• Banshee gapless playback does not work when playing mp3s

  Even though I have gapless playback enabled in Banshee's settings menu, there is a very short pause between songs. • All in a Day's Work: Unblocking Multiple Downloaded Files with a Single Command

  Files downloaded using Internet Explorer retain Internet Zone permission level and hence are “Blocked” by default on Windows 7 machines. Honestly, while an added overhead for developers; I really appreciate this feature as it provides a good protection layer for casual web users. My workaround is to simply unblock the downloaded zip file (if download was a zip file) which, in turn, unblocks the files stored within. Today however, I was left with a situation where I had to “Open” and “Copy” the content rather than “Save” a zip file. That of course left me with a few dozen files I have to manually unblock. A few minutes of internet search lead me to the link below which worked like a charm: 1-Download streams.exe from SystInternals - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897440.aspx 2-Go to command prompt (cmd.exe) 3-Navigate to where you have streams.exe installed 4-Use command line switches: streams.exe –s –d “<folder path>” This removed the Internet Zone restrictions from all files under “<folder path>” and its subfolders as well.   Initially this question was limited to 11.10. Now I am in (Lubuntu) 12.10. (On the changes in the question see this meta question). Considering 11.10 I have tried different (or not so different) approaches - that also other users commented here. My main references were: the ubuntu official documentation website on the LBP Canon driver package, this Unixmen solution which partly refers to Radu Cotescu script that aims at providing a near-automated install, and an updated by Unixmen version of that very script (download here). None worked for me.

• Xubuntu keyboard doesn't work properly

  I have installed xubuntu 12.04 but after installation my buttons "d" and "e" doesn't respond properly. When I press "d" on the keypas, it enters automatically giving error as d:command not found, same happenes with Caps lock is on. While presssing "e" i get e+ or +e. Don't know why this weired behaviour, i tired reinstalling xubuntu, but the same think happens again. My keyboard is English(US). Regards,

  I downloaded Indicator-Char and unzipped the files. I added the characters there I wanted perfectly. When I run the python script it loads the daemon and I can see this characters. But the problem is that when I click on them, not copied anything to the clipboard.   This is a really weird question and I apologize: I've been asked if it's possible not to import our blog from Wordpress to Drupal but just keep it in Wordpress as an archive and re-direct our users say from hostname/blog/... to hostname/wordpress/... when a URL matches the Wordpress URL pattern.   I am part of a growing software project with at least 200 active developer in 10 locations. I would like to set up an on-line chat forum for developers because I think it would help to coordinate efforts. We have an email mailing list but I feel like some questions or announcements are too informal to send to everyone while mentioning it in a chat forum might be a useful community resource. I have never participated in a software project that used an on-line chat forum so I would like to hear about peoples experiences. I am particularly interested in technical issues: Use of IRC vs. alternative platforms; how to manage access, eg. for developers only, allowing users to participate; the value of requiring certain announcements to be made on the chat forum eg who is resolving broken builds etc. If I pitch the idea to the community I would like to have some good arguments why it would be a good idea and some prospective of its usefulness in other software projects.

  The standard method of implementing get and set accessors in C# and VB.NET is to use a public property to set and retrieve the value of a corresponding private variable. Am I right in saying that this has no effect of different instances of a variable? By this I mean, if there are different instantiations of an object, then those instances and their properties are completely independent right? So I think my understanding is correct that setting a private variable is just a construct to be able to implement the get and set pattern? Never been 100% sure about this.

• Xfce Power Manager on Xubuntu 13.10 doesn't work

  The problem is that its actually works, but something works with Xfce Power Manager at the same time. For example, I set that if I pressed Suspend button (on my Lenovo B560 its Fn+F2 hotkey) then system ask me what to do. But when Log out window appears, system goes to suspend. Another example is closing the lid. I set it to lock the screen via Xfce Power Manager, but system still goes to suspend. I thought that it might be laptop-mode-tools, but it's not installed. Before 13.10 I had 13.04 and everything were fine.

  Basically what I want to do is to convert this: http://localhost/jariungu/user_caleg.php?idCaleg2014=3 into this: http://localhost/jariungu/caleg/3 I have managed to make /jariungu/caleg/3 to direct to the original URL (as in, if I open that URL, it directs me to the appropriate page). The problem is, once opened, the URL returns to the original, ugly one in the address bar. This is what I tried.   i have problem with in my ubuntu: when i connect external imation apollo disc i dont see a file system. • 10.10 Acer 7551g - hibernation and suspending don't work

  Issue is quite the same like here, I've tried everything I found and nothing happens. If I use uswsusp, suspending works good, but graphics doesn't wake up, when I want to hibernate system, it tells me "Looking for splash system... none s2disk:snapshotting system" and nothing happens. I'm using ATI drivers, i've tried to disable kms, unload usb3 and network drivers, still nothing. Please help me, I don't want to come back to Windows after my 2-year-relationship with Linux. • XNA 2D Top Down game - FOREACH didn't work for checking Enemy and Switch-Tile

  Here is the gameplay. There is three condition. The player step on a Switch-Tile and it became false. 1) When the Enemy step on it (trapped) AND the player step on it too, the Enemy will be destroyed. 2) But when the Enemy step on it AND the player DIDN'T step on it too, the Enemy will be escaped. 3) If the Switch-Tile condition is true then nothing happened. The effect is activated when the Switch tile is false (player step on the Switch-Tile). Because there are a lot of Enemy and a lot of Switch-Tile, I have to use foreach loop. The problem is after the Enemy is ESCAPED (case 2) and step on another Switch-Tile again, nothing happened to the enemy! I didn't know what's wrong. The effect should be the same, but the Enemy pass the Switch tile like nothing happened (They should be trapped) Can someone tell me what's wrong?   I'm probably about to buy a laptop, unfortunely they all have glare screen, even the "premium" device, the actual offer just differentiate on 2-3 variations about DPI and display resolution; considering that i would like a 13" laptop, what can be the best resolution? I was looking for a 4:3 but this days they are all cheap-made so i do not think that something expensive to produce like a 4:3 is on the market. on the 13" laptops i see that basically there are available 3 kinds of displays: 1366x768 ( a 16:9 ratio ) 1400x900 ( a 16:10 ratio ) 1600x900 ( a 16:9 ratio ) Honestly i'm asking for an advice because i do not like this things, not even one of them, but this is the market today, i was looking for some old-style laptop with good plastics, a 4:3 ratio or 5:4 or something like that and a true matte finish with an higher resolution compared to what you could find in the old laptops. Since programming involves the presence of many text character on the screen it's a good thing to choose the one with the highest DPI/PPI ?

  I got to do some image processing program in java using Linux. I chose to use the JMF for my camera (a webcam) access. But my program is not able to access the camera. But, the jmf works well in Windows. I downloaded jmf from oracle.com and I tried to install it in 'Ubuntu 10.10-the Maverick-released in October 2010 and supported until April 2012'.   I'm going through the wildbunny blog to learn about collision detection. I'm confused about how the vectors he's talking about come into play. Here's the part that confuses me: p = ||A-B|| – (r1+r2) The two spheres are penetrating by distance p. We would also like the penetration vector so that we can correct the penetration once we discover it. This is the vector that moves both circles to the point where they just touch, correcting the penetration. Importantly it is not only just a vector that does this, it is the only vector which corrects the penetration by moving the minimum amount. This is important because we only want to correct the error, not introduce more by moving too much when we correct, or too little. N = (A-B) / ||A-B|| P = N*p Here we have calculated the normalised vector N between the two centres and the penetration vector P by multiplying our unit direction by the penetration distance. I understand that p is the distance by which the circles penetrate, but I don't get what exactly N and P are. It seems to me N is just the coordinates of the 3rd point of the right trianlge formed by point A and B (A-B) then being divided by the hypotenuse of that triangle or distance between A and B (||A-B||). What's the significance of this? Also, what is the penetration vector used for? It seems to me like a movement that one of the circles would perform to get un-penetrated.

  I'm working on a website where information is loaded from a calendar. If a user clicks on a link on the calendar, it displays information about that link. If I close that page, and then re-open it, it works properly on both IE and Firefox, but if I open it in chrome, and click on another item on the calendar it instead errors out. Is there a large difference in how chrome brings back tabs from how IE or Firefox do that would cause this?

• Do Nvidia's drivers work in 12.10?

  I recently upgraded to 12.10 and was just checking for proprietary drivers to be installed. I found this in software sources When I enabled Nvidia binary Xorg driver, unity disappears along with the launcher and everything. I just have the wallpaper. I did manage to open the terminal and open software sources and select the nouveau display driver which fixed it. Question is how to enable NVIDIA binary Xorg driver and have everything working? Hardware: Apple MacBook Pro 9,1 Mid 2012 15 inch non-retina. NVIDIA GeForce GT650M EDIT: I tried the solution here. And now, when I boot into Ubuntu, I get a blinking cursor. That's all! No tty1, nothing. help !!

• Collision detection doesn't work for automated elements in XNA 4.0

  I have a really weird problem. I made a 3D simulator of an "assembly line" as a part of a college project. Among other things it needs to be able to detect when a box object passes in front of sensor. I tried to solve this by making a model of a laser and checking if the box collides with it. I had some problems with BoundingSpheres of models meshes so I simply create a BoundingSphere and place it in the same place as the model. I organized them into a list of BoundingSpheres called "spheres" and for each model I create one BoundingSphere. All models except the box are static, so the box object has its own BoundingSphere (not a member of the "spheres" list). I also implemented a picking algorithm that I use to start the movement. But when I comment it (like in this example) the box just passes trough the lasers and does not detect the collision (the idea is that the box stops at each laser and the user passes it forth by clicking on the appropriate "switch").   I'm using ubuntu 10.10 and recently my package manager has stopped working because of some problems with dependencies or something. I can't upgrade, install or uninstall anything at all.
