  • Set 802.1Q tagged port on VLAN1 on Dell PowerConnect switch

    I'm having big troubles when adding this Dell switch to my network. Here we use several VLANs to segment traffic. All switches (3com and DLink mostly) have configured the same VLANs, most ports are 'untagged' and belong to a single VLAN, except for the ports used to join together the switches (in a star topology), these ports belong to all VLANs and use 802.1Q tags. So far, it works really well. But on this new switch (a Dell PowerConnect 5448), the settings are very different (and confusing). I have configured the same VLANs, an the uplink ports are set in 'general' mode (supposed to be fully 802.1Q compliant), I can set the VLAN membership as 'T' on these ports for all VLANs except VLAN 1. It always stay as 'U' on VLAN 1. Any ideas?

  • Cannot set audio input volume (internal microphone) on mac

    On a macbook air (MacOS X 10.6.5), when doing skype calls people are complaining they hear me very low - so I had a look to the system preferences under audio and noticed the input volume was 54%. I am now trying to set the input volume to 100%. To my surprise the volume is gradually set back as I speak. I tried deselecting 'use ambient noise reduction' but it doesn't help.' Is there any way to avoid this volume auto-setting feature? Any help appreciated!

When I visit a new website a new thumbnail is created for that site in the sixth spot. Wanting to place Facebook at the sixth location I deleted the new thumbnail and visited Facebook again. But the sixth place remains vacant no matter how often I visit Facebook. What can I do to set a specific thumbnail position a particular site?

    assume i have a domain name which will be forwarded to my public ip (web server) automatically. in IIS 6, ip is public ip port is 6666, advanced - host value is www.hello.com firewall is open for 6666(web server port) and 53(DNS port), DMZ of router is my physical address in DNS, i have already had a zone called oldhello.com. And i expect a new domain name. So i have addded a new zone called hello.com and checked SOA server (P) is one.hello.local. then added a new host called one, full name is one.hello.com, ip address 192.168.7.3(my address in router) and then add a alias(CNAME) www, full name is www.hello.com, FQDN i choose the host i added before (one.hello.com) i expected that when i type the public ip in browser, can it be changed to domain name automatically. if not set host value www.hello.com, use public ip i can see the web however, after set up host value www.hello.com, browser show bad request invalid hostname

  • How can I set Qmail to relay all mail to one address

    I'm new to qmail it's setup and working like it should. I need to set it to do something a bit different. I need it to take all mail that would be incoming to it and relay all of that to one address as opposed to whatever address they could have possibly set it to. The idea is we have setup a test enviroment and we want no e-mails from a test server to actually go out to real people so this relay server will catch all of that outgoing mail and throw it into a test e-mail account inbox to check for errors and so forth. I'm honestly not sure if this is even possible so if it's not let me know now so I can come up with a different method to manage all these test e-mails. Thanks

There is a very good tutorial here that describe how to set it up. My problem is that I need to set up a subdomain subd1.example.com that will be severed on another VPS. I tried to add subdmn1.mymaindomain.com. IN 1.2.3.5 (Assuming that my destination IP is 1.2.3.5) Then I nsdc rebuild service nsd3 restart However the subdmn1.mymaindomain.com fails to resolve to the IP. Any clues will be much appreciated.

(first one in the range) Please help me with this issue.

    I frequently work in different locations, and need to have a virtualbox version of Ubuntu server running locally. While I was at home getting it set up, I was able to ssh into the server using the locally allocated IP address. However, now that I'm elsewhere, ifconfig is still showing the old 10.0.x.x ip address, but instead of being in the 10.0.x.x space, my laptop's ip starts with 192.168.x.x With that in mind, if there a straightforward way to set up the virtual box Ubuntu server in such a way that I can just connect using "ssh servername" regardless of it's ip address?

    I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm unable to find a clear set of instructions. I'm currently using LogMeIn Hamachi to enable Windows 8's Remote Desktop feature on my home computer (running Win8 Pro x64). Unfortunatley, I can't use this method to access my home computer from my Surface Tablet, as I can't install in the Hamachi client. So how can I set up Remote Desktop without using LogMeIn Hamachi? A link to a noob-friendly tutorial would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything that I understand (and I am pretty technical, router stuff just stumps me for some reason). EDIT: And I don't want to use a third party service like TeamViewer, in my experience those tools are laggy and quite horrible. The Remote Desktop feature has been excellent.

    I'm a newbie. I just bought a new dedicated server which running windows server 2008 r2 and have an ip for example 128.98.34.112. I bought a domain xyz.com without hosting from godaddy.com and i want to host it to my new server. in godaddy.com i already follow this steps http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=237604. i also have installed plesk in my new server and create a domain with the name xyz.com and set the A record for xyz.com to 128.98.34.112, and set the NS record to ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com. But until now i still can not open the xyz.com from browser. Whats wrong? Do I need to install active directory to host a domain? thanks

  • Unable to sunchronize local and remote directories ("set times: Operation not permitted")

    I'm running into FTP errors using software like NetBeans or WinSCP: whenever I attempt to perform a synchronization or update of files from local -- server I get errors on the client saying "set times: Operation not permitted". This is clearly an issue with the way I've configured my Fedora installation. The user that I'm logging in with cannot touch -t any of these files, though he IS part of a group that has r/w access on the files. I do have root / sudo access to this server. What I would like to know is: a) is it likely that this problem would be solved by allowing my FTP user to "touch -t" these files b) how do I enable a certain user to be able to set timestamps on files without giving them ownership of the files (certain of these files need to be owned by Apache, for instance, so I don't want to chown them).     I'm trying to set up an HP OFficejet Pro 8500 A909a on my Windows XP machine over the network. I know the IP address of the printer but it's unclear to me how to set it up based on that. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this problem. I've tried installing the drivers but when I do that it tells me the printer is on a different gateway from my workstation, which is not true. Also, other people in the office are able to connect to this printer just fine, although the driver apparently didn't work for them, either.

  • Users own mapped network drives disappear when I set a GPP mapped drive

    All the clients use Windows 7 SP1 x64 Enterprise. The domain controllers are Windows Server 2008 R2. I have configured the GPP to map "\server\data" to first available drive letter starting with I:. The action is replace and I have set the Hide/Show this drive and Hide/Show all drives to "Show". I have set targeting to a specified security group. This works as expected and the drive is mapped to the correct users. The problem is that if the user has created their own mapped drives these mappings will disappear when the GPP mapping is applied. Only the mapped drives from the GPP is shown in Explorer. I have not found any other mention of this particular problem when I search the Internet and on TechNet there is no mention of what happens to drives already mapped.

    I am looking to set up a small network for a client which would be isolated from his primary network. (I'm hoping to set-up the additional network as VMs on the primary network.) I've instructed the client to request a bunch of static ip addresses from his ISP, but I'm not sure how to proceed with setting this up. What hardware will I need and how do I go about the configuration? Heavy security is not my concern. All that's really required is that web requests from the two networks be presented to the outside world with different ip addresses.

    I'm trying to figure out which processes are deleting files from a specific directory, so I want to set up and run auditd on my system. I've set up the following rule in audit.rules: -w S unlink -S truncate -S ftruncate -a exit,always -k cache_deletion -w /home/myfolder/cache Then I type this to start the audit daemon: auditctl -R /etc/audit/audit.rules -e 1 But I get this error message: Error - nested rule files not supported Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here, and how I can resolve this? Also, what do I have to do to get the daemon running at startup?

I have Windows 7 x64 ent. - name: backupfb - added to domain with shared folder on drive e: (e:\backup) 50 clients/laptops with TSM Tivoli fastback for workstations who save files on shared folder And I need to configure proper permission for my shared folders that only owner of folder can access to their folders. Folder structure is: e:\backup <- shared as a "backup" folder \\backupfb\backup\ e:\backup\BackupAdmin <-- directory is used by the Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for Workstations client to download revisions and configurations. Nodes require read-only access to these directories e:\backup\RealTimeBackup <-- enable client accounts to create directories that are only accessible by the account that created them. As a result, the directory that contains data for a node is not created until that node connects to the server.     I need to set up a server that will eventually be accessed from an Android application. I don't have experience with how to go about this, but I've seen MySQL servers (Amazon EC2). I would need to store data on the server remotely (again, from a mobile device) and fetch it to display. What would be the best kind of server to use? I'm guessing I would only need around 50 GB of space. Is it possible to use a network drive and set that up as a remote server with an IP address? I am not able to understand why is it not being deleted. Also while deleting I could see compareTo method is called. But it is called for only 3 object whereas in set there are 8 objects. Thanks

  • Quickest algorithm for finding sets with high intersection

    I have a large number of user IDs (integers), potentially millions. These users all belong to various groups (sets of integers), such that there are on the order of 10 million groups. To simplify my example and get to the essence of it, let's assume that all groups contain 20 user IDs (i.e., all integer sets have a cardinality of 100). I want to find all pairs of integer sets that have an intersection of 15 or greater. Should I compare every pair of sets? (If I keep a data structure that maps userIDs to set membership, this would not be necessary.) What is the quickest way to do this? That is, what should my underlying data structure be for representing the integer sets? Sorted sets, unsorted---can hashing somehow help? And what algorithm should I use to compute set intersection)? I prefer answers that relate C/C++ (especially STL), but also any more general, algorithmic insights are welcome. Update Also, note that I will be running this in parallel in a shared memory environment, so ideas that cleanly extend to a parallel solution are preferred.
