• How can I create XML from Perl?

  Hello I need to create XML in Perl. From what I read, XML::LibXML is great for parsing and using XML that comes from somewhere else. Does anyone have any suggestions for an XML Writer? Is XML::Writer still maintained? Does anyone like/use it? In addition to feature-completeness, I am interested an easy-to-use syntax, so please describe the syntax and any other reasons why you like that module in your answer.   I am developing a Java Desktop Application but have some confusions in choosing a technology for my persistence layer. Till now, I have been using JDBC for DB operations. Now, Recently I learnt Hibernate and JPA but still I am a novice on these technologies. Now my question is What to use for my Java Desktop Application from the following? JPA Hibernate JDBC DAO any other suggestion from you... I know that there is no best choice from them and it totally depends on the complexity and the requeirements of the project so below are the requirements of my project It's not a complex application. It contains only 5 tables (and 5 entities) I wan't to make my code flexible so that I can change the database later easily The size of the application should remain as small as possible as I will have to distribute it to my clients through internet. • CDATA xml parsing extra greater than problem

  Hi, I am creating an xml using php and parsing that xml in iphone application code. In description field there is some html tags and text. I am using following line to convert this html tags in to xml tag using CDATA. $response .= '<desc><![CDATA['.trim($feed['fulltext']).']]></desc>'; Now, here my $feed['fulltext'] value is like this <span class="ABC">...text...</span> In xml I am getting following response, <desc><![CDATA[><span class"ABC">...text...</span>]]></desc> You can see here, I am getting an extra greater-than symbol just before the value of $feed['fulltext'] starts. (like this: ...text...) Any solution or suggestion for this? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

• Custom event listener on Android app

  Hi everybody, I need to set up a simple event listener to refresh a listview from once in a while. The problem is I don't know how could I generate an event. I know that for events like key or button pressing I just need to implement the handler. But in this specific case I actually need to generate the event, which will be fired everytime another running thread of my app wakes up and refreshes it's list of news from a rss feed. • Loading tables dynamically with NHibernate

  I'm working on a project that requires me to load tables based on table names stored in another table. More tables will be added to the DB (and by someone else), so creating NHibernate mapping files for each table isn't an option. Does anyone know if it is possible to load tables dynamically using NHibernate? Edit: I should add that I'm on .NET 2.0, so I can't use Fluent NHibernate. Thanks for the suggestion though guys. I will use that as evidence in convincing my associates to upgrade.

• DataType for storing a long serial number (10 bytes)

  We have a device which has a 10 byte serial number which must be read into our application and stored into a .net datatype. In the device it is stored as an unsigned 10-byte (80-bit) number. I don't expect we will be performing any mathematical operations on this number, but only displaying it to the user. The .NET framework doesn't have a built in UNIT128 to store this datatype. My suggestion for storing this datatype is to create a 10 element byte array and read in the data into this array. Are there any better solutions to this problem? Note: I have seen in this question that a GUID is a 128 byte signed integer, but it seems like a bad idea to use a GUID in this fashion. Any other suggestions?

• Artificially create a connection timeout error

  I've had a bug in our software that occurs when I receive a connection timeout. These errors are very rare (usually when my connection gets dropped by our internal network). How can I generate this kind of effect artificially so I can test our software? If it matters the app is written in C++/MFC using CAsyncSocket classes. Edit: I've tried using a non-existant host, and I get the socket error: WSAEINVAL (10022) Invalid argument My next attempt was to use Alexander's suggestion of connecting to a different port, e.g. 81 (on my own server though). That worked great. Exactly the same as a dropped connection (60 second wait, then error). Thank you!

• Why is activeX failing to create an object from a Labview executable?

  Here is my scenario. I am using Quicktest Pro (VB) to create an ActiveX object from a Labview VI that I built into an executable. In the build specs of the VI I have enabled ActiveX server option (ActiveX server name: "MyLabviewProgram") and in the VI ToolsOptionsVI Server: Configuration the ActiveX box is checked. So in QTP my code is: Set IvApp = CreateObject("MyLabviewProgram.Application") Set Vi = IvApp.getVIReference("MyLabviewVI.vi") Vi.Call ParamNames, ParamVals Upon running this I get a Run Error on the first line: ActiveX component can't create object: 'MyLabviewProgram.Application' I am having trouble figuring out why it errors. From National Instruments website they have a step in on one of their community pages about "LabVIEW Executable Used as ActiveX Server". The step is after building the EXE, 5. Run the EXE at least once on the target to activate the .TLB file. I've run the executable but not sure what they mean by on the target. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I need to do to get this working?

• Sign Up/Login system for multi-domain/multi-server

  I'm thinking about a good solution for implementing a sign up/login system that works across different domains and servers. A working example is Olx (you can register in one domain, and your login will work in the rest of domains). The scenario is that every domain (one per country) has its own database. And there will be 2 servers (for example), each one will have the 50% of the domains (and so the 50% of databases). What would you suggest to start with? Database: MySQL 5.1 Server-side language: PHP 5.3 (I will be using Symfony 1.4, so if someone has some suggestion for this framework, it will be interesting too, although it is optional)

• Cannot find code completion and suggestions in Aptana 2.0

  Greetings, I recently started using Aptana 1.5 to work on a site via FTP, developing pages in .php format with a mixture of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and -- naturally -- PHP. I develop a page with all of these elements together to save time, then separate them. One thing that I really liked about Aptana 1.5 was that it completed code (brackets, parentheses, etc) and suggested things as I typed. I upgraded to 2.0 today and cannot figure out for the life of me how to bring back all of these capabilities -- or remember if I had to do anything in 1.5 to get them. Here is a picture of what I am looking for Notice the suggestion for margin: and the "HTML, Js, CSS" up top. Any help with getting this to work in 2.0 would be greatly appreciated. Ever since installing 2.0, 1.5 has been throwing error messages and I can't seem to get my FTP settings to stay locked in.

  I have a history table and I need to select the values from this table in ColumnName, ColumnValue form. I am using SQL Server 2008 and I wasn’t sure if I could use the PIVOT function to accomplish this. • CLR Function not working in restored database

  So I've restore a database with CLR assemblies in it from one physical server to another. One of the functions in the CLR assembly essentially does an uncompress of some compressed data. When I run this function against data in the restored database it returns the compressed data (rather than the uncompressed data). No error is thrown in SSMS or in the SQL server error logs. At the suggestion of others, I've checked differences in the database ownership (both owned by sa), trustworthiness (both set to not trustworthy). I also checked differences in the .NET framework installs on both machines but found only that the target machine had a 1.1 version installed that the source didn't. I don't know what else to try. I've been using Eclipse with the C++ pluging , for C development, for the last couple months, but I found it not very useful, especially the debugging process that was quite annoying. I love Vistal Studio, so I'm looking for something really close to it. I need an IDE that will provide me, among other things: - rich debugging options - easy to use graphical designer - underscores error/warning (before I compile - like eclipse has) - Intellisense and more... • Lightweight PHP library alternative to common MVC frameworks

  Hi hi, I'm looking for a easy to learn php library to use for my coming web app project. I've recently finished a web app with fully handwritten raw php code and it's absolutely hard to be done again for another project. even though I have the recent project code snippets to be used again, but due to their non-structural arrangement (not object oriented), i have no passion to use 'em again. I have no experience with common frameworks like ZF, CakePhp, CodeIgniter, so I think to get my hands on a multipurpose OO library for my web app and the framework learning will be the next step! any suggestion? UPDATE: Many thanks guys, I have not enough time to get through the depth of every lib or framework you have kindly introduced. Since I'm going one step further I'm going to use ZF as famous framework which could provide me more job opportunities perhaps. thankssss :)

  Hi. I search solution for ticket managment system. Do you know any commercial offers? For now I have only own dev prjects with using dspam library. Maybe I am wrong use it but it show bad results. My idea was divide all prerated ticket in 2 group: spam (it is my category) and rest to (ham - all not the same with this category). After that i trained my dspam. After I redivide all tickets in new groups (for next category) and teach dspam again (with new user - by category name)... And it works bad... My thoughs about is - bad data base tickes (i mean not correct tagging before) - bad my algorythm (it is more posible) Please give me a direction to go forward. Thanks. • Simulating C-style for loops in python

  (even the title of this is going to cause flames, I realize) Python made the deliberate design choice to have the for loop use explicit iterables, with the benefit of considerably simplified code in most cases. However, sometimes it is quite a pain to construct an iterable if your test case and update function are complicated, and so I find myself writing the following while loops: val = START_VAL while <awkward/complicated test case>: # do stuff ... val = <awkward/complicated update> The problem with this is that the update is at the bottom of the while block, meaning that if I want to have a continue embedded somewhere in it I have to: use duplicate code for the complicated/awkard update, AND run the risk of forgetting it and having my code infinite loop I could go the route of hand-rolling a complicated iterator: def complicated_iterator(val): while <awkward/complicated test case>: yeild val val = <awkward/complicated update> for val in complicated_iterator(start_val): if <random check>: continue # no issues here # do stuff This strikes me as waaaaay too verbose and complicated. Do folks in stack overflow have a simpler suggestion?

• Making a rectangular selection in a RichTextBox with Alt-Left-Mouse sweep?

  There are quite a few applications that allow you to select a box or rectangle of text by sweeping with mouse while the Alt key is pressed. Visual Studio 2010 does this in the code editor, for instance. Emacs does it. Winword does it. We've all seen it. It seems like there must be a standard pattern to follow to encode this behavior but I cannot seem to find it. I suspect I am not Googling with the correct keywords as all I am getting are false hits on rectangle, Alt-Left, sweep, selection, etc. I'm sure I can code it up but it would mean disabling the normal selection code used in, say, RichTextBox. And that sounds ugly, error prone and probably more work than it is worth. Anybody have a suggestion (be nice! :-) ) of how to do this or an example of how it is done?

  Lets say i have an activity with InArgument<int> ProductId I'd like to expose in the activity designer a combobox to show all Products and the user can select a product. I can show the list of product in the combo no problem. But how do I bind the selected product to the InArgument<int> of my custom activity? I suppose I need some kind of ValueConverter? Not sure how to code the value converter for this case, if anybody has an idea, suggestion, will be helpful. • Slow Speeds when unzipping with PHP onto a NFS, how can I speed it up?

  Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to boost my NFS speed and php uploads. File is uploaded to the webserver's local tmp dir With PHP I copy the file userxxx.zip to the NFS With PHP I extract the userxxx.zip on the NFS to another dir on the NFS. What I'm finding is the file is in Step 3, the file is being read through the NFS by the web server, processed by the web server, and uploaded back across the NFS. Speeds as expected are very slow. Might a possible solution be to get the Fileserver to extract the zip? a) Webserver copies the file to the NFS b) Webserver makes a web service call to the Fileserver c) Fileserver can now unzip the file like it's local and the speeds should be much faster. I would appreciate any suggestion anyone how people have approached this problem. (I'm aware that php ZipArchive() is very slow, and I'll likely use java or php exec unzip to speed it up) Thanks

So far I have looked at Umbraco, which looks good but the help is poor and the getting started video section is empty, and dotnetnuke, which again looks good but I get the impression its aimed at non developers, plus to has much more than I need and want. In my last job I created a basic custom CMS system that worked by simply adding values into the database, the application called the text from there. it worked fine but I don’t have the source code. what I'm after is a simple CMS system that really just controls text and images, I dont need all the fancy stuff thats in umbraco and dotnetnuke, all the design and CSS i can do myself. also as im working with MVC (which is awesome, and such a breath of fresh air compared to the web forms/telerik crap I have to put up with at work) it needs to be compatible.   Hello, I trying to do billing service. Seller can create bill from my website and send to the buyer. Once seller created bill, bill detail will be send to buyer email address. What I want to know is, at the bill information email, can i send payment link whether buyer can click payment link and carried to the paypal payment page directly. Will not be landing or redirecting from our page. Can it be possible ? Because when someone request money from paypal, we get the payment link from paypal which is directly go to the payment page.   Hi, we are currently investigating a migration of an application that doesn't meet company standards. The application is built using VB6 and Shape SQL/Access. The application has about 120 reports by storing Shape SQL strings in a database which the user can modify using a wizard. Shape sql is not allowed at this company. We have investigated plain SQL, Linq, Entity Framework as alternatives... but all result in more complex solutions. Does anyone have another suggestion? • What format do I use to store a relatively small amount of user data

  I am writing a small program for our local high school (pro bono). The program has an interface allows the user to enter school holidays. This is a simple stand alone Windows app. What format should I use to store the data? A big relational data is obviously overkill. My initial plan was to store the data in an XML file. Co-workers have been suggesting that I use JSON files, Access Databases, SQL Lite, and SQL Server Express. There was even a suggestion of old school INI files.
