  Issues reading CSV file using OLEDB when filenamen have period. I have a code in C# that reads CSV File using OleDBProvider. It works perfect with filenames in regular format such as Budget.csv but failed when i renamed the file into Budget.DKK.csv or Budget.USD.csv I throws this exception: he Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Budget.DKK.csv'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. I have no idea so far why is this happenning.

• Changing Pushpin Text Color

  I'm attempting to display data through the text of a Pushpin object. However, the text color defaults to white which is nigh-invisible when the backdrop is a road-style MapView. Looking through the API, paying especially close attention to PushpinOptions, I couldn't find anything that manipulated text color. Considering that this seems to a fairly basic feature, I'm a little confused as to why it doesn't exist or at least is really hard to find. Am I missing something or does Bing Maps for Android really not let you change the default text color for a Pushpin object?

• Is there a reason why a base class decorated with XmlInclude would still throw a type unknown exception when serialized?

  I will simplify the code to save space but what is presented does illustrate the core problem. I have a class which has a property that is a base type. There exist 3 dervived classes which could be assigned to that property. If I assign any of the derived classes to the container then the XmlSerializer throws dreaded "The type xxx was not expected. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically." exception when attempting to seralize the container. However my base class is already decorated with that attribute so I figure there must be an additional "hidden" requirement. The really odd part is that the default WCF serializer has no issues with this class hierarchy.   Hello, I have a problem with a html select object and its options in IE. My html <select id="Select1" onchange="closeMenu1(this.value)"> <option></option> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> And the javascript function closeMenu1 (x) { var show = document.getElementById("divID"); show.innerHTML = x; } Now, in every browser except the IEs the divID will show up the value which I selected in the select object. • How do I render a partial to a string from within a filter attached to a controller

  I have some code I need to use in multiple controllers in a rails 1.0 application (I can't, for strange reasons upgrade to a newer rails). I've extracted the relevant code into a filer object, and I'm using the around_filter construct to execute it. Before the extract, I was using the method render_to_string() to get the contents of a rendered partial into a string. However, this method is protected, so I am unable to access it from within my Filter object. As a workaround, I tried adding this to my ApplicationController: def render_to_string(*a) super(*a) end this seems to have remedied the protection level issue, but now I get the error: Can only render or redirect once per action When no such error occurred before the extraction. Why? Is there a different approach I should take here?

• Java - is this an idiom or pattern, behavior classes with no state

  I am trying to incorporate more functional programming idioms into my java development. One pattern that I like the most and avoids side effects is building classes that have behavior but they don't necessarily have any state. The behavior is locked into the methods but they only act on the parameters passed in. The code below is code I am trying to avoid: public class BadObject { private Map<String, String> data = new HashMap<String, String>(); public BadObject() { data.put("data", "data"); } /** * Act on the data class. But this is bad because we can't * rely on the integrity of the object's state. */ public void execute() { data.get("data").toString(); } } The code below is nothing special but I am acting on the parameters and state is contained within that class. We still may run into issues with this class but that is an issue with the method and the state of the data, we can address issues in the routine as opposed to not trusting the entire object. Is this some form of idiom?   You may ask why do I need it? I have to detect all white objects at the B/W image. I'm coloring each object and taking its rect. In order fill each object with different color I would be very happy to use a function that can for a given color gimme a next one or so. In Qt there is a nice one that is called nextColor or so, returns the integer representing the next color(which can be easily translated to RGB). Does Cocoa have sth like that?

  Currently working on a multi-tenant application that employs Shared DB/Shared Schema approach. IOW, we enforce tenant data segregation by defining a TenantID column on all tables. By convention, all SQL reads/writes must include a Where TenantID = '?' clause. Not an ideal solution, but hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, since virtually every page/workflow in our app must display tenant specific data, I made the (poor) decision at the project's outset to employ a Singleton to encapsulate the current user credentials (i.e. TenantID and UserID). My thinking at the time was that I didn't want to add a TenantID parameter to each and every method signature in my Data layer. By extension, this also means that I have a reference to System.Web in my Data layer (shudder). I want to pay down some technical debt this sprint by getting rid of this singleton for the reasons mentioned above. I have a few thoughts on what an better implementation might be, but if anyone has any guidance or lessons learned they could share, I would be much obliged.

• Best approch to dynamically filter .net objects

  The project i´m working currently on has a way to define a filter to filter objects from a database. This filter is a pretty straitforward class containing filtercriteria that will be combined to a sql where-clause. The goal now is to use this filter class to filter .net objects as well. So the filter for example defines, that the title property of the object that it is applied to must contain some userdefined string etc. What are ways to approch this problem? What should the filter return instead of the sql where-clause and how can it be applied to the object? I´m thinking about this for hours and don´t yet have even a slight idea how to solve this. Been thinking about reflection, dynamic code execution, building expressions but still haven´t found an acutal starting point.

However, in 2.8.0 RC1, I get an error message: <console>:6: error: value y is not a member of object X X.y = 1 ^ Interestingly, just trying to call the method without parentheses fails as well: scala> X.y_= 1 <console>:1: error: ';' expected but integer literal found. X.y_= 1 ^ Am I misremembering something which does actually exist or did I just invent it out of whole cloth?

• Handling changes in column order when importing CSV files

  I have a CSV file. The first row will always contain column headers. Depending on a variety of factors, the order of columns may change and, in rare circumstances, some columns may not be present. These changes are beyond my control. My thoughts, so far, on how to address this. I'll read the first row of the file and use the values to generate a list of columns contained in the source file. The destination file will use the same column names as the source. This should be as simple as searching for identical names in the source and destination, then just mapping the column index values, right? What are your recommendations for handling this?

  I've written a traits class that lets me extract information about the arguments and type of a function or function object in C++0x (tested with gcc 4.5.0). The general case handles function objects: template <typename F> struct function_traits { template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal { }; template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal<R (F::*)(A...)> { // ... }; typedef typename _internal<decltype(&F::operator())>::<<nested types go here>>; }; Then I have a specialization for plain functions at global scope: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<R (*)(A...)> { // ... }; This works fine, I can pass a function into the template or a function object and it works properly: template <typename F> void foo(F f) { typename function_traits<F>::whatever ...; } int f(int x) { ... } foo(f); What if, instead of passing a function or function object into foo, I want to pass a lambda expression? foo([](int x) { ... }); The problem here is that neither specialization of function_traits<> applies. The C++0x draft says that the type of the expression is a "unique, unnamed, non-union class type". Demangling the result of calling typeid(...).name() on the expression gives me what appears to be gcc's internal naming convention for the lambda, main::{lambda(int)#1}, not something that syntactically represents a C++ typename. In short, is there anything I can put into the template here: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<????> { ... } that will allow this traits class to accept a lambda expression?

Have an unmanaged C++ Class with one public instance variable: char* character_encoding; and whose only constructor is defined as: TF_StringList(const char* encoding = "cp_1252"); when I use this class in either managed or unmanaged C++, the first thing I do is declare a pointer to an object of this class: const TF_StringList * categories; Then later I instantiate it: categories = new TF_StringList(); this gives me a pointer to an object of type TF_StringList whose variable character_encoding is set to "cp_1252"; So, is all that logic valid?   I know that I can dynamically add an instance method to an object by doing something like: import types def my_method(self): # logic of method # ... # instance is some instance of some class instance.my_method = types.MethodType(my_method, instance) Later on I can call instance.my_method() and self will be bound correctly and everything works. Now, my question: how to do the exact same thing to obtain the behavior that decorating the new method with @property would give? I would guess something like: instance.my_method = types.MethodType(my_method, instance) instance.my_method = property(instance.my_method) But, doing that instance.my_method returns a property object.

• Displaying "broken" sprites?

  I'm quite new to the world of 2D-Engines. I figured out how to load images and display those as sprites and stuff, but theres one question that bugs me. For instance, when a "rocket" hits an object it will deal damage to it and leave a crater behind. I'd like to have the crater shown on that object. That would require "skipping" some of the pixels of that image when rendering, doesn't it? My question is, how would you do such a thing? What data strcture would you use to save this? How to display a "broken" sprite?

  I compiled a PHP extension on Fedora Core 12, but when I send it to someone using CentOS they get the error: "ELF file OS ABI invalid" I'm not sure what causes this running file provides the following info: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), not stripped An extension that loads fine provides the following from file: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped So it seems I need to generate a SYSV type file for some distributions, instead of a GNU/LINUX file, no idea how though. Any pointers? Also should I be statically linking?

• Matlab: How to find the right-most point of a white line within the imrect?

  i've got a question regarding the imrect() function, which is part of the image processing toolbox in MatLab. I'd like to find a starting point within an image. I use the imrect function for setting a region to limit and specify the lookup area, but I can't get the point where the ROI mask is getting back mapped to the original size of the image. As you can see on the image there is a specified rectangle (cyan-colored), which I want to inspect for the white line, especially the nearest point to the right edge of the rectangle. I experimentated with only looking up on the last column of the rectangle, but as I mentioned before, the re-mapping onto the global image coordinates failed. So in this example, the white point I'd like to get would be around (98,302) The original (x,y) coordinates are relevant, so a cropping of the image to the rectangle is not acceptable.   I have an MVC 4 app that I am working on and using the code first implementation except I cheated a bit and created my database first then generated my entity classes (poco) from my database using the EF power tools (reverse engineer). I guess you can say I did database first method but I have no edmx file just the context class and my entity classes (poco) I have a few projects in the works using MVC and EF with pocos but just the one project I used the tool to generate my pocos from the database. My question is about the mapping files that get created when I generate my pocos using the tool. What is the purpose of these Map files? I figured the map files are needed when generating the db from the model like with the true code first method, in my case where I am using a tool to generate my model from the database do the map files have any influence on how my app uses the entity classes?

However, the second statement is missing a where clause and returns all columns, even though I did specify which rows I wanted to view and which columns were of interest. Why is the second T-SQL statement generated the way it is, and what should I do to ensure that I filter out the data according to specifications via the T-SQL? Also note that I would prefer to keep lookupCodeInfo() and especially am interested in keeping it enabled to accept lambda functions for specifying which rows/columns to return.
