• Caching for a Custom Repositiory Adapter for WebSphere Portal Virtual Member Manager

  I'm looking at writing a custom repository adapter to interact with Virtual Member Manager on WebSphere Portal 6.1. Basically, its a layer that takes a request in the form of a commonj.sco.DataObject and passes that on to an external web service, to get various information on our logged in users that is not otherwise available in LDAP. I'm concerned about the performance hit of going to a service every time we want to pull some permission from the back end. My question is, can the Virtual Member Manager handle caching of data going in and out of the custom repository adapters, or is that something I'm going to have to build into the adapter myself?

• Converting MS Word Documents to PDF in ASP.NET

  Similar questions have been asked, but nothing exactly like mine, so here goes. We have a collection of Microsoft Word documents on an ASP.NET web server with merge fields whose values are filled in as a result of user form submissions. After the field merge, the server must convert the document to PDF and stream it down to the browser. Our first inclination was to use the Visual Studio Tools for Office API; however, we ran into this warning from Microsoft: Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment. It looks like the field manipulation can be done using the Open XML SDK, but what's the best way to convert Word 2007 documents to PDF without opening Word? The optimal solution would be low-cost, scalable, have a low memory footprint, be easy to deploy, and have a .NET API.

• Element Positioning affected by Browser Screen Resolution Change

  Hello, newbie developer here. There's this small problem I always encounter. Every time I try to change browser resolution (or what do you call the event when you scroll the mouse wheel while pressing ctrl), some elements (Mostly form elements) get to be shifted down or somewhere else, which does not conform with the original positioning. Im not sure if the problem is with the CSS or the markup itself and Im not really sure if this is much of a problem. Should I ignore it? (It doesn't feel very comfortable though, thinking that it might become problematic in the near future) Otherwise, any solution on how to avoid this? Simple explanations are very much appreciated, Thanks. (Perhaps the used term newbie should be replaced with noob?. Haha.)

• What is the typical method to separate connected letters in a word using OCR

  I am very new to OCR and almost know nothing about the algorithms used to recognize words. I am just getting familiar to that. Could anybody please advise on the typical method used to recognize and separate individual characters in connected form (I mean in a word where all letters are linked together)? Forget about handwriting, supposing the letters are connected together using a known font, what is the best method to determine each individual character in a word? When characters are written separately there is no problem, but when they are joined together, we should know where every single character starts and ends in order to go to the next step and match them individually with a letter. Is there any known algorithm for that?

• "Compiling" content with short tags to var, without eval()

  To start off, let me clear the air by saying we are aware of the dis/advantages to using short tag syntax in PHP. That is not what this question is about. Is there a way to "include" a file containing short tag code, into a variable, and have PHP actually parse the code? include/require obviously do not provide the data in a workable form, and output buffering does not parse the short tag code because it happens at runtime. Using eval() is simply not an option. Suggestions?

• Injecting a response value into a textarea to subsequently post

  I have multiple notes with class=.note and unique id each inside a div. On click of edit I grab the id, show hidden form #noteditor and hide all notes. I am using the load function to get the response (using codeigniter so url does work) and input result in the editorfrorm Textarea id = upnote... Firebug response looks ok and I have tried to inject into a div and this works fine, BUT getting this injto the text area is causing me some headaches. There is also the chance that i am going around this a convoluted way due to my limited knowledge...   I have a facebook application that is published at facebook platform and i used facebook API to invite friends and i have succeeded in creating invitation form but the problem is that when u invite friend and send invitation and the invitation request sent to the user and the user accept it this friend appears again in the friend list that can be invited again For example : i have friend in my friend list named X and when i send invitation to him the invitation is sent and and X accept the invitation and when i try to send invitation again the friend X appears again in the list that i can select from to send invitation this means that may i send an invitation to this user (X) and he is already playing the game i need to know how to fix this problem so friends appear in the friend list (for invitation )only friends that not use the application. My application at the following link My Game application visit it and see the problem exactly after inviting friends they will appear again is this normal in any game application? thanks in advance for any reply

  Hi, I`m starting with PyQt4 and right now I have a problem with events. I have one main class let say MainWindow. MainWindow has a list of buttons of type ButtonX (inherence form QPushButton). I would like to achieve one of 2 solutions (depends which is easier). 1) After click one of the button from the list I would like to run a one method of MainWindow. I would like to be able to read a source of event there (recognize clicked button) 2) Second solution is to run a method defined in ButtonX class.   I have a Windows2k3/IIS6 server but at home i'm using Windows7/IIS7 pc. I just installed VS2010 and trying out the new Web form. After i setup a application in IIS7, I set the Application Pool to ASP.net v4.0 Classic thinking this is the correct setting to simulate IIS6 but when I browse to the website. I got HTTP Error 404.2 Not found but if i set the application pool settings to ASP.net v4.0 then everything run fine. Does anyone know how to simulate IIS6 with ASP.net 4 on Windows7/IIS7/ASP.net 4?

• Why is generated XAML spitting out namespaces that are not asked for?

  I have a very simple XAML form, that has one namespace definition. For some reason, when Visual Studio processes that XAML file in to it's component .g.cs, it's sticking a bunch of namespace definitions at the top that I have not asked for in the XAML, or the code behind, and they are namespaces that no longer exist in my project. Thus the project is failing to compile. Why is Visual Studio sticking arbitrary namespace 'using' statements in my generated XAML .g.cs files? It's caused my entire project to break. Not one time did this .xaml file ever reference the namespaces in question, so it's doubly annoying.

• Using twitter gem to signup and authenticate users

  Hi, I'd like to allow users the option to register using their Twitter account. Basically, I'll present them with a standard signup form (name, login, email, pwd, pwd_confirm) as well as a "Signup with Twitter" link. If a user chooses to signup with Twitter creds, then I'll create a user record in db. Then I'd like to be able to allow a user to authenticate using their Twitter creds on returning visits. Also, I'm using restful_authentication, so I need to have this work within that context. What is the best way to do this? I haven't been to find any tutorials on allowing the signup and authentication pieces. Most examples just show how to authenticate a Twitter user into your app. Thanks.

• jQuery show submit button on input field click

  Hi, I'm trying to have a comment input field that will show the submit button on a dynamically created form when you click on the input field. Similar to how facebook comments work. When you click on the input field the submit button appears and when you click off it disappears. All the comment input id's are comment_1 etc and the submit button id's are submit_1 etc. I've tried this, jQuery("#[id^='comment_']").live('click',function(event){ if(jQuery("#[id^='comment_']").val() == ""){ jQuery("#[id^='submit_']").hide(); } else { jQuery("#[id^='submit_']").show(); } }); And that won't work for some reason. • svn working copy spanning 2 physical drives?

  I have a large repository hosted on dreamhost that I backup daily on a remote machine using a windows scheduled task which updates the working copy located on an external USB 300GB drive connected to the remote machine. The 300GB drive is nearly full with only 26GB of free space remaining. Recently I added a second USB external 1TB drive to increase storage capacity. I would like to ask: what is the best way to use the new 1TB drive? Is it possible to span the working copy across both drives (ex: somehow create a 1.3 TB drive)? If I copied the working copy from the 300GB to the 1TB would svn continue form do I need to retarget the update working copy script to the new 1TB drive and start downloading everything again (least desired option) thanks

• Managing important runtime business logic with regard to a codebase

  I'm working on a project which will end up have a lot of application information stored in the form of records in a database. In this case, it's the configuration of data views: which grid columns to show/hide default filters to apply to each grid view column titles sorting subtotaling ... This information is a big part of the value of the application and is essential to it's function. The data will be altered by admins a fair amount, so it's not static and it wouldn't be appropriate to have to deploy a new version of the app every time the data changes. The question is, Where should this data be stored? It will definitely live in the database because that's how it's accessed, but I feel like it needs to also be kept with the version controlled codebase because it's an integral part of functioning of the application. Has anyone dealt with an issue like this before? What did you end up doing?

  I have a ASP.NET MVC page, which call WCF logic. The system is single-signon using NTML. Both the ASP page and the WCF will use the UserIdentity to get user login information. Other then NTML, I will also have a Form based authorization (with AD) in same system. The ASP page, is it simple and I can have it from HttpContext.Current.Request.LogonUserIdentity. However, it seem it is missing from the WCF which call by the ASP, not from browser. How to configure to pass the ID pass from the ASP to the WCF?

• Return tiff file from outputstream on JSP

  I am using a JSP to display a single TIFF file. The flow is as follows: I am given a PDF to convert to a TIFF. I feed a 'black box' API the PDF in the form of a File object and an OutputStream (I am currently using a ByteArrayOutputStream but that can change as needed. The 'black box' converts the PDF to a TIFF and saves the result to the OutputStream. I use out.println(outputstream) to spit out the TIFF. The problem is that I am getting a text stream instead of a displayed image. I have used the following head/meta tag: <head><title>PDF to TIFF tester</title> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Script-Type" CONTENT="image/tiff"></head> <body> But that does not change the end result. Any help?

  Hello I was looking at creating a UI for developing web forms, similar to the Netbeans Visual JSF form designer.It will be targeted to use GWT/GXT components.I am looking at a look very similar to VS/Netbeans. Any thoughts on where/how to start ? Initially, I would prefer to have it as a standalone application, later develop it as eclipse plugin. I have already evaluated the extjs designer and the eclipse plugin from instantiations, but i would prefer to have it developed on my own, as it looks challenging, Also, I have few custom components that have been developed. • PHP script to process NSURLRequest from iphone

  Hi, i will be sending a POST request to login.php on my server from an iphone app over HTTPS. The POST is created using NSMutableURLRequest. Is there an example of a PHP script to process this POST on my server. The POST isn't sent as a form as such , anyway not that i think it is. Not sure how NSMutableURLRequest formats this. I just need to know how to access the POST data on the server with the php script. All the examples ive seen regarding php scripts processing POSTS seem to be do with forms. So how do i process this? • Avoiding string copying in Lua

  Say I have a C program which wants to call a very simple Lua function with two strings (let's say two comma separated lists, returning true if the lists intersect at all, false if not). The obvious way to do this is to push them onto the stack with lua_pushstring, which works fine, however, from the doc it looks like lua_pushstring but makes a copy of the string for Lua to work with. That means that to cross over to the Lua function is going to require two string copies which I could avoid by rewriting the Lua function in C. Is there any way to arrange things so that the existing C strings could be reused on the Lua side for the sake of performance (or would the strcpy cost pale into insignificance anyway)? From my investigation so far (my first couple of hours looking seriously at Lua), lite userdata seems like the sort of thing I want, but in the form of a string.
