  • Bytecode and Objects

    - by HH
    Hey everyone, I am working on a bytecode instrumentation project. Currently when handling objects, the verifier throws an error most of the time. So I would like to get things clear concerning rules with objects (I read the JVMS but couldn't find the answer I was looking for): I am instrumenting the NEW instruction: original bytecode NEW <MyClass> DUP INVOKESPECIAL <MyClass.<init>> after instrumentation NEW <MyClass> DUP INVOKESTATIC <Profiler.handleNEW> DUP INVOKESPECIAL <MyClass.<init>> Note that I added a call to Profiler.handleNEW() which takes as argument an object reference (the newly created object). The piece of code above throws a VerificationError. While if I don't add the INVOKESTATIC (leaving only the DUP), it doesn't. So what is the rule that I'm violating? I can duplicate an uninitialized reference but I can't pass it as parameter? I would appreciate any help. Thank you

  • Why is JavaMail Transport.send() a static method?

    - by skiphoppy
    I'm revising code I did not write that uses JavaMail, and having a little trouble understanding why the JavaMail API is designed the way it is. I have the feeling that if I understood, I could be doing a better job. We call: transport = session.getTransport("smtp"); transport.connect(hostName, port, user, password); So why is Eclipse warning me that this: transport.send(message, message.getAllRecipients()); is a call to a static method? Why am I getting a Transport object and providing settings that are specific to it if I can't use that object to send the message? How does the Transport class even know what server and other settings to use to send the message? It's working fine, which is hard to believe. What if I had instantiated Transport objects for two different servers; how would it know which one to use? In the course of writing this question, I've discovered that I should really be calling: transport.sendMessage(message, message.getAllRecipients()); So what is the purpose of the static Transport.send() method? Is this just poor design, or is there a reason it is this way?

  • How to display objects with dynamic fields in wpf data grid?

    - by Oliver Hanappi
    Hi! I want to display and edit some objects in a WPF data grid and I'm looking for a good way to do so. All objects I want to display have the same fields, but every execution the fields of my objects can differ. Here is a piece of the interface to illustrate what I mean: public interface IMyObject { IEnumerable<string> GetFieldNames(); IEnumerable<Type> GetFieldTypes(); object GetField(string name); void SetField(string name, object value); } How can I generate a data grid which displays this kind of objects? I thought of XAML generation to define the columns, but I'm still facing the problem of accessing the fields. I think I could realize this with value converters, another option would be to dynamically create a type which exposes the dynamic fields with properties. Are there any other ways and which should I favor? I'm keen on hearing your opinions. Best Regards, Oliver Hanappi

  • Java client server sending bytes receiver listens indefinitely

    - by Rob
    Hello, I'm trying to write a Java program for Windows that involves communication with a server program located on a foreign machine.My program successfully connects to the server, successfully writes a byte array to it, and waits for a response. I know that the server is printing bytes (the response) back to me one byte at a time. I've tried using a DataInputStream object with various methods (read, readByte etc.), I've tried using a BufferedReader object with its methods (read, readLine etc.) but all the reader objects and various methods that I've used all come up against the same problem. The bytes are being successfully read (each time a byte or bytes are read, I can print them to the console, and they are what I'd expect them to be). The problem is that my reader doesn't know when to stop reading. Even if the server has sent all its bytes, the reader function on my end waits for more data, indefinitely, and so the program hangs at the read function. This problem seems to affect all the techniques that I have tried. I've been running tests with a simple client program and server program, each about 40 or 50 lines long, where the client connects to the server, and sends some bytes to it. All the techniques I've tried for the server reader result in the same problem mentioned above (the server hangs waiting for more input from the client, even though it has sent all its data). I'm really desperate for some help on this. It's important that I get this program finished soon, and it's basically complete except for this communication issue. Any help is much appreciated! -Rob

  • Very strange Application.ThreadException behaviour.

    - by Brann
    I'm using the Application.ThreadException event to handle and log unexpected exceptions in my winforms application. Now, somewhere in my application, I've got the following code (or rather something equivalent, but this dummy code is enough to reproduce my issue) : try { throw new NullReferenceException("test"); } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("test2", ex); } I'm clearly expecting my Application_ThreadException handler to be passed the "test2" exception, but this is not always the case. Typically, if another thread marshals my code to the UI, my handler receives the "test" exception, exactly as if I hadn't caught "test" at all. Here is a short sample reproducing this behavior. I have omitted the designer's code. static class Program { [STAThread] static void Main() { Application.ThreadException += new System.Threading.ThreadExceptionEventHandler(Application_ThreadException); Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); Application.Run(new Form1()); } static void Application_ThreadException(object sender, System.Threading.ThreadExceptionEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine(e.Exception.Message); } } public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); button1.Click+=new EventHandler(button1_Click); System.Threading.Thread t = new System.Threading.Thread(new System.Threading.ThreadStart(ThrowEx)); t.Start(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { throw new NullReferenceException("test"); } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("test2", ex); } } void ThrowEx() { this.BeginInvoke(new EventHandler(button1_Click)); } } The output of this program on my computer is : test ... here I click button1 test2 I've reproduced this on .net 2.0,3.5 and 4.0. Does someone have a logical explanation ?

  • MVC View Model Intellesense / Compile error

    - by Marty Trenouth
    I have one Library with my ORM and am working with a MVC Application. I have a problem where the pages won't compile because the Views can't see the Model's properties (which are inherited from lower level base classes). They system throws a compile error saying that 'object' does not contain a definition for 'ID' and no extension method 'ID' accepting a first argument of type 'object' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) implying that the View is not seeing the model. In the Controller I have full access to the Model and have check the Inherits from portion of the view to validate the correct type is being passed. Controller: return View(new TeraViral_Blog()); View: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<com.models.TeraViral_Blog>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Index2 </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Index2</h2> <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <p> ID: <%= Html.Encode(Model.ID) %> </p> </fieldset> </asp:Content>

  • C++ - passing references to boost::shared_ptr

    - by abigagli
    If I have a function that needs to work with a shared_ptr, wouldn't it be more efficient to pass it a reference to it (so to avoid copying the shared_ptr object)? What are the possible bad side effects? I envision two possible cases: 1) inside the function a copy is made of the argument, like in ClassA::take_copy_of_sp(boost::shared_ptr<foo> &sp) { ... m_sp_member=sp; //This will copy the object, incrementing refcount ... } 2) inside the function the argument is only used, like in Class::only_work_with_sp(boost::shared_ptr<foo> &sp) //Again, no copy here { ... sp->do_something(); ... } I can't see in both cases a good reason to pass the boost::shared_ptr by value instead of by reference. Passing by value would only "temporarily" increment the reference count due to the copying, and then decrement it when exiting the function scope. Am I overlooking something? Andrea. EDIT: Just to clarify, after reading several answers : I perfectly agree on the premature-optimization concerns, and I alwasy try to first-profile-then-work-on-the-hotspots. My question was more from a purely technical code-point-of-view, if you know what I mean.

  • Field Members vs Method Variables?

    - by Braveyard
    Recently I've been thinking about performance difference between class field members and method variables. What exactly I mean is in the example below : Lets say we have a DataContext object for Linq2SQL class DataLayer { ProductDataContext context = new ProductDataContext(); public IQueryable<Product> GetData() { return context.Where(t=>t.ProductId == 2); } } In the example above, context will be stored in heap and the GetData method variables will be removed from Stack after Method is executed. So lets examine the following example to make a distinction : class DataLayer { public IQueryable<Product> GetData() { ProductDataContext context = new ProductDataContext(); return context.Where(t=>t.ProductId == 2); } } (*1) So okay first thing we know is if we define ProductDataContext instance as a field, we can reach it everywhere in the class which means we don't have to create same object instance all the time. But lets say we are talking about Asp.NET and once the users press submit button the post data is sent to the server and the events are executed and the posted data stored in a database via the method above so it is probable that the same user can send different data after one another.If I know correctly after the page is executed, the finalizers come into play and clear things from memory (from heap) and that means we lose our instance variables from memory as well and after another post, DataContext should be created once again for the new page cycle. So it seems the only benefit of declaring it publicly to the whole class is the just number one text above. Or is there something other? Thanks in advance... (If I told something incorrect please fix me.. )

  • Antlr MismatchedSetException During Interpretation

    - by user1646481
    I am new to Antlr and I have defined a basic grammar using Antlr 3. The grammar compiles and ANTLRWorks generates the Parser and Lexer code without any problems. The grammar can be seen below: grammar i; @header { package i; } module : 'Module1'| 'Module2'; object : 'I'; objectType : 'Name'; filters : EMPTY | 'WHERE' module; table : module object objectType; STRING : ('a'..'z'|'A'..'Z')+; EMPTY : ' '; The problem is that when I interpret the table Parser I get a MismatchedSetException. This is due to having the EMPTY. As soon as I remove EMPTY from the grammar, the interpretation works. I have looked on the Antlr website and some other examples and the Empty space is ' '. I am not sure what to do. I need this EMPTY. As soon as I change the EMPTY to be the following: EMPTY : ''; instead of: EMPTY : ' '; It actually interprets it. However, I am getting the following Exception: Interpreting... [10:57:23] problem matching token at 1:4 NoViableAltException(' '@[1:1: Tokens : ( T__4 | T__5 | T__6 | T__7 | T__8 | T__9 | T__10 | T__11 | T__12 | T__13 | T__14 | T__15 | T__16 );]) [10:57:23] problem matching token at 1:9 NoViableAltException(' '@[1:1: Tokens : ( T__4 | T__5 | T__6 | T__7 | T__8 | T__9 | T__10 | T__11 | T__12 | T__13 | T__14 | T__15 | T__16 );]) When I take out the EMPTY, there are no problems at all. I hope you can help.

  • c++ Design pattern for CoW, inherited classes, and variable shared data?

    - by krunk
    I've designed a copy-on-write base class. The class holds the default set of data needed by all children in a shared data model/CoW model. The derived classes also have data that only pertains to them, but should be CoW between other instances of that derived class. I'm looking for a clean way to implement this. If I had a base class FooInterface with shared data FooDataPrivate and a derived object FooDerived. I could create a FooDerivedDataPrivate. The underlying data structure would not effect the exposed getters/setters API, so it's not about how a user interfaces with the objects. I'm just wondering if this is a typical MO for such cases or if there's a better/cleaner way? What peeks my interest, is I see the potential of inheritance between the the private data classes. E.g. FooDerivedDataPrivate : public FooDataPrivate, but I'm not seeing a way to take advantage of that polymorphism in my derived classes. class FooDataPrivate { public: Ref ref; // atomic reference counting object int a; int b; int c; }; class FooInterface { public: // constructors and such // .... // methods are implemented to be copy on write. void setA(int val); void setB(int val); void setC(int val); // copy constructors, destructors, etc. all CoW friendly private: FooDataPrivate *data; }; class FooDerived : public FooInterface { public: FooDerived() : FooInterface() {} private: // need more shared data for FooDerived // this is the ???, how is this best done cleanly? };

  • How to determine if the camera button is half pressed

    - by Matthew
    I am creating a small test camera application, and I would like to be able to implement a feature that allows focus text bars to be present on the screen while the hardware camera button is pressed half way down. I created a camera_ButtonHalfPress event to perform the focus action, but I am unsure of how to toggle the text bars I would like to show on the screen accordingly. Essentially, my goal would be to show the text bars while the camera button is pressed half way down, and then remove them if the button is pressed all the way or the button is released before being pressed all the way down. The button being released is the part I am having trouble with. What I have is as follows: MainPage.xaml.cs private void camera_ButtonHalfPress(object sender, EventArgs e) { //camera.Focus(); // Show the focus brackets. focusBrackets.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } } private void camera_ButtonFullPress(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Hide the focus brackets. focusBrackets.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; camera.CaptureImage(); } } Currently, if the the user decides to release the camera button before it is pressed all the way, the focus brackets persist on the screen. How might I fix this issue?

  • Disposing ActiveX resources owned by another thread

    - by Stefan Teitge
    I've got a problem problem with threading and disposing resources. I've got a C# Windows Forms application which runs expensive operation in a thread. This thread instantiates an ActiveX control (AxControl). This control must be disposed as it uses a high amount of memory. So I implemented a Dispose() method and even a destructor. After the thread ends the destructor is called. This is sadly called by the UI thread. So invoking activexControl.Dispose(); fails with the message "COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW", as the object belongs to another thread. How to do this correctly or is it just a bad design I use? (I stripped the code down to the minimum including removing any safety concerns.) class Program { [STAThread] static void Main() { // do stuff here, e.g. open a form new Thread(new ThreadStart(RunStuff); // do more stuff } private void RunStuff() { DoStuff stuff = new DoStuff(); stuff.PerformStuff(); } } class DoStuff : IDisposable { private AxControl activexControl; DoStuff() { activexControl = new AxControl(); activexControl.CreateControl(); // force instance } ~DoStuff() { Dispose(); } public void Dispose() { activexControl.Dispose(); } public void PerformStuff() { // invent perpetuum mobile here, takes time } }

  • problem with converting simple code to silverlight app.

    - by Sara
    Hi. I have this code for window form application and I have been attempting to convert it to a Silverlight application but it does not work!. There is a Textbox and I attached KeyDown event handler to it. when the user press the arrow key ( left or right) while the focus on the textbox, it will write . or -. When it is window form i used e.KeyCode and Keys.Right and its works great but when it is silverlight I used e.Key and key.Right and the program doesn't work good because the arrows do the 2 functions moving and write ./-. How I can work this out in Silverlight? (My English not good) The code ( window form): private void textBox1_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (sender is TextBox) { TextBox textBox = (TextBox)sender; if (e.KeyCode == Keys.Left || e.KeyCode == Keys.Right) { e.Handled = true; char insert; if (e.KeyCode == Keys.Left) { insert = '.'; } else { insert = '-'; } int i = textBox.SelectionStart; textBox.Text = textBox.Text.Insert(i, insert.ToString()); textBox.Select(i + 1, 0); } } } (and Silverlight): private void textBox1_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (sender is TextBox) { TextBox textBox = (TextBox)sender; if (e.Key == Key.Left || e.Key == Key.Right) { e.Handled = true; char insert; if (e.Key == Key.Left) { insert = '.'; } else { insert = '-'; } int i = textBox.SelectionStart; textBox.Text = textBox.Text.Insert(i, insert.ToString()); textBox.Select(i + 1, 0); } } } I don't understand, is there huge different effect between using Keycode/Keys and Key/Key or because something else?

  • How can I make NSUndoManager's undo/redo action names work properly?

    - by Gabe
    I'm learning Cocoa, and I've gotten undo to work without much trouble. But the setActionName: method is puzzling me. Here's a simple example: a toy app whose windows contain a single text label and two buttons. Press the On button and the label reads 'On'. Press the Off button and the label changes to read 'Off'. Here are the two relevant methods (the only code I wrote for the app): -(IBAction) turnOnLabel:(id)sender { [[self undoManager] registerUndoWithTarget:self selector:@selector(turnOffLabel:) object:self]; [[self undoManager] setActionName:@"Turn On Label"]; [theLabel setStringValue:@"On"]; } -(IBAction) turnOffLabel:(id)sender { [[self undoManager] registerUndoWithTarget:self selector:@selector(turnOnLabel:) object:self]; [[self undoManager] setActionName:@"Turn Off Label"]; [theLabel setStringValue:@"Off"]; } Here's what I expect: I click the On button The label changes to say 'On' In the Edit menu is the item 'Undo Turn On Label' I click that menu item The label changes to say 'Off' In the Edit menu is the item 'Redo Turn On Label' In fact, all these things work as I expect apart from the last one. The item in the Edit menu reads 'Redo Turn Off Label', not 'Redo Turn On Label'. (When I click that menu item, the label does turn to On, as I'd expect, but this makes the menu item's name even more of a mystery. What am i misunderstanding, and how can I get these menu items to display the way I want them to?

  • Including partial views when applying the Mode-View-ViewModel design pattern

    - by Filip Ekberg
    Consider that I have an application that just handles Messages and Users I want my Window to have a common Menu and an area where the current View is displayed. I can only work with either Messages or Users so I cannot work simultaniously with both Views. Therefore I have the following Controls MessageView.xaml UserView.xaml Just to make it a bit easier, both the Message Model and the User Model looks like this: Name Description Now, I have the following three ViewModels: MainWindowViewModel UsersViewModel MessagesViewModel The UsersViewModel and the MessagesViewModel both just fetch an ObserverableCollection<T> of its regarding Model which is bound in the corresponding View like this: <DataGrid ItemSource="{Binding ModelCollection}" /> The MainWindowViewModel hooks up two different Commands that have implemented ICommand that looks something like the following: public class ShowMessagesCommand : ICommand { private ViewModelBase ViewModel { get; set; } public ShowMessagesCommand (ViewModelBase viewModel) { ViewModel = viewModel; } public void Execute(object parameter) { var viewModel = new ProductsViewModel(); ViewModel.PartialViewModel = new MessageView { DataContext = viewModel }; } public bool CanExecute(object parameter) { return true; } public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged; } And there is another one a like it that will show Users. Now this introduced ViewModelBase which only holds the following: public UIElement PartialViewModel { get { return (UIElement)GetValue(PartialViewModelProperty); } set { SetValue(PartialViewModelProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty PartialViewModelProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("PartialViewModel", typeof(UIElement), typeof(ViewModelBase), new UIPropertyMetadata(null)); This dependency property is used in the MainWindow.xaml to display the User Control dynamicly like this: <UserControl Content="{Binding PartialViewModel}" /> There are also two buttons on this Window that fires the Commands: ShowMessagesCommand ShowUsersCommand And when these are fired, the UserControl changes because PartialViewModel is a dependency property. I want to know if this is bad practice? Should I not inject the User Control like this? Is there another "better" alternative that corresponds better with the design pattern? Or is this a nice way of including partial views?

  • Selenium: Can i test if a page loaded a flash app (ie a swf) properly?

In case it helps, the html to load the swf is: <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="800" height="600"> <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="http://localhost:3000/assets/players/millionaire/millionaire.swf"> <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE="high"> <PARAM NAME=FlashVars VALUE="quizXML=http://localhost:3000/quizzes/371.xml?online=true&myURL=http://localhost:3000/assets/players/millionaire/&online=true"> <param name=width value="800"> <param name=height value="600"> <EMBED src="http://localhost:3000/assets/players/millionaire/millionaire.swf" FlashVars="quizXML=http://localhost:3000/quizzes/371.xml?online=true&myURL=http://localhost:3000/assets/players/millionaire/&online=true" width="800" height="600" quality=high TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"> </EMBED> </OBJECT> thanks - max

  • What does "Value does not fall within expected range" mean in runtime error?

    - by manuel
    Hi, I'm writing a plugin (dll file) using /clr and trying to implement speech recognition using .NET. But when I run it, I got a runtime error saying "Value does not fall within expected range", what does the message mean? public ref class Dialog : public System::Windows::Forms::Form { public: SpeechRecognitionEngine^ sre; private: System::Void btnSpeak_Click(System::Object^ sender, System::EventArgs^ e) { Initialize(); } protected: void Initialize() { //create the recognition engine sre = gcnew SpeechRecognitionEngine(); //set our recognition engine to use the default audio device sre->SetInputToDefaultAudioDevice(); //create a new GrammarBuilder to specify which commands we want to use GrammarBuilder^ grammarBuilder = gcnew GrammarBuilder(); //append all the choices we want for commands. //we want to be able to move, stop, quit the game, and check for the cake. grammarBuilder->Append(gcnew Choices("play", "stop")); //create the Grammar from th GrammarBuilder Grammar^ customGrammar = gcnew Grammar(grammarBuilder); //unload any grammars from the recognition engine sre->UnloadAllGrammars(); //load our new Grammar sre->LoadGrammar(customGrammar); //add an event handler so we get events whenever the engine recognizes spoken commands sre->SpeechRecognized += gcnew EventHandler<SpeechRecognizedEventArgs^> (this, &Dialog::sre_SpeechRecognized); //set the recognition engine to keep running after recognizing a command. //if we had used RecognizeMode.Single, the engine would quite listening after //the first recognized command. sre->RecognizeAsync(RecognizeMode::Multiple); //this->init(); } void sre_SpeechRecognized(Object^ sender, SpeechRecognizedEventArgs^ e) { //simple check to see what the result of the recognition was if (e->Result->Text == "play") { MessageBox(plugin.hwndParent, L"play", 0, 0); } if (e->Result->Text == "stop") { MessageBox(plugin.hwndParent, L"stop", 0, 0); } } };

  • C# Minimize all running windows when application runs

    - by Derek
    I am working on a C# windows form application. How can i edit my code in a way that when more than 2 faces is being detected by my webcam. More information: When "FaceDetectedLabel.Text = "Faces Detected : " + cam.facesdetected.ToString();" becomes Face Detected: 2 or more... How can i do the following: Minimize all program running except my application. Log out of my computer Here is my code: namespace PBD { public partial class MainPage : Form { //declaring global variables private Capture capture; //takes images from camera as image frames public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ProcessFrame(object sender, EventArgs arg) { Wrapper cam = new Wrapper(); //show the image in the EmguCV ImageBox WebcamPictureBox.Image = cam.start_cam(capture).Resize(390, 243, Emgu.CV.CvEnum.INTER.CV_INTER_CUBIC).ToBitmap(); FaceDetectedLabel.Text = "Faces Detected : " + cam.facesdetected.ToString(); } private void MainPage_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { #region if capture is not created, create it now if (capture == null) { try { capture = new Capture(); } catch (NullReferenceException excpt) { MessageBox.Show(excpt.Message); } } #endregion Application.Idle += ProcessFrame; }

  • Unable to register achievements

    - by abe
    I've been unable to register any achievements. I keep getting the following: {"error":{"message":"(#3502) Object at achievement URL is not of type game.achievement","type":"OAuthException","code":3502}} When I run my URL through the linter, I get: Open Graph Warnings That Should Be Fixed Inferred Property: The 'og:url' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags. Inferred Property: The 'og:title' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags. Although when I load the URL myself I clearly see those set in the meta tags. My HTML looks like: <html> <head prefix="og: http://ogp.me/ns# fb: http://ogp.me/ns/fb# game: http://ogp.me/ns/game#"> <meta property="fb:app_id" content="<MY_APP_ID>" /> <meta property="og:type" content="game.achievement" /> <meta property="og:url" content="http://<MY_DOMAIN>/ach10.html" /> <meta property="og:title" content="Title" /> <meta property="og:description" content="Description" /> <meta property="og:image" content="http://placekitten.com/g/200/300" /> </head> <body> Hmm.. </body> </html> Also interesting, is the graph API sees it as: { "url": "http://<MY_DOMAIN>/ach10.html", "type": "website", "title": "http://<MY_DOMAIN>/ach10.html", "updated_time": "2012-03-09T19:49:14+0000", "id": "<ID>" } And the scraped URL returns nothing ... anyone have any ideas? I've also tried adding the Game Achievement object in the Open Graph settings and every combination of Sandbox Mode/Social Discovery enabled and disabled.

  • SystemStackError in Rails::ActiveSupport::Callbacks

    - by coreyward
    I'm building a Rails app that connects to Dropbox and syncs with a folder to update a personal site. I'm using Rails 3.0.3, Ruby 1.9.2, and the Dropbox gem. Right now I have a DropboxAccounts Controller, and two models: DropboxSession, which wraps calls to the gem with application-specific functionality, and DropboxAccount, which stores the session and settings in the database. After the user authorizes their account with Dropbox they're redirected back over and the DropboxAccount is saved with the authorized session. That all works just fine. My problem is that when I try to call Dropbox::API#create_folder(any path) I end up with a SystemStackError in lib/activesupport/callbacks.rb:421 which refers to the code below. If I remove the call to create the folder, it works. If I call create folder from another request, it works. I doubled the stack size to 16K to no avail. # This is called the first time a callback is called with a particular # key. It creates a new callback method for the key, calculating # which callbacks can be omitted because of per_key conditions. # def __create_keyed_callback(name, kind, object, &blk) #:nodoc: @_keyed_callbacks ||= {} @_keyed_callbacks[name] ||= begin str = send("_#{kind}_callbacks").compile(name, object) class_eval <<-RUBY_EVAL, __FILE__, __LINE__ + 1 def #{name}() #{str} end # THIS IS LINE 421 protected :#{name} RUBY_EVAL true end end I'm not very familiar with Rails yet, and I'm not sure what the intention of the code above is or why it would cause a stack overflow. I'm not using any method_missing/ghost method magic in my code. I suspected it was something with a callback serialize :files but commenting it out did nothing. My DropboxAccount model contains only a call to belongs_to :user, and DropboxSession is just a handful of methods, none of which contain callbacks. Bypassing them and using the Dropbox::Session methods directly doesn't help. I hope someone on StackOverflow can help me with this stack overflow. ;)

  • Making it look like the computer is thinking in TicTacToe game

    - by rage
    here is a slice of code that i've written in VB.net Private Sub L00_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles L00.Click, L01.Click, L02.Click, L03.Click, L10.Click, L11.Click, L12.Click, L13.Click, L20.Click, L21.Click, L22.Click, L23.Click, L30.Click, L31.Click, L32.Click, L33.Click Dim ticTac As Label = CType(sender, Label) Dim strRow As String Dim strCol As String 'Once a move is made, do not allow user to change whether player/computer goes first, because it doesn't make sense to do so since the game has already started. ComputerFirstStripMenuItem.Enabled = False PlayerFirstToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = False 'Check to make sure clicked tile is a valid tile i.e and empty tile. If (ticTac.Text = String.Empty) Then ticTac.Text = "X" ticTac.ForeColor = ColorDialog1.Color ticTac.Tag = 1 'After the player has made his move it becomes the computers turn. computerTurn(sender, e) Else MessageBox.Show("Please pick an empty tile to make next move", "Invalid Move") End If End Sub Private Sub computerTurn(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Call Randomize() row = Int(4 * Rnd()) col = Int(4 * Rnd()) 'Check to make sure clicked tile is a valid tile i.e and empty tile. If Not ticTacArray(row, col).Tag = 1 And Not ticTacArray(row, col).Tag = 4 Then ticTacArray(row, col).Text = "O" ticTacArray(row, col).ForeColor = ColorDialog2.Color ticTacArray(row, col).Tag = 4 checkIfGameOver(sender, e) Else 'Some good ole pseudo-recursion(doesn't require a base case(s)). computerTurn(sender, e) End If End Sub Everything works smoothly, except i'm trying to make it seem like the computer has to "think" before making its move. So what i've tried to do is place a System.Threading.Sleep() call in different places in the code above. The problem is that instead of making the computer look like its thinking, the program waits and then puts the X and O together at the same time. Can someone help me make it so that the program puts an X wherever i click AND THEN wait before it places an O? Edit: in case any of you are wondering, i realize that the computers AI is ridiculously dumb, but its just to mess around right now. Later on i will implement a serious AI..hopefully.
