• How can I exclude a file in a folder from basic auth (regex help)?

  Hi I have a folder on my site which contains admin files and I've added basic auth following a little unwanted attention. This works fine however a couple of the admin functions won't work through basic auth as they handle file uploads and so I want to exclude these files from the auth. It shouldn't have any security implications as any rogue user wouldn't be able to access the pages that could create a session to use these functions. I am using the following basic code to exclude a file: <FilesMatch "(index.php\/myadminfolder\/myurl\/myaction/someotherstuff?)$"> Satisfy Any Order allow,deny Allow from all Deny from none </FilesMatch> The URL exclusion is not working. The URL to exclude is in the form: index.php/directory/subdirectory/action/uniqueid/blah What is the correct URL string to add to FilesMatch to exclude any files that start with the pattern of index.php/directory/subdirectory/action - regardless of what comes after action? • Can I install applications to Remote Desktop Session Hosts via Group Policy?

  I have a GPO that installs an application using the Software installation policy under Computer Configuration. I assign this GPO to the OU with our desktop/laptop computers, and my clients all install the software fine. I have another separate OU that covers our new Server 2012 RD session hosts. Previously, we've manually installed applications on our one Terminal Server. Now we have one Broker and two Session Hosts. I'd like to take my existing GPO, assign it to the session hosts, and have it install on the next reboot after a gpupdate so I'm sure that each is identically configured. Given this info: Should I be able to install applications via GPO to Session Hosts? Will Group Policy automatically install the applications as if I put the session host into /install mode, or do I need to do that?

• Outstanding Silverlight User Group Meeting last night

  We had a great Silverlight User Group Meeting in Phoenix last night! Before I go any farther I want to say thanks again to David Silverlight and Kim Schmidt for coming to talk to us! And not to forget Victor Gaudioso over the wire :) David, Kim, and Victor talked to us about the Silverlight User Group Starter Kit they are working on with an extended stellar list of talented developers. Don't bypass looking at this by thinking it's only for a User Group... this is a solid community-supported full-up application using MVVM and Ria Services that you could take and modify for your own use. Take a look at the list of developers. Chances are you know some of them... send them an email of thanks for all the hard work over the last year! David and Kim discussed the architecture and code, demonstrating features as they went. Then Victor came in through the application itself on a high-intensity live webcast from his home in California. The audience of about 15 seemed focused and interested which says a lot about the subject and presentation. Tim Heuer came bearing some gifts (swag) ... a hard-copy of Josh Smith's Advanced MVVM , and couple cheaply upgradeable copies of VS2008 Pro that were snatched up very quickly. We also gave away a few copies of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, some Arc mice, and some Office 2007 disks... so I don't think anyone left empty-handed. Personal thanks from me go out to Mike Palermo and Tim Heuer for the surprise they had waiting for me that's been over Twitter, and to Victor for only mentioning it at least 3 times in a 5-minute webcast. Thanks for a great evening, and I look forward to seeing all of you in a couple weeks at MIX10!

  As you might know, I lived and worked on LI, NY for 11 years before relocating to South Florida. • Why the R# Method Group Refactoring is Evil

  The refactoring I’m talking about is recommended by resharper when it sees a lambda that consists entirely of a method call that is passed the object that is the parameter to the lambda. Here is an example: public class IWishIWasAScriptingLanguage { public void SoIWouldntNeedAllThisJunk() { (new List<int> {1, 2, 3, 4}).Select(n => IsEven(n)); } private bool IsEven(int number) { return number%2 == 0; } } When resharper gets to n => IsEven(n) it underlines the lambda with a green squiggly telling me that the code can be replaced with a method group. If I apply the refactoring the code becomes: public class IWishIWasAScriptingLanguage { public void SoIWouldntNeedAllThisJunk() { (new List<int> {1, 2, 3, 4}).Select(IsEven); } private bool IsEven(int number) { return number%2 == 0; } } The method group syntax implies that the lambda’s parameter is the same as the IsEven method’s parameter. So a readable, explicit syntax has been replaced with an obfuscated, implicit syntax. That is why the method group refactoring is evil.

• Trouble recording unique regex output to array in perl

I have confirmed my regex statement works so I am simplifying that so as not to focus on it. • processing of Group Policy failed only on 2008 Servers and Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller

  Spent last 3 months doing a upgrade from 2003 domain to a 2008R2 domain. our last DC was rebuilt (5 total) and brought up on line. After it was put on line we have some 2008 and 2008R2 servers (10 now) getting these errors in the event logs. ERRORS Description: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the user name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).\ Can duplicate this if we drop to command prompt and run GPUPDATE manually When our users attempt to do a \directory\shared access to shared drive on an affected server get this error.– “THERE ARE CURRETLY NO LOGON SERVER AVAIALBE TO SERICE THE LOGON REQUEST. This is only affecting the 2008 OS and it is a random set of abotu 10 servers out of some 30 with this OS. The Services on the machines are running Ok and login. Able to log in with domain/user to the consoles and via RDP. WE can log onto an affected machine, and can get to the \domainname\sysvol and can see the GPO's Have checked the replication topology of the domain and it states all servers can replicate with no errrors. We went back to the last DC, demoted it, removed DNS and then removed it from the domain and waited 24 hours and issue still persist. Picked one server, removed it from domain, reboooted, and added back to domain with no problems, but still has this behavior. bottom line is we have some servers that the domain will not let any UDP/client server apps or GPO's process ,but the tcp related items seeme to work fine, http, tcp calls, sql and oracle dbs's connect and process. Any inputs on some possible reasons for this issue and fixes. It is only affecting the 2008 servers on a 2008R2 domain.

• How far should one take e-mail address validation?

  I'm wondering how far people should take the validation of e-mail address. My field is primarily web-development, but this applies anywhere. I've seen a few approaches: simply checking if there is an "@" present, which is dead simply but of course not that reliable. a more complex regex test for standard e-mail formats a full regex against RFC 2822 - the problem with this is that often an e-mail address might be valid but it is probably not what the user meant DNS validation SMTP validation As many people might know (but many don't), e-mail addresses can have a lot of strange variation that most people don't usually consider (see RFC 2822 3.4.1), but you have to think about the goals of your validation: are you simply trying to ensure that an e-mail address can be sent to an address, or that it is what the user probably meant to put in (which is unlikely in a lot of the more obscure cases of otherwise 'valid' addresses). An option I've considered is simply giving a warning with a more esoteric address but still allowing the request to go through, but this does add more complexity to a form and most users are likely to be confused. While DNS validation / SMTP validation seem like no-brainers, I foresee problems where the DNS server/SMTP server is temporarily down and a user is unable to register somewhere, or the user's SMTP server doesn't support the required features. How might some experienced developers out here handle this? Are there any other approaches than the ones I've listed? Edit: I completely forgot the most obvious of all, sending a confirmation e-mail! Thanks to answerers for pointing that one out. Yes, this one is pretty foolproof, but it does require extra hassle on the part of everyone involved. The user has to fetch some e-mail, and the developer needs to remember user data before they're even confirmed as valid.

  I have several posts on a website; all these posts are chat conversations of this type: AD: Hey! BC: What's up? AD: Nothing BC: Okay They're marked up as simple paragraphs surrounded by <p> tags. Using the javascript replace function, I want all instances of "AD" in the beginning of a conversation (ie, all instances of "AD" at the starting of a line followed by a ":") to be surrounded by <strong> tags, but only if the instance isn't already surrounded by a <strong> tag. What regex should I use to accomplish this? Am I trying to do what this advises against?   Hello, I am trying to replace some text in a string with different text while retaining some of the text and I am having trouble doing it. My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); /Replace M2 with M3 (this works fine) content = Regex.Replace(content, "M2", "M3"); I want to replace a string that contains this: Z0.1G0H1E1 and turn it into: G54G43Z.1H1M08 (Note the Z value and the H value contain the same numeric value before the text change) The trouble I am having is that when I replace the values, I need to retain the H value and the Z value from the first set of text. For example, Z0.5G0H5E1 I need to add the new text, but also add the H5 and Z0.5 back into the text such as: G54G43Z0.5H5M08 But the Z values and H values will be different every time, so I need to capture those values and reinsert them back into the string when add the new G54G43 values.   Hello StackOverFlow, My first question and Im excited... I've lurked since go-live and love the site, however I apologize for any newbie errors, formatting, etc... I'm attempting to validate the format of a string field that contains a date in Java. We will receive the date in a string, I will validate its format before parsing it into a real Date object. The format being passed in is in the YYYY-MM-DD format. However I'm stuck on one of my tests, if I pass in "1999-12-33" the test will fail (as it should with a day number 33) with this incomplete pattern: ((19|20)\\d{2})-([1-9]|0[1-9]|1[0-2])-([12][0-9]|3[01]) However as soon as I add the characters in bold below it passes the test (but should not) ((19|20)\\d{2})-([1-9]|0[1-9]|1[0-2])-(0[1-9]|[1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01]) *additional note, I know I can change the 0[1-9]|[1-9] into 0?[1-9] but I wanted to break everything down to its most simple format to try and find why this isn't working.   I'm trying to to convert an existing PHP Regular Expression match case to apply to a slightly different style of document. Here's the original style of the document: **FOODS - TYPE A** ___________________________________ **PRODUCT** 1) Mi Pueblito Queso Fresco Authentic Mexican Style Fresh Cheese; 2) La Fe String Cheese **CODE** Sell by date going back to February 1, 2009 And the successfully-running PHP Regex match code that only returns "true" if the line is surrounded by asterisks, and stores each side of the "-" as $m[1] and $m[2], respectively. if ( preg_match('#^\*\*([^-]+)(?:-(.*))?\*\*$#', $line, $m) ) { // only for **header - subheader** $m[2] is set. if ( isset($m[2]) ) { return array(TYPE_HEADER, array(trim($m[1]), trim($m[2]))); } else { return array(TYPE_KEY, array($m[1])); } } So, for line 1: $m[1] = "FOODS" AND $m[2] = "TYPE A"; Line 2 would be skipped; Line 3: $m[1] = "PRODUCT", etc. The question: How would I re-write the above regex match if the headers did not have the asterisks, but still was all-caps, and was at least 4 characters long? • A regex I have working in Ruby doesn't in PHP; what could the cause be?

  I do not know ruby. I am trying to use the following regex that was generated by ruby (namely by http://www.a-k-r.org/abnf/ running on the grammar given rfc1738) in php. It is failing to match in php, but it is successfully matching in ruby. Given the ABNF in an rfc, I want a way (in php) to check if an arbitrary string is in the grammar. APG fails to compile on a 64-bit system, VTC is not Free, and I have not found any other such tools. I would also prefer not to use a regex, but it's the closest I've come to success.

• How do I get rid of this "(" using regex?

  Hi there, I was moving along on a regex expression and I have hit a road block I can't seem to get around. I am trying to get rid of "(" in the middle of a line of text using regex, there were 2 but I figured out how to get the one on the end of the line. its the one in the middle I can hack out. Here is the snippet I am searching for in the config file. I put 2 examples. guestOSAltName = "Ubuntu Linux (64-bit)" guestOSAltName = "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" Here is the snippet I am working on. if ($vmx_file =~ m/^\bguestOSAltName\b\s+\S\s+\W(?<GUEST_OS> .+[^")])\W/xm) { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "$+{GUEST_OS}"; } else { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "N/A"; } I am thinking the problem is I cannot make a match to "(" because the expression before that is to ".+" so that it matches everything in the line of text, be it alphanumeric or whitespace or even symbols like hypens. Any ideas how I can get this to work? • Problems with LDAP auth in Apache, works only for one group

• NIS user not being added to NIS group

  I have set up a NIS server and several NIS clients. I have a user and a group on the NIS server like so: /etc/passwd: myself:x:5000:5000:,,,:/home/myself:/bin/bash /etc/group: fishy:x:3001:otheruser,etc,myself,moreppl I imported the users and groups on the NIS client by adding +:::::: to /etc/passwd and +::: to /etc/group. I can log in to the NIS client, but when I run groups, fishy is not listed. But getent group fishy shows that it was imported correctly and lists me as a member. And if I do sudo su - myself, then suddenly groups says I am in the group! I also had nscd installed, and the groups worked correctly for a while. It seemed like after being logged in for a while, I would silently be dropped out of the group. If I restarted nscd and logged in again, then the groups worked correctly...for a while. There are no UID or GID conflicts with local users or groups. Update: Contents of /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: compat group: compat shadow: compat hosts: files nis dns networks: files protocols: db files services: db files ethers: db files rpc: db files netgroup: nis aliases: nis files

SQL Bangalore – we had very first meeting on Nov 24, 2012 and very soon we are going to have another User Group meeting. The goal is to keep up a monthly rhythm of User Group meeting. If you are in Bangalore area please join the Facebook page and you will keep on getting regular update about SQL Server. In the very first meeting we have five 30 minute session and had a fantastic time. We had the best of the best speakers presenting all the five sessions. The event was inaugurated by Vinod Kumar M by presenting on T-SQL Pitfalls. His excellent and eye-opening session was followed by Manas Dash. He enlightened everybody with functions introduced in SQL Server 2012. We had a surprise guest from Mumbai – Raj Chaodhary. If you know him he has a very interesting way to present sessions and he presented on SQL Joins. His hard to follow act was followed by Sudeepta who presented on Contained Database. This subject is quite entertaining and interesting. My session was last in order and I was eagerly waiting to present. I had decided to do something new this time so I had created around 52 slides and two demos. I was committed to go over all the 52 slides and both of the demos in 25 minutes of the time. I had interesting story as well. Though, I was a bit nervous I was able to go over a complete slide deck and demo in 25 minutes of the time I had. We also were very fortunate to have international guest Lynn Langit from USA present at the event as well. She presented an overview of the Big Data in very little time – something not everyone can do it efficiently. We are very thankful to our sponsor Pluralsight for awarding USD 300 worth Annual Subscription. It was the most awaited moment of the day. Well, overall we had a great fun with 100+ attendees learning SQL Server.
