  • Conceptual data modeling: Is RDF the right tool? Other solutions?

    I'm planning a system that combines various data sources and lets users do simple queries on these. A part of the system needs to act as an abstraction layer that knows all connected data sources: the user shouldn't [need to] know about the underlying data "providers". A data provider could be anything: a relational DBMS, a bug tracking system, ..., a weather station. They are hooked up to the query system through a common API that defines how to "offer" data. The type of queries a certain data provider understands is given by its "offer" (e.g. I know these entities, I can give you aggregates of type X for relationship Y, ...). My concern right now is the unification of the data: the various data providers need to agree on a common vocabulary (e.g. the name of the entity "customer" could vary across different systems). Thus, defining a high level representation of the entities and their relationships is required. So far I have the following requirements: I need to be able to define objects and their properties/attributes. Further, arbitrary relations between these objects need to be represented: a verb that defines the nature of the relation (e.g. "knows"), the multiplicity (e.g. 1:n) and the direction/navigability of the relation. It occurs to me that RDF is a viable option, but is it "the right tool" for this job? What other solutions/frameworks do exist for semantic data modeling that have a machine readable representation and why are they better suited for this task? I'm grateful for every opinion and pointer to helpful resources.

  • MySql: Is it reasonable to use 'view' or I would better denormalize my DB?

    There is 'team_sector' table with following fields: Id, team_id, sect_id, size, level It contains few records for each 'team' entity (referenced with 'team_id' field). Each record represent sector of team's stadium (totally 8 sectors). Now it is necessary to implement few searches: by overall stadium size (SUM(size)); the best quality (SUM(level)/COUNT(*)). I could create query something like this: SELECT TS.team_id, SUM(TS.size) as OverallSize, SUM(TS.Level)/COUNT(TS.Id) AS QualityLevel FROM team_sector GROUP BY team_id ORDER BY OverallSize DESC / ORDER BY QualityLevel DESC But my concern here is that calculation for each team will be done each time on query performed. It is not too big overhead (at least now), but I would like to avoid performance issues later. I see 2 options here. The 1st one is to create 2 additional fields in 'team' table (for example) and store there OverallSize and QualityLevel fields. If information if 'sector' table is changed - update those table too (probably would be good to do that with triggers, as sector table doesn't change too often). The 2nd option is to create a view that will provide required data. The 2nd option seems much easier for me, but I don't have a lot of experience/knowledge of work with views. Q1: What is the best option from your perspective here and why? Probably you could suggest other options? Q2: Can I create view in such way that it will do calculations rarely (at least once per day)? If yes - how? Q3: Is it reasonable to use triggers for such purpose (1st option). P.S. MySql 5.1 is used, overall number of teams is around 1-2 thousand, overall number of records in sector table - overall 6-8 thousand. I understand, those numbers are pretty small, but I would like to implement the best practice here.

  • Getting client denied when accessing a wsgi graphite script

    I'm trying to set up graphite on my Mac OS X 10.7 lion, i've set up apache to call the python graphite script via WSGI, but when i try to access it, i get a forbiden from apache and in the error log. "client denied by server configuration: /opt/graphite/webapp/graphite.wsgi" I've checked that the scripts location is allowed in httpd.conf, and the permissions of the file, but they seem correct. What do i have to do to get access.   • Upgraded AGPM Server cannot connect to relocated archive

    We were using the Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) v3.0 on out Windows Server 2008 DC. It kept the archive on the C: drive. When we upgraded to AGPM v4 we relocated the archive to the D: drive. Now when we try to look at a GPO's hisory in GPMC we get the following error Failed to connect to the AGPM Server. The following error occurred: The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs. System.ServiceModel.FaultException (80131501) You are able to click Retry or Cancel. Retry brings up the same error and Cancel takes you back to GPMC and the History tab displays "Archive not found". I installed the client on a Windows 7 computer (which is a n unsupported set up) and it could read the server archive without any issues. I followed the TechNet article "Move the AGPM Server and the Archive" but that didn't make a difference How can I tell the server where the archive is?

  • Windows 2008 Terminal Services "Easy Print" and Matrix Printers

    Server: Windows 2008 Server Standard SP2 with "Terminal Services" role Clients: Windows XP SP3 + .NET 3.5 Framework SP1 + Remote Desktop Client 7.0 We are using "Easy Print" feature which allows programs running on server to "see" printers installed on client machines. Everything works fine, EXCEPT when we send a text-only output to a dot-matrix printer. In this case, the printer only outputs a blank page. At first, we had problems with the error "Windows Presentation Foundation Terminal Server Print W has encountered a problem and needs to close." but this was fixed by replacing TsWpfWrp.exe with the one from Vista SP1 as suggested here. But now, we only get a blank page! Every other (graphical) document we sent to printer works 100%. We also tried to use the "Generic text-only" driver, but the result is same. Now we are trying to change parameters like print processor on "advanced" tab from printer driver to see if something happen. But this is just guessing and we really don't know what to try anymore. The problem appears to be on Easy Print driver, but we found almost no resources about it. Any tips are welcome.

    What I have? I have normal web application and it has 3 site collections with name, "PDirectory". Other than this I have only Central administration web application in the farm. What I want? I want to delete that web application, "PDirectory". What problem am I facing? I am not able to delete the web application. I get below error when I try to delete it but, the site collections got deleted!     The installation notes (git://gitorious.org/python-markdown/mainline.git) say in the file using_as_module.txt One of the parameters that you can pass is a list of Extensions. Extensions must be available as python modules either within the markdown.extensions package or on your PYTHONPATH with names starting with mdx_, followed by the name of the extension. Thus, extensions=['footnotes'] will first look for the module markdown.extensions.footnotes, then a module named mdx_footnotes. See the documentation specific to the extension you are using for help in specifying configuration settings for that extension. I put the folder "extensions" to ~/bin/python/ such that my PYTHONPATH is the following export PYTHONPATH=/Users/masi/bin/python/:/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/ The instructions say that I need to import the addons such that import markdown import <module-name> However, I cannot see any module in my Python. This suggests me that the extensions are not available as "python modules - - on [my] PYTHONPATH with names starting with mdx_ - -." How can you get Markdown's extensions to work? 2nd attempt I run at ~/bin/markdown git clone git://gitorious.org/python-markdown/mainline.git python-markdown cd python-markdown python setup.py install I put the folder /Users/masi/bin/markdown/python-markdown/build to my PATH because the installation message suggests me that is the new location of the extensions. I have the following in a test markdown -document [TOC] -- headings here with # -format --- However, I do not get the table of contents. This suggests me that we need to somehow activate the extensions when we compile by the markdown.py -script. **The problem returns to my first quoted text which I is rather confusing to me.

  • WebSeal and jsp content updated by Ajax

    Hey, I have a problem running an application on environment with WebSeal. It is a web application with Java server that contains many parts that are replcaed within the page according to user input. For instance - a form called Outer.jsp may contain a form:options combo-box (by spring-forms), that uppon selection of an option, a certain Div is updated with a content produced by a jsp and fetched by an Ajax call (the ajax impementation in the client is done by Prototype JavaScript framework 1.5.1.2). Let's call the content fetched by ajax - Inner.jsp So Outer.jsp is fetching Inner.jsp, which in turn uses js functions in files included by the Outer.jsp. This, I think, is where my problem starts - Inner.jsp is not familiar with any of the functions included in Outer.jsp. And so, almost any operation performed by Inner.jsp is failing miserably. Needless to say - this works perfect when running on environment without WebSeal. Note that the scripting is enabled in WebSeal junction (with the -J option). I also see that the content returned by the Ajax call includes a document.cookie added by WebSeal (not sure it matters to this problem) Can anyone assist? Thanks! Lior

  • Asterisk/FreePBX: Allow other Google Talk clients to ring when using motif module

    I've recently installed FreePBX to act as a link between a SIP soft phone and my Google Talk account. It was easy to set up and outbound calls work just fine, but I've run into two problems with inbound calls that I'm not sure how to resolve. I'm using an inbound route to forward all calls from Google to my soft phone. If the soft phone is not currently registered, Asterisk answers and immediately generates a fast-busy signal (reporting CHANUNAVAIL in the logs), and the call is lost. If the soft phone is registered, Asterisk "answers" the call before rining the soft phone, which means that other Google Talk clients never ring (since from their perspective someone has answered the call). For solving (1) seems like I could use the ChanIsAvail() function (or this answer) to prevent Asterisk from answering in the event that the phone isn't registered. However, I'm not sure what to do about (2), because the behavior I want is for Asterisk to not "answer" the call until I answer the call on the soft phone. How do I configure Asterisk (ideally within the FreePBX framework) such that I can continue to receive calls at other Google Talk clients in addition to forwarding them to a SIP phone?

  • Swap space maxing out - JVM dying

    I have a server running 3 WordPress instances, MySql, Apache and the play framework 2.0 on 64m initial & max heap. If I increase the max heap of the JVM that play is running in even by 16m I see the 128m of swap space steadily fill up until the the JVM dies. I notice that it is only when I am plugging away at the wordpress sites that the JVM will die. I assume this is because the JVM is not asking for memory at the time so gets collected. I notice that when I restart Apache I reclaim about half of my swap and RAM. So is there some way I can configure apache to consume less memory? Also what could be causing the swap space to get so heavily thrashed with just 16m added to the max heap size of the JVM?     I've spent several days trying to deploy Satchmo, in the process asking several questions about deployment (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11277407/can-anyone-explain-this-error-message-deploying-a-satchmo-project-under-gunicorn, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11277685/is-there-a-howto-to-fcgi-for-deploying-satchmo, and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11278295/what-is-the-most-stable-release-of-satchmo). Django's tagline is "The web framework for perfectionists with deadlines," and Satchmo's tagline is equally forceful: "The webshop for perfectionists with deadlines." I'm looking more to set up, configure, design, etc., rather than code for this one, and I'm taking a bit of a hint that for me at least the "with deadlines" bit is something that I cannot manage. Deployment has been a time sink.     I have an app that's accessible via 1.2.3.4/myapp. The app is installed in /var/www/myapp. I've set up a subdomain(apps.mydomain.com) that points to 1.2.3.4. I want the server to point to var/www/myapp if I type apps.mydomain.com/myapp, how do I do that? I have experience creating virtual hosts(lots of them) locally but I'm lost because it's now in production and it's a little different.     Today I lost the ability to see my Windows Server 2008 R2 shares from any of my 3 Windows XP machines in my small office. The 5 Win7 machines haven't been affected (they are still able to browse/access the 2008 server), but none of my WinXP machines can access the 2008R2 server anymore. Yesterday (and for the previous year) everything was working fine. I do not have a domain setup. I can still access Win7 shares from WinXP clients.   • Windows 7 on an EEE PC 901 - Is it a practical change?

    I am currently running WinXP on my EEE PC 901, and I'm happy to say that it runs really well. But this did not come with out significant manipulation of the OS. Here's the basic steps I took: Install XP Modify registry to install Install bare essential drivers Relocate page file to d:\ (remember, this model has two SSD's, one roughly 3.6gb, and the other roughly 16gb - XP won't run on the bigger drive, only the smaller one) Install remaining drivers skip normal updates, install service pack 2 straight away. modify system registry to place service pack backup folder into new Program Files directory on D drive (where software is being installed). Change My Documents folder to sit on D drive. Install .net framework Install remaining updates and service pack 3 (the hidden backup folders in the c:\Windows directory are deleted after every update as well as the contents of the service pack downloads folder in order to continually free up space). I have also found that Disktrix UltimateDefrag to be brilliant at keeping the system clean and tidy. This is roughly the order I did things in. In this configuration the machine works really well. QUESTION: Can this kind of configuration be implemented with Windows 7 to achieve the same result on this machine? Thanks in advance. Dave.

    Help! I don't know what happened; this server has been very reliable but suddenly began having problems with a particular .NET 2.0 web site simply hanging - it wouldn't load at all. However, another ASP.NET site was still fine. Reinstalling the site didn't fix it, nor did deleting and re-creating the application within IIS. Trying the event viewer was met with a horrifying "Microsoft Management Console has stopped working". Some Googling led me to believe the .NET framework was the problem. I found a tool called the .NET cleanup tool - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx - which cleaned out .NET entirely. I reinstalled .NET 1.1 and 3.5 (which installed 2.0 and 3.0 as well). Using the .NET verification tool - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8999004.aspx - I believe these have all installed ok. However, my server is in worse shape now. The Exchange 2010 Management Console crashes with an MMC error and now my other (previously reliable) .NET web app now hangs on loading too. I thought I should use Computer Management to remove and re-add the application and web server roles but sure enough, MMC crashes. If anyone can help I will be extremely grateful. Thank you !

    I am trying to setup my development nginx/PHP server with a basic master/catch-all vhost config so that I can created unlimited ___.framework.loc domains as needed. server { listen 80; index index.html index.htm index.php; # Test 1 server_name ~^(.+)\.frameworks\.loc$; set $file_path $1; root /var/www/frameworks/$file_path/public; include /etc/nginx/php.conf; } However, nginx responds with a 404 error for this setup.   • Mac WLAN 802.11b+g WPA1 connection issues

    Hi, I have a Telewell TW-EA510v4 ADSL modem+WLAN router configured as follows: Mode: 802.11b+g Security Mode: WPA1 Pre-shared Key WPA Algorithms: TKIP Connections from only certain MAC addresses have been allowed and the MAC address of my Mac is in that list. The WLAN works just fine with iPhone and an old Acer laptop. It has worked for about two months or so with my MacBook Pro (year and a half or so old model). Ocassionally i've had minor problems with it, which have required either reboot of ADSL modem or reboot of my Mac. However now, for the last week or so I haven't been able to connect to it at all. This is what is what i get in the console when i try to connect: 5.5.2010 20.54.53 airportd[73731] Apple80211Associate() failed -3924 (Invalid PMK) 5.5.2010 20.54.53 Apple80211 framework[584] airportd MIG failed (Associate Event) = -3924 (Invalid PMK) (port = 104599) 5.5.2010 20.54.53 SystemUIServer[584] Error joining WLAN-M: Invalid password (-3924 Invalid master key) The pre-shared key I use is not incorrect. I'm 100% sure of that. The Error Log from the router only says this when I try to connect to it: May 05 21:09:54 home.gateway:i802_1x:none: <my mac address> associated May 05 21:10:00 home.gateway:i802_1x:none: <my mac address> disassociated May 05 21:10:01 home.gateway:i802_1x:none: <my mac address> disassociated Any ideas or tips to troubleshoot this further?

It sounded like a Multiviews problem to me so I disabled Multiviews and it is still going on. ***And then a different rule will eventually take the index.php out, I am having another problem with an extra '/' being left behind when this happens.   • Why is this APC installation failing so badly?

    I have multiple instances of APC running on my server with similar configurations (albeit with different cache sizes. However, one of the instances is performing extremely poorly, and I have no idea why (100% cache fragmentation, high miss rate). I've tried restarting Apache multiple times, so this isn't a freak instance. The instance with problems is simply running Wordpress with a few plugins installed. All other instances (~4) on the server are running perfectly fine with almost 100% hit rates and 0% fragmentation; for example this instance is holding a website built using the Symfony framework. Any help would be much appreciated; I haven't had much experience with APC and was hoping for it to be an out-of-the-box speed boost ;).
