• posting nutch data into a BASIC auth secured Solr instance

  Hi. I've secured a solr instance using BASIC auth, kind of how it is shown here: http://blog.comtaste.com/2009/02/securing_your_solr_server_on_t.html Now i'm trying to update my batch processes to push data into the authenticated instance. The ones using "curl" are easy, but i also have a Nutch crawl that uses the "solrindex" command to push data into Solr. Here are my question(s) Is this possible to do? ie push from nutch into a BASIC auth secured Solr instance? Is it possible to tell commons-httpclient about a credential without explicitly doing an _httpclient.getState().setCredentials(...)? Anyother ideas? One idea i had was to use an IPfiltering Valve for just the "update" Solr webservices. That would mean you could only make an update call from certain nodes. Thanks

• Display ASP.NET GridView inside a selected row in another GridView

  I have been given a mockup that I do not know is possible to code in ASP.NET without being a real html and javascript wizard. I want a GridView that when a row is selected, the selected row expands and below the selected row a panel of additional information is shown, which would also include another small GridView. The idea is this would all be in-line. So if the user selected row 4, then the additional information would appear below row 4 and then after the additional information the parent GridView would continue with row 5. Ultimately I would want to do a multi-select type of set up, but first I need to figure out if this is even possible. Also, the solution must be 508 Compliant The one solution I considered was using only one "column". Then I would put all my fields in the ItemTemplate, and my detail panel content in the EditItemTemplate and instead of selecting the row, set it to edit mode. The problem with this solution is I lose the functionality of multiple columns if I throw everything in one huge ItemTemplate. Any and all suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

• ASP.NET Update Panel with CheckBox - Not Working Properly

  I'm working on a simple demo project so that I can learn some things about ASP.NET's AJAX capabilities. My problem is that I can't seem to get an UpdatePanel to work properly with a CheckBox inside of it. • IIRF redirect combine rules?

  I have 3 "rules". One to make sure URLs are lowercase another to include a slash at the end of directories, and a 3rd to force access to index.html pages to be thru the directory instead. The problem w/ how I have it is, sometimes this is causing multiple 301 redirects. I'd really like each rule to apply in turn and then if neccessary redirect once to the final url. For example a url might need to be converted to lowercase and have a slash added. Or may need to be lowecase and change from index.html to a directory. Any ideas how I can do this? Thanks very much. I've seen it mentioned that I might need to configure a proxy but since the web service i'm calling is on port 80 this shouldn't matter should it? I can call the method with the browser. Any ideas?

• dotRAS Disconnected State not triggered

  Can someone give me a heads up... I'm trying to use the dotRAS .NET control, and this code to change the value of internetConnected (boolean) using an event handler... But it seems that the state RasConnectionState.Disconnected is not triggered by dotRAS hangup().. Any ideas? • ASP.NET MVC Session Expiration

  We have an internal ASP.NET MVC application that requires a logon. Log on works great and does what's expected. We have a session expiration of 15 minutes. After sitting on a single page for that period of time, the user has lost the session. If they attempt to refresh the current page or browse to another, they will get a log on page. We keep their request stored so once they've logged in they can continue on to the page that they've requested. This works great. However, my issue is that on some pages there are AJAX calls. For example, they may fill out part of a form, wander off and let their session expire. When they come back, the screen is still displayed. If they simply fill in a box (which will make an AJAX call) the AJAX call will return the Logon page (inside of whatever div the AJAX should have simply returned the actual results). This looks horrible. I think that the solution is to make the page itself expire (so that when a session is terminated, they automatically are returned to the logon screen without any action by them). However, I'm wondering if there are opinions/ideas on how best to implement this specifically in regards to best practices in ASP.NET MVC.

• Sort multiple columns while using a bindingsource or bindinglist

  Hi everyone. I have a problem I am trying to fix and it's sorting a DataGridView on multiple columns. I have read that this option is not a feature built-in the DataGridView and I have to implement it. I have found multiple solutions, but none quite got to do the work. I'm also quite a newbie in C# and I don't know much of the .Net library. I have also read on the MSDN site for info on different classes that might be of use, but no success. Now, let's get to the point. I have a DataGridView, with a BindingList (originally, a BindingSource) that I want to sort, but by multiple keys. My DataGrid has 9 columns and the user should be able to sort on any column. For example, let's say my Datagrid has 3 columns, named : Index, ID, Name. The user wants to sort by Name, implicitly, the next order would be Index and then ID. So, in case 2 names are identical, Index should be the next sort option. Any ideas how this can be made?

  Hi, What is the best way to extend a control? Lets choose for example SpinBox - we want to extend TextBox to SpinBox - just to add two buttons on the right side, which each one on click checks if Text property is a valid number and if it is increases or decreases the value by 1. Suposse that we have a lot of code using TextBox (Text, IsReadOnly properties and bindings etc.) so we want to replace TextBox by SpinBox without touching rest of the code. 1) we can inherit TextBox - so we have exactly the same interface, but how to add the buttons ?? 2) we can inherit from some layout control - eg. DockPanel - we can add buttons, but we lose TextBox interface. 3) after quick read about ControlTemplates I'm not sure, but I believe that we can add buttons and their logic using ControlTemplates 4) like about templates I'm not sure, but I hope we can inherit decorator class to create decorator with the buttons - we lose interface, but can add TextBox as a child I think that the best solutions is to combine 3) and 4) - create a decorator class and use it in a control template for TextBox. I would be grateful for your ideas and simple code how to implement 3 and 4, especially with code (c#), not xaml. Regards

• Error in ASP.NET MVC 2 View after Upgrading from ASP.NET 4.0 RC to RTM

  In my View, I am trying to loop through a list in a LINQ object that as part of my View Model. This worked fine earlier today with the VS2010 RC and the .NET 4.0 RC. <% if (Model.User.RoleList.Count > 0 ) { %> <% foreach (var role in Model.User.RoleList) { %> <%: role.Name %><br /> <% } %> <% } else { %> <em>None</em><br /> <% } %> It used to happily spew out a list of the role names. No data or code has changed. Simply the software upgrades from RC to RTM. The error I am getting is this: \Views\Users\Details.aspx(67): error CS0012: The type 'System.Data.Linq.EntitySet`1' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. But System.Data.Linq IS referenced. I see it there in the references list. I tried deleting it and re-adding it but I get the same error. Any ideas?

• Convert ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8

  I have several documents I need to convert from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8 (without the BOM of course). This is the issue though. I have so many of these documents (it is actually a mix of documents, some UTF-8 and some ISO-8859-1) that I need an automated way of converting them. Unfortunately I only have ActivePerl installed and don't know much about encoding in that language. I may be able to install PHP, but I am not sure as this is not my personal computer. Just so you know, I use Scite or Notepad++, but both do not convert correctly. For example, if I open a document in Czech that contains the character "ž" and go to the "Convert to UTF-8" option in Notepad++, it incorrectly converts it to an unreadable character. There is a way I CAN convert them, but it is tedious. If I open the document with the special characters and copy the document to Windows clipboard, then paste it into a UTF-8 document and save it, it is okay. This is too tedious (opening every file and copying/pasting into a new document) for the amount of documents I have. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

  Let's say I have a site where Users can add Entries through admin panel. Each User has his own Category he is responsible for (each Category has an Editor assigned through ForeingKey/ManyToManyField). When User adds Entry, I limit the choices by using EntryAdmin like this: class EntryAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): (...) def formfield_for_foreignkey(self, db_field, request, **kwargs): if db_field.name == 'category': if request.user.is_superuser: kwargs['queryset'] = Category.objects.all() else: kwargs['queryset'] = Category.objects.filter(editors=request.user) return db_field.formfield(**kwargs) return super(EntryAdmin, self).formfield_for_foreignkey(db_field, request, **kwargs) This way I can limit the categories to which a User can add Entry and it works perfect. Now the tricky part: On the Entry changelist/action page I want to show only those Entries which belong to current User's Category. I tried to do this using this method: def changelist_view(self, request, extra_context=None): if not request.user.is_superuser: self.queryset = self.queryset.filter(editors=request.user) But I get this error: AttributeError: 'function' object has no attribute 'filter' This is strange, because I thought it should be a typical QuerySet. Basically such methods are not well documented and digging through tons of Django code is not my favourite sport. Any ideas how can I achieve my goal?

• UIImagePickerController does nothing when using camera after I hit "Use" button

  Code below. When I hit the "Use" button after taking a picture ... the application becomes totally unresponsive. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The "addPlayer:" method is called when a button is pressed on the UIViewController's view. • Redirect from URL with QueryString to the same URL without QueryString

  I have a page request with a QueryString, say http://www.xyz.net/Orders.aspx?OrderID=1. The page is displayed in a browser. Now there is an asp:LinkButton on the page which should enable the user to open the page without the QueryString (as if he had entered http://www.xyz.net/Orders.aspx directly in the browser's address bar). I had two ideas: 1) Use the PostBackUrl attribute of the LinkButton: <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" Text="Select" PostBackUrl="~/Orders.aspx" /> 2) Use "RedirectUrl" in an event handler: <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" Text="Select" OnClick="LinkButton1_Click" /> ...and... protected void LinkButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Redirect("~/Orders.aspx"); } In both cases the browser's address bar shows http://www.xyz.net/Orders.aspx without the QueryString, as I like to have it. But in the first case the page does not change at all. But it should, because I'm evaluating the QueryString in code-behind and control the appearance of the page depending on whether a QueryString exists or not. The second option works as intended. If I am not wrong the second option requires an additional roundtrip: Browser sends request to server Event handler on server side sends Redirect URL to browser Browser sends again request to the server, but with the new URL Server sends new requested page to browser Is this correct at all? Whereas the first option omits the first two steps in the list above, thus saving the additional roundtrip and resulting in: Browser sends request to the server, but with the new URL (the PostbackURL specified in the LinkButton) Server sends new requested page to browser But, as said, the result isn't the same. I'm sure my try to explain the differences between the two options is wrong somewhere. But I don't know where exactly. Can someone explain what's really the difference? Do I really need this second roundtrip of option (2) to achieve what I want? Thanks in advance!

• maven and lift using scala 2.8 : lift-mapper missing?

  Newbie question since I'm not up to speed using maven at all. I'm trying to use scala + lift using scala 2.8, environment is a win7 box if that matters. I create a basic project using: mvn archetype:generate -U -DarchetypeGroupId=net.liftweb -DarchetypeArtifactId=lift-archetype-basic -DarchetypeVersion=2.0-scala280-SNAPSHOT -DarchetypeRepository=http://scala-tools.org/repo-snapshots -DremoteRepositories=http://scala-tools.org/repo-snapshots -DgroupId=com.liftworkshop -DartifactId=todo -Dversion=1.0-SNAPSHOT So far so good, but then, I try to cd into my new project and do: mvn jetty:run I after quite a few downloads end up with a error like below: [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Failed to resolve artifact. Missing: ---------- 1) net.liftweb:lift-mapper:jar:2.0-scala280-SNAPSHOT Try downloading the file manually from the project website. • Notifying view controller when subview touch events occur.

  I have a UIViewController whose view has a custom subview. This custom subview needs to track touch events and report swipe gestures. Currently I put touchesBegan, touchesMoved, touchesEnded and touchesCancelled in the subview class. With some extra logic I am able to get swipe gestures and call my handleRightSwipe and handleLeftSwipe methods. So now when I swipe within the subview it calls its local swipe handling methods. This all works fine. But what I really need is for the handleRightSwipe and handleLeftSwipe methods to be in the view controller. I could leave them in the subview class but then I'd have to bring in all the logic and data as well and that kind of breaks the MVC idea. So my question is is there a clean way to handle this? Essentially I want to keep my touch event methods in the subview so that they only trigger for that specific view. But I also want the view controller to be informed when these touch events (or in this case swipe gestures) occur. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Start or ensure that Delayed Job runs when an application/server restarts.

  Hi there, We have to use delayed_job (or some other background-job processor) to run jobs in the background, but we're not allowed to change the boot scripts/boot-levels on the server. This means that the daemon is not guaranteed to remain available if the provider restarts the server (since the daemon would have been started by a capistrano recipe that is only run once per deployment). Currently, the best way I can think of to ensure the delayed_job daemon is always running, is to add an initializer to our Rails application that checks if the daemon is running. If it's not running, then the initializer starts the daemon, otherwise, it just leaves it be. The question, therefore, is how do we detect that the Delayed_Job daemon is running from inside a script? (We should be able to start up a daemon fairly easily, bit I don't know how to detect if one is already active). Anyone have any ideas? • C# rounding DateTime objects

  I want to round dates/times to the nearest interval for a charting application. I'd like an extension method signature like follows so that the rounding can be acheived for any level of accuracy: static DateTime Round(this DateTime date, TimeSpan span); The idea is that if I pass in a timespan of ten minutes, it will round to the nearest ten minute interval. I can't get my head around the implementation and am hoping one of you will have written or used something similar before. I think either a floor, ceiling or nearest implementation is fine. Any ideas? • upgrading .NET application from MapPoint 2004 to 2009...

  I am in the process of upgrading a Visual Studio 2005 .NET (C#) application from it's integration with MapPoint 2004 to supporting MapPoint 2009. After a bit of searching and fiddling, I've generated new DLLs using "tldimp" and "aximp" and now have Interop.MapPoint.dll and AxInterop.MapPoint.dll and the namespaces seem to line up to the previous ones, so all the object definitions are available. However, I have lots of errors telling me that various properties do not exist, even though I go into the Object Browser, and they do seem to exist. Here is an example (there are dozens of similar errors)... axMappointControl1.ActiveMap.Altitude = 1000; That object initializes fine, as a MapPoint.Map object, which when I browse to in the Object Browser, I go to MapPoint and Map and under Map there are no properties but when I look deeper there is _Map80 and _Map90 and EACH of these has an Altitude property. Under Map it also lists "Base Types", which has _Map in it which also has all the referenced properties! Yet, I am getting the error: "MapPoint.Map' does not contain a definition for 'Altitude' Pretty much all the properties of both MapPoint.Map and MapPoint.Toolbars are doing this. Any ideas?   Looking at the Reactive Extensions for javascript demo on Jeff Van Gogh's blog, I thought I'd give it a try in C#/Winforms, but it doesn't seem to work so well. I just threw this into the constructor of a form (with the Rx framework installed and referenced): Observable.Context = SynchronizationContext.Current; var mousemove = Observable.FromEvent<MouseEventArgs>(this, "MouseMove"); var message = "Time flies like an arrow".ToCharArray(); for(int i = 0; i < message.Length; i++) { var l = new Label() { Text = message[i].ToString(), AutoSize = true, TextAlign = ContentAlignment.MiddleCenter }; int closure = i; mousemove .Delay(closure * 150) .Subscribe(e => { l.Left = e.EventArgs.X + closure * 15 + 10; l.Top = e.EventArgs.Y; //Debug.WriteLine(l.Text); }); Controls.Add(l); } When I move the mouse, the letters seem to get moved in a random order, and if I uncomment the Debug line, I see multiple events for the same letter... Any ideas? I've tried Throttle, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Am I just asking too much of WinForms to move all those labels around? (Cross posted on Rx Forum)
