Core Data produces Analyzer warnings

Hi I am doing the final touch ups on an app and I am getting rid of every compiler/analyzer warning. I have a bunch of Class methods that wrap my apps access to Core Data entities. This is "provoking" the analyzer. + (CDProductEntity*) newProductEntity { return (CDProductEntity*)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"CDProductEntity" inManagedObjectContext:[self context]]; } Which results in an Analyzer warning: Object with +0 retain counts returned to caller where a +1 (owning) retain count is expected In the method that calls the above Class Method I have this: CDProductEntity *newEntity = [self newProductEntity]; Which results in an Analyzer warning: Method returns an Objective-C object with a +1 retain count (owning reference) Explicitly releasing or autoreleasing a Core Data entity is usually very very bad, but is that what it is asking me to do here? First it tells me it has a +0 retain count and that is bad, then it tells me it has a +1 which is also bad. What can I do to ensure that I am either dealing with a Analyzer hiccup or that I release correctly? Thanks in advance

Specializing a template on a lambda in C++0x

I've written a traits class that lets me extract information about the arguments and type of a function or function object in C++0x (tested with gcc 4.5.0). The general case handles function objects: template <typename F> struct function_traits { template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal { }; template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal<R (F::*)(A...)> { // ... }; typedef typename _internal<decltype(&F::operator())>::<<nested types go here>>; }; Then I have a specialization for plain functions at global scope: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<R (*)(A...)> { // ... }; This works fine, I can pass a function into the template or a function object and it works properly: template <typename F> void foo(F f) { typename function_traits<F>::whatever ...; } int f(int x) { ... } foo(f); What if, instead of passing a function or function object into foo, I want to pass a lambda expression? foo([](int x) { ... }); The problem here is that neither specialization of function_traits<> applies. The C++0x draft says that the type of the expression is a "unique, unnamed, non-union class type". Demangling the result of calling typeid(...).name() on the expression gives me what appears to be gcc's internal naming convention for the lambda, main::{lambda(int)#1}, not something that syntactically represents a C++ typename. In short, is there anything I can put into the template here: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<????> { ... } that will allow this traits class to accept a lambda expression?

Hi, I've looked over a few similar questions, but I'm still confused. I'm trying to figure out how to explicitly (not by compiler optimization etc) and C++03-compatible avoid copying of an object when passing it to a template function. Why does this VBS scheduled task (to call a URL) not work in Windows Server 2008?

This same script worked in older server OS environments, and even on my desktop; and allows me to kick off a nightly process on my website's URL. It simply will not execute the URL in my Windows Server 2008 environment. It does not generate any errors, claiming task completion I can pull the same URL up just fine in the server's web browser I have the script running with "highest privileges" I even tried to create a batch file which executes it, so I can explicitly "Run as Administrator" and it still will not execute the URL (but will not generate any errors either). I'm baffled as to why the task claims to have completed successfully, yet the script never reaches the URL. Call LogEntry() Sub LogEntry() 'Force the script to finish on an error. I seem to remember Scala treating methods ending in _= specially, so something like this: object X { var x: Int = 0; def y_=(n : Int) { x = n }} X.y = 1 should call X.y_=(1). However, in 2.8.0 RC1, I get an error message: <console>:6: error: value y is not a member of object X X.y = 1 ^ Interestingly, just trying to call the method without parentheses fails as well: scala> X.y_= 1 <console>:1: error: ';' expected but integer literal found. X.y_= 1 ^ Am I misremembering something which does actually exist or did I just invent it out of whole cloth?

Writing secure java code with RMI

Hi Everyone, This may seem like a very broad question, but any help is appreciated. I have a client/server solution written in java which uses the Cajo project (which uses RMI). I just want to try and make my solution as secure as possible, given the sensitive data that will be transferred between server and client. So far, my ideas are to make all my classes "final" as well as throw a "non-serializable" exception for all my classes in the server (except for the object bound in the RMI registry, and any objects that actually do need to be transferred of course). Can anyone think of any other ideas? I know that someone could write a malicious client - this isn't hard to do as you can find out the remote object's API using reflection. However is there anything I can do to protect a malicious client access classes/objects within the server that they are not supposed to access? Many Thanks

Simple Scala syntax - trying to define "==" operator - what am I missing?

Why doesn't it work??? invalid postback event instead of dropdown to datagrid

I faced with funny situation. I created a page which is having some value, I set these value and control my post back event also. The problem is happening when I change a component index(ex reselect a combobox which is not inside my datagrid) then I dont know why without my page call the Page_Load it goes to create a new row in grid function and all of my parameter are null! I am just receiving null exception. So in other word I try to explain the situation: when I load my page I am initializing some parameter. then everything is working fine. in my page when I change selected item of my combo box, page suppose to go and run function related to that combo box, and call page_load, but it is not going there and it goes to rowcreated function. I am trying to illustrate part of my page. Empty dict-like collection problem in SQLAlchemy

I have a mapping in SQLAlchemy that looks like this: t_property_value = sa.Table('property_value', MetaData, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) orm.mapper(PropertyValue, t_property_value) t_estate = sa.Table('estate', MetaData, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) orm.mapper(Estate, t_estate, properties = dict( property_hash = orm.relation(PropertyValue, collection_class = column_mapped_collection(t_property_value.c.property_id)) )) Now, everything seems to be fine, when I load the Estate object and it has some relations to PropertyValue objects. However, when it does not, then property_hash attribute is None, instead of being something dict-like, so I can not add new relations like this: estate.property_hash[prop_id] = PropertyValue(...) because I get the "'NoneType' object does not support item assignment" error. So, is there any way to force SQLAlchemy to create proper empty collection?

How to detect crashing tabed webbrowser and handle it?

I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ? Do we really need a safe release macro?

Quite a lot of people seem to use a macro such as #define SAFE_RELEASE(X) [X release]; X = nil; (myself included). I've been reassessing why I am using it and wanted to canvas some opinion. The purpose (I think) for using this macro is so that if you were to accidentally use your object after releasing it then you won't get a bad access exception because objective-c will quite happily ignore it when the object is nil. It strikes me that this has the potential to mask some obscure bugs. Maybe it would actually be preferable for the program to crash when you try to use X again. That way during testing you can find the issue and improve the code. Does this macro encourage lazy programming? Thoughts?

How can I get the width/height of a loaded swf's stage in AS2?

I'm using MovieClipLoader to load an external as2 swf file into my as2 flash project, and I'm having trouble getting the original stage size of the loaded swf. Changing Pushpin Text Color

I'm attempting to display data through the text of a Pushpin object. However, the text color defaults to white which is nigh-invisible when the backdrop is a road-style MapView. Looking through the API, paying especially close attention to PushpinOptions, I couldn't find anything that manipulated text color. Considering that this seems to a fairly basic feature, I'm a little confused as to why it doesn't exist or at least is really hard to find. Am I missing something or does Bing Maps for Android really not let you change the default text color for a Pushpin object?

Casting objects in C# (ASP.Net MVC)

I'm coming from a background in ColdFusion, and finally moving onto something modern, so please bear with me. I'm running into a problem casting objects. I have two database tables that I'm using as Models - Residential and Commercial. Both of them share the majority of their fields, though each has a few unique fields. I've created another class as a container that contains the sum of all property fields. Query the Residential and Commercial, stuff it into my container, cunningly called Property. This works fine. However, I'm having problems aliasing the fields from Residential/Commercial onto Property. It's quite easy to create a method for each property: fillPropertyByResidential(Residential source) and fillPropertyByCommercial(Commercial source), and alias the variables. That also works fine, but quite obviously will copy a bunch of code - all those fields that are shared between the two main Models. So, I'd like a generic fillPropertyBySource() that takes the object, and detects if it's Residential or Commercial, fills the particular fields of each respective type, then do all the fields in common. Except, I gather in C# that variables created inside an If are only in the scope of the if, so I'm not sure how to do this. public property fillPropertyBySource(object source) { property prop = new property(); if (source is Residential) { Residential o = (Residential)source; //Fill Residential only fields } else if (source is Commercial) { Commercial o = (Commercial)source; //Fill Commercial only fields } //Fill fields shared by both prop.price = (int)o.price; prop.bathrooms = (float)o.bathrooms; return prop; } "o" being a Commercial or Residential only exists within the scope of the if. How do I detect the original type of the source object and take action? Bear with me - the shift from ColdFusion into a modern language is pretty..... difficult. More so since I'm used to procedural code and MVC is a massive paradigm shift. How do I change the URL Alias for Security/login in SilverStripe to user/login

I am working on a new website being built in SilverStripe. Currently I am having a ton of trouble trying to get the system to let me change the URL alias (or create a second one) for the Security controller's login (and eventually logout) function. I have tried playing around with the routes.yml file and I tried creating the paths in my own UserController and loading directly from the Security controller with "return Security::login()". But that gives me errors about the use of the static functions. Unfortunately I don't come from a ton of object oriented experience and this is the first CMS I have used that actually uses a bunch of true object orientation. The current version of SilverStripe we are using is 3.0 (but we will be upgrading to 3.1.1 in a few days). Does anyone know much about the routing in SilverStripe?

Flex DataGrid not Displaying Data

I have a custom dataGrid that acts more like a 2D list (if that makes sense at all). I am dynamically creating the columns and recreating the dataProvider to suit my needs. While debugging I can see that I am creating the columns and setting them to the dataGrid and creating and setting the dataProvider, but for some reason I am able to see the dataGrid and the columns but not the data. Merge two lists of objects which hold different data

I have an object "Project" which has a number of fields, one of which is "Name". I have one spreadsheet of projects which contains some of these fields, and another which contains the rest. However, Both spreadsheets have the "Name" field. I've read them in and populated two List, only populating the available fields from that particular source. E.g. a Project from List 1 looks like; {Name="MyProj", Type="Form", Priority=NULL}, whereas a Project from List 2 {Name="MyProj", Type=NULL, Priority="High"}. Now, I want to merge these two lists into one in which each Project object has all of its fields populated, with the Name field being used to match the elements. How can I achieve this? Hi, I have a groovy list of lists i.e. list = [[2, 0, 1], [1, 5, 2], [1, 0, 3]] I would like sort it by order of the first element, then second, then third. Expected assert list == [[1, 0, 3], [1, 5, 2], [2, 0, 1]] I started with list = list.sort{ a,b -> a[0] <=> b[0] } but that only sorts the first element. How do you finish? Thanks

Is Java serialization a tool to shrink the memory footprint?

Hey folks, does serialization in Java always have to shrink the memory that is used to hold an object structure? Or is it likely that serialization will have higher costs? In other words: Is serialization a tool to shrink the memory footprint of object structures in Java? Edit I'm totally aware of what serialization was intended for, but thanks anyway :-) But you know, tools can be misused. My question is, whether it is a good tool to decrease the memory usage. So what reasons can you imagine, why memory usage should increase/decrease? What will happen in most cases?

How to resolve Resharper's "unused property" warning on properties solely for Display/Value Members?

I have defined two properties "Name" and "ID" for an object which I use for the DisplayMember and ValueMember of a ComboBox with a BindingList datasource. I recently installed Resharper to evaluate it. Resharper is giving me warnings on the object that the two properties are unused. Sample code: BindingList<ClassSample> SampleList = new BindingList<ClassSample>(); // populate SampleList cmbSampleSelector.DisplayMember = "Name"; cmdSampleSelector.ValueMember = "ID"; cmbSampleSelector.DataSource = SampleList; private class ClassSample { private string _name; private string _id; public string Name // Resharper believes this property is unused { get { return _name; } } public string ID // Resharper believes this property is unused { get {return _id; } } public ClassSample(string Name, string ID) { _name = Name; _id = ID; } } Am I doing something wrong or is Resharper clueless about this particular usage?
