• Private downloads [on hold]

  I am setting up a personal website and I would like to be able to share certain files with friends (e.g. photo albums or documents). Of course, each of the files should only be accessible to certain people, for example with a password or a private address. I would like to have a simple system, easy to maintain. I'm quite sure that Wordpress would let me know do something but keeping a Wordpress installation just for sharing a few files per month seems too much work. I am thinking of using the Apache capabilities for folder or file password protecting. Is this the best idea? Or would it be better just to block the directory navigation so that only people with the full path for each of the files can download them? Thanks!

  I am looking to make a program that accomplishes some simple goals. I need to be able to specify an area of my screen to have reproduced in a window. Similar to who the windows magnifier works. I also need it to stay on top. I also need it to be transparent. I also need it to be ghost like(mouse clicks go through it) so the application below can be interacted with still.   I have started to work on a project with quite complex business logic and architecture. While I try to understand as much as possible by myself sometimes I do not get why things work in a certain way, and if after sufficient amount of time the problem stays unsolved I send an email describing what the issue is to a team-mate who works on the project for a long time. But often the email is just ignored or answered with one-two short sentences which do not explain a lot. What is the best way to deal with this situation?

  Currently Work in IT support and am retraining in electrical engineering / electronics, I am also interested in Reverse Engineering which language would be best for Hardware RE, I have seen a few sources say C, C++ and Python? I am not familiar with Linux, but installed ubuntu to learn with. I am not a programmer far from it, but I can understand enough basic VB,Java and PHP to edit it for simple things. One of my immediate projects would be to learn to reverse engineer USB devices and write my own low level drivers, I know there are porting kits, but I really want to know it from the ground up. • Ubuntu 12.04 Nvidia GTX 460 video card installation

  Currently testing Ubuntu 12.04 x64 for our development team. After upgrading from 11.10 I've been having video card issues. I'm using Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. When ever I try to launch Nvidia X server I get the following error message. You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server. I've tried running sudo nvidia-xconfig multiple times and rebooting with no success. I've also tried getting the nvidia-current driver from the x-swat repo sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current Followed again by a reboot did nothing for me but knock my resolution down to 800x600 Finally I've tried sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all sudo reboot Does anyone have any thoughts or directions they could point me in? To the best of my understanding my video card is suppose to be supported.

In there, I learned that: I should avoid too high a volume, to prevent clipping I should avoid too low a volume, to prevent loss of resolution The question now is: What is too high a volume? What is too low? I am setting the volume via the GUI for sound config. It has an unamplified setting, a 100% setting, and volumes beyond 100%. After 100%, is there still resolution loss? How can I tell if there is clipping going on (given that my recording program is the non-GUI ffmpeg)?

  I have two images of the same dimensions. One is represents the game board in a user-appealing way, the other represents it in a computer-friendly way where each game area is painted in a unique, uniform color. When the user clicks the board, we get the click coordinates, find the color of the pixel at the same coordinates in our second image, and that color is directly translatable to a game area, since each area is painted in its own color. Is that a good implementation? Can you suggest better, if it isn't? Best regards.

• What is wrong with me - bug problem? [closed]

  I have about 6 years exp. in app. development. Not so long ago I had moved to another company and the problem has started. I ready don't know why the last time Im making so many bugs/mistakes. Of course Im testing the functionality before I send message that its "done", but I really don't know why I can't see trivial bugs. Some time it looks like I didnt test anything, but its not true. Ive always had this problems but now its pain in the a.s. My question is very simple, what happened to me ;)? Ok, joke aside. What do you do to avoid simple mistakes? plzzz don't tell me to use TDD. The project is... legacy and Im really sick and tired to fix it and adding more bugs into it. best regards

• What is a good scripting language for FTP downloading

  I need to develop some scripts for downloading files from a remote server to our file system. We need to grab files that have various timestamps, and place them into appropriate folders on our system. I'm probably opening quite the can of worms here, but which scripting language would be the best for getting this done? Right now I am using C Shell, which is working fine, but it is requiring multiple scripts because of the use of the ftp command. I wanted to know if there is a better option before I go too far into this project. There are no security concerns within the scripts as far as FTP accounts (public access FTP)

• I need to get past my permissions to recover data

  Due to some mishaps, I am unable to boot into Kubuntu at all. However, my data is still on the hard drive. I managed to get one of the other two computers to which I have access to read the disk by booting into a liveCD session of kubuntu. The only storage medium to which I have access is a 30 GB data stick. Here's where the trouble starts: In music alone, I have to back up about 60 GB. Obviously this is going to have to be split into chunks and moved over to the second spare PC until I can reinstall Kubuntu on my laptop. All of the data that needs backed up is behind a permissions wall, so while I can view it, I can't interact with it directly. I know copying and moving through the terminal can get around this with sudo cp or sudo mv, but is there a way to first compress multiple folders in a single archive, then move it? (While we're on the subject, what compression method would be best for large volumes of music in MP3, WAV, and OGG format?)

• What is the easiest and fastest way to display an SDL_Surface in a window with SDL2?

  I would like to have an SDL_Surface representing the contents of the window, just like in the old days with SDL1.2. What is the best and fastest way to do it in SDL2? What I found is that I need an SDL_Window, an SDL_Renderer for that window, an SDL_Texture to render, and an SDL_Surface to create a texture from. This seems a bit too much to me, since I just want to display a single image on the screen. Not to mention the impact on the performance. On my machine (Lenovo Y510p laptop) this whole procedure takes 9ms, without any memory allocation, only using pre-allocated variables and totally black SDL_Surface. Is there a way I could speed up things?

  I am not a game developer. I am a java developer. However I need some information and I am hoping you can help me. I want to build an app that has 3 buttons on the touch screen - 1,2 and 3. Depending on the screen input the user has to press or release button 3 but (s)he will have to keep either 1 or 2 depressed all the time. • Convert project without introducing bugs

  I have the C++ code of a exe which contains a UI and some process. My goal is to remove the UI so that I only have the process and to convert the exe into a dll. In order to do that, I am thinking of generating unit test before touching any code and then to do my modification and make sure the tests are not failing. The problem is that I am not sure if this is the best approach and if it is, is there a way to automatically generate unit test. BTW, I am using VS 2012. Do you have any guidance for me?

So of course like any other I googled it, got discouraged and forgot about it for a few months. When I was 13 I decided to continue programming, and decided that java would best suit me. Now after a year, I have a basic understanding of java and how it works (it just clicked instantly one day). Anyways, my problem is that I know how I'm going to make a simple game in my head, but as soon as I click that "New Project" button on eclipse, I'm instantly lost and can't figure out where to start. I can't do much without a tutorial beside me since my mind is so dependent on it. • How to hide assets from user? ( e.g.: a png file )

  I think the title is quite self-explaining, still this is a big area I think, so let me drop a few words: I've got a simple experiment game project going, and I want to make sure, that the user isn't messing with the game assets like player skin etc. In my opinion the best way would be that on production I would merge all the assets into one file and the application would check the hash of that file, so it could detect the corrupted data. • Large Sprite Performance

  I've got a large Sprite generated using a set of vertices(x,y coordinates) and a bitmap pattern (using moveTo, lineTo, beginBitmapFill, endFill ...etc). It's about 15000 pixels wide and between 1500 - 2000 pixels high depending on the level -it's the terrain for a 2D game. My question is: what is the best way to display/move it on the stage - performance wise? Currently I'm just adding it to the stage as is...I get decent frame rate/ memory/ cpu usage but I want to optimize it for slower PCs. Any ideas? I've been reading a little about blitting but I'm not sure how to implement it in my case. Thanks.

  My site is using enterprise library v 5.0. Mainly the DAAB. Some functions such as executescalar, executedataset are working as expected.
