• Migrate from Thunderbird to Mutt

  I am contemplating moving from Thunderbird to Mutt (provided it is feasible) to move to a faster, simpler application. My current Thunderbird set-up consists of multiple IMAP accounts (gmail and google apps). Only selected folders (read labels) in each IMAP account are stored locally. For all other folders, I glance through the headers and open a message only if I find it interesting. I also use folder bookmarks to navigate to folders quickly. I also move messages across folders with keyboard shortcuts. Is it possible to replicate the set-up in Mutt? Can someone share/ point to a sample muttrc file that does the same thing? It would be great if the muttrc file is adequately commented. On a side note, will it also be possible to import my messages from Thunderbird locally? That will save me considerable network traffic (about 2GB data stored locally).

Now the issues is that for one folder it works perfect, but for 80 to 90 folders it is taking too much time. I think it's because of findstr and the different extensions used. Is there any way to make it faster?

• Does UIScrollView have a special content view for making the scrolling possible?

  I wonder if UIScrollView has got an "hidden" subview acting as an container for the content. If I scroll a scroll view, is that content view moved up/down in the scroll view? Or is the scrolling offset applied to the bounds of that UIScrollView instance? Or: Does UIScrollView use an additional view as container, or is all content added directly to the view? The documentation doesn't tell much about wether it has a content container or not.

  I have a Folder entity that can be Moderated by users. Folders can contain other folders. So I may have a structure like this: Folder 1 Folder 2 Folder 3 Folder 4 I have to decide how to implement Moderation for this entity. I've come up with two options: Option 1 When the user is given moderation privileges to Folder 1, define a moderator relationship between Folder 1 and User 1. No other relationships are added to the db. To determine if the user can moderate Folder 3, I check and see if User 1 is the moderator of any parent folders. This seems to alleviate some of the complexity of handling updates / moved entities / additions under Folder 1 after the relationship has been defined, and reverting the relationship means I only have to deal with one entity. Option 2 When the user is given moderation privileges to Folder 1, define a new relationship between User 1 and Folder 1, and all child entities down to the grandest of grandchildren when the relationship is created, and if it's ever removed, iterate back down the graph to remove the relationship. If I add something under Folder 2 after this relationship has been made, I just copy all Moderators into the new Entity. But when I need to show only the top-level Folders that a user is Moderating, I need to query all folders that have a parent folder that the user does not moderate, as opposed to option 1, where I just query any items that the user is moderating. I think it comes down to determining if users will be querying for all parent items more than they'll be querying child items... if so, then option 1 seems better. But I'm not sure. Is either approach better than the other? Why? Or is there another approach that's better than both? I'm using Entity Framework in case it matters.

  Is there a fast method for taking the modulus of a floating point number? With integers, there are tricks for Mersenne primes, so that its possible to calculate y = x MOD 2^31 without needing division. Can any similar tricks be applied for floating point numbers? Preferably, in a way that can be converted into vector/SIMD operations, or moved into GPGPU code. The primes I'm interested in would be 2^7 and 2^31, although if there are more efficient ones for floating point numbers, those would be welcome.

  I'm building a Drupal theme up and want to know if there is a Drupalish way to add a css file only if the user has js turned off. This would ideally go in the theme.info file to keep it neat! Something like this would be ideal: conditional-stylesheets[if no javascript][all][] = nojs.css If this isn't possible then I'm going to keep all the css that needs JS out of the css files, and add it dynamically using JS but this seems a bit messy... Any ideas?

  When I call CaptureMouse() in response to a MouseDown from the middle mouse button, it will capture and then release the mouse. Huh? I've tried using Preview events, setting Handled=true, doesn't make a difference. Am I not understanding mouse capture in WPF?   I have a web application that reads the values of a few input fields (alphanumeric) and constructs a very simple xml that is passes to the server, using jQuery's $.ajax() method. The template for that xml is: <request> <session>[some-string]</session> <space>[some-string]</space> <plot>[some-string]</plot> ... </request> Sending such requests to the server when the inputs contain Finnish diacritical characters (such as ä or ö) raises a problem in terms of character encoding with different browsers. For instance, if I add the word Käyttötarkoitus" in one of the inputs, here's how Chrome and Firefox send EXACTLY the same request to the server: Chrome: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> FF 12.0: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> And here is the code fragment that I use to send the requests: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: url, dataType: 'xml;charset=UTF-8', data: xml, success: function(xml) { // }, error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { // } }); Why do I get different encodings and how do I get rid of this difference?   After peeking at the SO source, I noticed this tag: <link rel="apple-itouch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png" /> Which after a quick Google revealed an Apple "favicon" type thing for display on your homepage ("WebClip Bookmark" to be exact). The only other one that jumps to mind is the: <input type="search" results="5"/> This type="search" causes the field to "inherit" the Apple search icon, and the optional results="x" enables a history of "x" keywords to be maintained. I'm therefore wondering, what other Apple/Safari (iPhone/iPod Touch) specific HTML tags and attributes are out there that I'm not aware of! Curious minds need to know!

• Can Visual Studio exclude certain folders when searching for header files?

  I'm having trouble with a library that we are using, which has two copies of header files that are needed - one which we are modifying and building from and another which is automatically created during the build process. I don't fully know why or really want to change this but it can cause a bit of annoyance when on random occasions the go to definition function takes you to the auto created header instead of the one used to build. Usually you can spot it but sometimes you don't and make changes to the auto created one, which are then overwritten or sometimes stay around for a while so that something works on your machine but breaks on other peoples. I don't know if there is any way around this as the auto created folder is in the additional include directories of some of the projects in the solution but I just thought I would ask if there was any good way of reducing the chance of this annoying situation cropping up.

  I've always assumed that the VB6 help was just deficient in that few (or no) examples were included. But it does have the link for Example in the help, it's just greyed out and not accessible. Then I thought "maybe there's just something extra in the MSDN that needs to be installed". Any ideas?
