    Hi, I have queries that are built like this: public static List<MyObjectModel> GetData (int MyParam) { using (DataModel MyModelDC = new DataModel()) { var MyQuery = from.... select MyObjectModel { ...} } return new List<MyObjectModel> (MyQuery) } } It seems that using compiled linq-to-sql queries are about as fast as stored procedures and so the goal is to convert these queries into compiled queries. The accept() function always fail to accept connections, the pid returned is -1 I have no idea what causing this, since in RedHat & CentOS it works well. When i remove the call to daemonize(), everything works well on Debian, when i add it back, same accept() error reproduce. I've been monitring the /proc//fd, everything looks good. Something in the daemonize() and the Debian release just doesn't seem to work. (Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, Linux 2.6.26-2-286 #1 SMP) Any idea what causing this? Thank you

My code simply skips this cell and reads the next one. Why would nothing be there if the file is there, the variable 'files' has the file as well. Do I need to do anything to the file I put into the Assets folder in get it to be readable?

    Herlihy and Shavit's book (The Art of Multiprocessor Programming) solution to memory reclamation uses Java's AtomicStampedReference<T>;. To write one in C++ for the x86_64 I imagine requires at least a 12 byte swap operation - 8 for a 64bit pointer and 4 for the int. Is there x86 hardware support for this and if not, any pointers on how to do wait-free memory reclamation without it?

    If I made a program that stores strings on a text file using the "list"-function(#include ), and then I want to copy all of the text from that file and call it something(so I can tell the program to type in all of the text I copied somewhere by using that one variable to refer to the text), do I use a string,double,int or what do I declare that chunk of text as? I'm making the program using c++ in a simple console application.

  • Java: Making concurrent MySQL queries from multiple clients synchronised

    I work at a gaming cybercafe, and we've got a system here (smartlaunch) which keeps track of game licenses. I've written a program which interfaces with this system (actually, with it's backend MySQL database). The program is meant to be run on a client PC and (1) query the database to select an unused license from the pool available, then (2) mark this license as in use by the client PC. The problem is, I've got a concurrency bug. The program is meant to be launched simultaneously on multiple machines, and when this happens, some machines often try and acquire the same license. I think that this is because steps (1) and (2) are not synchronised, i.e. one program determines that license #5 is available and selects it, but before it can mark #5 as in use another copy of the program on another PC tries to grab that same license. I've tried to solve this problem by using transactions and table locking, but it doesn't seem to make any difference - Am I doing this right?
