    Trying to queue a job with delayed_job as follows: Delayed::Job.enqueue(BackgroundProcess.new(current_user, object)) current_user and object are not nil when I print them out. The weird thing is that sometimes refreshing the page or running the command again works! I've had first-hand experience with Oracle University and was quite satisfied with my experience, but the courses currently available through Oracle University are limited to options out of our budget when considering travel and 5 days of hotel. I'm wondering what other good providers of Oracle training are out there and what fellow developers are having positive experiences with. Travel is expected, but we are based out of Atlanta, GA so suggestions in the vicinity would be a plus.

    I have an identity mapping like so: Id(x => x.GuidId).Column("GuidId") .GeneratedBy.GuidComb().UnsavedValue(Guid.Empty); When I retrieve an object from the database, the GuidId property of my object is Guid.Empty, not the actual Guid (the property in the class is of type System.Guid). However, all of the other properties in the object are populated just fine. The database field's data type (SQL Server 2005) is uniqueidentifier, and marked as RowGuid. The application that is connecting to the database is a VB.NET Web Site project (not a "Web Application" or "MVC Web Application" - just a regular "Web Site" project). I open the NHibernate session through a custom HttpModule.   • Looking for design patterns to isolate framework layers from each other

    Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in "isolating" framework objects from each other (Spring, Hibernate, Struts). I'm beginning to see design "problems" where an object from one framework gets used in another object from a different framework. My fear is we're creating tightly coupled objects. For instance, I have an application where we have a DynaActionForm with several attributes...one of which is a POJO generated by the Hibernate Tools. This POJO gets used everywhere...the JSP populates data to it, the Struts Action sends it down to a Service Layer, the DAO will persist it...ack! Now, imagine that someone decides to do a little refactoring on that POJO...so that means the JSP, Action, Service, DAO all needs to be updated...which is kind of painful...There has got to be a better way?! There's a book called Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies (2nd Edition)...is this worth a look? I don't believe it touches on any specific frameworks, but it looks like it might give some insight on how to properly layer the application... Thanks!

    I have created custome Membership Role and Profile provider using INGRES db. Now I can see my IngresMembership and IngresRole provider in the Provider tab(Select a different provider for each feature (advanced) ) of WSAT but when I clik on security tab I get this error: "There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." What am I missing? Do I need to add code for all override methods for Role provider? I have just written code for the Initialize and GetRolesForUser functions. Thanks

    I have a section of a form that I need to handle differently from the rest of form results. In the section that needs special handling I need to iterate over 3 form fields that have the same name. They have to have the same name, I can't change it. The section of the form I am referring to looks something like this: <td><input name="Color" size="20" value="" type="text"></td> Using C# I try something like this: I try to handle it like this: int i; for (i = 1; i <= Request.Form["Color"][i]; i++) { colorName.Text += Request.Form["Color"]; } Which leads to the following exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. How should I be handling form fields with the same name?

  • C++ memory management of reference types

    Hello, I'm still a fairly novice programmer and I have a question about c++ memory management with refence types. First of all, my understanding of reference types: A pointer is put on the stack and the actual data that the pointer points to is created and placed on the heap. Standard arrays and user defined classes are refence types. Is this correct? Second, my main question is do c and c++'s memory management mechanisms (malloc, free and new, delete) always handle this properly and free the memory that a class or array is pointing to? Does everything still work if those pointers get reassigned somehow to other objects of the same size/type on the heap? What if a class has a pointer member that points to another object? I am assuming that delete/freeing the class object doesn't free what it's member pointer points to, is that correct? Thanks all! -R

    Imagine a collection of objects such as World, Country, Region and City. World contains a list of Country objects, Country contains a list of Region objects etc. I would like to represent this structure in a JTree and be able to add, remove and move objects around the tree. Can I easily create a TableModel from this structure? World would be the root object and I would need to perform some object-specific rendering. Any one know of an appropriate tutorial?

  • Treating a fat webservice in .net 3.5 c#

    I'm dealing with an obese 3rd party webservice that returns about 3mb of data for a simple search results, about 50% of the data in that response is junk. Would it make sense then to remap this data to my own result object and ditch the response so I'm storing 1-2 mb in memory for filtering and sorting rather than using the web-responses own object and using 2-4 or am I missing a point? So far I've been accessing the webservice from a separate project and using a new class to provide the interaction and to handle the persistence so my project looks like this |- Web (mvc2 proj) |- DAL (database/storage fluent-nhibernate) |- SVCGateway (interaction layer + webservice related models) |- Services -------------- |- Tests |- Specs I'm trying to make the application behave fast and I also need to store the result set temporarily in case a customer goes to view the product and wants to go back to the results. (Service returns only 500 of possible 14K results). So basically I'm looking for confirmation that I'm doing the right thing in pushing the results into my own objects or if I'm breaking some rule or even if there's a better way of handling it.   • Issues using UITapGestureRecognizers in Interface Builder

    I'm attempting to use the UITapGestureRecognizer object that can be found in Interface Builder. I've dragged a single "UITapGestureRecognizer" from the object library to a single view xib. I then create an IBAction method from this tap gesture, for a simple test, I'm just printing an "NSLog" message to the console once there is a tap on the view. I've run this, and the tap method isn't being called. I right click the view in IB and I noticed that there is a warning "!" on the view's "Outlook Collections" I see: Outlook Collections gestureRecognizers - Tap Gesture Recognizer (!) The warning states: UIView does not have an outlet collection named gestureRecognizers. What do I need to do to remedy this?

When I call it from a console application it works fine because I can add a web reference then I just make an instance of that webservice then I invoke the method I want.   • Getting Http Status code number (200, 301, 404, etc.) from HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse

    I am trying to get the HTTP status code number from the HttpWebResponse object returned from a HttpWebRequest. I was hoping to get the actual numbers (200, 301,302, 404, etc.) rather than the text description. ("Ok", "MovedPermanently", etc.) Is the number buried in a property somewhere in the response object? Any ideas other than creating a big switch function? Thanks.
