  On July 13, 2012, we plan to upgrade the My Oracle Support HTML-based user interface (UI) with additional functionality that will allow those users remaining on the Flash-based user interface to switch over to the HTML version. Our goal is to provide a single-online support portal so that all My Oracle Support users can benefit from the same features and functionality. Prior to July 13, 2012, users of Oracle On Demand, Oracle CRM On Demand, Taleo, and Oracle Configuration Manager should continue accessing the My Oracle Support Flash-based user interface. After July 13, 2012, the above features and functionality to support these users will be available on the HTML interface. All other users of My Oracle Support can make the switch now. • Unrecognized Display

  I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 12.04, and before I installed drivers, I was able to get my two monitor setup working just fine. However, after updating all my drivers and installing all the recommended software, my second display is no longer detected. My main display is called "Laptop" (which it was detected as the monitor name previously), but it is the only display listed. I tried to detect displays, nothing happened. The monitor is plugged in, and should be working fine - after all, it just was. How can I fix the problem of Ubuntu not listing my second monitor in the display settings?

• How can a Cisco Aironet wireless card connect to a WPA encrypted network?

  I have a Thinkpad T40 running Ubuntu 10.10. I want to connect to wireless networks with WPA encryption; they appear in the network list, but are grayed out. The card does support WPA, since it works in Windows. In 10.10 the wireless works just fine with unprotected and WEP networks, but cannot connect to any WPA networks. The card is a Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. I've been reading a lot of forum posts trying to find a solution, but either encounter threads where no solution was found or answers longer apply (most date from 2007, since this isn't the newest of computers). • Partitions and cdrom are not mounted, and the bars are missing in Ubuntu 12.04

  Provide my spec and sorry for my poor English first. MB: Gigabyte G31M-S2L (bios ver. F9) CPU: intel E5200 2G RAM HD1: WD 160G with 2 partitions (partition 1:60G, NTFS, win xp; partition 2:100G, NTFS) HD2: WD 320G with 2 partitions (partition 3:220G, NTFS; partition 4:100G, ext4, Ubuntu) Recently, I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 on my desktop PC (on partition 4). At the beginning, everything looked great including the auto-mounting of partitions 1~3 and the unity (3D). However, after I deleted and re-allocated the partitions on HD2 and re-installed Ubuntu on partition 4, the partitions 1~3 are no longer auto-mounted when I logged in the desktop (and even the inserted cdrom would not be mounted either), and the launch bar and menu bar in unity (3D) are missing. The configurations during these two installations are all the same as default. Are there any possible reasons or solutions for this issue? Thank you in advance!

• problem connecting to wifi at long range

  I am using a compaq 8510p with internal wifi. The campground supplies an open wifi hotspot, to which I can connect at close range (30 ft) but not at longer range (300 ft). Connecting a usb dongle just confuses things. The dongle tries to lock on to all the wifi networks in my vicinity. They are password protected, but my laptop still tries to connect. I connected a cantenna via usb port and got a signal which said I was connected, but all web pages returned error 'unable to connect to server', despite having three bars showing on the wifi icon. I believe it because the installed wifi card interacts with the usb dongle. If so what can I do about it? I am using Ubuntu 12.04.

• Using implode, explode etc.. on one line vs separating them into multiple lines with meaningful variable names

  I see a lot of people coding in PHP being rather proud if they manage to write a complicated one line statement that does clever things. But what is the advantage? It is not only harder to keep in once head while writing, but makes code much less readable. In my opinion reading short statements, if well written, can be like reading an essay, while complicated one liners can potentially make me pause and think for much longer then it would take for the coder to simply separate them into meaningful units. Am I wrong in thinking this? How would you go about proving your point to another programmer regarding this?

  You ever try to implement something simple but for some strange reason it doesn't work. So you try a possible solution but then something else doesn't work. You keep trying different workarounds but every time something different isn't working. Every time you get one step closer you also get one (or more) step farther from solving this problem and its now been 3 hours when this should have taken you 10 minutes. And it still isn't solved. There is no one in your company who can help, and you are about to put your fist through your screen. At this point you are so frustrated you can no longer think about the problem clearly. What should you do at this point? Or what can you do to avoid reaching this point?

  I keep having trouble getting the correct monitor resolution - every time I reinstall, I happen to use a newer Ubuntu release and the old tricks I used to know no longer work. Instead of leaving a long trail of questions for every new release, I am looking for a more universal and timeless solution. What's the correct way to set the correct monitor resolution with an Nvidia GPU for a screen that does not send EDID values? • Radeon Open Source Drivers Configuration

  How does one configure the Radeon Open Source drivers? I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 and want to try the Open Source drivers instead of the proprietary AMD binaries. After the installation, the driver seems to be installed, I have wobbly windows working (can't use a PC without wobbly windows!), and life is generally good. I have a problem when I connect a secondary monitor. Performance is killed (everything becomes laggy and jerky) and my laptop sits on the right-hand side of the monitor, not the left. I'd like to know how to turn off the Laptop's monitor so I'm just using the external monitor. How can I do this using the Open Source Radeon drivers? I can't find a GUI management tool, and there's no longer an xorg.conf. What to do?

• How can I fix latency problems for car game?

  Basically I'm trying to make a online car racing game for IOS using Game Center real time multiplayer. I have setup a timer that sends data every 0.02 seconds to the other player with the current position and current angle. However sometimes, it will take LONGER then these 0.02 seconds for the package to be sent and then received. In this case i have implemented a method that "calculate" what the next position should be if no position is received based on the last position and angle. However, when the data then receives for let say 0.04 seconds after, it will change back to the last position, which will result in the car "jumping" back and lag. And If i just keep ignoring the data it will never take any input from the other user. Is their any way to prevent this? I suppose this needs to be fixed with some client-sided algorithm.

• Boot time seems unusually long on MSI GX660R (bootchart included)

  After upgrading (clean install) to Ubuntu 12.04, the speed issue when running programs has reduced on my MSI GX660R laptop. However, the boot time is still much longer (over a minute, even after BIOS) than on the many less powerful laptops I have encountered running the same OS, and I was wondering if anyone could help me improve it. I use the FGLRX driver, if that makes any difference. I have uploaded a boot chart, it can be found here http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/4/bootchartl.png/ As you can see, the boot time is over a minute even after BIOS. A 'designed for Vista' laptop from ages ago which I installed Ubuntu on boots in around thirty seconds, so I think it's a bit strange. • How to integrate Pidgin and Evolution into the message indicator?

  I upgraded to 12.10, I was using Unity 2d, but as it no longer exists I moved to gnome classic, something in the upgrade seems to have change the message indicator in the "Indicator Applet Complete". How do I integrate Pidgin and Evolution into the message indicator, there is only a button to launch Pidgin, but a new message does not change the colour of the icon or show up in the dropdown part. Also when minimizing Pidgin it minimizes like a normal window instead of minimizing to the applet. There is nothing in the menu for Evolution at all.

Update I have read the page SSL on Heroku, but it's obsolete, they suggest to run: heroku addons:add piggyback_ssl Which is no longer necessary. SOLVED ! I don't change anything, and now it's working. It seems that it was a heroku problem.

  Assuming there is some bit of code that reads files for multiple consumers, and the files are of any arbitrary size: At what size does it become more efficient to read the file asynchronously? Or to put it another way, how small must a file be for it to be faster just to read it synchronously? I've noticed (and perhaps I'm incorrect) that when reading very small files, it takes longer to read them asynchronously than synchronously (in particular with .NET). I'm assuming this has to do with set up time for things like I/O Completion Ports, threads, etc. Is there any rule of thumb to help out here? Or is it dependent on the system and the environment?

• How do I make Unity quit opening Firefox under the Shiretoko icon?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, and whenever I open Firefox, whether it is from searching on the dash or clicking a 'quick-launch' launcher, it always opens yet another icon for the running instance that is a blank page and says Shiretoko. It will pulse the Firefox icon for a while (I'm guessing until a timeout or something). It's as if Unity no longer recognizes the Firefox process as Firefox and misidentifies it as Shiretoko. (I know Shiretoko was a testing version of Firefox a long time ago.) How do I set Unity straight? I imagine that it has something to do with me once using Shiretoko, but I believe that was even on a different installation, just the same home folder. Is there some place Unity caches this information that I can clear (or remove specific parts of)?

  I have made a backup of my entire computer and I reinstalled the OS right now. I know I should have listed dpkg -l to obtain a list of packages, but I have not done so. I only made a tarball of the entire disk. I wonder how I can find a list of packages based on this data. I would like to have the same packages installed that I had on my previous set-up. But there seems no longer a way to gain a list of packages, since I already reinstalled Ubuntu on the computer and only have the tarball back-up.

I know this is trivially easy with the GUI, but there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do it from from the command line?
