfile, password file to the second node. Create adump directoty on the second node.   Step 2 - Setup the resource to be protected After its creation with dbca, the database is automatically protected by the Oracle Restart technology available with Grid Infrastructure. Consequently, it restarts automatically (if possible) after a crash (ex: kill –9 smon). A database resource has been created for that in the Cluster Registry. We can observe this with the command : crsctl status resource that shows and ora.dba11g.db entry. Let’s save the definition of this resource, for future use : mkdir –p /crs/11.2.0/HA_scripts chown oracle:oinstall /crs/11.2.0/HA_scripts crsctl status resource ora.db11g.db -p > /crs/11.2.0/HA_scripts/myResource.txt Although very interesting, Oracle Restart is not cluster aware and cannot restart the database on any other node of the cluster. So, let’s remove it from the OCR definitions, we don’t need it ! srvctl stop database -d DB11G srvctl remove database -d DB11G Instead of it, we need to create a new resource of a more general type : cluster_resource. Step 4 - Test this We will test the setup using 2 methods. crsctl relocate resource DB11G.db This command calls the ACTION_SCRIPT  (on the two nodes)  to stop the database on the active node and start it on the other node. Once done, we can revert back to the original node, but, this time we can use a more “MS$ like” method :Turn off the server on which the database is running. After short delay, you should observe that the database is relocated on node 1. Conclusion Once the software installed and the standalone database created (which is a rather common and usual task), the steps to reach the objective are quite easy : Create an executable action script on every node of the cluster. Create a resource file. Create/Register the resource with OCR using the resource file. Start the resource.   Question A. Given 1. A string in rich text format that may have paragraph, tabs, space, line break, indentation, (or even image?) 2. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

  Hi, I have a Dynamic list control of Metabuilder.Webcontrol inside UpdatePanel,I am adding removing Items using Javascript from the list control. It works fine Inside UpdatePanel. I have another control Gridview along with checkbox's which require postback to get populated. Once It gets populated successfully inside update without postback. I checked few rows and wanted to add them into List Control using Javascript.   Hello all, I have a user control, MBControl. Or, possibly, it is dropped inside as well as outside -- the control surface is darker than without the shadow. How could I fix this? I want the shadow being dropped outside only and not affecting the control surface.

  Hello. Im trying to build a simple XML to Controls parser in my CF application. In the code below the string im trying to parse looks like this: "<Panel><Label>Text1</Label><Label>Text2</Label></Panel>" The result i want with this code would be a Panel with two labels. But the problem is when the first Label is parsed the subreader.Read() returns false in the ParsePanelElementh method, and so it falls out of while statement. Since im new into XMLReader i must be missing something very simple. • How to make TinyMCE work inside an UpdatePanel?

  I'm trying to do something that many people seem to have been able to do but which I am unable to implement any solution. The TinyMCE control works pretty well in an asp.net form until you enclose it with an UpdatePanel, which then breaks after postback. I have tried some fixes like the RegisterClientScriptBlock method, but am still unsuccessful, I still lose the tinyMCE control after postback. Below is a full test project (VS 2008) provided with a Control outside UpdatePanel and one inside, with a button on each to generate postback. Also in the project I have a EditorTest control which include commented code of some calls I tried, in case it gives anyone any ideas. • Form gets disposed somehow

  I have a client-server application, in which I use classic Sockets and threads for receiving/sending data and listening for clients. The application works fine, but after some random time I get the ObjectDisposedException: System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'MainForm'. at System.Windows.Forms.Control.MarshaledInvoke(Control caller, Delegate method, Object[] args, Boolean synchronous) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method, Object[] args) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method) That code is called from client Socket thread and I use Invoke() method to run the code on UI thread. I'm sure that I don't manually dispose the form nor using Close() (form is closed by user clicking Close button), so I don't know what could cause its disposing.
