• Jaxer and HTTP proxy requests...

  Thanks to everyone in advance. I'm using Jaxer.sandbox and making requests just fine. I'd like these requests to go through my http proxy (like squid for example). • accessing files after setup.py install

  I'm developing a python application and have a question regarding coding it so that it still works after an user has installed it on his or her machine via setup.py install or similar. In one of my files, I use the following: file = "TestParser/View/MainWindow.ui" cwd = os.getcwd() argv_path = os.path.dirname(sys.argv[0]) file_path = os.path.join(cwd, argv_path, file) in order to get the path to MainWindow.ui, when I only know the path relative to the main script's location. This works regardless of from where I call the main script. The issue is that after an user installs the application on his or her machine, the relative path is different, so this doesn't work. I could use __file__, but according to this, py2exe doesn't have __file__. Is there a standard way of achieving this? Or a better way?

• What are the rules for Javascript's automatic semicolon insertion?

  Well, first I should probably ask if this is browser dependent. I've read that if an invalid token is found, but the section of code is valid until that invalid token, a semicolon is inserted before the token if it is preceded by a line break. However, the common example cited for bugs caused by semicolon insertion is: return _a+b; which doesn't seem to follow this rule, since _a would be a valid token. On the other hand, breaking up call chains works as expected: $('#myButton') .click(function(){alert("Hello!")}); Does anyone have a more in-depth description of the rules?

• Why are alloc and init called separately in Objective-C?

  Note: I'm relatively new to Objective-C and am coming from Java and PHP. Could someone explain to me why I always have to first allocate and then initialize an instance? Couldn't this be done in the init methods like this: + (MyClass*)init { MyClass *instance = [MyClass alloc]; [instance setFoo:@"bla"]; return instance; } + (MyClass*)initWithString:(NSString*)text { MyClass *instance = [MyClass init]; [instance setFoo:text]; return instance; } ... Is this just a relict from the old C days or is there something that I'm not seeing? I know this isn't a problem as I could as well always call alloc and init, but since it's a bit tedious I'd like to at least know why I'm doing it. I'm liking the expressiveness of the language so far, but this is something that I want to fully understand in order to think the Objective-C way. Thank you!

  Hi all, In php we can assign a method name to a variable and then use that variable to call the method. For example: $image_create_func = 'ImageCreateFromGIF'; $newImage = $image_create_func($oldImage); But can we do this in Flex? In flex, I have the string public var key:String = "email" And I also have a value object searchTerm:SearchTermVO which has a public property "email" (searchTerm.email). Now I want to do searchTerm.email by doing something like in php: searchTerm.key but it's not possible. Can anybody help me with this plz? Thank you.

  I want to add STI to an existing table using a custom type column. Let's call this taste_type whose corresponding model is Fruit. In the Fruit model I have: set_inheritance_column :taste_type In my migration to add STI I have: class AddSTI < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up add_column :fruits, :taste_type, :string, :limit => 100, :null => false Fruit.reset_column_information Fruit.find_by_id(1).update_attributes({:taste_type => 'Sour'}) end def self.down remove_column :fruits, :taste_type end end When I run the migration, I get the following error: Mysql::Error: Column 'taste_type' cannot be null: ... Any idea what's going? I can get the migration to run if I comment the set_inheritance_column in the Fruit model, then uncomment it after I run the migration. Obviously, I don't want to do this, however.

• VB.NET function that takes other functions as a parameter, and executes them

  Hello, Is there a way in vb.net to create a sub/function that will take as an argument some kind of pointer to another function, and allow this new sub/function to execute the passed function? What I have are 10-12 xml-rpc functions I am calling against a remote server. Each of these functions has different argument lists (one takes 1 string, another might take 3 strings and one int, etc). All of them return an object. As I am calling these, it seems like it should be able to be factored better. For instance, everytime I call any of these functions, I want to test the return value for a session drop, and do something to try and reconnect to the remote system, etc. Using .net 3.5 Thanks! -R

Since the call to channel.__next__ needs to be returned when the callback <IRCClient instance>.privmsg is called, there doesn't seem to be a clean option. Using exceptions or threads seems like the wrong thing here, is there a simpler (blocking?) way of using twisted that would make this possible?

  Hi I am in the process of creating an app that is similar to the build-in SMS app. What I need: - a service that is always running in the background - every 5 min. the service checks the current location of the device and calls a web service - if certain criteria are meet, the service should generate a notification (just like the SMS app) - when the notification is clicked, the user is taken to the app (just like the SMS app) - when the app is installed the service should be started - when the device is rebooted, the service should be started What I have tried: - running a regular service which worked just fine until android kills the service - using the AlarmManager the make the 5 min. interval call to a service. But I was not able to make this work. Any help would be greatly appreciated... -Thomas

• Passing big multi-dimensional array to function in C

  Hi, I'm having trouble passing a big array to a function in C. I declare: int image[height][width][3]={}; where height and width can be as big as 1500. And when I call: foo((void *)image,height,width); which is declared as follows: int *foo(const int *inputImage, int h, int w); I get segmentation fault error. What's strange is that if my values are: height=1200; width=290; theres no problem, but when they're: height=1200; width=291; i get the mentioned error. At 4 bytes per integer with both height and width of 1500 (absolute worst case) the array size would be of 27MB which imo isn't that big and shouldn't really matter because I'm only passing a pointer to the first element of the array. Any advice?

Everything works great in IE & Firefox but when it is tried in chrome it is as if the OnClientClick is not kicking off the javascript. I receive no errors and it works in IE and FF now.   I have ascii strings which contain the character "\x80" to represent the euro symbol: >>> print "\x80" € When inserting string data containing this character into my database, I get: psycopg2.DataError: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encodi ng expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". I'm a unicode newbie. How can I convert my strings containing "\x80" to valid UTF-8 containing that same euro symbol? • XDocument holding onto Memory?

  I have an appplication that does a XDocument.Load from a 20mb file and then gets passed to a form to view its contents: openFileDialog1.FileName = ""; if (openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { AuditFile = XDocument.Load(openFileDialog1.FileName); fmAuditLogViewer AuditViewer = new fmAuditLogViewer(); AuditViewer.ReportDocument = AuditFile; AuditViewer.Init(); AuditViewer.ShowDialog(); AuditViewer.Dispose(); AuditFile.RemoveNodes(); AuditFile = null; } In Task Manager I can see the memory being used by my application shoot up when I open this file. When I have finished viewing this file in my application I call : myXDocument.RemoveNodes(); myXDocument = null; However the memory use in Task Manager is still pretty high against my app. Is the XDocument still being held in memory and can I decrease the memory usage by my app?

  Quick curious question, memory allocation addresses are choosed by the language compiler or is it the OS which chooses the addresses for the memory asked? This is from a doubt about virtual memory, where it could be quickly explained as "let the process think he owns all the memory", but what happens on 64 bits architectures where only 48 bits are used for memory addresses if the process wants a higher address? Lets say you do a int a = malloc(sizeof(int)); and you have no memory left from the previous system call so you need to ask the OS for more memory, is the compiler the one who determines the memory address to allocate this variable, or does it just ask the OS for memory and it allocates it on the address returned by it?

  Hi, I am trying to update a replica list on a Exchange 2003 public folder. I am using the WMI namespace exchange_publicfolder to try and add an Exchange server (using the servers DN) to the AddReplica procedure. Every time I run this I get an invalid parameter as an exception. Below is the code that I am using to do this.   I have a function in PostgreSQL / plpgsql with the following signature: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION user_login(TEXT, TEXT) RETURNS SETOF _get_session AS $$ ... $$ Where _get_session is a view. The function works fine when calling it from phpPgAdmin, however whan I call it from PHP I get the following error: Warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: type "session_ids" does not exist CONTEXT: compile of PL/pgSQL function "user_login" near line 2 in /home/sites/blah.com/index.php on line 69 The DECLARE section of the function contains the following variables: oldSessionId session_ids := $1; newSessionId session_ids := $2; The domain session_ids DOES exist, and other functions which use the same domain work when called from the same script. The PHP is as follows: $query = "SELECT * FROM $dbschema.user_login('$session_old'::TEXT, '$session'::TEXT)"; $result = pg_query($login, $query); I have also tried this using ::session_ids in place of ::TEXT when calling the function, however I recieve the same error. Help :o(

• Problems with testing in app purchases

  I am trying to test my application with in app purchases. I created features, test user, logged out from iTunes on the iPhone and used developer certificate. Load app from XCode in debug mode. When I click "Buy" button I pass all checks for internet availability, canMakePayments and call SKPayment *payment = [SKPayment paymentWithProductIdentifier:featureId]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addPayment:payment]; But all what I see is a pending view and after some minutes it failed in - (void) failedTransaction: (SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction { if (transaction.error.code != SKErrorPaymentCancelled) { NSLog(@"failedTransaction"); } [[MKStoreManager sharedManager] paymentCanceled]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] finishTransaction: transaction]; } Please advice in what direction I should go to figure out the problem and what else I should check.   I'm trying to use GreaseMonkey to replace the background image of a DIV on bing.com. It's a pretty straightforward call to GM_addstyle: GM_addStyle(".sw_logo " +"{background:url('http://www.kpao.org/blog/kpao-bing-logo-inverse.png') " +"no-repeat 21px 7px transparent}"); However, the image doesn't show up. It's clearly visible in Firebug, and as I twiddle with the CSS in Firebug, I can get it to show up. But it doesn't stay. Any thoughts on why?   Using Microsoft Spy++, I can see that the following windows that belong to a process: Process XYZ window handles, displayed in tree form just like Spy++ gives me: A B C D E F G H I J K I can get the process, and the MainWindowHandle property points to the handle for window F. If I enumerate the child windows using I can get a list of window handles for G through K, but I can't figure out how to find the window handles for A through D. How can I enumerate windows that are not children of the handle specified by MainWindowHandle of the Process object? • this.select() and javascript events on forms

  I have a form box that I want to be always selected. I was able to get it to select everything in the box when it is clicked (using onFocus="this.select()") but I want it to be selected 100% of the time. The text in the box will be always changing, so I tried using onChange="this.select()" but that didn't work. Here's what I have: <form> <input type="text" id="txt1" size="30" maxlength="1" onkeyup="showHint(this.value)" onFocus="this.select()" onBlur="this.select()" onChange="this.select()" value="Click here, then press a key"/> </form> Basically I just tried to call everything in hopes that something would work, but it is still acting as if only onFocus="this.select()" is there. By the way, this is for controlling something via keyboard, which is why the maxlength is only 1. I want it to be always selected so that when new key are pressed, the last command will be changed without having to use backspace.
