  With a "normal" (i mean "full") linux distro, it works just fine: sleep $(echo "$[ ($RANDOM % 10 ) ]") ok, it waits for about 0-9 sec but under OpenWRT [not using bash, rather "ash"]: $ sleep $(echo "$[ ($RANDOM % 9 ) ]") sleep: invalid number '$[' $ and why: $ echo "$[ ($RANDOM % 9 ) ]" $[ ( % 9 ) ] $ So does anyone has a way to generate random numbers under OpenWRT, so i can put it in the "sleep"? • Dell PowerEdge R720 - Corrupted RAID

  Apologies in advance for the lengthy question. We have a Dell PowerEdge R720 server with: 2 x 136GB SAS drives in RAID 1 for the OS (Ubuntu Server 12.04) 6 x 3TB SATA drives in RAID 5 for data A few days ago we were getting errors when trying to access files on the large RAID 5 partition. We rebooted the server and got a message about the raid controller has found a foriegn config. We've had this before, and just needed to use Dell's RAID configuration utility to import foreign config on the RAID. Last time this worked, but this time, it started doing a disk check then we got this: FSCK has returned the following: "/dev/sdb1 inode 364738 has a bad extended attribute block 7 /dev/sdb1 unexpected inconsistency run fsck manually (i.e without -a or -p options) MOUNTALL fsck /ourdatapartition [1019] terminated with status 4 MOUNTALL filesystem has errors /ourdatapartition errors where found while checking the disk drive for /ourdatapartition Press F to fix errors, I to Ignore or M for Manual Recovery" We pressed F to try and fix the errors, but it eventually errored with: Inode 275841084, i_blocks is 167080, should be 0. Fix? yes Inode 275841141 has an invalid extend node (blk 2206761006, lblk 0) Clear? yes Inode 275841141, i_blocks is 227872, should be 0. Fix? yes Inode 275842303 has an invalid extend node (blk 2206760975, lblk 0) Clear? yes .... Error storing directory block information (inode=275906766, block=0, num=2699516178): Memory allocation failed /dev/sdb1: ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***** e2fsck: aborted /dev/sdb1: ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***** mountall: fsck /ourdatapartition [1286] terminated with status 9 mountall: Unrecoverable fsck error: /ourdatapartition We noticed one of the drive lights was not lit at all, and thought this may have failed and be the problem. We replaced the drive with a spare, and tried "F" to repair it again, but we keep just getting the same error as above. In the RAID configuration utility, all drives show as "online" and "optimal". We do have this data on another replicated server, so we're not worried about "recovering" anything, we just want to get the system back online asap. The server has 64 or 32GB memory, can't remember off the top of my head, but either way, with a 14TB RAID, I think it may still not be enough.   I have full admin access to the AD '08 server I'm trying to authenticate towards. The error code means invalid credentials, but I wish this was as simple as me typing in the wrong password. First of all, I have a working Apache mod_ldap configuration against the same domain. AuthType basic AuthName "MYDOMAIN" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthLDAPUrl "ldap://10.220.100.10/OU=Companies,MYCOMPANY,DC=southit,DC=inet?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=user)" AuthLDAPBindDN svc_webaccess_auth AuthLDAPBindPassword mySvcWebAccessPassword Require ldap-group CN=Service_WebAccess,OU=Groups,OU=MYCOMPANY,DC=southit,DC=inet I'm showing this because it works without the use of any Kerberos, as so many other guides out there recommend for system authentication to AD. Now I want to translate this into pam_ldap.conf for use with OpenSSH. The /etc/pam.d/common-auth part is simple. auth sufficient pam_ldap.so debug This line is processed before any other. I believe the real issue is configuring pam_ldap.conf. host 10.220.100.10 base OU=Companies,MYCOMPANY,DC=southit,DC=inet ldap_version 3 binddn svc_webaccess_auth bindpw mySvcWebAccessPassword scope sub timelimit 30 pam_filter objectclass=User nss_map_attribute uid sAMAccountName pam_login_attribute sAMAccountName pam_password ad Now I've been monitoring ldap traffic on the AD host using wireshark. I've captured a successful session from Apache's mod_ldap and compared it to a failed session from pam_ldap. The first bindrequest is a success using the svc_webaccess_auth account, the searchrequest is a success and returns a result of 1. The last bindrequest using my user is a failure and returns the above error code. Everything looks identical except for this one line in the filter for the searchrequest, here showing mod_ldap. Filter: (&(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName=ivasta)) The second one is pam_ldap. Filter: (&(&(objectclass=User)(objectclass=User))(sAMAccountName=ivasta)) My user is named ivasta. However, the searchrequest does not return failure, it does return 1 result. I've also tried this with ldapsearch on the cli. It's the bindrequest that follows the searchrequest that fails with the above error code 52e. Here is the failure message of the final bindrequest. resultcode: invalidcredentials (49) 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903AA, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, v1772 This should mean invalid password but I've tried with other users and with very simple passwords. Does anyone recognize this from their own struggles with pam_ldap and AD? Edit: Worth noting is that I've also tried pam_password crypt, and pam_filter sAMAccountName=User because this worked when using ldapsearch. ldapsearch -LLL -h 10.220.100.10 -x -b "ou=Users,ou=mycompany,dc=southit,dc=inet" -v -s sub -D svc_webaccess_auth -W '(sAMAccountName=ivasta)' This works using the svc_webaccess_auth account password. This account has scan access to that OU for use with apache's mod_ldap.

  I've wrote a simple batch file to connect to a specific VPN connection using RASDIAL rasdial MyVPNConnection but it always returned the error 691 Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain. Remote Access Service (RAS) Error Code List then i tried pointing to my Remote Access Phonebook (Rasphone.pbk) and see what happens rasdial MyVPNConnection /phonebook:%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk and still there was an error 691. I've then unchecked the following but still the same problem was reported when executing my batch file.

• How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files)

  Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this.   I just made some changes to a DNS zone in Webmin and clicked the "Apply Changes" button. I received the error message: rndc: connection to remote host closed This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect, or the key is invalid How can I troubleshoot / repair this? I copied parts of the BIND config from a failing server, so I suspect that's what causing it...

• Ubuntu 12.04: Does grub support multidevice boot from btrfs?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) with grub 1.99. I installed on a RAID10 multidevice BTRFS partition. I thought that multidevice support is included in grub for a while but on boot I'm dropped to a initramfs shell, because it fails to mount root ("invalid argument"). This is actually the same message I get if I want to mount a btrfs volume without executing btrfs device scan. Therefore I wonder: Does Ubuntu's grub version even support boot from btrfs mutlidevice ?

  I am trying to synchronize the content of the directory my_dir/ from /home to /backup. This directory contains a file which name has a double quote in it, such as to"to. Here is my rsync command: rsync -Cazh /home/my_dir/ /backup/my_dir/ And I get the following message: rsync: mkstemp "/backup/my_dir/.to"to.d93PZr" failed: Invalid argument (22) For info, rsync works well when the synchronized filenames contain single quote, parenthesis and space. • Really remove non-permanent certificate exception in firefox

  I visited japan.indymedia.org and firefox gave me the "Invalid certificate" screen. I added an exception, but did not click "Store this exception permanently." But now firefox still happily visits the same site without giving any warnings, even after a restart of the browser. I tried going to the Options-Advanced-Encryption-View Certificates-Servers to remove the certificate but I did not find it there. How to remove this exception and make firefox give me the warning when visiting the site?

• Localhost service accessible from remote address

  I have on my home Windows box - Cassini server with localhost:10000. And I want it be accessible in internet by my static IP. Tried netcat, "nc -l -p 10001 localhost 10000". But it results in "invalid connection to [IP] from [IP] 16074" Also before that it was working on Opera Unite properly, but now only writes a message: "An error occured. See error log for details". I downloaded poweriso for Mac and used this command: poweriso convert MyOS.img -o MyOS.iso -ot iso which returned this output: PowerISO Copyright(C) 2004-2008 PowerISO Computing, Inc Type poweriso -? for help MyOS.img: The file format is invalid or unsupported. I thought PowerISO could convert .img to .iso. Was I incorrect, or did I use the wrong commands or something like that?
