A few I could think of are: empty string, empty delimiters, repeated delimiters, consecutive delimiters, string with only delimiters. However, the interviewer expected some more(better ones). • mysql replace matching but not changing

  I've used mysql's update replace function before, but even though I think I'm following the same syntax, I can't get this to work-it matches the rows, but doesn't replace.   I have just been watching the Stanford iPhone lecture online from Jan 2010 and I noticed that the guy from Apple keeps referring to getting an objects class name using "className" e.g. NSArray *myArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"ONE", @"TWO", nil]; NSLog(@"I am an %@ and have %d items", [myArray className], [myArray count]); However, I can't get this to work, the closest I can come up with it to use class, is className wrong, did it get removed, just curious?   I'd like to make program-wide data in a C++ program. The easiest way to do it in C# is just public static members. C#: public static class DataContainer { public static Object data1 ; public static Object data2 ; } In C++ you can do the same thing C++ global data way#1: class DataContainer { public: static Object data1 ; static Object data2 ; } ; Object DataContainer::data1 ; Object DataContainer::data2 ; However there's also extern C++ global data way #2: class DataContainer { public: Object data1 ; Object data2 ; } ; extern DataContainer * dataContainer ; // instantiate in .cpp file Which is better, or possibly another way which I haven't thought about?

• Any way to set or overwrite the __line__ and __file__ metadata?

  I'm writing some code that needs to change function signatures. Right now, I'm using Simionato's FunctionMaker class, which uses the (hacky) inspect module, and does a compile. Unfortunately, this still loses the line and file metadata. Does anyone know: If it is possible to overwrite these values in some odd way? If hacking up a class with a complex getattribute() to intercept the values and also try to make the class looks like a function is any more possible than a moose with a flying nun hat? Is there an alternative to the (hacky) inspect module? PEP 362 is dead dead dead? I know decorators and cPickle users fight with this. What other situations is the read only metadata in people's way? I appreciate any insights. Thank you.

• Global Import Aliasing in .NET

  Using import aliasing in a single class, we can reference class library namespaces by assigning our own custom alias like this: Imports Db = Company.Lib.Data.Objects And then we are able to reference the classes inside of Company.Lib.Data.Objects by using the Db alias that we assigned. Is it possible to do this at the global level so that the alias is applied to the entire solution instead of the given file? Currently, we are working with web applications, so I was hoping we could add something to web.config, but I am also interested in whether or not this is possible with windows forms, console apps, and/or class libraries.

  I have the following scenario: public class FirstChildService : IChildService { } public class SecondChildService : IChildService { } public class MyService : IService { public MyService(IEnumerable<IChildService> childServices){ ... } } I'm currently registering all the child services and explicitly depending on them in the constructor of MyService, but what I'd like to do is have them all injected as part of a collection. I can think of a few ways to do this: Using a facility Using a component property Registering the collection as a service But all of them feel a bit... icky. What's the best way to manage this? Also, ideally I'd like to do this using the fluent API and constructor injection.   Want to verify that my understanding of how this works. Have an unmanaged C++ Class with one public instance variable: char* character_encoding; and whose only constructor is defined as: TF_StringList(const char* encoding = "cp_1252"); when I use this class in either managed or unmanaged C++, the first thing I do is declare a pointer to an object of this class: const TF_StringList * categories; Then later I instantiate it: categories = new TF_StringList(); this gives me a pointer to an object of type TF_StringList whose variable character_encoding is set to "cp_1252"; So, is all that logic valid? • Shared WCF client code between .NET and Silverlight apps?

  I'm developing a .NET application that will have both a WinForms and a Silverlight client. Although the majority of code will be in the server, I'll need to have quite a bit of logic in the clients as well, and I would like to keep the client library code the same. From what I could figure out so far, I need to have two different project types, a class library and a Silverlight class library, and link the files from one project to the other. This seems kind of lame, but it works for simple code. My problem, though, is that the code generated by the SVCUtil.exe to access WCF services is different from the code generated by the slsvcutil.exe, and the silverlight code is actually incompatible with the .NET one: I get a bunch of problems with the System.ServiceModel.Channel classes when I try to import the class into .NET. Has anybody done anything similar to this before? What am I doing wrong?

• Visual Studio - how to create two projects using the same sources

  My solution consists of 2 executable projects and a couple dlls. Project1 is a Smart Device Project, Project2 is a Windows Forms Project. Both projects use the same libraries, the reason of that is I want to test my libraries on PC before I deploy it on the device. The problem is that the DLL project type can be Smart Device Class Library or Class Library, not both. I cannot add a reference from SD project to WF and vice versa. I was able to add reference from SD project to a dll file (generated from Class Library project) instead of the project itself, but for some reason I got the message "cannot load XXX type from YYY assembly". It doesn't depend on my code, because when I created separate project for the same sources, everything was fine. The only solution I've found is to create 2 types of projects for each library, but I don't know how to make 2 projects based on the same sources.

• Getting error in integrating Contacts APIs in Android 1.6 and 2.0

  Hi All, I have seen the BusinessCard example provide in Android examples. I am using ContactAccessor abstract class to seperate out the SDK versions. My code is running fine for 2.0 onwards, but when I am trying to build the code in Adnroid 1.6 I am getting the following errors: Build.VERSION_CODES.ECLAIR is not resolved. Getting errors in the whole class in which I have used Contacts APIs from 2.0 (say in class ContactAccessorSdk5.java). How to resolve these issues? I want to run my App on both the versions. • Opening IProject properties when another (adaptable to IProject) object is selected

  I have a custom view displaying a hierarchy model of the current project. The root element is of class MyProject which is my own class, but it represents one Eclipse IProject, and it's adaptable to IProject. I have a "properties" menu option in the popup menu for that view, and I'd like to open up IProject's properties when a MyProject object is selected. PropertyDialogAction only looks for property pages registered for MyProject and doesn't give me a chance to offer an adapter -- or, at least, I don't know how to offer one. What's the proper solution for this? In the meantime, I've overridden PropertyDialogAction to handle my class in the special way I require, but that seems like quite a kludge to get this done.

Let's say i do have this setup: public class Point { public float X; public float Y; } public class Control { protected Point m_Position = new Point(); public Position { get { return m_Position; } set { m_Position = value; } // reorganize internal structure.. reorganize(); } protected reorganize() { // do some stuff } } This is all fine, but when it comes to usage, i could write something like: Control myControl = new Control(); myControl.Position.X = 1.0f; The thing is, my Control class wont recognize that the Position has been changed because set hasn't been called. When a user logs in, there is a new User instantiated. How do I get an instance of the layout class to know about the instantiated user? I could also save the entire instance of the User in a session variable. I assume that's a bad idea though. What are the best practices for this?

  We are storing people's class attendance information to Drupal. We would like to show this in a grid/chart, where the first column of each row shows person's name, and rest of the columns (ca. 20) either a checkbox or "X" if the user attended a class, or otherwise an non-checked box or empty column: (dates here) Jack X XXX X X Jill XX XXX XX It should also be possible to edit the attendance information on the grid. Each attendance information is a node of its own. This functionality can probably mostly be achieved using views and editablefields, but there is one problem: if a person has not attended a specific class he/she will not have at all an attendace node for that day. What would be the easiest way to create an attendace node in those cases, so that it would be possible for the end user to edit the grid by just clicking on the checkbox or typing an 'X'?
