  Hello all. It's Tuesday morning and I am being thick as (I'm blaming my daughter waking up early this morning!) I have the following example in a SQL table Cust Group Sales A 1 15 A 1 10 A 1 5 A 2 15 A 2 10 A 2 5 B 1 15 B 1 10 B 1 5 B 2 15 B 2 10 B 2 5 What I would like to show is the top 2 products per customer, per group sorted descending by Sales i.e. Cust Group Sales A 1 15 A 1 10 A 2 15 A 2 10 B 1 15 B 1 10 B 2 15 B 2 10 I'm assuming I need to declare two variables, Cust and Group, I'm just not sure how to complete this in one fell swoop. Apologies for the thick question...no excuse. Thanks for any help.

• Qt not displaying PNG images on Linux

  Hi, I have a software written using Qt which is meant to work on both Windows and Linux. I use PNG images as icons for my QActions, embedded in a resource. I have the following tree directory: / resources/ icons.qrc image.png Here is the content of icons.qrc: <RCC> <qresource prefix="/resources" lang="fr"> <file alias="image.png">image.png</file> </qresource> </RCC> I declare my QIcon like that: QIcon(":/resources/image.png") Under Windows, it works well but on Linux (I only tried on Ubuntu 10.4 so far), the images aren't displayed. Is there anything special I have to do for this to work ? Is this a configuration problem ? Thank you.

  The reason I want to load modules dynamically is to avoid circular dependency issue. I have following layers View -- ViewModel -- DataProvider -- ServiceClient (wcf proxies). Now I want a static IoC container that can be shared across these layers. I want to make my View testable and to do that I’ll have to inject the various dependencies in various layers and mock out those dependencies as well. Now issue I am facing is where to declare and load ninject modules. i also realised in Silverlight version of Ninject there is no version of Load which take string arugment, which can be used to load the modules dynamically Load("*.dll"). How can I achieve dynamic loading in Silverlight Thanks

  Is it possible (and if so, safe) to create/use a block which takes a double pointer as an argument? For instance: - (void)methodWithBlock:(void (^)(NSError **error))block; Additional context, research, and questions: I'm using ARC. When I declare the method above and attempt to call it, XCode autocompletes my method invocation as follows: [self methodWithBlock:^(NSError *__autoreleasing *error) {}]; What does __autoreleasing mean here and why is it being added? I presume it has something to do with ARC. If this is possible and safe, can the pointer still be dereferenced in the block as it would be anywhere else? In general, what are the important differences between doing what I'm describing, and simply passing a double pointer as a method parameter (e.g. - (void)methodWithDoublePointer:(NSError **)error;)? What special considerations, if any, should be taken into account (again assuming this is possible at all)?

  Hi, How to create & access static string in iPhone (objective c)? I declare static NSString *str = @"OldValue" in class A. If i assign some value to this in class B as str = @"NewValue". This value persists for all methods in class B. But if I access it in class C (after assignment in B) I am getting it as OldValue. Am I missing something? Should i use extern in other classes? • Declaring more than one SPIM array causes a syntax error

  Below is the beginning of a chunk of SPIM code: .data a: .space 20 b: .space 20 .text set_all: sw $ra,0($sp) li $t0,0 li $t1,10 ............ Unfortunately, the second array I declare ('b') causes the SPIM interpreter to spit out: spim: (parser) syntax error on line 3 of file spim.out b: .space 20 ^ Similar code works when I only have one array -- it seems to be the second that screws it up. I've prodded at it but can't figure out what it is about that statement that makes it break. Any thoughts? Thanks for any insight.

• XQuery - problem with recursive function

  Hi all, Im new on this project and am going to write, what i thought was a simple thing. A recursive function that writes nested xml elements in x levels (denoted by a variable). So far I have come up with this, but keeps getting a compile error. Please note that i have to generate new xml , not query existing xml: xquery version "1.0"; declare function local:PrintTest($amount) { <test> { let $counter := 0 if ($counter <= $amount ) then local:PrintTest($counter) else return $counter := $counter +1 } </test> }; local:PrintPerson(3) My error is: File Untitled1.xquery: XQuery transformation failed XQuery Execution Error! • Is there a config option in PHP to prevent undefined constants from being interpreted as strings?

  This is from the php manual: http://us.php.net/manual/en/language.constants.syntax.php If you use an undefined constant, PHP assumes that you mean the name of the constant itself, just as if you called it as a string (CONSTANT vs "CONSTANT"). An error of level E_NOTICE will be issued when this happens. I really don't like this behavior. If I have failed to define a required constant, I would rather the script fail so that I am forced define it. Is there any way to force PHP to crash the script if it tries to use an undefined constant? For example. Both of these scripts do the same thing. <?php define('DEBUG',1); if (DEBUG) echo('Yo!'); ?> and <?php if(DEBUG) echo('Yo!'); ?> I would rather the second script DIE and declare that it tried to use an undefined constant DEBUG.

• Dynamically call a stored procedure from another stored procedure

  I want to be able to pass in the name of a stored procedure as a string into another stored procedure and have it called with dynamic parameters. I'm getting an error though. Specifically I've tried: create procedure test @var1 varchar(255), @var2 varchar(255) as select 1 create procedure call_it @proc_name varchar(255) as declare @sp_str varchar(255) set @sp_str = @proc_name + ' ''a'',''b''' print @sp_str exec @sp_str exec call_it 'test' So procedure call_it should call procedure test with arguments 'a', and 'b'. When I run the above code I get: Msg 2812, Level 16, State 62, Procedure call_it, Line 6 Could not find stored procedure 'test 'a','b''. However, running test 'a','b' works fine.

Any ideas?

• What to do of exceptions when implementing java.lang.Iterator

  The java.lang.Iterator interface has 3 methods: hasNext, next and remove. In order to implement a read-only iterator, you have to provide an implementation for 2 of those: hasNext and next. My problem is that these methods does not declare any exceptions. So if my code inside the iteration process declares exceptions, I must enclose my iteration code inside a try/catch block. My current policy has been to rethrow the exception enclosed in a RuntimeException. But this has issues because the checked exceptions are lost and the client code no longer can catch those exceptions explicitly. How can I work around this limitation in the Iterator class? Here is a sample code for clarity: class MyIterator implements Iterator { @Override public boolean hasNext() { try { return implementation.testForNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } @Override public boolean next() { try { return implementation.getNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } ... }

  Hi all, Here is my question, I have a solution with 4 projects in it for a WCF Service : DLL Library : Service Interface. DLL Library : Service Code. Form Application : Service hosting application. Form Application : Service client application. I'd like to have certain properties of the service accessible for the hosting application but not for the client one. If I declare a property in the client interface they will both have access to it. In fact, my service manage user identity login and keep a list of all user currently logged in. I'd like to be able to show this list in the Hosting application, like a debugging tool. But I don't want the service client to be able to access to this list. How can I do ? Thank in advance.

• Passing big multi-dimensional array to function in C

  Hi, I'm having trouble passing a big array to a function in C. I declare: int image[height][width][3]={}; where height and width can be as big as 1500. And when I call: foo((void *)image,height,width); which is declared as follows: int *foo(const int *inputImage, int h, int w); I get segmentation fault error. What's strange is that if my values are: height=1200; width=290; theres no problem, but when they're: height=1200; width=291; i get the mentioned error. At 4 bytes per integer with both height and width of 1500 (absolute worst case) the array size would be of 27MB which imo isn't that big and shouldn't really matter because I'm only passing a pointer to the first element of the array. Any advice?

• PHP calling PostgreSQL function - type issue?

  I have a function in PostgreSQL / plpgsql with the following signature: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION user_login(TEXT, TEXT) RETURNS SETOF _get_session AS $$ ... $$ Where _get_session is a view. The function works fine when calling it from phpPgAdmin, however whan I call it from PHP I get the following error: Warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: type "session_ids" does not exist CONTEXT: compile of PL/pgSQL function "user_login" near line 2 in /home/sites/blah.com/index.php on line 69 The DECLARE section of the function contains the following variables: oldSessionId session_ids := $1; newSessionId session_ids := $2; The domain session_ids DOES exist, and other functions which use the same domain work when called from the same script. The PHP is as follows: $query = "SELECT * FROM $dbschema.user_login('$session_old'::TEXT, '$session'::TEXT)"; $result = pg_query($login, $query); I have also tried this using ::session_ids in place of ::TEXT when calling the function, however I recieve the same error. Help :o(

  I have to generate some update statements based off a table in our database. I created the following script which is generating the update statements I need. But when I try to run those scripts I am getting errors pertaining to unescaped single quotes in the content and &B, &T characters which have special meaning in oracle. I took care of the &B and &T problem by setting SET DEFINE OFF. Whats the best way to escape single quotes within the content? • Concatenating rows from different tables into one field

  Hi! In a project using a MSSQL 2005 Database we are required to log all data manipulating actions in a logging table. One field in that table is supposed to contain the row before it was changed. We have a lot of tables so I was trying to write a stored procedure that would gather up all the fields in one row of a table that was given to it, concatenate them somehow and then write a new log entry with that information. I already tried using FOR XML PATH and it worked, but the client doesn't like the XML notation, they want a csv field. Here's what I had with FOR XML PATH: DECLARE @foo varchar(max); SET @foo = (SELECT * FROM table WHERE id = 5775 FOR XML PATH('')); The values for "table", "id" and the actual id (here: 5775) would later be passed in via the call to the stored procedure. Is there any way to do this without getting XML notation and without knowing in advance which fields are going to be returned by the SELECT statement?

Then i run a function, which among others is supposed to modify some item in my array from within the function. This is unfortunately not working. So my question is simple. Is it normal? • What would be the use of accepting itself as type arguments in generics

  I saw some code on an unrelated question but it got me curious as I never saw such construct with Java Generics. What would be the use of creating a generic class that can take as type argument itself or descendants of itself. Here is example : abstract class A<E extends A> { abstract void foo(E x); } the first thing that came to mind would be a list that takes a list as parameter. Using this code feels strange, how do you declare a variable of type A ? Recursive declaration !? Does this even work ? If so did any of you see that in code ? How was it used ?

So the form elements have the class="required" attribute. input type="text" name="last_name" class="required"/ Now if i want to apply some css properties to the input fields of this form - how do I do that. I do not want to declare a general css for all input elements - I have declared the css as follows: input.form { color: #000; background: #fff; border: 2px solid #E1E1E1; font-size: 16pt; width:150px; } And I want to use it this way input class="form" type="text" name="last_name" class="required"/ But this wont work as there are two class attributes here.   I use a UITableViewController to display a list of items, and one of the items selection must lead to a photo gallery created with animationImages.
